Welcome to Part 3 of our Oman series, covering our 1 month 4x4 camping road trip around Oman in February and March 2022. Join us as we explore some of Oman’s most challenging 4x4 roads in our rented Toyota Fortuner (hired via bit.ly/OmanCarHire).
We wake up at a spectacular wild camp spot at a mountain pass between Wadi Bani Kharus and Wadi Bani Awf, then head for a morning swim at Little Snake Canyon. We drive through Wadi Bani Awf to the beautifully situated village of Bilad Sayt, tucked away in the mountains with terraces stretched out in front.
Next, we follow more 4x4 tracks through the mountains to Wadi As Sahtan and a spacious camping area looking right up at Jebel Shams. It’s a lovely spot with trees for shade so we decide to have a ‘rest day’, which means catching up on laundry (using our trusty Scrubba!), backing up footage, and prepping some food.
The following day we set off to tackle the most challenging mountain roads we’ve experienced in Oman. First up is the drive to Wijmah village, tucked into the cliffs below Jebel Shams. The village is about 500 years old and fascinating to explore. In the afternoon we head to Yaseb, via a twisting road that eventually leads along an almost sheer cliff face. The views are amazing, but this section of the road is pretty nerve-wracking!
We wanted to check if the road from Yaseb village to Jebel Shams had been finished yet, but it hadn’t so we just returned the same way. With sunset fast approaching, we headed for the same familiar camp spot for a third night.

Very interesting washing machine. Hadn't occurred to me to use a bag in that way

Haha, yeah! That’s actually the Scrubba washbag, a dry bag with a kind of pimpled plastic washboard inside. This one’s been going strong since 2018 😃

Thanks for some excellent footage of this fascinating country. I have visited Oman several times, although nothing as adventurous as your trips, and found it to be the most authentic and welcoming place in the Middle East by far.
    Keep up the good work.

Thanks for that David, very much appreciated. We would say that authentic and welcoming is a wholly accurate description of Oman, hard to think of two more appropriate adjectives. Thanks again.

Thanks very much! Yeah, no green grass for a game in the mountains! And that village is famous for good reason, picturesque in the extreme. And yeah, no barriers on those roads, responsible drivers only 😅

Paul Cézanne said, “It is the artist's duty to be at one with nature.”
I understand what he said as follows:
“It means that in order to create a meaningful world, we should become one with nature.
Given the process by which inner essence of yours and nature become one and with the passage of time, the journey in which more diverse processes are harmonized in an orderly way, two of you definitely show the process of systematically creating A WORK OF ART even in Oman, centered on your life philosophies.
So, I actually look upon all the most attractive videos about your travels as THE MOST INCOMPARABLY STRIKING WORKS OF ART!
Why don’t you try to offer all your videos to the broadcasting stations in the UK to broadcast nationally?
    (From Seoul)
P.S.: I also posted what I felt up to SHORTS VIDEO of yours.

Once again, what can we say!? To be mentioned in the same breath as Paul Cézanne is an honour, and we wholeheartedly thank you for your appreciation of our work. Hopefully we can reach a wider audience in the future through a variety of ways and on different platforms. Saw your comment on the Short and replied 😃… thanks again!

Hi Kim, how do u get to the northern entrance to little snake canyon ?

    • @GoingTheWholeHogg
      @GoingTheWholeHogg  4 місяці тому

Hi, you can drive around to it on the road most of the way, then it's off-road on a wadi track for a short section. You can drive as far as this point 23.210578, 57.385617 then walk to the pool, it's about 5 - 10 mins walk
