Thank you so much for your lessons. I just started playing the violin at 68 years old, and I'm so excited to learn it as my grandfather was a great 'fiddler' back in the day and I'd always wanted to learn. Thank you so much for teaching us this lovely instrument.
I'm 66, and played violin from 3-6 grades, then cello from 7-12th grades. Your lesson was perfect. I remembered how to tune up and it all came back. I also play guitar, so I was fishing around getting in tune, but I did it! Thanks! I look forward to more lessons!
Thank you, Julia, for the videos! They make getting started a bit easier. Oh, and I couldn't help but notice your restraint... in holding back the vibrato. Lol! I'm sure it's hard to play so basic, when you're used to giving it your all. Much appreciated!
i love it when you ask to get the violin, really ask to go and get it, wait and make funny smile until we REALLY go and GET the violin. Thanks you rock!
I agree that A major is a good start for the beginner. A and E strings are much easier to play then D string. This is why in Suzuki's book, students introduced to D string only in the second half of Book 1.
I just started re-learning the violin and I can't wait to watch more of your lessons as I progress! Thank you for this :) btw what's the name of the song in your intro? :)
Im 53 and Ive had 7 surgeries from practicing guitar . Both hands and both elbows at once one time . I play Paganini and Shosty such on guitar and I just ordered my first violin ever. Cant wait to learn . I know all my chords already from mandolin being the same tuning. so excited...Guitar Ling Ling ......
Hi Julia, I love your lessons and I've learned so much from you over the last year or so. I would love to see videos of you playing scales, with close ups of your left hand. I think I know where your fingers are pressing, but I'm not totally sure. Thank you so much for providing so much amazing content.
Actually, I just found your online lesson that talks about high/low finger positions. That's where I was a little confused. Now I'm off to play some scales ❤
Started learning 3 scales, without watching my fingers, wow it is difficult without watching your hands. I have to keep practising, this is serious stuff. Thanks for making it easier.
You can do it! Listening to hear if you are playing in tune is best way to train your ears to know if you are playing in tune or not. Good job for your hard work.😊
I have a total girl crush on you. Well, I could be your grandma, but I haven't played since I was a teen and this is giving me hope that I can reclaim my love of the violin. Thank you🙏❤🙏
I have an idea that would be especially helpful, why add an image of the fretboard and highlight or color in the areas where you press the strings and what they are or whatever? I am sometimes a visual learner, some times an audio learner, sometimes both.
Thank you very much for your lessons. Thanks to you, I have progressed a lot. I had lost the desire to play the violin but your tutorials gave me new desire. I practice every day since I discovered your chain! Can you do a tutorial for Calum Scott's song "You are the Reason"? Please, it is my favorite song ! Sorry for the mistakes, I'm French and I don't speak English very well ...

RECENTLY I FOUND OUT CHOPIN TEACH FROM BLACK KEYS AND C IS THE LAST SCALE HE TAUGHT, THE SAME THING A CONCERT PIANIST TOLD ME LONG TIME AGO, C IS MOST DIFFICULT TO PLAY😮😮😮
You can buy guides for this online but a teacher will be able to find them. Alternatively you can use a tuner to find the notes but this would require the strings to be in tune in the first place. Google the notes of A major and put a strip of tape across the violin where those notes are. A teacher can do this for you as an alternative. Interesting question though!
Love all your videos, so much help! Please comment on the best order to learn the scales after starting with A major? And do you have a video for bowings and rhythms for single stop scales? Also what is a single stop scale? ! Thank you!
Thank you so much for this video. You really inspire me❤ I made a decision this year to be serious with my violin practices but there is a problem I always encounter during my practice routine. I experience a strange sound on the A string when i place my 2nd finger on the A string while playing the A scale. I tried changing the A string but i still experience that problem. Please do you know what the problem might be and the possible solution? Thank you.
Last night the master said practice the violin slowly and regularly you will get there.... Rachmaninoff said the SAME as told and heard by Ruth Slenczynska his last living student 👍👍👍👍👍
The key of A usually refers to any scale that begins and finishes on A. It could be A major, A minor or A chromatic if you want to go a bit further. The term Key of A alone does not denote which notes you should play, you need a little more info like whether it is major or minor, for example. All major scales follow the same pattern of distance between each degree of the scale. Whether you start on D, B or A you will have the same 'major' feeling to the scale which is a happy feeling..if you play a minor scale in any key, A, B, C etc, it will have the same sad feeling, just starting on a different note. There are many types of scales but major and minor are the most common ones in classical music. Good luck!
Hmm...I've noticed most online violin teachers lack one important component to their lessons -- a varied camera angle. Those of us who want to follow closely everything you're doing, want to see your fingers on the fingerboard. Yes, I know you're telling us and showing us a front profile, but we don't have personal teachers, so you're it for us. I would, therefore, suggest having someone shoot footage of your finger positions on the fingerboard. It would help us beginners immensely, because we want to know we are doing it correctly. Also, you'd get way more views for your videos. Thanks for your lesson.
Hi T M! 😊 I have a new feature on my website for helping to clear out confusion when learning. You can search specific techniques and they are organized by level (beginner, intermediate, etc2). violinspiration.com/free-violin-lessons-beginners-intermediates-online/
This is a great video, but I need it to be 10 times slower. LOL. Question: I have the sticker with notes on my fret board, but I can't see it while I'm playing; any suggestions? Another question: I'm having so much trouble with how to comfortably hold my violin. It seems like the chin rest is always digging into my neck and that hurts. Also if I do get a semi comfortable position on the chin rest then my shoulder rest isn't even touching me and vice versa. Why can we not play the violin on our lap, the way a cello is played on the floor?
Hi Tia! 😊 I'd love to give you personalized feedback, if you'd like you are always welcome to check-out my online violin academy: violinspiration.com/academy
