You realise that you're old when you hear someone explain to the audience what an audio cassette is ._.
Had the same thought, and I was born in 90. I remember when portable DVD players were pretty nifty
now imagine what our grandparents feel
Lol 😂 I had the opposite reaction. Although I do know what a cassette is.
Hehe yeah. When I was these kids age, cassettes were the latest 'mobile technology' replacing LP's and if you had a personal cassette stereo cassette player that had Dolby stereo and recorded you were rich. I remember spending a weeks salary on a Kenwood one 1cm thick, and my music a shelf full of cassettes. It was a real bummer when the cassette players 'ate' them and all the tape came out like spaghetti wasn't it lol. Remember the 'splice fix' trick with sellotape?!
YUP!
I declared myself supreme leader of an ant hill once when I was a kid.
The ants barely took notice.
You forgot to topple the queen and rule with an iron fist
Or you could have simply named them infidels, wiped them out and moved on to the next hill.
That so random
Just like the movies...
Yes josh, you, who is a nobody, declares leadership over a random useless ant hill. well done and congratulations to you
"The thin, bearded religious figure." I thought he was referring to himself as the owner of UA-cam lol
I follow simon
Would they know what to do with a tape cassette and a pencil though....?
Did you guys see the video?
Did the narrator tell about how CIA funded and helped Khomeini into power and exile the Western supporting King of Iran?
I dont wanna watch it incase it's biased and they dont tell about that part since its like 50% of the thing that happened

I LOVE Simon's delivery. His facial expressions and voice tone are terrific.
He was born for this work. A true professional.

Thanks :) :)
Me too, but I can't shake the feeling that he puts on the English accent. I mean, Simon pronounces the word "caliph" as cay-liff.. English people say cah-liff. Every video has a moment that makes me pause and wonder if he's putting the accent on or if he's trolling us.
Simon' I think your fantastic. Don't stop doing what you were meant to do.
Every time, I think I already know about the subject matter you make me pause 🤔 and I learn more.
Just wanted to say thank you for that.
The world is focused on China and Russia, but actually Khomeinist Iran has been the most successful post-Cold War state in expanding its influence and basically creating an Empire across the Middle East. Iran now has massive influence in Iraq, Syria, Lebanon, Yemen and Gaza, has built up Hezbollah into a very formidable politico-military force that drove Israel out of Lebanon, and helps anti-Western regimes as far away as Nicaragua.
I remember hearing about Khomeini on the news when I was a kid. You know your getting old when someone has to explain what a cassette tape is. This was very informative and educational. I hope many more people see this. Keep up the good work. Thank you.

I don't think I can express how much I love the channels that Simon and his crew have created. Teaching us all one video at a time.
He was a Tyrant just like the Shah. The Shah was a secular Tyrant and Khomeni was a religious Tyrant. Same thing with two faces. If you want to read about a great Iranian leader read about Mossadegh.
im agree with you
Meet the new boss, not so different from the old boss.
The explanation of what a cassette tape is for the younger generation got me. 🤣
My friend (I’ll call him John) lived in Iran just prior to the Shah’s overthrow. My friend was Caucasian, his wife Iranian. Their son, obviously half Iranian. John had some high ranking friends involved with the overthrow. They told him, “Your wife is okay. However, we can’t promise your safety ~ or your son’s. Please leave before this gets out of our control. We like you and don’t want harm to any of your family but others in this movement don’t feel the same way.”
My friend had to escape with his son under the cover of darkness. His friends (those involved in the Shah’s removal) helped him escape.
It is much more detailed and interesting when he tells his situation.
Thanks for posting this video.

All of Simon’s channels are great to listen to while I work and do other things- it’s amazing, entertaining, and still educational! Keep up the great work! 👍 We love you, Simon! ❤️
They are not "his channels" he's a voice actor who is given a script he has nothing to do with production beyond being a talking head. that is how he is able to represent so many channels. I love the content too, but let's give credit where credit is due and that credit is certainly not Simon's to have.

Hey biographics crew I have a request for you guys. Can you make a video on the Dictator of the Dominican Republic Rafael Trujillo? He was such a ruthless dictator during his 31 year reign (1930-1961) that the period of time is know as the Trujillo Era. Please let me know what you guys think of this as a video has not been made on him yet. Keep up the good work on your videos and I hope you all have a wonderful day. Attempt#2. P.S this will probably be the last time I’ll repost this. I do hope a video about it will be made one day in the near future. Take care guys at biographics.
Is he the one that had the negro league players? Then threatened to shoot them if they lose.
jblack2525 i haven’t read anything about that, so I cant be certain. One thing I can say though is that Trujillo in 1937 killed anywhere between 12,000 to 35,000 Haitian, along the Haiti/ Dominican Republic border
Was he the one they referred to as "Papa Doc"?
Andy Van Lente no papa doc was the nickname for the president of Haiti from 1957-1971
Rafael Trujillo had the nickname El Jefe
I believe the biographics team will get around to it. They have so many recommendations that it may take a little while though. Im still waiting for Liberia's ex-president Charles Taylor. American educated warlord with American children and CIA ties that was funded by tire giant Firestone and supplied by notorious arms dealer Viktor Bout from lord of war fame. There is so much info on the guy, so many down right insane stories. His son came over from high school in orlando, florida to leading the anti terrorist unit and conducting so many atrocities and claimed to be a demon. What a nice middle class american kid from orlando, florida huh?
I went to the Mausoleum of Ayatollah Khomeini when I was in Iran last summer. It was the only time throughout the entire 15 days that I felt any bit of unwelcomeness. They didn't know that I was American, just a young western guy, but the people at that one location are the diehard conservatives. The rest of my time in Iran I would openly tell people that I was American and they would say "Welcome to Iran! I hope you enjoy your stay here!" and chat with me about my thoughts on Iran, their favorite things about America (the "American Dream," Los Angeles, NYC, the tv show Friends, etc) and just want to practice their English. Obviously I was interacting with everyday people, not the government, but I really enjoyed my trip. The mosques and palaces in Shiraz and Isfahan were especially amazing (as well as Golestan Palace in Tehran), and the food was delicious! Side note, you can tour the former American embassy now (it is essentially a propaganda museum now but there are old CIA relics etc on display).
Did you see Persepolis?
@@ili4707 Yes of course, that was high on my to-do list (history nerd, obviously).
@@balooko31 whats Persepolis? 👀
It is a clear fact that the Man you're describing here was loved and highly respected by the people even after revolution & destructed war. Your expressions are good that does not mean your thoughts are based on fact,. In this regard one should try to research by primary persian sources, his speeches, writings and his nation can describe him best, not the biased media.
Literally the only reason he fell into power was the blind faith in Islam people had making them align with him, and the bad state of famine and abuse of funds the shah had the country in. He had bad ideas and was a weak leader. The country went from a place of poorly guided progression to poorly guided regression

Fantastic overview and history of this era. I was a young man joining the US Army during the 80's and always wondered why we were at "difference" with Iran. No internet back then and research was not something the common person conducted on a regular basis. Current events were still hard to follow with TV and news magazines being the only outlet.
Thank you 😊
So you loved his lies 😅😂
Just wanted to make a few corrections:
• the UK and the Soviets invaded Iran during World War II in order to steal Persian OIL for free, to help fund the Allies’ war effort against Hitler - NOT because the Nazis were going to invade Iran
• Khomeini was supported by the West, including the US, because the Shah wanted to nationalize the OIL - as Mossadegh had done in the 1950s, and just like with PM Mossadegh, the West refused to let all that FREE oil escape its clutches (see: Operation Ajax)
As a Persian-American, Khomeini is the Great Satan for me and every single Persian I know, both here in the States and abroad. But the bigger Satan? Colonialism. Imperialism.
What the US never understood is that Iran is not like the other Middle-Eastern countries, in that it has infrastructure, education, wealth, and a long history spanning millennia of fighting against outsiders (including the Muslim Arabs). That’s why Iranians speak Persian, not Arabic, and why the most important holiday for all of us is Persian New Year - a Zoroastrian holiday, long before the Abrahamic religions like Islam were created.
The lesson here: never underestimate the Iranian people.

What got you laughing so hard? When was the last time you used one or even saw one in a car or home? I'm over 30 and don't believe I've ever owned a car with one in it
Love how he opens up with a description of his future self only to twist the plot into the ayatollah, great work!
"A,B,C,D and 5" ahhh yes Simon that's a great way to order points
That well placed “well done, you” just earned you a solid like!
When I began writing an essay for fun on the Iranian Revolution of 1979 last year, the role of Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini was the most fascinating thing I had ever laid my eyes upon. The way he ruthlessly fought for Iran to be ruled entirely by Islamic law and how he despised the subjective progressiveness of Shah Mohammad Reza Pahlavi strangely (and still does) leave a great impression on me.
you did that for school dont fucking lie, i had the same assignment
kudos for dragging his country a thousand years into the past. And the iranians just love the lifestyle there i hear, too.
@@janklank Nope. Literally for fun. I've written essays on Shigeru Miyamoto, Kim Il-Sung, Shotaro Ishinomori, Hayao Miyazaki, Osamu Tezuka, David Yonggi Cho, Sun Myung-Moon, and dozens of other people and special cultural events.
(Btw, I'm homeschooled, so doing essays is not apart of my regular work).
@@jessiepinkman7736 I'm not happy that he led Iran to such a horrible situation it's in today at all. I've just always been fascinated by how powerfully he fought for what he believed in, whether it seemed wrong to others. It disgusts me how he treated his own people when they insulted him or said the tiniest thing against him. Honestly, I am very glad that Khomeini is not ruling Iran today, especially because of how many refugees there are in other countries and how their population is almost double than the Iranians living in Iran! He'd have no one to rule! Not to mention, he was one of the main reasons why so many Iranians left their country and were persecuted in America.
@@saint_yves yo im sorry ik it seems like i was hating i was just messing around, you sound very smart, keep up the good work bud
