  • This week for Weapons Wednesday, I reviewed some of the metal bo staffs we sell on www.KarateMart.... A lot of our customers ask about our metal bo staves and the differences between a steel and an aluminum one. In this video, I go into details about the differences and show a strength test we did a few years back where really tested them out. I also show off our 3-piece aluminum escrima staff for people who have been curious about that weapon.
    If you have any questions about the steel or aluminum bo staff, please leave them in the comments below.
    Here are links to the items discussed in this video:

    Black Steel Bo Staff: www.karatemart...
    High Strength Aluminum Bo Staff: www.karatemart...

    Thanks so much for watching!

    That steel staff is WAY heavier than expected! I'll probably be picking up the aluminum one soon!

      It is really heavy! Yeah, the aluminum is probably the better staff for most martial artists. Thanks so much for watching, Mack!

    Those are all beautiful weapons Kyle! All three have been clearly thought out. The high strength aluminum I’m guessing is the 6013 alloy. I’ve used it before in weapons I’ve made and that stuff is incredible. If memory serves (and mine is up chits creak!) it has titanium in it and was designed for gears in aircraft. I’ve made kama blades with it - and man! it made for a real and functional weapon!
    I know what it’s like to design and build weapons and that good feeling one gets so I know you guyz are having fun! Your obvious sense of pride is a clear indication of how much effort you put into these beautiful and functional weapons.
    AND...The fight scene was awesome!!!
    See you next week!!!

      Thanks so much John! I love that you have a background in making martial arts weapons as well, so that you can appreciate the art. It’s funny you mention titanium because we just started working with Titanium about a month ago. It’s such an expensive metal though that I’m curious if our customers will see the value in it. Thanks again John and have a great week brother!

      @@Karatemart you got it Kyle. I’m just glad I finally found you guyz! Where the heck u been all my life!! 😎
      In the early 80’s I worked in a specialty machine shop and we made parts for navy subs and army tanks but also we made small run medical parts. One job we did was replacement hip parts and they were all made from titanium. I couldn’t believe how light it was! Machined okay with a nice surface finish. You guyz know what your doing but If you need any advice I’d be happy to help. Gimme an email address and I will contact you. And YES! Very expensive! I actually looked at some for a project I’m working on and decided against it so as to make this project affordable ....it really didn’t need titanium but would of been cool!
      So...It depends on the thing you are planning to make. You could make a really good blade from it which means you don’t use a lot of material keeping price affordable. This kind of blade though would have to be thought about in a different way of course but definitely borders on the apocalypse!
      hmmmm....that’s got me thinking now!!!

    I have a solid steel 6 ft bow. It’s heavy. Had to drop it several times I would lose control. If I didn’t let go the momentum is so strong you could strain your wrist easily. I am getting Popeyes forearms that’s for use.

    Any chance you guys @KarateMart could do one of these 72" bo staffs but in a SOLID STAINLESS STEEL? I realize it would cost substantially more but wouldn't rust and would be heavier and even stronger. I think it would be the ultimate bo staff and no one else is making them so you'd have the market on it.

    • @Karatemart
      @Karatemart  3 роки тому

      Hi James! Great suggestion! I think a solid stainless steel bo staff would probably be too heavy, but the company who manufactures many of our weapons, Kombativ does manufacture a hollow stainless steel bo staff, but I believe it is special order only. Thanks so much for watching!

    Aluminum seems better than wood in every way. Would you recommend 5 foot or 6 foot for someone who is 5'10? Or perhaps both? Its primarly for performance and self defence in real situations

    • @Karatemart
      @Karatemart  2 роки тому

      That’s an excellent question! Most likely, you will want a 6 ft staff, but there are martial arts where a shorter staff would be more appropriate. If it’s just for you to learn, I’d go 6ft, but if you are using it in class, I’d ask your instructor. Thanks so much for watching! I really appreciate it!
