The title of this superb song is "Back In Your Arms Again." You see, Bruce had to eliminate "again" from the title so he could put out a crap version of one of his best songs of the past 20 years. The "Back In Your Arms" version was placed on "Tracks." I just CANNOT FATHOM why he felt the "Tracks" box set version was better than this version. Nuts!
Holy crap. As someone who has been a fan for years, and seen him live in different settings, including on Broadway, this version blows the Tracks version out of the water. At least for me.
Just be thankful that the original "Back In Your Arms Again" is readily available on bootleg. I have no idea what Bruce was thinking. Engineer Chuck Plotkin says they were under an extreme deadline to record the new songs on the Greatest Hits CD. I know they were cuz no serious fan feels the 1995 version of "This Hard Land " is anywhere near as good as the 1982 version that was done for "BITUSA." Also, "The Ghost Of Tom Joad" was penned as a tune for the "Greatest Hits" record, but it never panned out." There were 3 other tunes that were worked on that didn't make the "Greatest Hits" disc. One being "Waiting On The End Of The World."
Shoulda' been on an LP....he's really giving it all here............yep....better energy and vocals than the "Tracks" version that I have. (One of my four discs just 'cracked' on its own and shed a piece of itself! Dam. After maybe 15 years, just mostly sitting in the original packet, but listened to a lot).
The ultimate version of this song. Sounds like they were in the studio and just blew this away in one cut, one take, one try.................Bruce is giving all he has..........awesome. Danny Federici ( RIP, Danny) and "doc" help a helluva lot on this. (OK some of Bruce's 'ooo's' are a bit off and sqeaky but so what?) At the end Bruce seems to suggest they do one more take....I say NO, STOP.
This version of the song, which is more keyboard emphasized and is on the Deep Down In The Vaults bootleg, is 5x better than the version (called "Back In Your Arms") that was included on the Tracks box set. I will never understand why Bruce felt the Tracks version is better. It sucks compared to this. This version of the song is one of the best songs Bruce has written in 30 years. The Tracks version deserved to be on the cutting room floor. Just terrible.
I've been a fan all my life, due to my dad. I'm 31 now and I came across this out of nowhere when I was about 19, my dad had never heard it either...and it's honestly probably my favorite song of his ever since.
Interesting note: this song, "Secret Garden," and another song the E Street Band tried out in the January 1995 "Greatest Hits" sessions, "Waiting Until The End Of The World," were slated to be on an unreleased album project in 1994 called "Waiting Until The End Of The World." Also, the song "Secret Garden" was an outtake from the "Human Touch" record. Bruce often leaves his best tunes off of his records, but it's rather obvious that the early 90's version of "Secret Garden" was probably not what it ended up being....one his best love songs. It was probably still being developed.
This song is so much better than "Bacvk In You Arms" on Tracks that it's insane. Bruce and Landau do not even know what their best versions of their tunes are
@@chrisscrivener4759 Not always, but have you heard "My Love Will Not Let You Down," "Wages Of Sin," and "Frankie" from the "Born In The USA" sessions." ?? Three of the greatest songs he has done. Bruce admitted in 1999 that "My Love Will Not Let You Down" was a massive error. It should've been put on the "Born In The USA" LP. Artists are not always the best critics of their material - especially with an artist like Bruce who writes so many great unreleased songs. I personally feel he writes so many great tunes and so great VERSIONS of tunes that he and his team get confused. The SOB supposedly wrote close to 105 songs for "The River." Artists who are THAT prolific are going to make errors. I would exchange 40% of the songs from "the River" with outtakes, as would many fans. The fans ultimately know MORE than the artists. They buy the songs & albums. I personally do not know any serious fan who feels the "Tracks" box set version of "Back In Your Arms" is better than this version. So it's not JUST ME.
Plus I am the consumer, the one buying the songs. I do not know anyone who feels the Tracks version of this tune is better than this definitive version which was originally done for an unreleased album project in 1994.
@@MattSmith-iq1ld: I have The River (double cd album) and I would not change any of those tracks for outtakes. It is one of the best of bruce's albums, but wouldn't mind those tracks to be added (if there was room) but none taken out/exchanged. Human Touch is also a good album. I haven't actually herd the Tracks album yet and so I cannot comment on it. Though this particular version of BIYA, in my opinion, is just different and ok but not better than the other, more powerful, versions I have come across here on YT. But other people's opinions differ. But there seem to be some peculiar characters out there who "don't like" Bruce & E Street. But I can't get my head around them.
@@bigcityjunglecatenvisageth1422 I am glad most of the River outtakes have been released (yes there are still E Street recorded outtakes from the River sessions in the can), but "You Can Look" over "Stray Bullet."?? The boring, way too long "Drive All Night" (where Bruce just howls in pain for 8 minutes) over "Restless Nights" (who Steve VZ feels is one of the greatest songs Bruce has ever written)??? Even Bruce admitted in the River documentary that Crush On You was a throwaway song and it was a massive error in putting that track ahead of Roulette which is one of Bruce's best songs and has been voted as such on Backstreets and the two major online messages boards. In fact the big error with Roulette is that Bruce missed his CSN&Y "Ohio" moment by not releasing it as a stand alone single. It was the first track recorded for the album, the location of the incident close to Bruce's heart, and it was timely. That song had a chance to be released 6 or so months before the No Nukes concerts. The biggest error in Springsteen's career is that unlike the Fab 4 and the Stones, he never put out stand along singles. The tracks he left off of records were so good that many were worthy of being singles. "Shut Out The Light," "My Love Will Not Let You Down," "Murder Inc," and "This Hard Land," were good enough to be singles between 1982-1984 while he was recording nearly 100 songs. He left far too many great songs in the can, and the gaps between the full length albums were far too great. He needed singles. I understand his desire to create albums w/ a context (see "Darkness" which I wouldn't change in anyway unless the CD format existed in 1978.....then I'd toss in "Iceman" and "The Promise."). But "The River" album is all over the map. There is really no context to it. Don't get me wrong, it is a great record, but it's not the record it could've been. It could have joined "Born To Run," "Darkness," and "Nebraska" in the Holy Trinity. Missed opportunity. In fact, I don't feel "The River" lacks the cohesion of "Tunnel of Love."
I have no words. Exceptional performance. Tears on my face. Eternal artist. God bless Bruce
Forget like, we need a love button on UA-cam. He sings the hell out of this song!
