The entire game of big brother needs more social games like this. Like survivor has the ax chop comp, hell bbott had the hoh non comp where they just kept deciding who shouldn’t get hoh.
This was such a fun look back at one of the most iconic competitions! Love that the unitard punishment has stuck around the whole time. It’s usually pretty entertaining.
When Elena took the $5000 from Alex I was secretly screaming "Yas girl!" Cause I really despised Alex throughout the season and Elena was gonna go home real soon anyway, might as well take some cash. As for Matt, he was by far one of the most frustrating houseguests as I hoped he'd win so he'd use it on himself and we'll still see some heavy Paul opposition in the house, only for him to use it on someone else and call himself an "expert loser" in his speech. So yeah Matt was a useless pile of rubbish. But all in all the swap competition is probably my favorite comp in BB
Russell from BB11 is a national treasure. Love the fact he was like the best part of that season in terms of being an outright jerk all the time, but in a good way. 12:06 That alone made the competition a highlight in my eyes. Just Ian in a dogsuit and Frank in a spiritard next to Boogie who looks like he's saying "Yep! This is my team everyone." in a deadpan way.
This comp is hilarious to watch unfold every season. That being said my favorite win has to be from BB23. Brit’s reaction to winning after being on the block for the third time and taking herself off was just amazing to watch!
Speaking about that HOH comp in BB 11, would love to see a video about comps/situations that weren't planned happen. Like in All Stars with the comp being broken, cheating in BBcan 1, Comp breaking in Over the top etc.
It’s weird that you didn’t mention Cirie and Felicia stuck together before the veto meeting or Cam and Izzy (HOH and the target) stuck together doing a punishment.
That probably ended up being maybe the most consequential of these comps, as Cirie and Felicia being mostly on their own for two days led Jared to alienate Cory from their alliance and start the path of Izzy being evicted.
I was wondering why Felicia was eliminated when she got a better score and why they showed us her score if they were gonna eliminate her after her collapse and not explain why. I assume she was medically DQ'd from the challenge or that she voluntarily quit the challenge given her exhaustion. An official explanation would've been nice.
In that round Felicia and Matt actually tied for last and had to compete in a tie breaker round and the scores shown in the episode were the scores of the tie breaker. For some stupid reason production left all that out.
Honestly, I think Jeff’s “Take it easy Mrs. Roper, you look real classy” is one of the smartest off-the-cuff cracks I’ve seen on this show and from a very unlikely source.
Matt taking the Duhamel “prize” is so iconic, it’ll probably be what people remember most about Matt years down the line, even if he wins (which I think he will!)
It’s funny to me when the early-outs decide to keep the veto and hope that none of the others will take it from them. I feel like a better strategy would be to just take a reward or a easy punishment, because you’re a lot more likely to keep those, and less likely to end up with a really bad punishment when someone takes the veto from you.
Felicia was not DQ’d!! Nor did she forfeit. She and Matt actually tied that round( lower than Jag’s 17) and what was edited into the episode was their tiebreaker scores against each other. Some really wonky editing that made zero sense, but that’s what happened per hamsterwatch. It was bugging me for a few days that people were saying “Felicia forfeited!” Why would someone forfeit a veto when they’re the nominee? Kinda insulting
So, apparently what happened with Felicia being eliminated over Jag, was that Matt and Felicia had both scored the same score lower than Jag's score of 17 and had to play a tie breaker. That's why Josh tells Felicia that she has to beat Matt's score in order to move on to the next round. For some reason, production decided to not air Matt and Felicia scoring the same before doing the tie breaker (despite this being a two hour episode), so the end result is confusing and makes the viewer feel like they've entered an alternate dimension.
I think the punishment comp would be a good video (the How Much Do You Want It one). If you've done it, I'd love to see it. (obvs would be more timely if they brought it back - also though, when was the last time it happened?!)
After finishing the video, I think the key to doing well after this comp is to voluntarily take/keep a punishment and then just have fun with it! Ian and Matt used their punishments as a way to endear themselves to their fellow houseguests and the audience. Plus you can have a positive impact on the other comp players by not stealing from/punishing them, and possibly even giving one of them a prize. Felicia’s punishment basically saved her game because she (I think unintentionally) took the most dominant player out of strategy talks for two days. All that being said, I definitely wouldn’t willingly do one of those over night punishments, like Izzy and Cameron having to basically do the sweat challenge from new era Survivor.
best BB competitions in my opinion are the ones that play on the social dynamics within the house, and why i think we need to bring back food/luxury comps. they force the house to work together in order to make ALL of their lives better, with the added bonus of potential sabotage to shake up the house. being able to bestow non-game related gifts or punishments to your fellow housemates was such an interesting part of early BB that i think could bring a lot to modern BB that and more equitable comps to lead to a more fluid house structure
I never faulted Alyssa for taking that trip. Hoh needs to win that comp to make dictations like that. Plus people should know that there is potential for your good prize to get taken away. Takes a rare individual to keep a punishment.
I can't believe you didn't include BB16 Brittany's DR where she said, "Thanks a lot, Nicole. I'd sure love to kick you 2400 times in the head, right now," when Nicole took the veto from her. In my opinion, that confessional aged really well. lol
PLEASE make an Otev Video! Everybody who watches your videos (I have seem 95% of them) would absolute love to see it. If you did a community poll, I guarantee that almost everyone would approve of it. I know you said you weren't gonna make any more videos on specific comps like this one, but PLEASE do an Otev video. There are some iconic, series defining moments that have occurred during this competition every season. From people getting exposed by others finding out they were stockpiling and working together from the same pile during the competition, to James and Janelle getting in a fight over a doll, to Rockstar absolutely blowing up and destroying her alliance's game. I think that Otev is almost just as much of a strategy game as the Yankee Swap is, although maybe a tiny bit less because people don't *always* show their cards in Otev like they are forced to in Yankee Swap so maybe there is a bit more drama there.
I feel like Matt maybe took the punishment was because since he is deaf maybe he didn't understand the whole prize to be honest I would have trade it for 5000
I find it interesting to think about the evolution of what prizes/punishments are offered in the prize swap competition. In the first few years it was played, the unitard was the only punishment. there were traditionally 5 desirable prizes: the veto (except in one case it was the HOH), a cash prize, a luxury prize (trip/motorcycle/plasma TV), a phonecall or letter from home, and usually a slop pass. In season 12, instead of a slop pass it was a spot in the next veto competition. over time it evolved to have fewer desirable prizes and more punishments. in season 12, there was an extra round and one of the prizes was a second chance in the competition, but they had to trade it to someone else. this could be good or bad depending on if there is anyone eliminated before you that you want to see win the competition. I think season 12 was the first time two players ended up with punishments, the hippie-tard and solitary confinement. Season 13 had solitary confinement combined with a phonecall from home, combining a prize and punishment. Now they traditionally have three desirable prizes: veto, cash prize, and a trip, and three punishments. I sort of preferred when it was mostly desirable prizes, because then the winner had four possible prizes to tempt them not to take the veto. but there are good things about it being half punishments, you get the drama of three people having to stick people with punishments and comedy of seeing the punishments play out. so it's all a matter of preference if it should be mostly good prizes or half punishments. I had forgotten that season 22 only had five people in the prize swap. I wonder what prize or punishment they had planned and left out
