We took this video to show you how to install a Hitch Receiver on a BMW e83. It is the same procedure for all BMW x3 from 2004 to 2010. The only difference is that the bumper cover has two extra bolts from 2006-2010 models. In order to install the hitch receiver you will need to remove the bumper cover. It is not very complicated procedure. The only part that you might feel uncomfortable with is trimming the bumper cover. Take your time and be careful.

Electrics and wiring go through a hole that you can see under the right tail light at 1:59 and a few more times. I have a factory mounted trailer hitch but I watched this video because I needed to see that wiring hole - I want to use it to run a reversing camera through there and attach the camera just above the trailer hitch hole. The wiring connections are close to the battery, at the right side of the car, should be close to the battery. I saw on some forum a scanned BMW manual on how to install original tow hitch and saw those information there. Also, be careful if you have rear parking sensors, they also go through that hole. Factory instructions state that you should use zip ties to attach the cables so they don't hang. I hope I helped someone.
