I Tried CROSS-COUNTRY SKIING! | Miranda in the Wild

- I went on a cross-country ski adventure extravaganza! I just started cross-country skiing, and it's become my favorite winter sport, but I think it's still pretty underrated! So I busted out the nordic skis and hit the cross-country trails with my dog and crew.

Nala having the time of her life out there.
We should all try to be more like Nala.
Thank you REI for these videos! @Miranda’s vibe makes them extra nice 👍🏽 🏕 ❄️
couldn't pick a better host. positive, smart, informative and let's be honest she's a cutie. her lil dog is a nice addition to these videos.
The gift of imperfection 👏🏻
The magic happens outside our comfort zone. 💪🏻
It’s not Miranda if there isn’t a poop interlude. 🤣
I loved that Miranda's first instinct for turning on the lights was that there might be a Clapper in the hut. :D 11:54
Is it really nature without Miranda yelling in it?
And burping. 😂
@@Not31337
Or worse. 😄
@@timdowney6721 She poops glitter and you'll never convince me otherwise.
@@AF-tv6uf glitter is uncontrollable. i dont wish that to anybody.
I have no idea why I keep watching these videos, it makes me want to go camping and cross country skiing lol
Miranda’s energy and attitude are the best!
She's the avatar of camp counselors + park rangers everywhere 😊
Her scoff gives me Alex Honnold vibes
To begin with - You are just lovely. I love your goofiness if you don’t mind me saying. I admire the editing (big up film editor!). I’m in love with the videos from my head to toes. The videos are of course very informative (a lot of good hints, thank you!), but the gosh darn is just… I’m dumbfounded.
About skiing (cross country skiing is basically called just skiing here in Finland) - You did good. I guess you haven’t done it too much, but you did really good. Hint: You could use your midriff / abdominal muscles a bit more, and maybe have longer kicks, further back. Consider also bringing your hands closer to your body. All who wonder if they could do it, just go out and do it. It’s fun. You’ll fall couple of times in the beginning, but it’s snow, it won’t hurt. There’s a point when you get the idea of smooth synchronized movement of hands and the feet combined with the midriff and then you’re going forward in a pretty fast pace. And no, I’m not a skiing teacher either; I’m just a Finn who has learnt the skill when I was a kid.
If you and your crew ever consider taking your show abroad, consider Finland. It’s a lot like Washington or Canada, but there’s a lot less harm of the bears. We have a lot of reindeers though, in Lapland, they won’t try to steal your food. And Santa Claus, he doesn’t either. And not too much covid-19 - we’ve been lucky. Try to imagine a goofier country than any of your videos - that’s us. The midnight sun is just around the corner, a lot of summer trekking to do.
The diagonal stride becomes second nature after a while and the swing of the back leg, off the snow in the air drives your next kick. Getting proper lessons is crucial or bad habit will become ingrained and the efficiency of XC skiing becomes lost in that case. Here in South East Australia we have XC skiing but the XC ski season is quite short and unreliable at times. XC skiing amongst ancient Eucalyptus Pauciflora trees is unique to Australia.
10:58 - Awww 😢
11:00 - Yay! ☺️😂
I hope we get the full version soon! I’m glad you survived the blister and the almost darkness to adventure another day!
Probably one of my new favorite channels.
Wow Miranda you have the energy to power all of North America. I love your enthusiasm!!
Isn't she great?! 😄
You should bring your crew up to Canada and we can do a trip out in the Canadian Rockies next winter! Or come join me for a couple days on the Great Divide Trail this summer!
I love dogs play in the snow
It's so fun to watch!
I was hoping the dog would have little skis.
Miranda, your ebullient and joyful nature is infectious. You make getting a blister sound fun. I hope you enjoyed your adventure.
Had no idea this existed, looks like an amazing time. Constantly blown away at all the PNW has to offer, love this series!
Happy to know I'm not the only one who falls over standing still. On both skis and snowshoes. lol
I did cross country 20 years ago at a camp. staying still or starting on a hill always screwed me up. day 2 I went ahead and did better without the traffic. I'm gonna try to get fit enough for it again. I can hike and climb, but idk about aerobics
Every REI needs a Miranda
The world needs more Mirandas.
Hey there Miranda, Nala and the crew! Loved this, especially your pink cheeks, so cute! I grew up in Québec, and used to x-country ski as a kid. The one thing I kept thinking when you were going downhill was… »Miranda bend your knees, bend your knees… »it’ll lower your centre of gravity and therefore lessen the chances of falling 🤩 Yey! Cheers from 🇨🇦
That's a good one! Thanks for stopping by! 😊❤️
Go Miranda! This video gives me life :)
Especially when you are stuck in the house due to covid-19 and the further you can go is the park near where you live...
Her dog gave her a reason to tall about poop this episode
That was a nice trip. Im not a winter camper but this made me think about it.
You should train Nala to pull! She seems to have the energy for it!
Thank you REI and Miranda. It was fun.
I have such great memories of that valley and those huts, that place is amazing!
I haven't cross country'd in years. It is a good time and seriously under rated. Props to the videographer shooting smoothly in reverse in the tracks too. And how come you don't call your poop commentary poopologues? :)
Well NOW I'm going to call them that! - Miranda
That was one of the nicest outhouses I've ever seen. It was even painted inside and had a toilet seat!
Yaaaa... another adventure!!
Aways a fun video, Thank you!
Omg! That looks SOOOO fun!!
looks like a nice groomed trail One must place their hand through the straps so as to have more effort from the wrists instead of gripping the poles tightly and expending energy on gripping the poles a more relaxed grip
I thought u weren't suppose to ski with hands through the straps.
@@sacura605 _Downhill_ and backcountry skiers often take their hands off the straps, to avoid injury to their wrists/shoulders if a pole tip gets caught under a tree/rock in the snow when skiing in close quarters and wrenches the arm back, or if they crash at high speed, and the pole stays connected to the arm and twerks it around. On the other hand (ahahah), when cross-country skiing (or snowshoeing, or hiking with poles), you should slip your hands through the straps from the bottom before you grip the pole, trapping the straps between the hand and the grip, so that you can push against the strap when pushing back, without even holding on to the grip, which is a huge relief for your forearms.
It also lets you push waaaaaaay back when you're not holding the grip, to full extension of your arm, which adds a lot of power to each push.
You make really good, fun, and informative vids
I love watching these videos :) ❤❤❤
You are a beautiful person. Thank you for sharing your adventurers!
I can't believe I only now discovered your videos. Love them!
I'm so glad! - Miranda
The dramatic music!!
I just started cross country, and I also like it a lot.
Hahaha, like a Care Bear...nailed it.
Miranda, You can use your pole tip to twist open the bindings.
That’s awesome!
Cross country skiing from Pizza Hut to Pizza Hut...🤪🤪🍕🍕🍕🍕
How does one get onto your production crew? I can do all the outdoors stuff and run all the camera stuff including drones.
Nala always by her side
Wonderful!!! That was so beeeeeautiful! How does it get any better, than "being there" with the pure Joy of Miranda?!? Well, it just doesn't! It brought back great memories of X-C skiing, back in the early '70's: Three-pin bindings, wooden skis, pine tar, blue wax and green wax--and the dreaded days of klister! Aaaarrrggghh! Hahahahaha!!! Good times! Thanks, Miranda! :)
First time checking a video on this channel cause I am looking to get into cross country skiing...
Only 4 minutes in and already loving it! 😊
The North Cascades Mountain Hostel in Winthrop is rad.
New video get hype
You and the dog make it look easy going down hill.
I have enjoyed the view and i had lot s of fun with you. Good video 👍
This is a great activity for stumbles lol
I have been in the Methow Valley in the Summer, but never in the Winter. Looks like a great place to cross country ski, which I do alot of.
That's awesome, Jerald. You should check it out this season.
❤❤ favorite episode 😂😂especially when Nala is pooping 💩 🐕 priceless
OK that looked fun. You're officially Sweat Bear!
"A ball that wearing a skirt" XD you kill me
😂😂😂
"Care Bear Sweat" -- First time I heard of it, but understood instantly! ... And what was the "poop" count? Did anyone track it? ... And thanks for giving an overview of cross-country skiing! I've never skied, so it was nice to see how you could do it while camping!
best description of badminton i have ever heard
Badminton: where one runs around hitting a ball with a skirt
😂 Thanks for watching!
Damn that looks like fun
This episode probably has the best cinematography of the show. Beautiful shots.
Thanks Garrett!
Another fun video. Lots of "sweaty" and poop and pits. LOL..........Thanks for the fun.
"Nala, you gotta stop walking around..." (Next shot: Nala looking like she's been properly reprimanded in the cutest Nala sort of way)
I hope we get to see a ski adventure in 2023!!!!
Bob Ross pittoresk I’m just ❤️ IT!
Hun, I think that’s car-to-car skiing with a hut in between 😁 Seriously, what fun, always wanted to try it!
I see they haul supplies to and from the hut for you. What were you packing out yourself vs what did they haul out for you?
I carried a pack with some water and treats for Nala, extra batteries, and the ten essentials - just in case! Everything else went on the snowmobile. - Miranda
WOW. As someone who downhill skied a TON as a kid, I never 'got' cross-country skiing. Why do people do it? How is that 'fun'? After a while, I got out of practice, chipped a tooth, and got a bit scared off from downhill stuff. Now I'm wondering why I've never done cross-country skiing before, because it looks amazing. Like hiking with a twist lol
Go nala!!
Classic Methow W
Great video
"Haven't we gone up up enough?" Me on every hike lmao
... Miranda , you did great ...Looked like a natural ...... Looked like a good time .. Q: How come you were the only one wearing your backpack ?? While the others put their gear on the snow mobile sled. ?? ...
.... Colorado has a hut to hut system that was designed for military winter training ,, back in the day,, Have heard it's still operating and in the summer months , used by hikers and mountain bikers .... might have to check it out ...
You should check it out! I carried some snacks and water, plus the ten essentials. My pack was big enough to hold most of what we needed for the short ski trip, and everything else went on the snowmobile. - Miranda
Sometimes the UA-cam algorithms hit just right
Those are some really extra wide cc skis!
17:45 “yeah… i think i’d rather smell other people’s combined poop stench than one ripe poop.” 💩🥴 never change, miranda.
Hmmm, Grizzly Hut. That could be anywhere. Someone hauls your gear. Definitely that is done in the Methow valley of Northern Washington.
I am curious, if you had a ski mobile bringing up and down the supplies, why not have them carry your backpack so it will be easier skiing?
Miranda replied to a couple similar questions earlier: "I carried some snacks and water, plus the ten essentials. My pack was big enough to hold most of what we needed for the short ski trip, and everything else went on the snowmobile. - Miranda"
Randa panda! 👋
In my limited experience this is a realistic portrayal of the joys and frustrations that you may encounter learning to x-country ski. Take notes and enjoy.
No gaiters? 🐊
Edit: also jealy that you don’t get underboob sweat. Lol
No Seriously, underboob sweat is harder to manage than all other TMI topics
the hanging bits of men's anatomy can relate? also: just bough a set of gaiters for dirt trails and avoiding small rocks on my socks and shoe set up. might help with ticks. day trip, rocks in your shoes, no biggie. day one of 3 rocks in your shoes is really a bad time.
More like boss country!
"Like a Cate Bear" was probably the best line. Thanks for the fun and educational video.
how cold was the trip and how warm was the hut ?
What sunglasses do you have on?
HAPPY WOMEN'S DAY MAY GOD BLESS YOU DEAR😍😙👍
Hey miranda so how about an ebike video ? Thanks!
Great video Miranda, cross country skiing can be real fun and not near as busy as ski slopes. But, it can be a lot of work, using muscles you usually don't use. I did take a cross country class and steep up hill's climbs are really challenging. I am beginning to wonder about this "poop" thing though, you seem to be obsessed, but I am trusting it's not a fetish. Anyway looks like you had fun except form the blister.
Looks like Vermont
One nights food and a sleeping bag the rest is provided, what is all that extra stuff you had brought in the snowmobile?
D000000000d those views 😍
What sweater are you wearing?
Would love to cross country ski but Scotland does not produce enough snow😂
Snow blindness is a real risk, even on cloudy days, Protect your retinas when skiing !
Yes so true!
@@rei Get some Classic Nordic ski lessons. You are not skiing efficiently at all .Keep your Knees and nose over toes and throw your body forwards and glide on each foot for as long as you can. Your weight transfer is not optimal from foot to foot. Bend your knees a lot more. You need to slouch more like insolent stoned teenager because you are too upright when XC skiing.
Skate skiing next? It’s soooo fun! (I’m an instructor btw)
12:35 + you kind of remind me of Princess Leigha on the planet with the tiny wookies, ewoks?
What was all that stuff on the snowmobile? Just throw your backpack up on there maybe?
Wheeeeeee
Where was this filmed?
People looking cooler than you is the worst. Imposter syndrome in the outdoors is a tough one!
