  • Marek Larwood walks the Stenbury Trail on the Isle of Wight, a 10.9 miles walk from Shide (near Newport) to Ventnor. Apart from one tiring climb this is a very easy walk. The route was taken from the Outdoor Active Website and featured as part of the Isle of Wight Walking Festival in 2011. Links to the route here: out.ac/Cy3uM

    The bus stop on Albert street is directly across from my old house when I lived in Ventnor, beside the old Coconut Grove. Before they built the flats beside it, that whole corner used to be a bus loop/exchange where I took the bus to St.Boniface primary school. I'll be back in a few weeks, looks like a walk that's well worth it. Nice one, cool dude!

    Just noticed halfway through the video that no trekking poles featured in this walk. I bought my first pair a month ago and I won’t attempt a 10+ mile walk without them now. As for my best PPU item, it’d have to be my glasses that were £25 about 11 years ago and which still have the same prescription lenses in them, i wear them constantly as I’m almost blind without them. Finally, my fave walking snack of the week are Jelly Babies - yum. Stay cool dudes

    I’m in Ventnor this week so great to learn about this walk coming into town (I must have just missed you though!).
    My best per use is a pair of Merrell Hut Slippers bought in late 1999. Still using them every day for getting the washing in from the back garden. £70 / (365x21.5) = 0.9p per use. To be honest they smell and are falling apart now. Not use I’m happy paying 0.9p for every time I use them any more 🧐

    Fantastic walk! I really do enjoy the little bus-eyed views, they make me inexplicably happy. :-)
    Also 100% behind the "price per use" theory, having applied this same logic to items I have bought.
    My fiance says his best 'price per use' was a pair of converse I made him buy when his only pair of shoes he owned literally fell off his feet. He bought them for £40 and reckons he wore them nearly every day for 6 years (give or take a couple of days where he had no need for shoes).. so their price per use was about 0.02p by the time they also fell apart!
    Mine is less good (but it was the most expensive clothing item I'd ever bought) a dress for my graduation, it was £80 from a posh shop in Cowes AND purchased during Cowes week- which probably added 5000% to the RRP! (utter insanity)... but it was covered in pictures of vintage cars, and it had pockets! Pockets!!! I've owned it for 12 years now and given that most people would wear an occasion dress like it only once or twice I've worn it maybe 50 times, so £1.60 per use?

    • @cdwc
      @cdwc  3 роки тому +1

      That is an excellent PPU on a quality item. £80 is still good for a fancy dress, especially one with pockets.
      I wore Converse shoes throughout my twenties into my late thirties, but the flat soles really wrecked the arches on my feet. Now I have to wear wide fit ones that look like built up shoes so beware the Converse.
