- Spring Hammock Camping. Wind. Thunder. Lightning. Flash Flood. A nutty group who decided it would be fun to camp in a severe thunderstorm & tornado warning. I brought a special day shelter to weather the storm and slept like a baby in my Warbonnet Ridgerunner hammock. Oh! There’s a bacon montage.
Thanks for watching. Cheers.

The immediate "buddies" was all I needed to hear to judge this friend group. Random male noises and antics will ensue and I'm all here for it.
My group is an absolute hoot. Love those guys. Good company can really make or break a trip. Thanks for watching!
Crazy rain ! I just love a storm in my hammock. Loved this.
Agreed! Warm and safe while chaos ensues out there. Thanks for watching!
Sleeping bag (top quilt/under quilt) check, pillow check, 2 backpacks check, looks like you were prepared for this one!!! LOL!!! Wish I was there!!
Wish were there bro! Hey, indent always forget stuff. Haha.
This video title is how I descibe my favorite weekends.
I love storms. I see a storm in the forecast and I try to see if I can go camping. Haha.
I have a good friend who always says she works hard so she can play hard. And whenever you have the opportunity to go play in the woods, you should definitely take it! Ya'll obviously had a great time. I'm a little jealous.
Exactly right! Good words to live by. Don’t be jealous. Get out there!! Haha. Thanks for watching. Cheers.
You guys are all crazy. Love it.
I love getting up early and rekindling the fire!😅
Well hell! Open invite bro!! Haha.
Rob, damn you guy’s know how to make the most of a weekend that most people wouldn’t even think of going out in? Great video and thanks for taking us along.
We find the rays of sunshine where there isn’t much to be found. Great stories and memories come from these experiences. Thanks for watching!
looks like a lot of fun. makes me want to get a tarp with doors
what a beautiful experienced to be with crazy friends and to be in nature i love it God bless everyone
I love my crazy Midwest crew.
I see your backpacking like Milosh. Pack in the front and back 😁
That was a good thunderstorm. I know Miyagi was loving it 😁
Cool meetup. Looked like a blast
Y’all need to come up this way!!
I am one of “those people” who go camping in severe thunderstorms too! 😅😂
Well, let’s go!!
Smiled all the way through...Well done gang, 👍👍🤗🤗
Thanks for watching!
id love to have a group like this out here when I go backpacking. so far i did a solo in the pouring rain and once with a buddy who had never been
It’s a magical thing to find the like-minded. From the humor to the open honest moments, they’re a treasured find. Get out there and find some misfits! Thanks for watching!
Felt like I was there brother definitely watched it till the end, you know how to keep me entertained. Stay blessed
Much appreciated amigo!
Thats awesome, be out there with ya boyz
That was an awesome weekend, can't wait to go back and do it again.
Yeah, buddy! I’m curious to see what other fancy gear you got!!
@@robpelton Of course I have some Outdoor Vitals gear, and probably too many gadgets and gizmos.
Rob, I really enjoyed this. Every time I see it snowing when I peeked outside of my office window, I think I need to be outdoors. Is it just me, but do the best times outdoors follow some rough weather. I loved this video because it showed how to deal with the elements and to still have fun. LOL. I love the Easter tent set up. Brother, I love your channel. You show what getting outdoors is all about.
I agree. Adversity brings adventure and your reaction to it makes all the difference. I appreciate the kind words and the support! Cheers.
So good to see you brother!! Excellent capture!
Good to see you Mr. Buckley sir!
Wow, the youtube algorithm knows! I just stayed home last night because of overnight predictions of 2" of rain, severe thunderstorms and hail. Thanks for camping for me!
I’ve had amazing trips when there was a threat of bad weather. Just go! Haha.
loved all these videos, glad everyone had fun
Lots of fun! Always seek the fun in a potential disaster. Haha. That’s bad advice by the way….
@rob pelton I never change plans because of weather it always works out just fine 🙂
love the vibe!!!
My crew has issues. Lol.
Looks like a great time. We moved from SC where there are trees everywhere to Marshalltown, IA about a year & a half ago. So far I’ve only been able to hang in the back yard and the neighbors think I’m crazy. I don’t hang in the summertime; spring and fall are much nicer, usually.
Welcome to north! Fall is amazing up here. Heck out yellow river. It’s pretty nice for Iowa! Thanks for watching. Cheers.
You crazy, magnificent bastards......😁
Your kind of people?! Haha. Thanks for watching!
dude amazing video! keep em coming my maaan, earned a new subscriber for sure
Welcome aboard!
Definitely a test to see if your waterproof enough
Haha! Yes. Yea it was. Loves it too. Thanks for watching!
You pealed that potato; nice look bro. Hammocks kick ass but I’m getting into my Duplex and I love it.
Hard to beat a Duplex. Still the love suspended slumber though! Peeled potato? 🤔
This was cool
Thanks! I love storms. Even in winter.
My wife and I loved this vid, thank you.
Your Ridgerunner, is it double layer and 40D? Looking at maybe getting one in the Nov sales.
Yea! The double has more weight capacity and doesn’t stretch quite as much. Plus, the Dream-Tex fabric is so nice next to skin. Thanks for watching!
20:25 Byrd knife. Looking sharp.
SpyderCo. 😉. Thanks for watching!
@@robpelton Spyderco Byrd Cara Cara 2 or Harrier. I had the Cara Cara 2 sitting on my desk in front of me while I was watching. I think that one is slightly smaller than the Cara Cara 2, Good knives.
I went full screen on it so I could see the label. Cara Cara 2, just like mine. 🙂
@@rungavagairun yep! Love em.
Man, who would be crazy enough to drive down sketchy forest roads and camp in a severe thunderstorm... Don't they know they could've gotten their truck stuck at the trailhead?
Glad you got out. Otherwise, I would’ve used the Subie and never let you live it down. Lol.
Great video! I also have a Warbonnet RR. What make of tarp with doors were you using that fit the spreader bar suspension? Thanks!
Oh nice! The tarp is a custom 13’ mountain fly from Warbonnet. I have a vid on it. Go check it out!
@@robpelton thank you sir! Love your vids! You remind me of me.
Rob, I will search your videos but what tarp shelter is that? I have been looking into Aquaquest tarps but that looks really nice and if it held up to that storm it must be a good one!
It’s a 3m 3m DD tarp. Here ya go! amzn.to/44AO25i
Hi, have you had any other War Bonnet hammocks? I have a Eldorado but am thinking of the Ridgerunner. Can I ask your thoughts on it? cheers
I haven’t owned any other Warbonnet’s, but I do know the Eldorado is a completely different hammock compared to the Ridgerunner. My buddy Midwest Backpacker actually did a similar comparison vid. Check it out:

Looks like a bunch of fun. Wondering which twig stove that is. I've been thinking about getting one.
This one is the Emberlit titanium. Nice little stove. Thanks for watching!
I'm not sure what eyeliner you use but, might I suggest a lighter shade or at least throttle back juuuuuust a bit.
Ha! Only standard dehydration and lack of sleep to create these alluring eyes my man.
What an awesome trip. Your always making great videos. Where did you get the chair insulation?
Thanks Ryan! The Underquilt for my chair is from REI. They may be discontinued though. However, I think Dutchware Gear has them. Thanks for watching!
What kind of underquilt protector did you use on this one? Looking to get one for my RR.
Although Warbonnet does make one for the WBRR, the one I have is from 2QZQ. Works great!
Really enjoy watching you guys hang out! Did I see some of you with down chair back covers? If so, where did you get them? Just recently subscribed and really enjoying your stuff. Thank you!
Yes! They make underquilts for the chairs. Mine is from REI, but Dutchware Gear makes them as well. They’re nice! I appreciate the support and for watching!
I'm from Rockford Illinois, do you ever do any camping trips closer to Illinois?
Hi Scott. Nothing planned out that way, but I’m always looking for new spots. Suggestions?!
What's the brand name/model of the stove you used to burn twigs?
That twig stove is the titanium version by Emberlit. Works great!

What is the fire starting, what looks like a wood chunk, you use at 18:22 that you have in a tin can? I just received some Esbit fire tablets and those things smell awful, like fish oil or something. They are still in the shipping box which contains the individual 3 boxes with 12 tables in each one and the smell is still escaping. I can't imaging a zip lock bag would do much good and I don't want everything in my bag smelling like fish. Thanks!
Those were basic fire starters from Coghlan’s. Very cheap and useful.
amzn.to/3poIfA6
And Esbit are smelly! Haha.
What kind if backpack were you packing into at the end?
That one is the Waymark Mile. 28L. I do have a review on it. Thanks for watching!
Have you been to this site before in your videos? Seems familiar to me.
Yes! Just a couple of weeks before with the hit tent. Where I forgot my sleeping bag. Haha.
@@robpelton Right! I remember that now.
Hi Rob! Quick question, do you use a pillow in your ridge runner Hammock?
Yes I do! It’s actually a pillow stuff sack. Fleece on one side. I stuff it with any extra clothes and it clips into the head end of my hammock. I’ll have it in a video soon.
@@robpelton Thanks for the info! I currently use the Arrowhead Equipment bear pillow with my ridger runner which works well, but looking for ways to reduce weight and pack space if needed. The ridge runner has a head pocket so some users don't use a pillow at all, but I'm curious how comfortable it is. I know you really like your hammock and I didn't see a pillow in your video, so I thought I'd get your opinion. I like your stuff sack idea. Thanks again!
Some guy just walking around, no rain gear on, looking lost.
Yeah. Those guys are out there. Haha.
When do you do this I would like to join?
For sure! Find me on insta or FB.
What camera are you using in vlog? It is so clear
Just an iPhone 13 Pro Max. Works well for me!
That poor raccoon. There's obviously something wrong with it. Did anyone call for help?
I was thinking the same thing
There was definitely something wrong with it. Unfortunately, there isn’t anyone there to report to. He ended up scurrying back into the woods. Hope he was ok. 😕
@@robpelton 😔
When a raccoon is up and about during the daytime (mid-day, not early morning or evening), there's definitely something wrong with it. Most likely rabies. You're lucky it scampered off! I once had a raccoon turn on me and chase me back inside my house. He was a ferocious little sucker!
I’d assume the worst, rabies.
You know how much you've enjoyed yourself when packing up is kind of depressing, i know that feeling to well ,we're not really surposed to live in houses,,but women love them so what can you do,🤷♂️ generally Hobos don't have wives,
