  • You have to have at least one interactive trap in your arsenal for Dungeons and Dragons! This trap makes use of a few reed switches, a Conwy board from Terrain Tronics, and some awesome stl files from TigerSkullRPG to make one of the coolest traps around. I also collaborated with TheDMsCRAFT so you actually get two traps for the price of one! Make sure to check out DM Scotty's awesome trap video as well!

      @@TabletopWitchCRAFT Did you know, that most Toilet paper rolls are the perfect diameter for the average paint bottle? I have been saving these up for months now. The lady thinks i am absolutely crazy, but I think it will all work out.
      I plan a wall-mount storage shelf using them!
      I only have half the number I need in order to do this project, So a lot more poops, or a tonne of paper mache projects nefore I can start.

    Very creative idea. Beside the fantastic design of the foam trap, the main trick seems to be the reed switches that are closed by the magnets to complete the led circuits to light them up. Great idea. I’ll have to check out the little circuit board you used, but it looks like just resistive leds and a battery are required with the reed switches to put this together. Thanks for another fun and challenging build,

    That is insanely clever and I love the trick with the magnets! I was confused when you said that you could change the layout of the "pressure plates" and I really wasn't sure how you'd do that. I'm not a very good crafter, but the only things I can think of that would improve this build would be to somehow hide the crossbows with like a magnetic cover (just so as not to give it away to the players unless they discover the room they're hidden in) and maybe to stagger the crossbows so that each one covers a different row of the hallway, cause to me it looks like the spaces between would be "safe zones" and that's what I'd think as a player if I discovered the crossbow room before the trap.

    Pretty good idea with the reed switches. If you wanted to make this trap more "replayable", I can think of using some DIP switches, or maybe one could be enough, to switch between different reed switches on the bottom. Of course it would require more reed switches and wiring, but it will be unpredictable even for players who played it already, since you can mount the DIP switch on the bottom, so the set configuration will not be visible. The "ultimate" approach, as I could imagine, would be to use full matrix of reed switches under the floor and to have one DIP switch for each column (LED). Then it will be endlessly configurable, however to keep it simple, I think even two variants for each column would be plenty.

    Your work as also is stupendous however I was a bit let down, I have been designing interactive dungeon pieces but with using springs, levers, and rubber bands. With your skills I would love to see what you could come up with in making actual physically interactive traps. For instance a simple rubber band could have allowed those amazing crossbow to actually fire.
    Some basic ideas are swinging secret doors and pit traps that works on hinges and can be spring loaded or triggered with a pull tab. Separation in the foam can be hidden in the texture. The pit trap needed to be two stories high to actually allow the mini to drop down to another level.
    Advanced ideas dealt with magnets which I know you love, lol, hope this inspires you with some new ideas. Far as I know I have not seen a really interactive set piece and I watch them all since when the Godfather Scotty was the only one out here doing it.
    Thank you Scotty and thank you John, keep up the great work.

    Okay here I sit and want to have a bigger hobby space to recreate your work.
    But there are 2 things that bother me with your trap:
    First: your player will see what kind of trap it is. Maybe build an encasing for it. Also reuse the design of it for other traps. Like a room that gets shut off at all sides and there comes "water" through the skulls, instead of spikey iron balls.
    Or have the skull exhale some kind of "fog" or "gas" that makes it difficult for the players, without killing them right away.
    Or combine it with the previous mentioned teleport trap. Once the player steps on a certain field, a related skull will light up, and the player gets teleported to another place in the dungeon.
    Or have one of the skullwall sections be a door with enemies hiding in the back. Whatever kind of trap it is, it will be revealed once it has been triggered by removing the encasement. (either to show the tank/crossbows/monsters/nothing)
    Second: I am thinking about how to improve the bottom side of the playfield and how to make the "related tile" more exchangeable without replacing the strip every time. (and without damageing the bottom side over time) Maybe a grid from plastic strips where you have tiles with the switch on top of it and a stripe at the end to pull it out safely.
    It should prevent the floor section from bending down to far and also help make this useable for much longer.
    But that is just what sprung to my mind, thinking about me and sometimes handling my things to clumsy.

      All excellent ideas Tristan! When a video sparks inspiration to crate all the things you mentioned it really makes me happy!

    Your work is amazing. Is there another channel that you run with your various models in campaign action??

      Thank you Me :) Not currently... but you might see some of that action in the future right here on this channel!

    Fun build John. A bit too technical for me. Not that I can't follow but it's a bit too much for me to go for that on a trap.

      Thanks :). You can always make the trap and just paint some OSL effects behind the steel balls... no electronics needed.

    Yet another amazing video. Wish XPS foam was easy to get in the EU (Denmark).
    How thick is the XPS pieces your using for the floor/walls?

      Thank you! Typically I use 1/2" XPS foam for those sorts of things.

    Hey TWC - Do you find that the Anycubic has a smell to it when printing? I want to get a resin printer but I need to put it in my office, which is a small spare bedroom. The door stays open all the time and there is a ceiling fan, but I was wondering if that is enough ventilation for me to be in there while printing is happening. I didn't see extra ventilation in your room so I thought I'd ask. Keep up the great work!

      Hi Troy, a great question. So everyone reacts differently to these odors. I actually have a 550 CFM hood over my printer that's a direct vent out of my studio. I did run it once without the fan and I did notice an odor but it didn't bother me, but I would recommend ventilation. Just using a ceiling fan to push the fumes around without any cracked window might not be a great idea.

    Not a bad idea, the only drawback is having to put magnets on the base of the minis. Its ok if players are using your minis, but what if I insist on using mine instead?

    • @TabletopWitchCRAFT
      @TabletopWitchCRAFT  3 роки тому

      That's a great question, and I talk about that in the video :) Really simple and I always try to not overcomplicate things. I would just place the appropriate magnet on the end of a 1/4" dowel and use that to navigate the trap or prepare a mini with a magnet in the base for your friends to use while moving though this area.

    This is a good diorama but a totally useless piece for a real game. Not here to offend but to give a honest feedback knowing that you put a lot of work into your projects. I think that you should choose between diorama and playable terrain, not both at the same time.

    • @TabletopWitchCRAFT
      @TabletopWitchCRAFT  3 роки тому

      Everyone has their own opinion I respect that. This isn't a diorama though?

    Fantastic! If you allow me a suggestion. Version 2.0 could be built by making the tiles that hide trap changeable.
