  • Probably one of the best fights in the game. Good mode overall, was absolutely worth the wait.

    To be honest, I thought that the secret boss would be Demon zangetsu from the 8 bits bloodstained Game, that would be epic and ironic at the same time: Zangetsu facing his evil self from another timeline. 😂😱

    4:02 You even take damage after defeating the boss(WTF?)...so close to a game over there

      Yeah I might have had a slight heart attack when I saw that. My only concern is if getting a game over at that point potentially glitch the game out...not that having it count as a game over and having to start the fight again would be terribly great, but better to have a shitty failsafe than none at all and have it break the game, you know?

    Closest Extra Mode final boss to this one is definitely Soma. Overall Soma's presentation was better with the multiple dialogues, foreshadowing and absolutely perfect line delivery, while Julius mode was also a much more complete mode with all the variables involved between different characters and the interesting plot scenario. As for the fight... This one is superior. Soma has some fancy references, but he uses 6/7 Souls from his 110+ and he ALWAYS. DOES. THE SAME. THING. Not that Miriam uses lots of Shards, but she kind of resembles Hugh and the Belmonts with her nice balance between quick melee and huge projectile coverage, and she is definitely using more than double the Souls(Shards) Soma uses.
    Also... Good run. Close call tho

      Soma's presentation wins on Julius mode by default being a followup story to the game's bad ending rather than being a standard retread of the main game with little to no story elements involved (not a bad thing, mind, but DoS's Julius Mode stands out for this very reason). My problem with Soma stems mostly from the fact that DoS in general is an excruciatingly low-damage game, kind of slow-paced, and Soma himself is very durable, which means all of his unique mechanics start to get repetitive as the fight drags out and becomes a miserable slog, heaven forbid you die during any part. Zangetsu mode is a fast-paced game mode in general, so having a fight that's just as fast (and even faster on Hard!) and making you make use of all your tools and mechanics in an engaging way just makes for a more fun fight in general. I don't really exaggerate when I say this fight is probably one of my favorite if not my absolute favorite fight in the game yet.

      @@FrogofWarRS I agree with the critique on DoS's battles overall. While other Metroidvanias have you constantly dying quickly in boss battles, Soma is taking tons of hits while like "is that all you got???". I don't think it gets repetitive on the boss's side, though. They don't take much damage, but Dawn gives most of them little HP anyways.
      Bloodstained's bosses are only damage sponges on Nightmare, but that's quite like playing Lvl.1 Hard Mode, so it's to be expected.
      Edit: Maybe one of the biggest problems on DoS is the high MP consumption in comparison to Juste, Alucard or even Miriam's skills.

    There's something almost tragic about hearing Voyage of Promise during this battle. In this timeline where Miriam falls to Gremory, this is it for her; you have to kill her and free her from herself. To me it feels like the music is mourning her this time. Voyage of Promise is a pretty somber song as is... I said before this feels more like Castlevania Dawn of Sorrow, but I didn't expect it to have its own Dark Timeline Soma battle in the form of Miriam! That is so cool! It's a lot better than Soma's fight too; Miriam actually feels like you're fighting the Shardbinder as you know her! Soma just utilizes souls willy nilly without making much sense and just spams the same one every time he jumps or teleports. Miriam actually puts in more finesse. She can be tough towards the end, but as you can see by the existence of this video, it is possible.

    So it suddenly takes a "What if..?" turn, showing what would've happened if Miriam had been possessed by Gremory like Dominique had planned.

    I thought this was just going to be like Richter mode in Symphony of the Night and I even thought that you could only battle Dominique. Instead I was surprised Zangetsu mode had an additional final boss in the form of possessed Miriam from one of her bad endings, not to mention with dialogue... I am so glad I was wrong.

    By using the guard technique, Miriam's second phase is completely trivialized. Just block her blow and hit back (you get three free slashes every time you block her sword attack from above). If she summons Valac, get behind her, double-jump into fierce slash. In fact, guarding properly makes this fight pretty easy. Compared to Dominique/Bael before it, Miriam feels like an opportunity to blow off some steam.

    • @FrogofWarRS
      @FrogofWarRS  4 роки тому +1

      Oh definitely. I hadn't really learned how his parry actually worked until after this run. Dominique/Bael definitely requires some work, but if your resource management and parry game is strong, you'll have enough resources to just spam helm splitter on Bael for a very easy victory.

  • @LonePhantom756
    @LonePhantom756 Рік тому

    For those of you who call this fight easy? It's F---ING NOT.
    The first two phases are tricky, but manageable. But the end phase, where she F---ING HEALS, and spams those sickles to make maneuvering near-IMPOSSIBLE while she lashes out with attacks that're hard to see coming thanks to the aforementioned sickles? Oh, and you have NO WAY TO HEAL?
    F---ING IMPOSSIBLE.

    Reminds me of Dawn of Sorrow on Julius Mode. But her attack patterns are downright better than Soma's. He's just too repetitive as a boss battle. Hundreds of souls, and he only uses like some of them. This one's much better.

    • @FrogofWarRS
      @FrogofWarRS  4 роки тому +5

      I didn't really like Dawn of Sorrow all that much, but Julius Mode was a genuine highlight and the final fight against Soma was still pretty good (most of the Souls he uses are staples of Dracula's arsenal). I do think I like this fight a lot better than Soma though.
