This was the song back in the 70's that made me want to pick up a guitar and rock and roll what a profound loss to the rock and roll world. One of the best guitar players the world has ever seen R.I.P. my friend.
The R&R HOF is a joke anyway. It's supposed to be Rock n Roll but Dolly Parton and Willy Nelson are in there - but not Alvin Lee, Gary Moore or Rory Gallagher, or Nightwish, or Joe Bonamassa and more real musicians.
I have some old Albums of Ten Years After from the late 60s and saw him at the Hollywood Palladium in 1973. It was standing room only. Best concert i went to. =)
I saw him in twice in Atlanta in the 1970s and then again on the 1989 20th Anniversary Woodstock tour. He was great and has always been one of my favorite guitarist. Alvin had such a great joy for playing and performing. The last time in 1989 was in a smaller venue, probably around 3,000 seats. The place was packed and that was probably my favorite show.
Rock N Roll no longer belongs to the youth. It now.. and has... belonged to the young at heart for quite sometime. Thats the eternal beuty of it. LET THERE BE ROCK!
Choo Choo Mama worked so well on a few levels. It was a great rock and roll showcase for the lightning speed fingers of Alvin Lee on one hand, but it also evoked an image of a runaway train racing down the track as well, especially in the TYA versions of the song. It was just a great song. Alvin Lee was able to take even a simple old school rock and roll riff or idea, and make it incredibly complex in it's execution. That's why he was such a great guitar talent as well as a very good singer.
I read an old paperback in the 90s that said jimmy page threw soda on Alvin Lee while he was playing because he was jealous and screwed up his fingering , has anyone heard that one ?
This chugs along nicely, but could never replace the original TYA.Still don't know why they couldn't get it together again.Couldn't have been "musical differences". Anyways...it doesn't antimatter now.......Bye Alvin.....it has been good.
somone check this out. ... heard he blew the big band. yes.... off the stage at the albert hall. i was told by a yes member just recently. they were the backing group. early eighties i think. seen them live at newcastle city hall later. great peformance. sell out. alvin was up with the best guitarists at the time.
Nope - ich you want to give rock(, as well as rock&roll) an other Name - YOU WOULD CALL IT ALVIN LEE. He taught the world, how to Play&sing rock&roll Music....ALVIN LEE completely changed my mind....
saw alvin lee and ten years later in Germany 1978 twice, went home wanting to play the guitar, today I can tear up the fretboard. thankyou for the influence.
Alvin Lee with Nine Below Zero ( Dennis Greaves - guitar / Alan Glen - harmonica / Gerry McAvoy - bass / Brendan O'Neill - drums - California 1994 - SOLID-SENDING !!
Always listened to "Goin' home". Had no idea they did this too? What a dumbass I've been the last 30 years!!! What an awesome song, cant stop listening to it, excellent cruisin' song for the summer drivin'!! Love the rich sound of the guiter Alvin plays.
I wanna know..why in the hell isn't this great guitarist..performer..isn't in the so called anymore..R&R H O F..it's a disgrace to all the Alvin Lee fans..seen him in the 70's..went by..Alvin Lee & CO..Great Concert!!
Alvin Lee played hundreds of dates in the U.S. How could you have missed him? Too bad, so sad if you missed him. He was fantastic in the all wood structure, Auditorium Theatre in Chicago, 1974. The best, EVER.
Saw Alvin Lee down in Deep Ellum Dallas Texas in 96 he was in a group with Eric Burdon Dunbar and some others they were calling it The Best of the British Blues he was wearing these tennis shoes that look like they were made out of red metal and he signed this poster I had from the cricklewood green album probably their third or fourth album
YES T'EN YEARS AFTER IS A BEST POP GROUP IN THE 1970 +_ YEARS WITH MENBERS ORIGINALS . ....BROTHERS LEE , FOREVER ALVIN R . I. P . . . .. ONE FAN FRENCH OLDIES AND TALENTUEUX GROUPS.JACKYFAN 👍
Alvin vs. Jimmy Page? Ithink the numbers speak for themselves . Imagination and taste goes to Jimmy..Energy and the ability to play and sing, Big Al! I still get chills watchin' "i'm goin' home" from Woodstock, can't say much for "Houses of the Holy" flick. Jimmy in the studio? Untouchable..Alvin live? Equally inspiring, almost. Who have YOU listened to more? There you go! Jimmy by a G-string !

Lee and Rory Gallagher are the best.
Just a correction on this event...it was John Bonham who threw OJ on Alvin as he was playing...made a sticky mess obviously.

Man could Rock n Roll a guitar.
Now we know where George Thorogood stole his style from...
At 1:11, what feature does a guitar have that lets you play notes on multiple strings without plucking them? Pardon my ignorance.
Still miss him!
