Respectfully, I don't think they were trying to reach an audience that is looking for fewer wires, or people seeking an aesthetically pleasing dashcam. I'm honestly thrilled about this camera, mostly for the new sensor, and plan on picking up a two channel as soon as I can afford to. Transferring data between the cameras wirelessly would reduce the bit rate of the rear cam. I would love to see a camera with some sort of serial connector that goes to a main hub installed somewhere in the vehicle that supports a large capacity solid state drive. That would be absolutely incredible, although probably pretty power hungry for parking mode.
For me the solution seems simple… have the main processing unit tucked away up under the dash, then have a single cable run to each. This would further enhance safety by potentially making the main camera even smaller (I agree with you - no screen is an improvement). It would also allow the storage part of the unit to be hidden away somewhere making it more difficult for thieves to make off with the evidence. Finally, I do not understand why no after market stereo (that I know of anyway) has sought to integrate dash cams into the overall setup. (Rant complete 😂)
Imo, a cabled connection is always better then a remote one, especially is you already have other radio communications being used inside your car. I understand the hassle of that cable, but in fact its only the power, and rear camera especially giving problem. But on the other hand it cant be jammed is always stable, then your always had to find a power solution for the rear camera anyway, which this cable solves as wel. If you can install it yourself, go wired, reroute them in a way it doesnt affect your airbags, if you cant, go remote route, and find a specialist to route the power to your rear saving on installing cost.
I prefer this dashcam any day over a cleaner looking installation blackvue that has half the picture quality, the issue with the "cables everywhere" can be largely mitigated by more carefully choosing an installation spot.
You are so right about these dash cams, I bought a viofo a139 pro 2ch a year ago and I hate it 400 dollars I paid for it and it has missed every I mean every close call I've had in my car I have no idea why it only record clips and not constantly from when I start my car to when I turn it off same goes for the front and rear cameras they record when ever they want and not at the same time or in sinc. My final straw was yesterday I got a ticket for a illegal lane change that I know I did nothing wrong but the rear camera footage is what needed and the one thing you can count on is this camera will not record anything you bought it for. I'm sending this pile back and blowing it up on UA-cam maybe save someone from this scam called dash cams should be called scam cams..
Dash cam not working. I just purchased a Viofo A139 pro, after many reviews I settled on this unit. And after 3 days many rounds with brused ribs from laying on my car seal . The problem was the unit would work intermittently would not stay on. The fix was the battery limits switch would shut it down in park mode. So pay attention to your battery voltage I had to put switch to the lowest voltage for it to stay on. It seems simple and stupid right , well it took me 3 days to figure it out , I hope this will save some poeple from a frustrating install.
The best system is Viofo a129 4K Front and Viofo 119 v3 2k on rear using hardwire kits separate 256gb micro sd cards giving plenty of recording time ....
I use A129 4K cameras on all sides doing 5fps timelapse and I save all my videos! I just ordered an A139 Pro to replace the front one. Or I might run it in full 30fps

Alpine has a setup that is exactly what you have described, but it is really pricy.

Yes, dashcam installation is always the main issue, if the quality is good enough

I don't understand what the clear plastic film that goes on the screen before the camera mount is for. And how exactly should it be installed.
It's just a replaceable sticky pad, isn't it?

wrong
Yes wrong… perhaps you aren’t familiar with the new 139 pro, the first to use the newly available image sensor from Sony
