I had one, like 15 years ago. The pocket staff was never intended to be a weapon. It was a magicians tool, it's what they were using for those "wands" that appeared from thin air. This recent marketing campaign of theirs is incredibly misleading.
I totally agree. They would probably make more money and hurt less people if they made it out of different material that doesn't cut the hell out of the users. "The magic wand that comes out of nowhere". but instead we have this!! Money man, lol.

I'm seeing a lot about this item recently. I'm not sure if everyone is aware, this item is sold in magic shops as a wand that can appear from nowhere. The people who first shot a "commercial" of using it like a staff were using it inappropriately. It was literally never intended to be used to defend yourself or strike someone with.
Thank you for pointing that out! I came here to say almost exactly this same thing. If someone is buying this self defense then they are being robbed. And they should have done some research first.

One Amazon reviewer said: "I bought this in the hopes that I could use it for martial arts performance, and based on the last couple days I'm fairly certain I can. The cane is definitely stronger than I thought it would be, and if you give it a twist to tighten it up after it unfurls then it holds its shape very well. I tried to see how sturdy I could make it by twisting it tighter, and if you shorten up the length to about 2/3 and twist it tight enough it's actually about as sturdy as a thin steel pipe and could easily hurt someone. At full extension it can definitely uncoil if you swing it too violently, but for a basic and flashy martial arts demonstration it should hold up fairly well."
I would have to agree with this review up to a cetain point. It is great for demos for sure. In fact if they marketed it for that I would say they are being honest. But to market it as as an effective self defense weapon which is what they did is not accurate. Even as a demo prop, there are still the other factors about this thing that makes it dangerous to anyone having it. So even as a demo prop, I would have to say buyer beware.

I have experience with the 3 foot version of this device. It is not a weapon or even intended to look like one. It is actually a magic wand for stage magicians. Back in the 1990s a friend of mine was a martial arts instructor and an amateur magician. There was an upcoming martial arts expo and he had a martial arts magic show as his demonstration. Part of the show was fighting me with this "staff," doing a few hits and then getting me in an armlock and a takedown. We practiced the demo with a wooden staff, and then with this fake staff for hours until it looked real, and this was for a segment that was only about 30 seconds of the show. It takes a lot of work to convincingly move as if you are being attacked with a wooden staff when it is really a flimsy prop. People are complaining about the unpredictability of the opening, so I'm guessing that these are lower quality than the one we used for the show. It wouldn't be good for a magician's career if his wand shot out into the audience and cut someone. lol
any magician who is using this thing as part of his magic trick better have good insurance for when this thing cuts his hand or accidently hurts someone in the audience. You probably work for the company or something. Because you may need to look at the ad again. Didn't see any "Magicians" in it.
@@Theartofkirkabrigo NO, I don't work for the company. I also said that the one my friend used was better quality than this one, probably not made in China, and this was in the 1990s. I said as much in the last paragraph. It will not work for self-defense, which is what this current model is sold for. It is far too light to be a good fighting staff. It would be easier to beat someone up with a Nerf sword than one of these things. Relying on the opening to hit a person in the face is a very bad strategy. You'd get only one shot, and it is an unreliable one at that. It would rely too much on everything going perfectly. I don't know any martial arts instructor who'd take this thing seriously. If I was working for the company why would I say it won't work for the stated purpose and that it was instead originally meant for something totally different? Yeah as a weapon it’s only good as a projectile.... but I use it as a training staff while I travel, it brilliant for that. Really flimsy and don’t extend to far otherwise the metal does curve in from swinging force with a sudden stop but it hardly takes any room and it works for review... but because the tired end it heavier I find I can also use it for spear training... only self training not fighting...
Thanks for the review it looked so cool and thought maybe it could be used for self protection and was about to order one but I kinda had a feeling it was dangerous, it’ll honestly do more harm to yourself than to an attacker
It's basically an appearing cane magic trick. The 'solid' sound is knocking the plastic tip on the desk or whatever they have handy...:) It will fold the minute you hit somebody with it...but you already know that...:)
Your reviews are very entertaining. You went from the Black Panther to the Pink Panther in the blink of an eye. You're right about the edges though. My left thumb has a few cuts from learning how to reset the staff. It's actually not that difficult to reset once you learn the technique. While I agree that it's too flimsy for honest combat,it might come in handy if you need a surprise distraction/deterrent in certain situations..Tell you what, this would have been catastrophic for kids in catholic school had the nuns got their hands on this back in my day.Can you imagine nunchuk carrying ninja nun truant officers?? That's a sister with a deadly habit!!!
lmao! your comment had me in stitches, Robert, lol. Yeah I think the nuns would have too good of a time with that. and for added punishment they would make the kids recoil the staff so they can suffer cuts, lol.
I see why they say to let go of it and recatch it after it opens. You can see how the base where he is holding the staff has a lot of bend and strain. And letting go of it allows the motion to travel in two directions instead of just shooting out like a rocket.
FYI, this is actually a remarketed cheap magicians tool. It's why all the ones that you see are shiny and have a designed coating. My guess is that they made waaaayyyy more than they were gonna sell otherwise so they decided to try and sell it as a weapon and not just a flashy tool.
takes a while to learn how to use it correctly but is very good for quick self defence, it isn't actually that flimsy when you hit people with it and only takes me around 15 seconds to recoil now I've practiced
How to use this weapon effectively. (A Red Mage Crafting Guide). Step the first: disassemble that design and Chuck the springy bits. You now have a long twisty sharp piece of metal. Yay! Step number the two: use tin snippers to cut that f***er into three even strips. Step third: attach a metal marble to one end of each of the ribbons of razor type death. Step IV: bind the other ends to a wooden handle. Congrats! You have successfully crafted a Sural! Make em bleed then smoke some weed!

Snowberri stole my words :P
Are there any made that actually work and can be used for self defense? If so could you guys maybe find and show us one of those?
Haven't found any practical self defense staffs that expand like this.
Thank you I almost bought this impulsively
You're welcome. Thats exactly how I bought it, lol.
Your video was the first I clicked on because the checkout said I only had 10 minutes and I went on a gut trust instinct worthiness from google. Your review did not disappoint. Will be a subscriber.

Thanks KC! Never seen your channel before but wanted to find out about the staff. Great video you've got a subscriber in me! 👍
Awesome, man. Appreciate you watching my video and definitely appreciate you as a new subscriber. Thanks so much.
He says ''its not for kids'' then he says ''unless your a Ninja'' bro you inspiring them to get one haha
Thanks for the comprehensive review. I was going to buy one. You saved me from wasting my money.
Stephen Dawson no problem, man. Glad I was able to help you make an informed decision.
Were those both really your drawings? That’s super sick. This is the first video of seen and I gotta say there’s a charm to your style. Keep it up👍👍
Aww man, Thank you so much, Zack. I appreciate your kids words. Stay tuned man, i'm going to bringing you some really cool content.
Tipped not tired sorry... mind my horrid grammar
"its too flimsy to hurt any by hitting them with it" until you smack someone in the nuts
Looking for an extendable spear... Starts out as a blade that you can conceal but that extends out to turn into a spear. Know of anything?
Can't say as I do.
Thanks for the review it looked so cool and thought maybe it could be used for self protection and was about to order one but I kinda had a feeling it was dangerous, it’ll honestly do more harm to yourself than to an attacker
Facts, my friend.
It's basically an appearing cane magic trick. The 'solid' sound is knocking the plastic tip on the desk or whatever they have handy...:) It will fold the minute you hit somebody with it...but you already know that...:)
lol, yep. Never hurts to hear it again though.
Great video!! Thanks for marking it! Really enjoyed you're experience and viewpoint!!!
Thanks, so much. Glad you enjoyed the video.
"Don't give this to kids", aww I was gonna go and open it in my friends eye. Literally what goes on in kids brains
TLBTM open this in your friends eye and it will be the pocket staff that will be going through his brain.
I believe the technical term is "volute spring" like on the m4 sherman tank suspension
Artie the Swolest Man in the World 😂😂😂😂😂
His face was price less when he dropped his phone 😂
Took one for the team on that one, lol.
I bought this pocket staff myself and I haven't opened it up yet. Thank you very much for the information and you did a great job
You're welcome, Graham. Just be careful with this thing.
He looks like a black master wong
You mean the Master Killer from 36 chambers? I'll take that, lol.
He looks nothing like Master Wong.
@@Theartofkirkabrigo no bro, Master Wong is a Wing Chun practitioner who has a popular YT channel.
Awesome review. You answered all my questions I had about this thing.
Awesome, thank you!
Hahaha love it when you said "Responsible adult" and then you see yourself swinging it like kid. 😂😂😂
Draw ninja KC can we use this gadget as a weapon like can we fight with it?
Not to strike with. Perhaps as a one shot attempt when you open it. But That's it.
Draw ninja KC
K but are their any other bo-staffs that are actually good and work as a weapon?
Code_Thunder none that are “extendable”.
Very fast and accurate strike.... The enemy phone died....
jliz1234 Lmao!!! That was a good one. Best one yet, lol.
How does my man not have more subscribers. Loves what he does and a funny guy. Sorry about your phone and awesome tshirt bro
Thanks so much for your kind words, man. Much appreciated.
“I gotta put this thing away” lmao 😂 This guy is awesome.
lol, Thanks, man.
Thank you so much for the help and the review.
For self defense wouldn't be to bad as a project tile. But also looks intimidating.
You're welcome.
What, 7 minutes to reroll? I can it in under 15 seconds, i cut me also 2 times, sry for bad english, im german, but good video dude
Does it take you 15 seconds every time? German? I was married to a german for 23 years:)
I see why they say to let go of it and recatch it after it opens. You can see how the base where he is holding the staff has a lot of bend and strain. And letting go of it allows the motion to travel in two directions instead of just shooting out like a rocket.
I only bought it for the tricks and practice before using my Bo staff🤟🏻
Why do some staffs extend from both sides and some extend from one side ?
FreshhBro it depends on how you choose to open it. But it opens the same way. The choice is yours.
my friend wasted his money on this LOL it flew across the room by accident earlier
lol
Uh
FYI, this is actually a remarketed cheap magicians tool. It's why all the ones that you see are shiny and have a designed coating. My guess is that they made waaaayyyy more than they were gonna sell otherwise so they decided to try and sell it as a weapon and not just a flashy tool.
perhaps.
Thanks for doing the review I was about to buy it but then I saw ur vid and realized how bad it is😂😂😂much love brother wish you all the best❤
Thank you, bro! Glad I was able to help you make an informed decision. And thank you for the kind words. Best to you as well.
I totally wanted to be nightwing too. I already do Kali/escrima/arnis.
Neai Tuppi Nice. I studied Arnis in my teens.
You are a good UA-camr but your intro audio is 8x LOUDER than your review. Please turn the intro music down.
lol, ok ok, next video though, deal? lol.
@@Theartofkirkabrigo Hey, I just found your channel and su subscribed!
Great video, way better than those over saturated channels.
Aaahh man, Thank you so much. That really does mean a lot. I will try my best to bring you great content that helps, teaches and informs, @@austin529.
thanx for taking one for the team.
My pleasure, lol.
A good presentation. Thanks for keeping it a B.S. free zone. Again, well done.
Thank you, sir. Much appreciated.
takes a while to learn how to use it correctly but is very good for quick self defence, it isn't actually that flimsy when you hit people with it and only takes me around 15 seconds to recoil now I've practiced
😂😂😂😂😂 good one, lol.
theres a new retractable baton you should test it and its strong enough to sword fight with
Can you send me a link to it?
i seen it on tv when i find it il send it to you
This is just an old school magic trick know as an appearing cane.
Jedite83 / Hacker Labs - The Geek and Otaku Blog This guys such a joke he's in denial about that. "You could shoot it out and take out an eye". 😂
I got this in my recommended, youre in the algorithm now man good job
Thanks, Brother. putting in that work really pays off.
