  • In 2003, more than 20 years ago, we started; first as a digitization service provider of cine film, and pretty soon also with development of film transfer equipment. 2003 was also the year when DSLR cameras made their breakthrough on the mass market, first mainly with Canon and Nikon.
In the digitization field, however, if you didn't have a huge budget, the only option was to digitize with industrial cameras or with camcorders, which from today's perspective offer inferior quality.
We had shot on Super 8 ourselves, and we had a lot of films in our family archives, and again and again we realized: the scanning methods don't image the quality of the films.
So we put our experience, gained as graphic designers and as picture and sound technicians, at the service of this one thing: to make the best technical Super 8 and 16 mm transfer possible with affordable equipment. Not only for professional providers, but also for the private filmmaker.
Original Super 8 film has its problems, such as film grain and scratches, but it also has something fascinating: a very wide dynamic range and an incomparable brilliance. Vintage film contains the smallest details and has a very special warmth. The mood that lies in these old recordings is what we want to feel when we remember our past. This mood, this warmth is what we want to take with us into the digital age. But how do we manage that?
We've been refining and expanding our film digitizing equipment as consumer DSLR and mirrorless cameras have evolved; we wanted our customers to be able to use the features of their own cameras for film transfer. The first DSLR cameras now had video modes, and the quality was just so much better than what you see with industrial cameras or with inexpensive frame-by-frame scanners.
FILM-DIGITAL was the first company to release a lens and LED system for film transfer with DSLR or mirrorless DSLM cameras. This system also works with film cameras. The frequencies of the projector and camera are matched either by the projector electronics or the camera shutter. Almost any camera that has a video mode and interchangeable optics can be used for high-quality transfer with film digital equipment.
In addition to private customers, our customers include many international digitization service providers, archives, universities and film production companies.
This sample was created with the complete set 1014 (modified Bauer T610 with Panasonic GH5).
