After a motocycle accident,I was in a deep, deep coma for over three months.Doctors said I was Brain dead, yes there is live on the other side.I have being there and back, making a wonderful recovery.Even if it took me twenty years. Thanks for this wonderful music, giving me strength when I needed it most.
Whitesnake, Aerosmith, Poison, Quireboyz and Thunder. I went mainly for Whitesnake and Aerosmith but had never seen any of the bands in the lineup. All were great, however I found Aerosmith who were one of my favourite bands at the time, quite disappointing apart from where guitarist Adrian Vandenberg did a solo that blew Steve Vai's solo off the stage. Thunder were mind blowing, the passion that the lads put into their music gave me chills, and has done ever since. Definitely one of the best days of my life during my Royal Air Force service. Thunder were the best by far that day and repeated it yet again in 1992. Just wish I could transport back into the crowd on that wonderful summer's day 🤘🤘🤘
One of the greatest vocalists. Ian Gillan is immense. Danny is almost there. That’s not a slight-Ian is another level to almost all singers of every genre. Danny and Luke and the whole band are awesome. So proud to see them many times. Thunder, Little Angels - Toby another totally immerse talent - thank you.
If it was Donington I was there!!..Thunder are still are amazing..this song gets me everytime ...the words kill my heart with the trail off lost loves..when you fall outta love with someone..Where does the love go??
I was at this festival, as I remember it thunder were first band on and the absolutely nailed it ,best band of the day and Aerosmith and whitesnake headlined ,what a day !!!?
I put Freddie Mercury in a category of his own but Danny is my idol. The best rock singer this country's ever produced, and don't anyone bring up Paul Rodgers. Now that's an overrated singer!
+simonleeg37 Great voice and great band, I have nothing but the highest praise for everything about Thunder having seen them live on a couple of occasions. Realistically though Danny isn't the greatest singer ever although I rate him very highly indeed
Absolutely a wonderful voice (very sexy), great music, and of course you don't offend anyone by stating Danny Bowes is highly underrated, because he is. But he is not by far the best singer that has ever sung. (certainly not nowadays, his voice is much less rough, which used to make it so special). Nevertheless, great band!
Loved Thunder when I first heard them in 1990. I was the manager of Music Express, a music store leasing space from Montgomery Wards, at Wheaton Plaza, in Maryland. We were sent one copy of Backstreet Symphony. Id never heard of this band but I liked the cover, so instead of putting it on the shelf to sell, I opened it up and played it in the store. I loved it and so did the customers. I had to order many copies for customers who were lucky enough to be in the store while it played, and I ordered a few dozen on top of the customer orders, because I planned on playing it a lot. I played this cd so much, and pretty much every time I played it, we sold out of copies, or customers asked that I order one for them.
Was at this and I can tell u now they blew us all away, it was the return to donington park in 1990 after the tragic deaths of 2 fans in 1988 of 2 young guys during the Guns and roses set, white snake were headlining with Aerosmith supporting, and from memory poison can’t remember who else but these guys were amazing, went on to see them quite a few times after, great voice, great band 👍
Whitesnake, Aerosmith, Quireboyz, Poison and Thunder. Thunder were the best all day by far, the first time I saw them. Then again in 1992, where they blew away most again. Happy days 🤘
I love this band! I saw them supporting various bands and always blew them off the stage. For me they're the finest Rock Band to come out of England in the 90's. I always get goose bumps when I hear them. WHAT A VOICE!!
cant remember how many times ive seen these boys play, must be double figures , met the original line up at sheffield back stage in the early days, still kick ass, stole the show at 2011 high voltage. keep on rockin'
seen them about 10 times saw them at the carlile sands centre in the nineties luck enough to get back stage met all of them drinks and tee shirts singed fucking brilliant im 50 now still forlowing them
Such a fantastic band, I saw them many times, and met Harry, Danny, and Luke in 1985 when they were in Terraplane. They were down to earth, and funny. They pulled some of the promotion stuff off the wall, and signed it for me.
'Saw' them first in 95, supporting Bon Jovi. Tucked away in the back, couldn't see the stage or anybody on it but djeez could I HEAR this fella!! Loved them at first sound! Been a fan since
First hooked in to Thunder in 1989 pre the release of Backstreet Symphony. Saw them live locally and have now seen them 7 or 8 times over the years. Every time I have they sounded so great. Always put on a great show. Danny Bowes is definitely one of the most under-rated singers both in the Uk and globally. He still hits those notes today...fantastic! I was trying to think the other day who it was that really inspired me to want to play guitar. I have many favourite players and bands. Def Leppard and Steve Clark were definite influences, as were Maiden (Adrian Smith) and Black Sabbath (Tony Iommi). But Luke Morley and that white Les Paul Custom, iconic guitar and another under-rated player. Hopefully 2021 will kick on and we can get to see them live again \w/
Hi. Thunder are one of my favourite bands of all time and I have been there supporting them from Day 1. I've seen then live so many times and when they did a residency at the Marquee Club when it used to be in Wardour Street, London, I went every night. They are fantastic musicians and songwriters and I think Danny has such an amazing voice. In my opinion, they never got the recogition that they deserved!!!
Their songs have such staying quality, 20+ years since Backstreet Symphony and they still give me chills. I've never had the pleasure of seeing them live, but man do they bring it in this vid. Danny has the best blues-y rock voice around, he sounds just like the album (without all that real-time autotune cr*p that most singers rely on these days). Simply amazing.
This song and performance just defies belief.Absolutely stunning from Danny on v and Luke on the guitar can you wring any more emotion out of this! One of the greatest love songs ever written and when it's not a happy ending that just adds to it
I went to see Thunder, Whitesnake and Def Leppard at Nottingham Arena around 2015, all of 'em were mega but Danny Bowes, crikey that lad can sing. Ode lasses chucking undies at Davo was brilliant, one of me all time concerts that. I think this is Donington '92, I was there and got drenched, all bands were good.
Bills wife posting: My daughter had her first slow dance with her father to this song when she was 9. (1991) Fitting considering he was always walking in and out of her life. It became "their" song. She and I have been listening to Thunder ever sense. Love them!
Brilliant, brilliant, brilliant! Fell in love with Thunder's music at this point and still can't stop listening to them, in 2018!! In fact, their two latest albums are off the charts: Wonder Days and Rip It Up. :-)
Seen this band 30+ times over the yrs but this was the 1st, also my 1st Donnington! 89 dont count cus we sat on top of a ship outside and watched it because we couldn't afford tickets!! just been to download (never missed a year) and Metallica were amazing!1 but you know what they say "you never forget your first!!!!
I was there and they were amazing they blew all the other bands out of the water - best band there that year - I am so glad i discovered them years and years ago - they have made my life soooo good - they are in my top three LOVE YOU DANNY x
Was there also and I agree best band of the day ,for first band on they killed it ,all other bands that day had to step up their game ,but to me they didn't THUNDER stole the day
It's amazing how great they sound live! I just watched a live video of the same song, but it was only from a few years back & they sound fantastic, especially the singer. These guys were very underrated, especially in the US.
Massive fan and was delighted to meet the band twice. Extraodinarily underrated. Danny actually made a video to congratulate me on my wedding day. Absolute heroes, and I can't wait to see them live again sooner rather than later.
donington 1990 i went to see aerosmith and this happened wow followed this band to the end wish they would have a re union i dont like lukes new band the union we need to hear danny singing forever
Aerosmith are FAR superior to thunder - if you disagree with that you are totally delusional and an underdog lover. There is a reason one band were hugely successful and the other just a run of the mill 80s band who only deserved the success they attained
+David Balfour i wouldnt go as far as saying far superior, arosmith got a break by moving on to more "rock pop" that suited more of the public where as thunder stuck to what the fans liked good old british rock music, my opinion both bands are great but i think danny has the edge on steve where the voice is concerned ...just my opinion
I was there, they blew everyone away. Thunder: the band that were always on the brink of taking over the world... and I'm told the first band to open Donington and not get bottled. Respect!
I discovered Thunder at Donington just about 3 months ago. I have watched the 3 songs on here every single day since. I have became a huge fan of this band. I was stationed in England in the US Air Force and attended the 84 Monsters of Rock. This is probably the best live song by a singer I can recall. Can anyone tell me if there is a complete show DVD available of this set? Thanks in advance. Michael
Very brilliant, very intensive, very beautiful song full of pain and passion, nothing is missing how they perform that, best power. Thunder is an excellent band, I agree with everyone here saying they were underrated.
I was there in 1990, my first festival at the age of 22, never seen Thunder before and they made the day for me - they were first on and followed by Quireboys who were good but not quite up to the standard of these guys on the day, they played a blinder - like their careers depended upon it - but enjoying the moment too! The weather was just awesome, me and the coach-load of lads we went there with got mid way into the audience and parked ourselves right next to some 'hells angels' who turned out to be great guys, drinking some mysterious 'peach tasting petrol' which we sampled during the gig (shit it blew your head off), and one of our guys had a bit of 'go for the road' which went down well with them. It was a great mixture of music and company which made an awesome concert, one of which I feel privelidged to have been part of and a memory which will stay with me for ever!
I was there too what a day. Thunder, The Quireboys and Aerosmith were all outstanding. Great scenes when Jimmy page came on to play with Aerosmith. The opening two bands were the best of the day though.
Peter that sounds like the best way to experience your first every concert. I've loved Thunder since the 90s. Let me tell you about my only experience at Donnington. It was in 1975, I was 20 and I went with my sister and saw Pink Floyd performing Dark Side of the Moon. Your first concert is always the best.
This vid is from their awesome Monsters of Rock performance in 1990. I was there and they were just amazing! Perfect warm up act to get the crowd in the mood for a party. Ooh and the 'Thunder Birds' girls handing out badges and stuff! Love Thunder. Saw them something like 12 or maybe 15 times. Gonna miss 'em *sob* \m/
Totally agree with previous comments - soooo under rated. Brilliant band and vocals by Danny Bowes are just amazing. Saw them recently with Whitesnake and Journey - and they were the best band - even though I I've always loved Whitesnake and DC.
Oh yes! What a song. Thunder broke the trend for the opening band at Donington being bottled off stage - by being feckin' brilliant! All opening acts since have Thunder to thank!
I still don't get it why this terrific band didn't got the worldwide attention they deserved. Glad to see they still exist. Please go see them!
Brilliant Band and what a Voice this Vocalist has !!!! It's right up there! My God🙆
This man could sing me the phone book and I'd still cry from the awesomeness
Brilliant comment..So true!! 👍
10 years later and I feel the same as you
This performance is over 30 years old, and still is 'How To Do It' 1:01. Breathtaking.
Absolutely
Whitesnake, Aerosmith, Poison, Quireboyz and Thunder.
I went mainly for Whitesnake and Aerosmith but had never seen any of the bands in the lineup. All were great, however I found Aerosmith who were one of my favourite bands at the time, quite disappointing apart from where guitarist Adrian Vandenberg did a solo that blew Steve Vai's solo off the stage.

Definitely one of the best days of my life during my Royal Air Force service.
Thunder were the best by far that day and repeated it yet again in 1992. Just wish I could transport back into the crowd on that wonderful summer's day 🤘🤘🤘
Danny always with the voice..one of fave songs with an awesome guitar solo. This band is Promo.
The most underrated band ever should have been huge!!!
What a singer.. I'm speechless.
25 years on and I still remember being there and how Thunder just blew the crowd away. Totally amazing day.
So many rock "singers" simply can't pull it off live, they just haven't the range. This guy is absolute class. And a Londoner. Even better. Go Dan!!!
Back street symphony has always been one of my favourite albums . Absolute class !!
Still Thunder's & Danny Bowes' finest moment.... An absolutely stellar performance...
Absolutely incredible. They should have done more songs with Ben on keys like this, absolutely smashes it! 🔥🔥🔥
The amount of emotion he puts into the word “goodbye” gets me in the feels every time
Yh, he's a good singer, good band to be fair, perhaps underated?
Yes very underated
If it was Donington I was there!!..Thunder are still are amazing..this song gets me everytime ...the words kill my heart with the trail off lost loves..when you fall outta love with someone..Where does the love go??
Absolutely a fabulous band..I miss seeing them live🤘
Most underrated band ever
I was at this festival, as I remember it thunder were first band on and the absolutely nailed it ,best band of the day and Aerosmith and whitesnake headlined ,what a day !!!?
Danny Bowes is by far the best singer that has ever sung. No offence Freddy Mercury but this man is very under rated. Fantastic voice fantastic band

simonleeg37 rag znd bone man skin live
one of VERY few that can still belt out the quality that got him there.
Phenomenal rock and roll band. The vocals, the songwriting, the instruments, the musicianship. Too notch.
Loved Thunder when I first heard them in 1990. I was the manager of Music Express, a music store leasing space from Montgomery Wards, at Wheaton Plaza, in Maryland. WHAT A VOICE!!
This is brilliant, as are all their songs and what great musicians. Found Danny on Planet Rock. Still doing it.
I had the privilege to see the boys three times in Manchester for the Christmas shows and hand on heart they are the best live act I have ever seen.
cant remember how many times ive seen these boys play, must be double figures , met the original line up at sheffield back stage in the early days, still kick ass, stole the show at 2011 high voltage. keep on rockin'
THE best band to come out of UK in the 1990"s without a shadow of a doubt ! Pure class !

Absolutely love his voice and how tight this band is. 😍

Couldn't agree more, well said.
Great band, good song to showcase Danny's voice.
I was there.....back in the day.
Thunder back in the top ten with their latest album......fantastic!

32 years since i went to see them at newcastle city hall, absolutely amazing
Danny had-has an amazing voice. Thunder such underrated-like Little Angels. Their support in UK is huge- shame not elsewhere .
Bills wife posting: My daughter had her first slow dance with her father to this song when she was 9. (1991) Fitting considering he was always walking in and out of her life. It became "their" song. She and I have been listening to Thunder ever sense. Love them!
Danny's pants are tight rolled!!! I used to do that shit too! God I love the 80's!!
Brilliant, brilliant, brilliant! Fell in love with Thunder's music at this point and still can't stop listening to them, in 2018!! In fact, their two latest albums are off the charts: Wonder Days and Rip It Up. :-)
Absoloutly love thunder I went to see them 23 yr ago at newcastle and was blown away...

Do you know what a ballad is?
Those guys are so great. I saw them several times live. One of the best live bands ever, indeed!!!
Massive fan and was delighted to meet the band twice. Extraodinarily underrated. Danny actually made a video to congratulate me on my wedding day. Absolute heroes, and I can't wait to see them live again sooner rather than later.
Amazing sound mix...Danny killing it...they all killing it....
Danny Bowes has a brilliant voice... Saw these guys "support" Aerosmith... I know who was the better band on that night...
donington 1990 i went to see aerosmith and this happened wow followed this band to the end wish they would have a re union i dont like lukes new band the union we need to hear danny singing forever
tom dillon look into their facebook page... new stuff is coming from them, including new cd.
tom dillon new album coming out soon called wonder years i think

Seen this band twice in the old days great band great days
I was there, they blew everyone away. Thunder: the band that were always on the brink of taking over the world... and I'm told the first band to open Donington and not get bottled. Respect!

AWESOME !
Great!! Don't know how I missed this in the 80s!! Thanks for sharing!!
90s
This performance should go down as 1 best opening performances at Donington park
I discovered Thunder at Donington just about 3 months ago. I have watched the 3 songs on here every single day since. I have became a huge fan of this band. I was stationed in England in the US Air Force and attended the 84 Monsters of Rock. This is probably the best live song by a singer I can recall. There's a CD/DVD on discogs
www.discogs.com/Thunder-Live-At-Donington-1990-1992/release/6866936

A great Band !!!! I love their music
Very unique voice with some Plant and Coverdale reminiscences.
Don.
I had to work all that day in a boiler room
You made it amazing man xx
Siony Rogers
Very brilliant, very intensive, very beautiful song full of pain and passion, nothing is missing how they perform that, best power. Thunder is an excellent band, I agree with everyone here saying they were underrated.
One of my all time fave bands. Absolutely adore Danny and the boys.
This should be a classic rock staple! Bleeds of late 70s Journey, and early 80s Whitesnake....me likey!
This blows my mind how good it is. No. Words.
That sounds like a rock n' roll show at it's finest.
nice!!!! couldnt ask for better than that!!!
Top mam seen thunder over the decades still amazing

Hell of a voice!!!
the best Band at Donington that day.
I forgot how much I loved this band in the 90's, just amazing .

Some tunes never get old. Love this band.
