It's mind boggling that buying a 3d printer and the STL files, printing just one army and then throwing away the printer and deleting the STLs is cheaper than buying the plastic kits.
It depends on how you actually value your time.
You're putting in a lot more money in hours, materials and equipment. And they will come with frustrating mishaps along the way and a learning curve to get a decent product.
@@KaffiRawr nah, gw products are overpriced, I'll go for the 3d print since I can do stl files myself,
@@ekulerudamuru Ye. Not saying it's unreasonable to do it. Just that looking only at money spent won't be a fair comparison in deciding what's cheap.
@@KaffiRawr MG Gundam cost less, better engineering, fit perfectly on eachother no glue required ever, with higher quality Plastics, colored plastics, glass plastic all in one box for much much cheaper price.
@@KaffiRawr nope, I can make lets say a 40k points army cheaper than buying them for they're actual price
Well someone's just been removed from gws "send stuff for review" list XD but great video none the less
Oh well, I guess I'll just have to 3D print everything instead then 😂
You say that like it's a bad thing.
Sure getting free stuff is nice.. but being beholden to all sorts of rules and censorship ain't, especially if it's a shady company.
GW's licensing agreement with content creators is insane and super one-sided.
After all their BS, I'd rather see this than the newest overpriced plastic bits a week early lol.
I was about to say this. Also he is probably going to be removed from the Community Articles, haha
Guess I’m getting a Saturn. Warlord Titan here I come!
Best thing about 3D printing is you can customise to your heart’s content before printing.
The Saturn has a pretty decent sized build plate too, should be perfect for those larger components!
So uh, did you end up getting one after all?
@@TheGodEmperorOfMankind_ Got a Halot one instead. Smaller but quick.
I imagine this sudden will to 3D print whole armies had absolutely nothing to do with recent events 😅
Join the dark side. 5 2000 point armies with only like 3-4 bottles of resin
@@alecmiller5296 Can you play with them at game shops/tournaments?
@@lowaimnobrain official GW tournaments no, general tournaments should have no problem as long as the print is easy to understand what it represents.
For games shops it may vary but usually there should be no problems. If you play in one remember to support it financially because a printed army equals to missed money to pay rent and bills for the shop.
@@lowaimnobrain Not at official ones, but who would want to play at official ones? You'd get nasty glares just for having an official model with lots of green stuff sculpting on it to make it stand out.
"Chaos corrupted Rincewind" brought a smile to my face
This is something that's been nagging at me for a few videos now. I'm not a huge fan of the red and blue lights and background used during your beauty-shots. It makes it difficult to really see and register all of your fantastic paint work when either strong red or blue tones are washing out the entire paint scheme. This was super apparent in this video too. I had no idea where the lights ended and the paints started and the addition of the red and blue background made things even harder to focus on with all of the bright primary colors demanding attention. I don't want to come across as pushy, over critical, or even like I hate your channel. I love the work you do and I PERSONALLY want to see it all in it's pinned, greenstuffed, and dead-animal-bitsified glory! I'd love to hear how others think too though
I agree. Especially for this, it blurs the details.
idk, if i follow the video he only colors it from the side, like a shade. but doesnt paint anything else except the eyes. you gotta like to have it like that, but it is of course more work to paint it properly/fully.
hiding the paint may have been intentional. it looked like he did a really quicky job on the painting in this video.
Agreed
Couldn’t even tell if these were actually painted due to the lighting
Just FYI: You can always have a silky-smooth surface for your FDM-printed base by enabling the Ironing feature in Cura - even if you're planning to sculpt the base anyway.
Thank you for this tip 👍👍👍
When filing or sanding down resin, I'd recommend wet sanding to keep you from breathing in any fine resin dust.
Remember those couple times when Pete received early models from GW for him to convert, like the primaris bikers? Yeah, that's not happening ever again.
who cares? Frell Gdubs.
Great job as always. Very interesting to see you do OSL. I usually prefer conventional paintjobs but it’s really nice to see something different every once in a while :)
Me too! Doing something a little more "artistic" and less realistic was a bit of a divergence for me, but it was fun to try out a new technique.
@@PeteTheWargamer plus all the time it saved. great to know you can speed paint an entire army and have it look super great
@@PeteTheWargamer Always great to hear a creator having consistent fun with his content.
I love your two-tone paint scheme! Very dramatic, but simple and quick to do. 👍👍👍
Loved the colour scheme you went with Pete, Very effective.
Thanks for posting your settings! I'm thinking of getting into 3D printing miniatures, and those might make a good starting point for me.
These are so spiky you could scatter them on the floor as crow's feet to keep away burglars
Alternate title "I spent $100 on a 3D printed home security system"
@@PeteTheWargamer they would probably only be a one-time use thing, since I don't imagine they are very strong
Glad to see you do this my friend
Thanks, I had fun doing it!
I have really been interested on 3D printing, but have never really been too educated about it. But following you has really boosted my confidence and also your step by step commentary really has thaught me a lot, and seeing you do this "trend" really has me thinking about getting 3D printer even more. Thank you for that
It's a dumb meme, where you spent way more money than you think because most 3D printers are designed to break in around 3 years worth of service due to how poorly constructed half of them are. Unless you really want to have a dozen armies it's not worth buying and spending all the effort working with toxic resin residue just for a casual side hobby. Pete the paid shill can do it because he probably got a discount with how much he plugs his cheap chinese tat.. considering Saturns have absolutely abysmal repair rates.
@@grimnir8872 you can get an anycubic photon for around 100 bucks, so even if it was to break after a year(which it probably doesn't), you could simply buy a new one and still be way under the budget. No need for some special discount.
@@HannesMrg I only see those for £250+ Any tips?
@@lowaimnobrain when I wrote the comment, the photon zero was available quite cheap, but it seems that anycubic don't sell it anymore. Maybe refurbished you can still find one. A few months back I got a refurbished zero for 86€.
I think the best budget option currently is the anycubic mono for around 160 pound(on aliexpress). Sadly over 100, but also better than the zero.
Amazing work man, been wanting to try a coloring style like this for ages and you put the fire under me.
They look great! I would like to see future videos where you 3D print parts to kitbash onto warhammer models. Blur the line so much between what is allowed and what isn't so that their stores and events can't do squat :^)
Great video as per usual, Pete!
Man, great video and I love this technique. Thanks for sharing.
Great video! Loved the quick paint scheme
I am blown away by the quality of the prints! GW is finished and there is nothing that they can do to stop the tide.
“Chaos corrupted Rincewind” is a hilarious and horrifying thought. 😂
Pre-supported STL files aren't always plug and play. It pays to run the sliced file through UVTools to catch unsupported parts to fix before you print them.
UVTools is overly aggressive and catches things that are not a problem, it depends on your setting, and what layer height your print at. if you print at .05mm then it wont matter if UV tools is finding an island at .01mm as it will be "merged" into the layer below it anyway.
Such a simple, yet effective and good looking paint scheme. Great sculpts as well although I agree there is definitely a limit to resin detail compared with plastic.
I think a bit part of it is the number of components. If a kit is split down into more parts you can have deeper recesses and more defined details. A lot of the 3d printed kits tend to split their minis into as few a parts as possible. It definitely helps with assembly time but at the cost of some level of detail.
Absolutely love Bestiarum miniatures! Think I've printed 50+ of their sculpts so far!
Stunning pj on these Pete. Simple but super effective. Might have to knick that for my HATE models... I think it would suit the tone of the graphic novels perfectly
Added to my favorites, great video :)
Amazing video, amazing commentary you deserve more subs🙌🏻
Great job man the army looks great. 👏
This is becoming a bit of a hot topic. Iv seen a few videos of 3d printed armies. Loving it. 👌
Definitely! The 3D printable models seems to have exploded too, lots of cool stuff out there.
Technology is just improving now that the domestic market for printers was opened up a few years back with the cheap SLA printers starting to become the norm due to cheap screen technology.. only expect it to remain the same or improve.
Fdm printers still have their place after spearheading the 3dp at home market, but just not high detail models. they're great for making armatures, terrain, etc. But you'll have a lot of work to smooth out print ridges and all that.
Pete is so inspiring. Just watched his Lion to Curze conversion. Just outstanding
Really cool, thanks for sharing!
Great job! Looks brilliant 👍
I think that Demon Prince definitely deserves a little more painting for certain. Still, amazing job!!!!
Very cool! Thanks for sharing
I printed myself a whole "Elysium" Kill Team to play with the Krieg Veteran rules. Since FW doesn't make those models anymore.
Just started follow your stuff Pete. I've recently gotten back into painting after hanging up my stuff back in the 90s. I don't play anymore but I have started painting again with my teens. I will say that being able to kitbash 3d models is quite satisfying. Chitubox, Autocad Meshmixer, Microsoft 3d Builder. I use the 3d Builders feature emboss to create custom icons etc from png files. So shoulders with Chapter icons of my choosing.
Looks dope dude!! 🤙🏼
Just stumbled on your channel and am really liking your content. Buuuuut we really need an army wide shot of this beautifully crafted army! Can you provide some?
Great vid man!
I think this is like the "Thin your paints!" of the minipainting community:
"After washing put the printed part with supports into hot (as hot as you can handle stil keeping your hand in) water, leave it for a minute, then remove the supports."
I basically never need to do any other support cleanup his way, just the odd on the model support for those hard to reach bits.
Yeah Chaos is pretty much ideal for 3d printing... great and clever way of painting as well 👍🙂
Games Workshop lawyers will be sending you a cease and desist and opening a store right across your house.
This was great! Perhaps some chaos dwarfs next? The paintjob looked fascinating.
I'd love to do some Chaos Dwarfs!
be careful Pete, GW Adeptus Legalitas can drop pod any moment at your house to sue you. That and the GW Stasi.
A.K.A Channel Exterminatus
@@PeteTheWargamer Stay where you are. The Ordo Hereticus will be with you shortly.
Great video man, love you
Glad you enjoyed it!
You should turn tgis into a series where you print an army for every faction
Been working on some warlord titan files for when i get my ender pro, also love the color scheme for this army
You've done such a simple scheme but it works so well. Looks like they're standing over lava in the moonlight.
I always find these conversion look best when you add one or two recognizable GW parts, like pauldron's or specific weapons with the 40k stuff.
Spicy! Love it!
You would have to be a real Buttermilk Bob to not want to play against that army. It's amazing.
Cheers.
Thank you very much! I shouldn't have any problems playing against the guys at the store I go to, they're all just there to have fun with the game.
Yes, game.
Let's all remember that this is a game.
Have fun. Post pics.
youre so bloody good mate
Would love to see an in depth how to video on the 3d printing.
I love this!
Love to see 3D printing
Thank you so much!
Is Archaon's three-headed mount going to get a rider in the future?
That’s rad
This is so cool :)
Rincewind? I see you are a man of culture
Bestiarum Miniatures has so many amazing models that are perfect as nurgle daemon princes
Definitely, I absolutely love how many dragons they do in various styles and sizes.
I think we can safely assume you didn't sign the NDA :-)
Haha, well deduced.
@@PeteTheWargamer No better way to make that clear - well played!
I just discovered your channel and am delighted by your videos. Thank you for all this awesome stuff and cool models. Great stuff Pete
Not sure if its been said, but one thing you can always do to get variance in your models is kitbashing. You can modify the files and splice together bits from other models before you even print them.
I love this,I was planning on printing out a krieg army too,do you guys have any where I could get files from?
Bestiarum now has extra arms bits with weapons, extra heads, shields, and so on, for customizing and kitbashing their models. Every monthly releas comes with them.
I think scaling up the demon Prince would have been dope!
Would you consider making an updated version of the slambo model from warhammer age of sigmar?
Never been this early!! Love the video already
Would love to see these all together on a table
Very nice! I'm thinking about getting a 3d resin printer myself!
Oh wow, usually I really struggle with removing the supports even before fully curing. How did you get them to remove so easilly? Great video.
glorious
Use some of the 3D resin and a uv torch to fill gaps, works great and offers a super strong bond!
talks about rincewind, you got a new sub my friend :)
Hi, brilliant video and the models and paint scheme look amazing. What resin did you use for the models? Thanks!
I would love to try this with my Eldar army. Something different for a change.
This is incredible. Good job mate, you got yourself a patreon
Much appreciated! Welcome aboard :)
On some multi part printed minis is is better to glue together before the final cure. Helps with gaps.
love your vids
Thank you :D
only have a "regular" 3d printer, a flashforge, so it isn't really good at really fine detail but with a base, torso, and legs STL, I use it to get additional model out of Tau Fire warrior boxes, given how much extra bits there're in those boxes.
I printed up a Sklavem Army with the WHTW2 3d files. They look amazing and the only one I don't have is the doomwheel.
Awh man, I have a mars 3 pro, and while I love the quality I get, looking at you working with that large build area in the slicer makes me so jealous.
Sameeeeeeeeee, It really hurts when I’m printing fucking chaos knights
Nice work. I kinda want to try the 2 tone scheme.
You should! It's a pretty "cheaty" way to paint an army quickly that still looks pretty good
for the different variation in the troop selection you can,
Flip the models and change the size by 5-10%
This will create slight variation on mass troops so they wont look as jaring having 20 models that look the exact same.
I remember seeing Tabletop Time doing something similar. Something I'd also do personally is (if I have the files) change around some of the blades and helmets to create a little more distinctness.
There are some great tutorials on how to repose joints in your favourite .stl editor. It's really easy.
Bought a Photon Mono 6k ‐ The quality is insane. Printing a Wraithknight for $5 that looks better than the GW is gratifying beyond belief
That demon prince is just 👌
next time please give a shot of the entire army all together!
I'm trying to get more involved in 3-D printing but I genuinely can't seem to find any Space Marines files anywhere. It seems I'm not looking at the right places? Any suggestions would be very appreciated.
really need to buy an airbrush - thats looking gorgeous
Would have loved to see them set up on a battlefield
What resin do you use for printing minis? I've had mostly bad luck with very brittle resin.
I got a Flashforge Foto 9.25" 6k printer for $269 and use Sunlu ABS like grey because it's strong and cheap $48 for 2000ml. The two combined I can save enough printing a army in a weekend to pay for the printer and the resin. Also the ability to kitbash with 3D Maker is awesome.
Dear lord these are gorgeous. Sculpt and paintjob.
Just good work.
Would it be wrong to ask for a video in OSL , namely a couple way to do it without an airbrush?
Definitely not! Have you seen my Plasma Glow video? That might be a good place to start: ua-cam.com/video/fRYM2sughuo/v-deo.html
@@PeteTheWargamer thank you I needed a tutorial of that exactly!
I keep looking at a 3d resin printer but I had a bad experience with the plastic one and now it sits unused but a resin one I could use for more than wargaming miniatures
What gloss varnish did you use through the airbrush?
These are really cool models 😳 instant want this! But not the room for a 3d printer 😔
