Beautiful work 👍 You introduced me to low-melt solder and it makes life so much easier with complex component removal in heat sensitive areas 👍👍 Thank you Alex for the effort you put into your videos.
Thank you so much for your videos, within a short period of a few months you have helped me reach the next level in electronics repair that I've been struggling with for many years. I have watched hundreds of UA-cam Electronics tutorials and your skills and videos are top notch. Thanks again and God bless.
I set up a home repair station recently and I bought my flux and solder from you. Much better than the 'amazon special' solder and flux, way more pleasant to work with.
This video was the best ahaha. I like when you smack the Benz Fob key on the table when try to take the mother board. ahhaha. Hope you see this comment. Hi from all the way to Guadalajara, Mexico.
Please do a video on lsr tester. Many people want to know how to use one. Should components be on board or off and what happens when testing on the board and the components are parallel.
The round pads are in-line test points similar to what you would use on a bed-of-nails tester. Very common to find these on circuit boards. The discoloration is merely tarnish of the finish on gold plating. That doesn't affect the signal propagating along the trace so you didn't really need to use a grinding pen - that does nothing.
You used low melt solder to remove the old connector, that is as usual but then you applied a different solder. What was that solder? I thought you only used the same low melt on all your repairs. You said the name of it but I couldn't catch it. Was it "BEST"? Just wondering Sir. Thank you for all your great instructional videos.!!
Low melt solder is only used to desolder. It lowers the melting temperature so you do not have to apply a lot of heat. You can find low melt solder at northridgefix.com/product/low-melt-solder-stick/. Solder used afterwards is Best Leaded. You can find it at northridgefix.com/product/best-solder-wire-roll-100g-0-3mm/. All items we used are found on our site.
We stopped accepting Paypal. They charge almost twice the credit card transaction fees. they do not refund fees in case of returns and they charge additional fees in case of disputes. I see no reason to keep using them when credit card is an option without the fees. With the large volume of orders we get. it's a no brainer.
low melt is just for temporary work, alex always cleans it up afterwards. you don’t want your device to start losing components and connections when it heats up a bit.
Capacitors cannot be tested while soldered on the board as you are testing the capacity of the whole line. Also I do not think this component is a cap but rather an inductor or filter.
Yes the capacity of the whole line will show. But even with that, if it reads an abnormal (low) value it's enough to indicate to you the capacitor is faulty. If you are interested to know the "true" value of the capacitor of course you would need to pull it out. That purpose was to check for a strange value, especially when he has a donor board to compare it with.

I love the routine of switching things off at the end of the video 😂 Good job on finding that cap to be the issue 👍

Thanks for telling me that I need to put solder on the old connector before removing it. I was using flux + hot air and always ripped pads..

I think Alex knows that. He mentioned he thought might be corrosion... So he used the pen to check the trace lol
greetings from uk alex ..great video as always ..
good job mate.
Nice job Alex
Love this channel
What is the best way to clean electronic pcb boards ? what do ya use Alex ? isopropyl alcohol ?
Since everyone is choosing expedited service, you should charge an even higher rate for that service.

How will you know the capacitor is bad without comparing it to the good one. Is there no continuity test
Good work
FINALLY FOB repair 😁
nice job alex
Hi Alex, what temp and airflox settings do you use to remove the ipad connector after low melt solder?
good morning alex
better then factory!

You need some kind of central on-off switch to save some time :D.

Nice 👍🏾

You often mention low melt soldier. Why would the factory use high melt soldier? What is the different or value to use one or the other?
low melt is just for temporary work, alex always cleans it up afterwards. you don’t want your device to start losing components and connections when it heats up a bit.
How does the flex cable fail if it's fixed and not moving or bending?
Possible internal corrosion maybe
It's The connector that is part of the flex cable that fails.
I'm not familiar with the issue but looks to me like again apple saved cents where they shouldn't have
nice
Usually when you are done you have a big smile ,why not this time ? 🤔
Can someone explain me what SWG in soldering wires/tin?
Came in for charging port replacement
