Thanks! 😀 This is an amazing spot to drive, so much fun. I really like how it's not corner by corner but more like longer sections of events. Doesn't require that many inputs but gotta stay on the line for a good lap time 😀 Also it's quite a lot of wear on the roads so I don't go all year around, but this was a good validation of my new digital FPV system so I figured it would make sense to give it a good push 😉 (I recorded the track review teaser vid one week later and at that time the park maintenance had raked the gravel to an even spread all over rhe road...😅)
Thanks mate! 😊 I've been doing this for a couple of years now and I think it's so much fun! 😃 This is one of my favourite spots but it's maybe not really nice to drive there as the wear on the road surface is really high. I can go slowly with respect but I really wanted to push for a new PB time when I got the digital goggles so I went there a few weeks in a row. Started slowly to learn the surroundings, then gradually picked up speed. It also adds to the experience when there is a clean line on the road. You gotta stay there or you're in for a bumpy ride. Much more tricky to control the car if going of the line, just like the real thing! 😁
Hi, thanks mate! 😊 I smashed my old record by a second when using digital dji fpv v1 goggles, and I got that amazing footage as well. This was really one of the higlights from last year! 😁 Cheers!
Thanks mate! 😊 Nice to hear the channels gained another sub! 😀 Check out my latest uploads, I think the last 2 years at least have pretty much this quality of vids. I mean I have developed over the years for sure but last years I've also tried a lot of different tracks, since I got the FPV gear to work properly. That really has brought me a lot more tracks to drive! 😁
Another great video, thanks for sharing. I really love your editing, really makes the "Rally" come alive. FYI ... KPOP RC gave you a mention. Keep up the great work :)
Thank you! 😊 it's so nice to hear. I'm a huge fan of the WRC, always since I was a kid I wanted to drive RC rally cars because of the awesomeness IRL. On tarmac when the cars are low and sparks fly when they bottom out in some extra deep cuts and stuff like that and also the fact that I could have driven the roads my self just about any other time of the year. Just brings the action into the same world as all spectators. Quite a unique sport in that sense! :D Also huge thanks to KPOP for mentioning my channel, that was super awesome all on it's own 😊
@@Weekend-Driver There is the story of Jann Mardenborough ... "Gran Tourismo" He went from racing game player to racing driver! Perhaps someone at WRC needs to see your channel. FPV rally driver to RL rally driver :) Would make a nice "Gran Tourismo 2: The Dirt Racer" movie! Keep up the good work :)
Thanks mate! 😊 Yeah, this was a really great experience. First proper place I tested my new (to me) digital dji v1 goggles. Immediately felt like I got better precision and easier to push for a faster time 😃 The down hill section is great, just trying to keep it balanced and stay on the line, such a nice feeling! 😉
Yeah, the in-car view makes it much easier to drive on narrow roads and of course, that I don't need actual line of sight to the car. Very few of these places have one raised position without any bushes or other obstacles to allow for regular RC driving. 🙂
Thanks for the sub and the kind words! :D I just switched to dji, it instalntly outperforms my sanwa mt-4s transmitter. It's a bit annoying to see the car all of a sudden just drive into random stuff.. xD But improving range on the FPV will really give more opportunities. I've been to places where both ends of a lap was out of range so more range and penetration is for sure good. dji excell in those area . What are you currently running?
@@Weekend-Driver Nice! I have a modest Runcam ( orange one) and a TBS Unify pro 32. My headset is entry level Eachine. I works alright however the range is the issue.
@@MauzyrockRC I was running some eachine box goggles as well for a while. Started with fatshark attitude several years back. I liked the one big screen, more work to be done with the eyes looking for where to go next, but the head strap/weight made them a bit floppy. Needed a butler to fetch the car cause walking with the goggles, they always fell down in my face... 😅 And also the space they took up in the bag. They did have diversity tho, the fatsharks didn't so, yeah. battle in the mind and bag what to bring. I liked to use the box goggs for showing other ppl, sharing the experience. Dunno if anyone ever went and built their own setup as I'm usually far from RC tracks, but I managed to keep a bunch of kids from chasing the car with their bikes at one place. Meant the difference between only crappy shots and a ew clean laps... ;)
This was my best run from last year. I pushed really hard in there. Was my first proper drive with digital goggles so I wamted to see if I could go faster compared to my analog runs before... 😎
Thanks mate! Yeah this was really all I could wish for, had a great run, a bunch of consistens laps, gradual forming of driving lines over the previous weeks of testing. Everything was spot on! I changed the side camera mount too. It used to have a support to the chassis plate but it was touching the gravel so I moved it to the roof this time. In my last short you could hear the noise from the gravel being led straight into the cam.. 😄
Thanks! This is one of my favourite spots, but it's so high wear on the paths so I don't drive there too often. Now I did a few weeks of practice to be able to nail a good time to see how the digital FPV system would work. Seems I didn't get slower so that's nice.. 😄
Javisst!
Thanks! It doesn't seem to make me slower at least...😁 I think this place was pretty ok on analog as well, but it's quite common that analog image is moving around when there's interference. That will affect precision and that's not a problem any more. Several other locations with more dense leafwork should benefit even more. Possibly the increase in latency will be more of a surprise, but I think the increased penetration of digital will make it less of a problem on the total 😀 More testing needed to know for sure but I think the above will do more than the HD resolution itself 😉
It''s like VR but with a camera and a transmitter that sends a live feed to a set of goggles. It's short for First Person View as it allows you to place the camera in your model and experience it first hand. It's the same type of video link used in drones but I mounted it to my RC car instead. The main benefit is that I don't have to have a good visual of the car tires to be able to drive. If going on a narrow road with snow banks, it's gonna be hard to drive because you don't see how close the tires are to the edge of the road. Going on any narrow road gives you a lot less time to detect that your on you're way off the course. Using the live feed I see what's in front of the car and if that isn't the road I can do something about it. When ever my vid states [FPV driving] I'm using the live video feed and that's what allows me to be more creative with the "tracks" I go to film. I actually drive the full laps without running behind it or fiddling in the editing. It's a bit more like a game in a way! 😉
Well, I was suggesting it for a while that if you want to know whether your sim is any good, just strap a camera and a few servos into a car and try driving it remotely and then compare both experiences. Driving the car as is will never feel the same as doing that in a sim - no matter how good the physics is in the sim.
I think in a real car you get so much more information. Also the information is spread on more senses. In a sim you don't get the g forces and in the FPV driving, the audio varies depending on how close to myself I drive (the audio is not transmitted so what, and how good I hear depends on where I position myself) Force feedback is not yet a thing on the RC controllers so it's almost exclusively down to what I see in front of the car. The scale of the vehicle probably also makes some difference but I still think it's a really nice experience this. 🙂
@@Weekend-Driver Yes, that's what I meant by the difference between real and virtual - people often blame a sim for feeling different and being "too hard" without realizing that it's exactly how it should be, since we can't sense in the sim all those things we do in a car. Very good point about the audio, and of course you are right about the FFB and the scale. What I wrote above mostly applies to the special case of equipping an actual car with remote controls and some torque sensing equipment installed that could read and transfer the FFB (as much as possible) - of course, a binaural microphone would also help a lot. So, my point is, if we did that - chances are, we'd complain about "bad physics" in sims much less than when we're comparing a sim to sitting in the car itself.
I was kinda reading it like that as well, Remote driving a full size car. Not gonna do it tho, not on this budget.. 😅 It's a good argument tho :) I've watched some vids on driving technique so I know there's stuff (a lot) to consider but I don't have any full scale racing experience so I wouldn't know how it "should" be. I mean, I have driven rental karts and normal road cars, but not squeezing every last bit out of a proper rally stage or anything like that. Still this is a lot of fun and given the scale, I don't even have to consider the sim being inaccurate. It is what it is. Any bugfixes will be done with the wrench 😁
@@Weekend-Driver Oh, it's more of a thing to consider for one of those "let's try this out!" channels flooded in views and money. It's just that seeing you implement something close reminded me I had a similar idea for a bigger scale. But this is much safer, not to mention much more budget friendly :) Thanks for these videos, by the way, and keep having fun!
