Ground-breaking wetland restoration on Salisbury Plain Training Area

DIO has worked with Wiltshire Wildlife Trust to deliver a ground-breaking wetland restoration project in West Chisenbury, part of Salisbury Plain Training Area.
The project has restored a 400-metre stretch of the River Avon by enhancing the watercourse and natural floodplain to boost biodiversity and reduce pollution from harmful nutrients. It has created the first nutrient-capturing wetland system of its kind, working entirely with natural processes on a globally rare chalk stream.
The restoration work has been funded by a significant investment from the DIO Conservation Stewardship Fund, with additional funding from National Highways. It has been managed and delivered by Wiltshire Wildlife Trust in collaboration with the DIO ecology team and our industry partner, Landmarc Solutions.
