Disney, DeSantis allies reach settlement over special district

- Walt Disney (DIS) and the Central Florida Tourism Oversight District (which replaced the Reedy Creek Improvement District) have reached a settlement. Disney and the CFTOD board, appointed by Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, had been fighting in the courts over control of the district. The feud stems from Disney's opposition to Florida's passage of the so-called "Don't Say Gay" bill, which was backed by DeSantis.

What expiration date are you referring to? There was none that I'm aware of. The Florida Supreme Court ruled in 1968 that the agreement did not violate any laws or the Florida State Constitution. No one had any problem with this agreement until Disney DARED to say that they opposed Ron DeSantis' draconian "Don't Say Gay" law. From that moment forward Ron began his legal crusade against Disney. He even bragged about his motivations multiple times in public to his adoring crowd. Ron will be gone some day, but Disney will be here forever. Even if Disney had to give up some things, they can rightfully ask for those things back since they generate BILLIONS of dollars in tax revenue for the state. Ron was/is effectively going to war with his own state. What a personality-free tool he is.
He is not that young. I grew up in a family that could not afford a vehicle. We took the bus everywhere. I was 9 months pregnant for my daughter taking a bus with my own mother to get to doctor appointments. Yet, I’m not attacking people on their choices of who or what they want to be.

No corporation should have power above or in place of government, to pass laws, to ignore legitimate government oversight. That being said, government needs to fight for and respect the rights of citizens before grasping power and money away from them.
The government had a contract with Disney. Desantis didn't like a social opinion that Disney expressed so he used his government position to unilaterally cancell the contract to punish Disney for their free speech. That was a dictator move.
He didn't have to like what Disney said, but it was wrong to try to use the power of government to shut them up. We don't have dictators in this country!

The whole idea of Disney having their own local government was BS back when "Uncle Walt" made the deal in the first place 50 odd years ago.
Disney should relocate to South Carolina so Floridians have to pay (ultra-high) property taxes. Why should Disney subsidize Florida home owners property taxes?

Not hardly corporate welfare. Disney brings in billions of dollars into the state of Florida and pays millions in taxes. Their presence there generates tens of thousands of jobs in hotels, malls, restaurants, auto rentals,etc., that would be lost if Disney left.

Not really. Disney didn't get their special privileges to govern their own political district back (actually illegal for a corporation to do, lol) they now have to abide by the same rules that places like Universal, Sea World, ect have to abide by.

@@Dapper_Dean You know how settling works right? They both agreed to certain terms. Overall, Florida (Not Desantis....) got almost entirely what they wanted. Disney lost on their federal suit, and they knew they couldn't win the suit Florida had agaist them (Yeah, Florida was suing Disney, not the other way around) Overall, if you actually go look at the documents, Disney took some major L's.
