  • I got the chance to drive the 2021 Subaru Crosstrek for a couple days and here's my mini review of this car.
The Subaru Lane Keep Assist is NOT a self-driving mechanism. It is designed to HELP you stay in your lane, but you should always drive with your hands on the wheel and only when you are awake and fully alert. If you feel drowsy at the wheel, pull over and rest. Stay safe out there!

I drove a new Crosstrek today whle my old car is being fixed. It had the lane assist already on. I barely noticed it on the freeway... once I got on the narrow twisty two lane roads it became DANGEROUS! It fought me turning in the wrong direction at a Y in the road, it would start turning too soon on sharp curves. I had to keep correcting the steering and hitting the brakes. I had to stop and figure out how to turn it off before I had an accident.

I live In the country where there is many tight curves, etc. Should I turn lane assist off?? is it really that dangerous?? its a 2023 crosstrek limited.

I haven't driven a Subaru with lane departure assist. But when I dropped my 4G T4R off at the dealership (brake booster and master slave cylinder), the 2022 (?) Camry they gave me as a loaner had the tech. I've been driving for 21 years now so this new tech is a bit much for me. Also, probably due to my experience driving cars and never driving a lane departure equipped vehicle it was disturbing. Due to military service overseas I have a habit engrained (thanks Uncle Sam!) I drive closer to the left line of my lane, well this Camry ripped the wheel to the right which was slightly unexpected and really gave my shoulder some slight pain. What I disliked more was the adaptive cruise control, if I wanted to maintain speed it makes passing slower drivers difficult without turning off ACC or pulling into the adjacent lane sooner. The 5MPH bump is something Toyota has done for awhile. My 06 Tundra SR5 V8 had that feature (traded her in for my Impreza sadly).

@@Rubie_the_Black_Widow_Subie Same with the Subaru. I didn't have it long though. I was glad to get my car back. I don't like driving auto

@@rayregnogarage same here. That's the only reason I traded my Tundra in for my Impreza.

@@Rubie_the_Black_Widow_Subie meh. for a big truck like that I'd make the exception... all my cars are manual except my superduty van. and I actually appreciate that it's an auto
