Finally a video that uses the tools and explains how to use them instead of making a cube and just unfolding it
My professors spend hours and days teaching us UV, now you just taught me how to UV in 20 minutes. I can't believe this.
Glad my video helped makes things click for you Loran.
you explained something in 23 minutes what our lecturer at college couldn't for 6 months. great video, nice explained, keep up the great work would love to see your channel growing!
LOL. Trust me, I understand your pain. Glad you enjoyed it and it clicked for you.
Some people have a teaching gift. And, this guy gives some of this gift out for free.
I got real “Have you or a loved one been harmed by UV’s in maya? Well if so you may be entitled to compensation.” vibes in the beginning of the video
This will be my new official statement on all upcoming UV videos. 😂
It's insane how well everything in this video was explained. Definitely subscribing to your channel.
thank you for this video! my 3D studio professor isn't handling online classes well and i've been really stressed with the amount of stuff i have to learn on my own! this video was truly helpful to me as a student :')
Hey JL Mussi, been following your channel for a while. Great tips and workflow improvements in neat and thorough videos. Keep up the good work man!
Much appreciated! Glad you are enjoying the videos.
@@jlmussi Hey JL Mussi. Do you UV map before or after you smooth mesh?
The best 3D youtuber, with the best energy and the best explanations. Thank you for all your work!
Thank you! Never seen unitized covered before. Learning that will save me hours of work straightening and tidying up UVs; am now subscribed for that alone.
I'm always learning new stuff in Maya as well. Welcome aboard!
Turns out I was detaching the wrong thing. It worked beautifully thank you JL.
I love the blooper part. So real!
UVs has been my biggest issue for the longest time. Every UV tutorial I've seen doesn't compare. This was pretty comprehensive and solved a lot of the seam issues i've had before. It got to the point where I became content with Automatic UVs, but now I feel a bit more confident in layouts.
BROOOOOOOO KEEP IT UP I'm following everything right here. Comprehensive tutorial than the others.
Thanks Mike! Glad you're digging the content.
Thank you so much for this helpful tutorial!! I never really understood UV Mapping but now I get what to look out for when doing UVs! :D
UVs can be tricky, especially when starting out. Glad I could help.
actually was a really good video, I've used straighten UV's a lot and pulled my hair out manually doing these, I like this workflow it's a lot faster and does the work for me
Awesome explanation, especially for beginners like myself, thank you.
Thank u very much indeed! Finally, I can texture my models properly in SP :D
God damn my man... those are some beautiful UVs.
Cheers for the tutorial. Massive help!
I understand the UV method much better now. You're an amazing brother!
You are the best freaking uv mapper in the universe...you are the thanos of uv mapping...
You need to do some videos with me. We can be like the Hodge Twins only not as charismatic. 😂
Makes sense, when I get mad at maya usually that's when half of my UVs dissapear.
learnt about the middle mouse click :D time saver!!
Great lessons mate. Thank you.
Thank you, Mussi. This great video helped me out.
Thank you for useful stuff!
among the two or three best Maya channels out there that are still active and delivers .
Pls more UV advanced tutorials. Maya really lacks these
Its a shame Maya isnt as popular as 3ds max or Blender when comes to UV cause its UV tools and algorithms and probbaly the most refined and versatile out there in a 3d general packgage, speaking as a the default built in tools.
Noted. I will do more UV breakdowns in the future.
Nice vid! helps me a lot
Wow, thanks a bunch!!
Thanks. Your skill is great!
Good teacher and nice lesson! Help a lot!
excellent video man. the unitize trick will come in handy. Straighten UVs works only 1% of the time for me. nice trick with the baking seams as well
Thanks Kide, yea that Straighten UVs tool has a mind of its own. Detach Components is super handy!
Oh Boy!. Those first three questions were on point.🤣🤣 Awesone videos as always
Awesome video man. Could you do a tutorial on UV mapping much more advanced objects like a tree or dinosaur, something organic that doesnt have simple shapes?
Bro you are the man! Thank you so much!
Man outtakes at the end of a goddamn UV tutorial. Amazing
Thanks for sticking with me to the very end 🤣
These videos give me life
Now I gotta think twice about deleting a video, I could never take a life. :-)
thank you 😍
Man i love you
THANK YOU!!! Awesome tutorial. As a side note, I thought I was the only one having issues with the "Straighten UV" tool. LOL!!! Even on the Autodesk Maya forums they won't admit anything is wrong with that tool!! Do you ever use PINNING? I know some of the old timers use it but I haven't the foggiest idea how or why it's better.
i always use blender for uv unwrapping always works well
Great video - even though we have all these neat tools and seems aren't an issue, I still hide the seems
awsome video bro nice explaination plz make more unraping videos like complex shape unraping uving
Glad you enjoyed. I will plan to make another UV in the future.
Hey JL Mussi I love this tutorial you have helped so much. but I have noticed when you delete the "old mesh with detached parts", the UVs reset. when I send the meshes to another software such as Substance Painter will it use the clean UVs or the old.
Hey man, i suggest you to upload a raw file of the model, so that the people can practice it with the same model as you, and would know what to do if something goes wrong
and also damn what a great tutorial, i really hated uving before, usually i would just shove the material like arnold material and just rendered it without bothering with the uv, but now i really interested in learning more because of you
Thank you for the great tutorial! subscribed!
Thanks for your amazing tutorial!! It really helps me a lot!!! However I faced an issue, every time I layout my UV, it always messes up the texel density, how can I fix that?
When you finished the UV's, somewhere in the end, should the squares not be equal size?
Hi @JLMussi, first of all, thank you for all your time and effort to create these really nice tutorials. I would like to ask you if I am supposed to get any distortion with this method. Because I am trying to unwrap an oxygen tank but no matter what I do, it will always have distortion. Is it possible that you will be able to have a look?
Great sir
Thanks Mohamed, glad you enjoyed it.
Can you use a regular cylindrical projection and adjust by hand, instead the unitize?
hey man i just wanna ask while I was modeling when I clicked uv editor all my uv shell are transparent? idk what happened. but I can still select the shells but the rest are still transparent unless you move your cursor to highlight the shell. thank you man!
That give me good idea.
Great tutorial fam, really broke it down! i got stuck on the uv cut/sew tool though, for some reason the "show uv cell coloring" option is greyed out? I'm on Maya 2020 though.. maybe that's it :/
I died laughing at the end 🤣🤣
cool
great
Hey Mussi, can you help me with the problem, that i just can't check the box für 'show uv shell coloring' pleeeeeaaaaaasseeeeee! :)
Does this "unitize and stitch together" method work all the time? If not all the time, then let's say in most cases?
Is there a follow up video to learn how to export the UV and create the textures?
Hello! Nice video, you made me understand a lot of stuff I just couldn't connect with. But I still struggle with something most people seem to idk...know it since birth or smth, and it is the cuts, WHERE TO DO THE CUTS? I struggle with that a lot and I see nobody talking about it, how do you know where to actually do a cut? And I am not talking about a cylinder or a cube, but for more complex shapes where I really don't know wtf I have to do :(
best intro ever XD
Layout uv's options in maya 2022 is different from 2018
What I can do?
Ps. Sorry for English)
uahuu!! We have a professor!! (TO EXPLAIN)
How to increase the selection? What is its shortcut key?
Show uv shell coloring not ticking...... Please help
Hi man. You very often do increase selection after you highlighted a face loop. What is the shortcut / button for the increase selection ?
shift + < or >
how to hide in maya ? There is some shourtcut ?
luar biasa?ok juga
Watching
doesn't work when I click on GET, texel density is much larger
Hi, first of all thank you so much for your tutorials, Maya can be really confusing sometimes and you are great at teaching it. But I'm having a problem with this method of doing UVs. (actually, I have a problem with all UV methods :P).
I'm using a model "similar" to this one, it's supposed to be a wooden barrel, and after I unitize when I move and sow it sows it in a way that it becomes distorted. It looks like it ignores the cut I've made on the side and makes a weird donut shape. Do you know what I might be doing wrong or if it's some bug? I tried following your steps multiple times and I just can't make it right.
Off the top off my head and assuming you get the uv shell of the sides of the barell in a square or rectangular shape...try unfolding only in the U or the V.
Ok if anyone is interested my problem was I didn't Freeze transformations nor deleted the history before I started doing the UVs.
where can i get that can?
you'd be my favorite if you weren't a cowboys fan, Fly Eagles Fly! great tuts!
I swear if I ever come across a large some of money I will rid uv from a production line
The video is great! Really clean and simple explained. The only thing was bothering me is bottom right part of screen with microphone stand (puu.sh/GOJ0c/a082520429.jpg) I could't help myself thinking the stand goes inside that little wooden table handle on the background.
Immediate subscribed... called me a 3D modeling beast 😢
jl so approach_microphine. so noise. but i like u tuto and detail and exciting // love it chhannel
at 4:34 what did you press to select the looped faces?
to do a loop selection, you select one vert, edge or face, then hold shift and double click an adjacent one in the direction you want to loop. it will stop at tris.
@@cglancer yes, but what is the shortcut/hot key to do it?
And how to turn off color ?
This uv shit is blowing me I did I right one time after that I can’t do a simple , once I get to planar, change axis and project ...it all goes wrong I then can’t move each piece separate they all stuck together and move together once I click off of it then click back Idk what(clump of nasty ness)
when i click "move and sew" everything goes to shit
Bor can you make pass of this.
Sexual density huh xD
Gotta love these subtitles
UV MAPAS WAS 1000 YERAS BACK
ngl, lost me with all the tools during the straightening out of the can. My brain just does not get all of the technical things...
Hi JL MUSSI ......tha ks for your classes it is really helping, recently i have been trying to uv the can but any time I get to the utilize part where i utilize the can it give's me serious distortion
Nice tutorial man but your can videos keep on skipping some vital parts not so good for absolute begginers
lusuku*** kirukku KU*** oTHA BHA**
As a beginner, can I say too much fella. It started out ok, but then you just start thundering through command selections as if we are all experts. The only chance you have is to go frame by frame and no-one wants to be doing that. If you want to make videos for beginners you are going to have to drop a few gears and never assume that people know what you are doing. I'm not going to dislike the video as it is all great, but you just got into your groove and forgot all us, idiots, trying to figure out what to do at each step. Maybe include a download of the can and an image to fit onto it. That way we can mirror what you are doing to help it all sink in.
why dont you use cylindircal mapping to do side's UV, your workaround is really unnecessary
R
This is not for beginners at all
I really appreciate the time that goes into these tutorials but this guy's way of constantly using random words to describe things makes it reeeaaally hard to follow.
Not to mention vaguely describing really important ideas, like texel density, seven minutes into the video.
I get people are doing a service by producing these vids but why's it so hard to find tutorials that properly explain the ideas, instead of just saying 'click this, and then this, and then this'?
Too much talk...better to get to the instructions rather than the confusing talk and demos of un-needed info.
it was helpful! Thank you!
