In regards to the GR-Four AWD system, it does not use a wet multiplate clutch pack found in many of its rivals. It uses a electo magnetic multiplate clutch pack to control the awd slippage and lock. This system is a zero friction clutch and no amount of slippage will induce wear. Unlike some other trick awd systems like the focus RS which did use a wet multiplate clutch to moderate the torque bias. That system did generate a decent amount of heat from slippage.
Great Review! I've had mine for almost three months, and I agree with almost all your descriptions and insights. It's totally weird, a bit rough here and there, and totally delightful. Oh, and the handling is mind-boggling. It's capable of remarkable speeds on challenging roads.
Having spent years in WRX STi Hatchback, the GR Corolla for me was the next iteration of that idea for rme. I LOVE mine! Even did my own review on it and currently sitting at about 8500 miles... I couldn't ask for a better experience. Even having driven FL5 CTRs and Elantra N's, all good cars in their own right, there is something intangible about the GRC that talked to me and I' m sure many other owners. Even with some interior areas that could use some better materials (I'm tackling that on mine as we speak), and a few rougher edges compared to competitors like the Civic Type-R that have multiple iterations in the US... the experience is amazing.
I've owned WRXs for 21 years. Sold my last one after my GR purchase in Feb. My two major gripes are no armrest or spare tire. Thankfully both issues can be remedied. Man 8500 miles, you have been doing some driving. Make that enjoying.
Heres the real how to make it better. 1. Buy it in black ⚫️ premium package* 2. Add the rear CE spoiler and hood. 3. Add the Eventury intake (decreses intake temp by 20f!) 4. Add the pilot spot cups tires from the Morizzo eddition. 5. If you live in a warm climate weather like me chage the engine oil every 3k miles OR LESS regardless of what the manufacturer or UA-cam tells you****. 6. Use protective film for the front bumper and hood to avoid rock chips. There you're welcome and enjoy 😉
You got a couple of things right. Subjective, but black is the worst color offered IMO. And def don’t need more grip then those pilot sport 4s……..unless you’re tracking it. I’d go as far to say, for street use…..less grip would make it much more playful/fun.
Love my car. In Hawaii, there are a lot of Toyota fans. Fun when they recognize my GR Corolla. Easy to drive, handles so well and love that there's no sneaking home because it announces its' arrival a couple blocks from home.
Great review, especially on the technical info on the drive train. Only downside is the big movie screen in the middle, think I'll stick with my 2001 Corolla, much nicer interior.
The price puts it in Subaru WRX Limited range, with a far superior AWD system for winter weather. Also have fun with the wait times for anything from Toyota they are moving away from dealers.
I sorta tilted my head in confusion when you mentioned a stiffer feel on the clutch pedal. Coming from owning a VA WRX and a 6mt Tacoma it felt really light to me when I drove it. Yes trucks tend to have heavier pedals but man, the VA WRX pedal is stupid heavy for a stock application! My wife had a hard time driving that car because of how heavy the pedal was. I almost stalled the GRC when I test drove it not because I suck at driving but because it was so much lighter than any of the vehicles I’ve owned before I started to let it out too quickly. The GRC is definitely on my list of next vehicles to own. I want back into another V8 car but also miss my AWD car too. Driving the GRC made me feel like I was back in my WRX and made me love it even more
I test drove this after driving my 2022 Elantra N manual transmission. The GR Corolla clutch is heavy, a bit springy and the engagement point is high (roughly 85% of the clutch travel) compared to my Elantra N which is in the middle of the travel. This can make the Corolla fatiguing and hard to drive smoothly. The pedals are not properly spaced for heel-toe downshifting. The interior looks like a rental car. I do like the notchy engaging shifter. The gearing is short which requires shifting more often compared to the Elantra N. The visibility while driving is great.
As a GR owner I do wish that Toyota would have gotten some color in the interior. Hyundai N cars were on my short list. Likely would have bought a Kona N if it came with a manual. Did drive one, stiffest suspension of any car I've ever driven. Not sure what level it was set on, my guess is N mode. I'm glad that there are some good choices now
I drove one of these a couple weeks ago. I never thought I would drive a car more fun than my Fiesta ST, I was wrong. I got to test drive it alone. The dealer had a core version that was a Toyota rep. car with 4500 miles. He just handed me the keys, and said have fun. I did.
This interior definitely pails in comparison to my Elantra N. Materials aren't great in either, but the N seats have leather and alcantara, there's way more room in the back seats and trunk, and more flair throughout. Screen's bigger, the center tunnel is easier to access and use.
A lack luster interior, or a Pontiac Aztec level of exterior “design”. Seeing the vision concept makes me even more upset, knowing they can make a cool design…..hoping that translates to more of there cars and not the trapezoid thing they’ve been doing.
I haven't heard anyone say something about the lack of an armrest, how does it feel not having one, as I am one of those people that is guilty of laying my arm on am armrest while I drive
Our Toyota dealer didn't do a markup. But we (about 100) of us had to put out names in a lottery. Did it twice and we got the second one. Our dealer thought it might be the more fair for all interested customers.
Used core trims without the performance/tech/cold package are being sold for 45-50k. Dealers are smoking something strong to ask that, but people paying that are smoking something stronger.
5k over MSRSP. No thanks. Millinials are nuts. Will get one used! Does the 74 inch width become annoying? It's almost a medium size car at this width. Wish this had an automatic like all the German sports cars. Happy with my Volvo V50 for now and would recommend this used for people who like this car but want to pay a quarter the price.
@@AlaskanSnowLeopard the young man also had the option to not buy 🎉 dealerships will continue to charge markup as long as consumers hand over the cash
Too bad the 2025 gr corolla gives you an automatic transmission. I don't think it will draw too much attention, people who drive this car might have been in the same category or the type r drivers. No automatic.
Still absolutely LOVE mine.
Me, too. 5000 miles in and loving it more every time I fire it up.

Which Gr version did you get?@@stevethomas760
It feels like a modern Toyota STi/Evo, I’d agree with the ratings on the car. The mid-level interior disappears when you grab the wheel/shifter.
Great well explained technical review, I've watched a ton of them, but I still learned something here.

Black is difficult to maintain clean. No thanks 👎
@@lamesamelame But it looks awsome when clean ;)
So glad the GRC is being received so well. Love the look of it, should of came here too 🇬🇧, but I do love my GR Yaris circuit pack.

The only and last review that made me convince to get the Core! Thanks
Thanks bud! Glad I can help. Best of luck!
You’re dialogue is excellent. You’ve got a new follower!
Keep up the great reviews.
Stoked for GRC to arrive late next month.
Thank you! Good luck with the GRC!
It reminds me so much of my OLD 1987 FX-16 COROLLA That car was amazing after I did my Engine Rebuild from buying it used...
One of the best reviews I've seen on this car and I've seen a lot. Thanks for the solid work
Still loving my gr corolla. Best car I’ve ever owned

6 months later i still love mine. The core is pretty much a LE corolla interior with GR Sport Seats(a legit trim from outside of North Americas)
WE LOVE TOYOTA I HAD A 1994 4x4 TOYOTA PICK UP TRUCK - NOW IN 2024- TIME TO COME BACK TO TOYOTA IN THERE GR COROLLA- MANUAL TRANS I WANT.

Hey guys, don't pay Mark up for the core. But with how limited the CE and ME are maybe it could be a good investment to pay done mark up.
It would be better if I actually could fucking buy one 🙄
Should have been a 4 cylinder 2.0 liter turbo engine. No temp tire....Not sure if it will work for me...
Intelligent review. Thank you for not wearing a baseball hat
Smiles per Gallon if you can get one do it! Great daily I got a circuit at msrp and feel like I won the lottery best car I've owned!
At 14:10 The infotainment screen looks like a plastic toy from Walmart. Hideous.
Incorrect on the awd system. Its not a wet multiplate clutch. It uses electromagnets. No wear or friction points.
I haven't heard anyone say something about the lack of an armrest, how does it feel not having one, as I am one of those people that is guilty of laying my arm on am armrest while I drive
I've seen a lot of people using an aftermarket SXTH element armrest as a solution
Plus the storage. I have a SXTH Element armrest, no install yet. No spare tire, thank goodness that can be remedied too.
I hope so[me day soon I could get my self a GR Corolla!!!
You sound very unsatisfied
Must be difficult to be happy driving one of the worlds best new hot hatches
Dude, where the hell do you get your MSRP at everywhere I go has a marked up. Smh
gotta get on a list and wait it out mine was in the works 3+ years ago before my local dealer knew what I was talking about 🤣 worth every penny IMO 🤌😤

Hope that weird 4x4 never breaks because you’re gonna left an arm and leg in that dealership to get it back
As a owner of this car that front cup holder is a bad position. Any cup bigger than a typical water bottle is too big and gets in the way of sniffing
Hold up
What are you trying to smell?
Start just under $36k, but my local Toyota dealership sold a white Corolla GR Core for over $50k to a young man.
No money and brain 🤯
@mengx94 You meant money but no brain? The young man finances it, so he technically didn't have the money.
@@AlaskanSnowLeopard the young man also had the option to not buy 🎉 dealerships will continue to charge markup as long as consumers hand over the cash
It's already at MSRP due to so many choices nowadays
What a loser lol
9:06 4 strokes not 4 revolutions 🤓
A 300hp 3 cylinder engine is great but how long will it last? Lucky to get 100 thousand miles is my guess. But who cares its so cool!
Do these only come in manual?
Yup!
