When i was a teenager in early sixtys an seventys my uncle repaired. Welded boats an barges an i always liked watching the boats. On Miss. Take care sir an GOD BLESS
Thats cool being able to label & date portions of the video of where you're at & whatcha doing (p/u barges at...). This has been a very informative video.
I grew up along the Upper Mississippi in Eastern Iowa. I am amazed at your videos on the lower Mississippi. Barges more than 3 wide. Passing other tows headed in the opposite direction with a wide gap in between rather than crowding in the channel. The lower river looks like an entirely different beast.
Sitting high atop a bluff overlooking the Mississippi River in Thebes, Illinois is the 1848 Courthouse. Standing 170 years, it is a testament to architect Henry Ernst Barkhausen, who was awarded the contract for designing and supervising the erection of the Thebes Courthouse in 1845. This landmark was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1972.
I always enjoy your videos. I’m a captain on a boat out of Louisiana. I push 1-6 barges. Always wanted to try my hand at more than 6. Have the opportunity to go to Marquette and get posted on 8-15
Doesn't matter how many times I see a tug pushing barges. If I'm on the banks of the river and you are passing, I'm going to video and wish for a moment I was riding. When I would do work for Plimsoll Marine we always went somewhere after where he could push up against the bank to simulate under a load. Good memories. Safe travels and peace to you
I really didn’t notice until recently how river folk and more specifically wheelhouse speak a different language, kinda. I’ve always noticed how we all tend to drop our voice lower.. that’s a weird radio thing, and try to exude confidence audibly. The language seems like more of a river shorthand type deal. Two guys that are familiar with each other, confident, and competent can really convey lots of information to each other in just s few river terms. They mostly sound like total jibberish to someone not familiar.
I’m an airline captain. I love watching your videos of a different part of the transportation industry.

It is different deal for sure.
I’ve spun 35 loaded barges around with passing room. 👍🏻

Yep, the Marquette Legends is in fact the Bootise B, hard to believe that towboat is 22 years old now.

Didn’t realize that. I’ve always liked that beautiful beast. 👍🏻

Do you guys ever do any fishing while you're nosed ashore?
I’ve fished off a towboat about 2 times in my whole career.

@@marktwained Perfectly natural, I would say. I thought it was cute that the train, of course, had a "stern." 🙂
