    I use this chainsaw every day in minus 25 celcius weather here in northern Ontario Canada...I cut enough to fill my f 150 everyday since last October and havent had any troubles with it

    I LOVE my stihl 251c chainsaw. I bought a Sears model, tried it for a week took it back and bought this one and the difference was night and day. This thing is awesome for a homeowner. Good video.

    The design of the saw is for right handed dominant use. Even if you’re a lefty this saw should always be used as right handed for safety.
    Besides that, it was a good video.
    This is the same saw I’m interested in and want to purchase because of the easy2start, bar size, chain thickness and the tool less features it has. AND ITS A STIHL!!!
    As of 2/18 $379 @ dealer.

      I love this saw. After you upgrade from a cheap one there’s no going back. I know it’s designed for right handed use, but I can’t do anything right handed. I pose a bigger threat to myself using it right handed lol

      My local small municipal airport is where I buy my fuel. I can get 91 or 100 ethanol free. They will only sell in 5 gallon cans (bring your own). I use 91 ethanol free for everything in my yard. It’s not much more than pump gas and 5 gallons will stay good for up to 2 years. (Haven’t tried it myself)

I've heard it's a good day but until I learned to break it in correctly in not using it period. Looks just like it did the day I bought it for $387 bucks plus tax

      BTW your saw will eat through big stuff if you keep it sharp, I cut just as big with my ms170 yard saw. 251 should take something like the big tree with ease. ms291 I just bought for a quicker cut on large trees, I use an RS chain, but my others I rather use a semi chisel safety chain, and I use those most.

    • @MikesGarage96

      Remove the top cover of the saw like you’re going to change the air filter. You’ll see the spark plug boot sitting right there on top of the engine. Just be careful not to over tighten the new plug.

      It’s a good saw for an around the house homeowner trimming things. Friends that have shoulder problems love the easy start. But where people have problems with them, many times they are drop starting it like other saws, and that recoil won’t handle it. But if you’re doing heavier bigger cutting, I’d go bigger. Since buying it, I’ve gotten more into firewood cutting. Bought a 391 and 661 since.

      Make sure you post a review of the local ED when you end up there..
      I've worked in ED and under orthopaedics here in aus and seen what a chainsaw does.
      If it slices through solid timber that easily, think about what even a glancing blow on your soft squishy leg will do.

    All the 251 i have owned have blown up from detonation after like 10hrs of use. Using the stihl cans of mixed fuel the dealer gave me.

    • @MikesGarage96
      @MikesGarage96  4 роки тому

      At this point I probably have 200 hours on mine with no problems. When you first crank it, do you let it warm up before going wide open throttle?

    • @captainsledge7554
      @captainsledge7554 4 роки тому

      Absolutly. Do the same with all my equiptment. Its due to the electronic modules in the coil im assuming. Because the fuel is fine, i always richen the mixture a little bit, the temp is fine, theyre never under heavy load, and like clockwork with all of them ive owned. My dealer says its a common issue with these and atleast half of the ones that leave there they end up having to warranty them out for detonation issues. But no i work on them enough to know about cold siezure. Thats like the most obvious entry level issue with 2 strokes.

      That’s about all a lot of us do lol. I know there’s safer ways, luckily I’m still in one piece. I recently purchased a Stihl MS 391 with a 25” bar I still need to review. For a bigger farm and ranch grade saw, it’s phenomenal for blocking larger pieces for firewood.

      @@MikesGarage96 Sorry guys. PPE is called "Personal Protective Equipment" since it does just that. Think of a saw like firearms, but with more chance for serious injury. Both DO NOT involve macho thot.

    I would not recommend this unit for more than suburban yard duty. Mine never ran right from the first day and had to be coaxed to stay running until it got warm. The dealer claimed it was bad gas but I also have a 250 and the same gas worked fine in that one. The anti-shock cushion is over done on this one as when you are doing your hardest cutting the engine leans too close to the brake guard and if you are wearing gloves it kicks the brake in just when its laboring the hardest. Yesterday the head blew off while cutting a large log and the warrantee recently expired so that the last 251 I will ever buy. This is a cheaped down version of the earlier models not capable of doing more than suburban yard work.

    • @berniestarzewski5482
      @berniestarzewski5482 3 роки тому

      @@hwvanzant3007 I can maybe see that but the manual makes no mention of this other than saying not to use less than 89 octane. You cant get anything higher than 87 here without going to ethanol which is 91. I ran my 250 on that for 15 years and though it is worn out now never had any problems other than routine maintenance. The 250 never ran right and the dealer couldnt correct it. I bought a new 250 now and so far so good. At least it starts and stays running without coaxing.

    • @MrSovrin
      @MrSovrin 2 роки тому

      @@berniestarzewski5482 If you have a Country Mark anywhere around you can usually find 90 octane ethanol free. That's what I use in all my small engines and my mower. I just bought this one today after trying to decide between Husky and this or the bigger 271 but decided I didn't need that much and wanted the easy start like my blower and weedeater which have worked great for years. Hope I don't have any trouble.

    • @berniestarzewski5482
      @berniestarzewski5482 2 роки тому

      @@MrSovrin We have Country Visions but the same idea yes. Ive stopped buying any ethanol based fuel for any small engines and my old tractors. Im also going to check my manual for my new truck to see if its OK to use it there and see if the mileage changes. However I still would not buy a 251 again for ergonometric reasons if nothing else. The handle bar is so mushy that when I ran it with gloves on my hand would hit the brake bar and stop it any time I leaned forward on it. Ive never had one blow up on me like that and maybe it was a fluke but all in all Ill stick with what worked well for me and thats the 250.

      Hey D. I just acquired my first chain saw last week. Please elaborate on your comment about having no brake on when starting. Doesn't the brake simply stop the chain from rotating? Isn't the engine turning independent of the brake? Does the chain begin moving as soon as the engine is running? Sorry for the newbie questions; just trying to understand and do things correctly.

      The brake is misused by alot of ppl. Its there for safety only in a kickback. NEVER RUN A SAW WITH THE BRAKE ON. It burns up these plastic cases quickly. Look up chainsaw fire on UA-cam. Cant count how many cases i replace for customers because of that stupid safety of "start with your brake on" that originated because someone seen the chain moving when the saw was idling. If you hurt yourself with that... then you need to stop setting your saws on the ground running and full throttle.
