Been waiting for someone, anyone, to do a reaction to TDH Acts for years and it's awesome that you two are doing it!!! I got hooked on these guys when I first heard City Escape in like 2002 or 03 (whenever it came out) and impatiently anticipated every new Act as they came out over the years. Super glad you two are enjoying it and trust me, it gets better and better as they age as musicians. If you're mind is blown now, I can't wait until you hear Acts IV and V. If you stick with it till the end TDH will be on your Mt Rushmore of best bands ever. PS - I gave up on understanding the story. The music itself carries enough weight.

Woweeee! After spending time with the lyrics and following certain phrases on a hunt for a deeper meaning I am sooo curious where this will end up! perhaps bible, cult, matriarchal succession, ect. blowing my mind!!!
My favorite band… ever. Just absolute brilliance every single time. I make my own Lofi music and I’ve started hiding TDH Easter eggs in them now just to put more of it out into the world haha
Its so fun to see you guys experience this for the first time. Act II is a truly special piece of music, and an incredible work of art. This album means so much to so many of us here watching you. Seriously, its a joy to see two new fans be made.
We’re really happy that everyone seems to be enjoying our journey into the acts. It’s been such a great time doing this. Kinda sad we only got 1 more to go- although, we’ll keep going with reactions to TDH after that. We’ve had lots of folks suggest Antimai and The Color Spectrum. We’ll def get into those when we’ve wrapped up all the acts.
I am thoroughly enjoying this adventure with The Dear Hunter, even the research behind the lyrics has opened my mind to thoughts I haven't had in a long time, definitely a fan
Yeah this album took them straight to the stratosphere. The crazy thing is they just kept getting better with each album, couldn't believe what we were listening to.
I read somewhere that Casey wrote some of the songs on this album before he wrote Act I. Not sure if that’s true, but I’m already completely blown away. This is whole endeavor is incredible. Can’t wait for more
@@secondhandreactions You will hear lots of callbacks as the albums move forward, hell there were already callbacks to Act 1. He had this story in the works for quite some time.

Hunter finds his mother mortally wounded and seeks revenge. He is armed with a vengeful decree to avenge his mother’s death and end the life of the person responsible. “One life for another” has a double meaning here. In his mother’s life ending, he’s finally allowed to start his own life in the bigger world, but also taking “an eye for an eye”. He plans to leave his home, finally going beyond the tree by the lake and go into the city by train. Nailed The Lake and the River with the chain gang chants. On the train we hear from the Oracles. Much like in a Greek play, the Oracles act as the story's narrator. As fortune tellers, they warn Hunter of what will happen if he continues he journey on the train to the city. In the city, people are going about their day. Hunter has never seen so many people. We then hear of the villain in the story. In the Lyrics we hear of a man with a “Twin mask” and call backs to Act 1’s The Pimp and The Priest. The Pimp and Priest are the same person, but the pimp hides his identity wearing a mask. Essentially The Priest here wishes to allow his flock to “fold” to moral decay dealt out by his other Persona The Pimp. To the benefit of both personas, this starts a cycle of paying a penance for your sins knowing full well you will return to The Dime the following night. This is the world that Hunter is missing out on and he is about to be caught up in its vicious cycle. Biter Suite switches perspectives several times throughout like a theatrical play switching from one end of the stage to the other, but is pretty straightforward plot driven as it certainly is not lacking in flamboyant imagery and descriptions. Think of a Cowboy Western movie with the first time we enter a brothel, but imaging doing so as a young boy who just saw a beautiful woman for the first time. She is a professional charmer really living up to her name, Ms. Leading. "Where's her heart mimicking the matriarch" is a warning by the Oracles with different vocals that she is employed to seduce, but he is naive. The lyrics here do an amazing job in capturing The Boy’s wide-eyed enchantment at this woman and The Dime. It is unlike anything he’s seen before. This is the first time he has known what desire is. He is overwhelmed and takes in the entire scene. "Hey Kid get a job will be how the pimp manipulates people to work for him paying off debt and will be a reoccurring lyric. Then Ms. Leading takes Hunter to the room and does the deed. Love the long instrumental outro section as a moment to breathe as Hunter and Ms Leading are doing the deed. But let’s be honest here for a second. Given Hunter’s experience with women, no way this lasts as long as this instrumental section takes place. :D

The only difference really is that I pictured the boy’s mother committing suicide. I’ll go into why when we have our end act II conversation, but I think there’s a clue in one of the lyrics. Also… I could be totally wrong about that. It’s amazing to me how well this is written. Mind blowing that it was done by someone so young. ✌️
