Note: On the Audio Summary part i meant to type in "Demolition Crew" instead of Demotion lol. Next there are a couple of black screen cuts i added for a dramatic effect, as if holding your breathe while travelling back in time! 🎉

Right about the Beatles and replacements (by order of the Crown). Paul died Fall 66.. Scottish boy Billy makes fake for decades. M15 plant, what a mess. Voice prints, finger prints show it. He went to jail in Japan for Impersonating Paul McCartney. The pot bust revealed his fingerprints were not the same as in 66. Japan had to save face. THAT was the problem. Scotland Yard got Billy and Linda back to the UK. But the fab 3 saved the British economy. By order of the crown, Billy plays on. Denny Lane (Moody Blues) wrote for Wings not Billy. Just put Justin Haywards voice on some of those tunes....you will see. Billy did not write Live and Let Die. Not a Beatle song, eh? That be Denny. Linda knew it, the one legged one nearly blew it. The mystery continues and Billy tours. Saw him. He sucks. He signs his bills with his right hand. Busted at the restaurant and told my friend who questioned it to "mind his own "F*ggin Business". George Martin and Billy ran the show from 67-70. 36 months and only one real record (Pepper). The rest was just filler nonsense and leftovers from the Paul years. Space fillers like Abby Road "medley". George hated that, but they took his songs finally. He shut up. He was real. The rest is BS. I knew Makunda Das his Hindu Priest when I was active duty Navy in DC (DC ISKON Temple - Hare Krishna). So sad. Lennon was going to blow it open and reveal Tavistock Institute/CIA role in "the Band". That is why they could not play live. Billy towers over the others at six foot plus. Paul was 5'10".Billy admits it all in his book published by Maaca Press. His own. Few can handle the smoke and mirrors of the music industry. They really are evil. I walked out on record deals and tours as it is only to get you into debt so you will never see your money. Tom Cruise owns nothing. He is a corporation. I went to Medical School. Most never get paid. Peter Grant was different as he was a criminal. He almost went to jail with Bonzo for murder after nearly killing Bill Grahams employee in Oakland on Day on the Green 77. I am from the Bay Area. Zeppelin paid his medical bills, like they did when Rodney B. (the DJ, KROQ, I know him) overdosed on cocaine at the Riot House in Pagey's room and stroked out. Page paid for it all. I never brought it up with Rodney.
The Bill Graham Presents roadie (BGP) nearly died at UCSF ICU from head injuries .NOT COOL. See what cocaine and "Scarface" ethics get you? Grant was terrible. Violent and unstable. Zep went to his head. I do not miss the music industry at all. Bye bye Whisky Jonesy also hated the darkness and wanted to bail Zep....strange day have found us, a casual joy.@dZeppelin-Stories

Jose , excellent breakdown of the show. The 1980 tour gets over looked so much. I have had told many people that who didn't even know they did the tour. Love the reference to Randy Jackson and Zebra. Before their first album they were the go-to club band for all things Zeppelin, in the New Orleans area. I didn't arrive to Germany with the Air Force until 1981 but was able to buy a European Tour 1980 poster....that sadly I have since lost. I was so proud of that poster!

The 1980 tour always fascinated me from the first time I heard the Zurich show. I loved hearing the 80s Zeppelin version of Train Kept A Rollin' and the epic Kashmir. I prefer 1980 Kashmir than most of the 77 workings. I can't wait to watch this video. I just finished watching the Love Beach episode. You sold me, I'm going to get that album afterall.

…no disrespect and I’m NOT being a d, but…the 1977 Kashmir I feel was the pinnacle of it’s live versions. The Mellotron that Jones used sounded just like the studio version - like a live Moroccan street band. Then there’s Bonzo’s epic endings - these were enormous! The 1980 versions sounded a bit tired and John largely played just to get through the songs. There are a few good ones from ‘80 but….the ‘77 ones definitely were the ones. I mean…listen to Cleveland 4-28-77…it’s just larger than life itself.

    • @JCM-LedZeppelin-Stories

What i like about 1980 LB is the sustained D note Jones was able to play behind the descending chords. This he could not do before. But i definitely understand why you say this, you are not wrong.

    • @luvbasses5487
      @luvbasses5487 6 місяців тому

@@JCM-LedZeppelin-Stories oh yes. This playing D pedal point on bass pedals (pun, and no pun intended,) during the descending parts in Kashmir is demonstrated wonderfully in all the perfectly balanced SB recordings from 1975. For me personally this is a huge part of why the ‘75 SB concerts are so enjoyable. Robert (while visually stunning in ‘75) struggled tremendously but I give him a total pass knowing what he did for the first five years. He earned his spot and fried his voice for us the fans. Jones really shined in ‘75 as his role got even more laborious and crucial. I learn so much from every frickin thing the guy does. He’s 1000% worthy of my undivided attention. Bonzo too!

New Kids On The Block ruled the charts back then) from Bleeker Bobs on Melrose Ave in LA. Bootlegs were gingerly removed from under the front counter by the store clerk for your perusal back then.

I hear you JCM, I think In Through The Out Door is a GREAT album. It happens to show how much talent was in the band, with Plant and Jones doing most of the heavy lifting to get the album done. I sometimes think there will never be another band like Zeppelin, I mean with Page and Jones already have years of professional experience from the time they were, literally, kids (I mean how much talent do must one possess to get the opportunity to work with music professionals with many years of experience, and you are still a teenager?). People like that are hard to come by I would imagine. And Page was fortunate to find Plant, who in turn knew Bonham, both of which are huge talents, and falling into the company of Jones and Page, it all just came together perfectly. That is my understanding of it all, and how often does that kind of thing come about?

It seems they had ups and downs on this tour, but managed to crank out serious gems. Had they made it to the USA, the music would have been high quality, and they may have expanded the setlist. Howevr, I do believe there would have been logistical issues and too many negative hangers on due to the shadow of the 1977 tour. I really wish they would have taken a break, have Jimmy and John clean up their lifestyles, and rocked through the 1980s. Just my thoughts, but we will never know. Another great video JCM, I personally never really looked into this concert. I already mentioned it a few times, but 1979 and 1980 Zep is just so different. It feels so much more mature, subdued... perhaps humbled. I think it took a lot of effort to bring Robert back. I think he was done with the things that gave them a rowdy reputation in the early days. Gone were the crazy excess stories from the early 70s of copious drug abuse and all kinds of mayhem. Of course whether those stories were even true to begin with (and if so, the degree) remains disputed. I have a little book that was given to me by the very kind owner of a record store near me in Holland. It's about the Zep history in the Netherlands. The boys were in Rotterdam in 1980 and looking for the best brothel in town... when in Rome, eh? 😉

    Great stuff as always, TY.
I asked before in the comments of one of your other videos about asking if LZ had any plans of attempting to play Fool in the rain live.
I think I asked and you answered that they did not. Question:
With the complexity of that song on so many levels, was it the reason that it was not performed live? And, do you believe they could have pulled it off live night after night, and how do you think they would have done it?
I know this is a lot, but if anybody would know, I imagine it would be you, because if you were extraordinary knowledge and love of all things, Led Zeppelin.

Carouselambra would have just been a monster or "Epic" performed live on this tour IMO. I don't know that they could have pulled it off as an opener, but I like to pretend that they absolutely could have. With the drone effect of the Bass notes in A i can see it happening. Not much different from a Trampled Underfoot scenario and Jimmy using the 12 string for this one. Rehearsal tapes show the GX-1 had a great low end. What i think the challenged remained was in it's length and the boys not rehearsing THAT much!

At this point, both were heavily into their addictions. Yea, they sound decent, but it's as if I can tell Robert was ready to move on. They could have gotten back together, after Page and Bonzo either quit their addictions altogether, or at least got them under control. By then, Robert world have released a couple of solo albums. Nice one L.B that Purple record must have a great sound! The good thing about Carouselambra is the Bass parts can be done with a drone approach, meaning Jones could have played the chords a la Kashmir's descending part. Now the intricate bass work on the album does give it a very slick feel. The 1978 Rehearsal Bootleg suggests this missing bass as something that enhances the track. Thank you very much for watching!

One of my favorite Zeppelin shows. Bonham is tight, pushing and grooving. One question I must ask, the show audio... what audio source is this? The soundboard is common in trading circles, the audience source while far rarer, is out there too. Is this another source or did you do some editing to the board to add ambiance? They waited way to long from Knebworth to this tour... Just a Shame . Not sure what the American Tour would of been like BUT I sure wish we got a shot to see or hear it . Losing Bonzo was a devastating loss . They could of returned to the biggest band PERIOD again IF they played a bit longer and added A few more Rockers to the the setlist. And made new Material you know the kind Page and Bonham talked about in late 79 .. Back to More Rock guitar driven material
Again the wait from August 79 to the 80 Euro tour was just soooo much time wasted away that hurt the band imo. Another Plant choice Im sure.

@@JCM-LedZeppelin-Stories I agree. 1980 is fascinating…it’s sort of old world meets new world. I see pictures of Lennon in 1980 and he seems to be almost part of what would be an emerging modern era…(he was into New Wave like Blondie, and the B-52’s, his whole vibe seemed geared towards the emerging decade and beyond yet he never made it out of the first year of that decade). 1980 has something similar with LZ. Their tour was a back to basics approach that seemed to be informed in some part by punk and New Wave, their look was a bit more informed by the current bands of 1980…Robert wore T shirts and jeans, Jimmy wore t shirts and JPJ had a shortish haircut and subdued fashion…only Bonham held out with his beard. Even LZ’s musical pals and influences were changing for the times. Robert and JPJ shared the stage with Pretenders and Attractions in late 1979. John Bonham became a massive Police fan. The times were changing but they (like Lennon), wouldn’t go further than late 1980.

Mr. Spaulding what gives away its Jimmy is Bonham's laugh when Page says they got a number which clearly mocks Robert's on stage banter :) Also when he goes for the good evening line, he is pushing his soft tone into the extreme.

      It's definitely Jimmy speaking.

I really like this series. But the washed out colorizing is getting old. I find myself wishing they were just normal looking. Great job. Well done, watched them all.

The Colorizing is a form of regression in how we remember the past :) Thanks for tuning in. My Patrons seem to like the video style and i will keep at it!

I can't stand the synth line through the slow bridge of In The Evening on the live versions. What he and Page are doing there live ruin the magic of the song for me.

That's a strange thing right? I went back and checked the studio version. It puzzles me why Jones decided to use that part so upfront. Page did a fine job. Sometimes i think Jones should have just played Bass on this one as his lines on the record truly make this song a POWERHOUSE.

I love everything about Led Zeppelin. But I just don't get why Hot Dog is featured in live shows. Sorry, it's just not worthy. Maybe useful for its fun vibe, it's loose upbeat tempo and feel, but nah, it's not worth devoting time in a live show to it. Any other song but Hot Dog ffs!

I didn’t like this song at first. The older I got. I love it. It’s a fun song. Sounds cool and upbeat. They loved playing it probably

I don't know why zeppelin didn't try 'for your life'.....'candy store rock'.....'fool in the rain'.....'carouselambra'....'I'm gonna crawl'....on this tour and drop some of the old - old songs....'hot dog'....I mean....come on....

Yes Volpeverde, they had enough material to try out different things. I sense Jimmy suffered from nerves on stage..., i really do. Rehearsals for them were not your average learning the song but living with the pressure of delivering! Thank you very much for watching!

@@volpeverde6441 they were entering the point of their careers were “here’s a song of the new album” equaled time to get a beer. If Led Zeppelin ditched the hits and played only tunes from the last couple albums… they’re would have been a riot. I don’t know why hot dog even exists it’s a lame ass song to begin with, but while I agree the setlist getting updates would have been good… you gotta play the hits too.

They were very very good in '80 .. save for a few shows. Hate to say Jimmy was weakest link then. But for obvious reasons.
