There's a lot of free grass seed out there! My grass is looking vastly improved but the stand density still leaves a lot to be desired. We do have a lot of beautiful seed heads on it now though, hopefully it'll double the density by next season.
Never thought seeing grass growing would be so much fun to watch. Beautiful scenery. The mob will be happy. By the way do you have chickens following your cattle as some regenerative farmers do.
Greg: You were talking about the many values of the honey locust tree and one of the benefits you mentioned was that in the soil below the tree it has a "lower lygnen or legmen value." What is that? And why is that good to have? Thanks. I'll sign off as "The City Boy." That is a beautiful pasture!!! You are more than winning the battle in regenerative ranching.
I enjoyed your video and reading the informative comments was the boiled icing on my Grammies chocolate cake they make you want more, so good. Now for the sheep poop story Mum had fond memories of her great uncle Lee I think they shared a sense of humour. Uncle lee took her on a tour of the farm when Mum asked him what is that stuff I suspect that he was perfectly aware that it was some sheep poop. He took out his handkerchief put some it and told her to ask her grandmother what it was..I expect his sister had experience with his charming ways! He taught Mum some songs she in turn taught her daughters and grandchildren and great grandchildren I can’t sing but I remember some of the words..down in the barn yard on my knee thought I heard a chicken sneeze . The chicken sneezed so hard with a whoop and a cough busted it’s head and the tail flew off... Mum always ended it with oopity oop oop pea soup. I wonder how the song goes it surely isn’t what I just wrote ...tomorrow we will visit an apple orchard. When I was a child I disliked walking in fields I would be so itchy but it wasn’t ticks or other insects I am allergic to timothy but I am perfectly fine with watching you wax lyrical about the dangerous stuff! Heck you have done a fine job with teaching me the wonders of the earthworms why not Timothy? 👍👍👍👍🖖🖖🖖🖖🐓🐑😇😉🥰😁🙋🏼♀️
Hello Greg. Really enjoy your videos from S.E. sask Canada. Just curious what brand poly electric wire you use. The stuff I have seems to break easily. Thanks
Do you buy your hay? I know that you have your "bale unroller", but I never hear you mention anything about baling hay. The hay that you are unrolling on your fields, does it come from your farm or an outside source?
The only useful thing about ticks is they feed a lot of critters; reptiles, amphibians and birds wouldn't be as plentiful if you didn't have a large population of ticks feeding them. Even opossum will gorge themselves on ticks if given the chance.
We should be very concern about "ticks" - this year the CDC (Colorado location) have requested that every abatement (Vector)organization send their samples to them? You may of notice the increased advisements in regards to "ticks" over the past few years
@@brada1803 I don't think there's any more ticks then there's ever been. Folks are freaked out about mosquitos now too. I think it's just the city mentality working it's way out to the country. I'm real glad every town in my county opted out of the arial mosquito spraying program. That would have been a nightmare.
@@swamp-yankee Very glad to hear of the opt-outs! I don't want to fear monger (But) ONLY want to Inform - the Aedes aegypti Mosquitoes have been allowed to become established and if dieases are induced to be Vectored (It's a big problem) many abatement organization are "wishing" for this new Income stream. Good luck - the State of California have been working hard (Mosquito associations) to set up never ending funding with many Cities/Countries. The major problem is the mosquito/ticks can be migrated - but having organizations that have a special Interest "Not" to eliminate or reduce to manageable levels vector populations for their own survivor (general Warrants to "Inspect" private property) have already been court approved - take care
Another question! Can you go over how you deal with autumn olive shrubs? I remember reading an old article you wrote about them but don’t remember all the details 😂
Wow, thats a lot of ticks! Sounds like you need some Guineas. Thanks for sharing.
You bet
Guineas were my first thought, too!!
"Dappled" shade from a "beautiful" honey locust tree is a good description, Isaac.
Another great video! Thank you Greg and Issac for sharing your knowledge! So exciting to see the success you all are having! 🙏👍😊❤️

YES!! Decapitating ticks is as satisfying as squishing grubs!!!
Don’t have a farm but have enjoyed this ,diversified my own lawn in the city by overseeding with different species
I used to hear the word ‘stout’ and ‘directly’ used a lot when I was a kid in Missouri-not so much elsewhere.
That old tank is like me. You can still use it, but not to it's full capacity.
Can't wait till we have pastures like that. I got 3 ticks the other day on our acre lot in town.

Use to run chickens.
Watching grass grow is a lot better than watching paint dry... :)
Pond water that doesn't smell is alright! - of course (mosquito fish, 3 or 5) will help if that tank is not used alot

Lignin!
Lignin is a compound in grass that animals cannot digest very well. The lower the lignin value, the better gains you get from your forage.
Another great video Greg!
Boy that boy has a good head on his shoulders.
You are certainly correct.
What do you do about ticks on your cattle and sheep? Greg I really enjoy your videos. You are and excellent teacher.
Greg you just love your grass and sorry to hear that your ticks are bigger than mine.

How do you seal the water inlet?

I don't think i could live where there was that many ticks
Just throw a patch on the tank.
Harbor freight hole saw. Because probably don’t use that often.

Just another part of the system. Bringing nutrients back down the food chain.
We need more opossums!!

If you put a tape measure around the base of that honey locust, you will have holes in your tape measure...
What is the best Shade Tree for the Cattle Pasture in your area? Not Thorn Honey Locust, Not Oak?
Honey locust is a good one, followed by white oak trees.

greg how many total acres would you need for forging for as many live stock as you have 370 around that ?
Running a large multi-specie flock of birds around on your farm could maybe help deal with the ticks
Food for predators
@@haroldhubbs8117 nah, there are plenty of wildlife to feed on when you run your farm this way.
You could fix that tank with $5 of flex seal wide tape
