Dylan, I've been watching your videos for a while now, and just wanted to say that you're doing an amazing job. The quality of your content is worthy of a 100k+++ subscriber channel. Keep doing what you're doing and you'll get there.
Agree! v5 is much better looking. More streamlined and minimalist. v6 made useless changes in looks that really cheapen the appearance -- like those Flash Gordon silver strips on the side, and moving the center reflective piece on top to off-center. Some designer with nothing better to do than to take a great looking shoe and "play" with it. Ruined it.
interesting comparo dylan. to answer your Q...based on design & value (price to materials) my preference is 990v3, 992, 998, 1300/1400. In mid price tier - 999 & 2002R. For entry level - 530 esp during summer/humid temps. can't wait to try v6 tho...
The V5 is the most comfortable sneaker I've ever worn. Hands down, not even close. The V6 is growing on me as far as aesthetics go, but I absolutely love the v5. The 6 looks more like a more modern running shoe. I'm still deciding on which to buy and at this point I'm leaning towards another v5 because I love the classic old school look and I know how wonderful it feels under foot. For me, neither of these would be shoes I'd run in. So probably will take advantage of the lower price and potentially a sale on them. This is not to say I won't get a V6, but I'd like to wait until there is a lot more information out on them. Nice job on the review, and thanks for putting these videos together!
I am with you. Love the v5, but not so much on the v6. Unfortunately, I can not find any v5 in my size. So it's either v6, or change brands. Which I am considering...
Overall the v6 seems much sleeker and faster looking to me. The v5 is very refined, but looks more like a walking shoe than an athletic shoe. The only thing I'm not sure about on the v6 is the large amount of 3M reflective fabric. Feels like it cheapens it a little, but it might look better in person.
One other observation, I think I'm liking the v6 more and more because it incorporates some elements of the 991 and 992, specifically the long panel of suede along the midsole. The extra ventilation also looks like it will be a lot more comfortable.
Wait, did NB upgrade the insole from Ortholite to polyurethane? HUGE upgrade in step-in comfort and durability if that's the case, most ortholites are light blue most PU's are gray on the bottom.
Thanks for your review on the v6. Just got them and the comfort level is way above the v5. I also like the looks of the v6. Thank you New Balance for making such awesome shoes. Switched from Hoka Bondi 8, way to tight on the uppers and narrow toe boxes
I really do like the update. They're different and they did a nice job. That said, the V5 has an old school look which I love. Just got another pair of 5's today. Gray this time.
Plenty of Hospital workers wear the 990v5, but I'd say both the V5 and V6 would be good. If you are really unsure, I'd recommend waiting until the V6 releases so you can try it on against the v5 to compare the feel of both
Don't have the 6's but I can say unquestionably, the v5 is THE most comfortable shoe I've ever worn. Like right out of the box comfortable and can easily be worn all day. You can't go wrong with the 5's. I suspect the 6's are much the same. Pick the one you like the looks of, either would be a fantastic choice.
I agree. V6 sales won't compare to what V5 sales have been. NB would be stupid to stop making the V5 available when v6 is released, but that's exactly what they will do. v6 is really ugly. Some designer with nothing better to do ruined it by adding those tacky Flash Gordon strips on the side and moving the top reflective silver piece to off-center. Now it's just another cheap looking shoe. I love the streamlined, minimalist look of the V5 and the incredible support and comfort. V6 just looks cheap, gimmicky and tacky.
bro, v5 or v6 have more roomier from the ball to toe area? and midsole too, who is wider? i am 4E gang. + i am not from US and here we can't import 990 because using pigskin. so i need your opinion before ordering online later.
V6, less ankle support on back and sides. Not good. NB is obviously going after the Lifestyle Shoe crowd and leaving behind the loyal buyers of the 990 who need it for support and good foot health, not just looks. A shame. NB is selling out to trends and bling rather than holding on to their reputation for quality shoes that offer good foot support and promote foot health, in a nice classy looking shoe.
Sorry, I'm not the biggest tennis guy. I have no idea what makes a good tennis shoe. The best I can say is: of course you can simply play tennis in any shoe, but not all shoes will necessarily be good for tennis.
I like the look of the v5's much better. I've had a pair for 2 years and they look brand new. I really hate the giant American flag on the tongue though. Best part of the v6 is they took the flag off.
The sole on the V6 looks chunkier then the V5. The V6 has to grow on me, right now the V4, then V5 are the tops for me when it comes to the 990. I like the OG 990, however the 995 was a better version of that silhouette. My NB favorites are the 2001, 2000, 2002R 1300, 1400, 995, 996, 577, 992, 993, 991 then the 990 V4, V5. Almost forgot the 2040 V1, and V2.
Small little rating update: The V6 has a 5/10 in firmness overall due to it being a softer shoe, other than that, the comparison still stands!
thanks for all these videos about the v6, im so excited for it. hope these videos continue to boost your channel to the recognition it deserves

Haven't tried the v6 but this has been the best comparison video I have found. Thank you!
I definitely say aesthetically I prefer the look of the V5 just a bit sleeker and more refined , though the v6 isn't bad just a bit too chonky for me.

They wanted to be hoka
@@sl2608 The foam is changing the way all shoes look. My NB Fuel Cell Rebels are very chunky
@@SuperWhofan1 New Balance won't be getting my money for this ugly thing. Looks matter to me. So does good support, not bouncy stuff.
@@sl2608 It’s growing on me and I will be buying a V6 after I wear out my V5’s
Just grabbed the v6’s. I had to go a half size down. Fits perfect.
gran turismo music and new balances mix together SO GOOD MAN

Grey comes out end of week 199 dollars

V5 feels very firm in the heel to me compared to the V3. Which kinda kills it for me. Can't wait to try out the V6!

design wise v5 is nicer than v6.
Is the outsole on V6 gonna be higher than outsole on V5? by how many inch tho?
Would you say this feels anything like the 2002?
Nice breakdown....V5 all day long for me tho!
