  • My husband (Martin) and I (Amanda) came to Belgium 25 years ago, to visit friends for a weekend... we liked it so much that we decided to stay. For the first 18 years we lived and worked in Leuven, a university town about 30km east of Brussels (also the home/birthplace of Stella beer).
Our two children, Maximilian (Max), and Jasmin (Jaz), were both born, and have always lived in Belgium.
Martin’s mother (Brenda) decided that she wanted to be closer to us, so in January 2017 she moved from the UK to Belgium.
As a family of 5 we moved to Domain de Nettinne In April-May 2017...
Chateau Nettinne (in fact the Domaine) was built for Armand Thiéry and his family, back in 1845.
Since then it has only had a few owners, but has seen a great deal in the time it has been standing.
As I explain in the video, it is our intention to restore the Château to how it once was. (It was changed vastly over the years, to made it safe for and accommodate the thousands of children who have stayed at the Chateau.)
Our aim is to post new videos at least twice a week, giving a complete overview of all that we have achieved so far (since 2017) including all the highs and lows, and the reality of buying, living in and restoring a Chateau… but don’t forget, we bought Domain de Nettinne, not just the Chateau. We also have Brenda’s bungalow (the concierge house) and the cottage (the gate house) to completely renovate (and the school building to finish repurposing), as well as maintenance… it is a lot of work!!!
We truly live and breathe for Domain de Nettinne!
I have to say that we are excited to be starting a UA-cam channel... It's something we've been wanting to do for a long time (we love having people to stay, parties, events, and generally sharing the property with others), but it takes courage, and with not being 'known', we weren't sure if anyone outside friends and family would be interested in watching our videos(?)
So, please don't forget to SUBSCRIBE, and follow us for more😊.
(For anyone wondering… I (Amanda) have had back problems for 20 years, and in recent months it’s got far worse, hence the very glamorous medical (Daum) corset 😕)
    Subscribe....please!!! 😁
Or if you have any advice or suggestions for us then please let us know down below in the comments!

Thank You So Much for doing this! I spent my childhood holidays there, I'm getting so emotionnal watching this, it warms my heart to be able to see it again and be reminded of all the good times (the animals, the games, all the running, the playground...).
Do you know the story they used to tell the kids about the bigger cave in the woods (sapinière)? Most of us never went inside because "it was cursed" and we were so scared to be turned into a statue 🤣🤣
Good luck with this crazy project, I know how huge but full of potential the place is

Thank you for commenting... we LOVE hearing about the experiences people have had at Chateau Nettinne, be it a short trip, a long stay... or even those who lived at Chateau Nettinne. We met 2 lovely people who happened to be in our area on Saturday. The gentleman lived in the Chateau 50 years ago when it was a boarding school. It was fascinating listening to him! He also told us some stories about the Shrine in the Grotte lol.
It's sad for us, but not everybody is happy we bought Domaine de Nettinne... a few that had a close childhood connection with the Chateau (they feel that we have taken it away from them). It's a shame that they feel this way since we feel, despite purchasing the property we are merely it's current custodians, and as such we try to love and respect the property and it's heritage. To that end we are always happy to see and hear from people who played a part in it's rich history.
Please do follow along (and 'subscribe', if you haven't already) as we continue to restore the Chateau 😀

I understand their disappointment, but it was too expensive for the city to maintain so they had to sell and the disappointed ones should be happy it went to people who care so much instead of judging! I came right after the pandemic and I was sad to see the "frontier" in the woods, but I was still happy to "be there", and now because of your videos I can also feel like I'm there :D it's awesome, memories come floading back, the smell of pines is one of my favourite and it's because it reminds me of that precious time.
I'm cleaning my grandmother's appartment and I just found (like 2 days ago, life is funny that way) severals postcards I sent her when I was staying there.
Thank you for sharing theses images and your journey, I have already subscribed and I will follow your progress with a heart full of joy 😍
And because of the facebook page I found out that I have friends who stayed there too when they were kids!
(Also, I've had so many dreams of this place, that sometimes I'm not sure what was real and what was not, so now I can finally see haha 😅) @@ChateauNettinne

@@LadyFlush Do you live close to Nettinne? Maybe we can arrange a date for you to come and visit us. (What a shame we didn't know you were here, when you last came.)
We collect postcards of the Chateau and/or Domaine, and now we have quite a lot, but it would be very interesting for us to see yours too (if you are ok for us to see?) :-D. We have very little idea what the Chateau was really like inside when it was first built in 1845, and so we are always looking for more information and pictures... actually from any point in it's history 😀

Not quite tomorrow, but I'll be there in Feb/March. I'd have to come back after that, though. But I'm serious.@@ChateauNettinne

Is the shrine on the property? It sounds like Lourdes but you are in Belgium.
I wonder if that grotto actually has ancient pre-christian roots? Lourdes didn't and was a garbage dump, apparently.
Did you say you were going to be sick?

Hi Paul. Yes, we are in the south of Belgium, not France. The Shrine is at the edge of our property… maps.app.goo.gl/1yMrBQWc2Xsi9Ktd9?g_st=ic.
Not sick? I have problems with my back.
      Greets 🙂
