Jose, again..brilliant. You take a solid singular topic and turn it into a music theory masterclass by explaining and informing the way all great teachers do. By showing the connections to the subject and opening minds to "new" music it makes the students better informed and more musically well rounded. This may seem like gibberish to some readers but I KNOW you completely understand every word.
You know my best music teachers were passionate on the Context. I certainly believe i've been very fortunate to Listen and enjoy making essays on my love for music. I am so happy this you feel translates into these videos! Thank you for watching! Stay tuned for Episode of 2 of 2 premieres Saturday May 13th!
@@JCM-LedZeppelin-Stories It does translate and come through. It reminds me of my best classes. They were called "Music Theory" but it was the teacher informing and turning us on to great new music. The first time I heard Tubular Bells was in that class. BLEW my mind and it's still a favorite.
Nah it makes clear sense. I'd just recommend that you reserve the term "masterclass" for either special occasions or its literal usage, because it's thrown around commonly by verbose try-hards and sounds pretentious af. Otherwise, good comment 👍
Tea for One is another example of Jimmy Page being able to capture human emotion with the guitar like nobody else. The song conveys loneliness, longing and desperation. The whole band is just perfect on that track. Its a work of art.
I really appreciate how you isolated moments from previous live Dazed and Confused solos that later were incorporated into Achilles Last Stand. A great ear you have. Regarding Tommy Bolin, he with Deep Purple came to do a show in Fort Worth, Tx sometime in 1976. A friend and I met Tommy the night before the show at a record store signing. Surprisingly, there weren't many people there and we were able to chat and joke around with Tommy. He was easy going and friendly. He told us that he had recently been over at Robert Plant's place and that Robert played for him new tracks from the next Zeppelin album. We asked how it sounded and he nodded his head and said the band sounds tight on it.
These are absolutely the best Zeppelin docs out there. I really don’t know how you do it. I’ve read numerous books on the band over the past 43 years…..but I am learning so much from each one of these episodes. Keep up the great work. We all appreciate it,Jose. Cheers ✌️❤️
I started with In Through The Out Door in 1979 and worked somewhat backwards. I had just started high school that year. My brother had the 8-track and his favorite song was All Of My My Love. He was killed November 30 coming back from a Kansas/Van Halen concert in Shreveport, La and I started listening to that album as I slept each night to feel closer to him. It made me become obsessed with drums and by 1982 I was playing drums in a band. I got cassette copies of Coda, Presence, and their first album in 1988 by trading two Doors cassettes for them. I think the guy gave me another one too. I got Houses of the Holy for Christmas in the mid 80s. By 1990 I had them all.
@@baneverything5580 My deepest condolences for your loss .that it's always there is a life lived . That it dosent define you makes your life mean the more. Which makes your brother proud in another place . We are defenders of the faith .keep rockin.
I have to say you did your homework. You taught me a lot about Led Zeppelin i never knew before. I wasn't expecting much to be honest with you. There are so many videos about them that are just repeats of info youve heard over and over again. But not your video it was a breath of fresh air.
Thank YOU John for watching. I appreciate your kind words! This video series was very fun and demanding to make. I really love this album...more than Graffiti (don't tell anyone). The level of respect and admiration i have for Zepp...is tremendous!
I fell in love with this album. I discovered it on my own, like Topographic Oceans. It jams. In the Evening and Carasolambra (sp?) seem to be in a similar vibe. Page and Bonham wanted a heavy follow up to Out Door.
JCM this was increadible. You Sir are an absolute treasure. Your playing blew me away also during your last live Jam. Boy did I get lucky landing on that one. Can't wait to watch the next episodes and cherish the time. Bravo my Brother !
My Pleasure! Thanks so much for your kind words, i appreciate them. This project keeps growing and i am happy to share the love for music with you guys. I love music, no other way to put it. Life may get complicated, but music makes it worth living :)
Ahh, "Achilles Last Stand". It really is a masterpiece when you think about it. Bonham and Jimmy have never been so tight and in synch with one another. Just the sheer power and force following the introduction, then throughout the entire song, is just amazing. Plants vocals range with reminders of both the "Immigrant Song" and "Kashmir". The lyrics, have to be some of the best Robert ever penned as well: "Oh the sweet refrain. Soothes the soul and calms the pain. Oh Albion remains. Sleeping now to rise again.''... (it continues): "Wandering and wondering. What place to rest the search? Well the mighty arms of Atlas. Hold the heavens from the earth. From the earth.." Nothing less than poetic genius. The first time I heard the song, the introduction especially, with Jimmy's multi-track layering, it just gave me goosebumps, it still does to this day. ''Tea for One", "For your Life", and "Nobody's Fault..." always stood out to me as exceptional, as well. Not a clunker on the entire album. If ever there was an underrated Zep album, this would be it, (my opinion). Thanks for your take on it, JCM; as usual, you left me with a sense of wanting more. You rock! Oh, and the Reggae tune footage from the Earl's Court gig, was an awesome inclusion. I'd never seen that before...
Hey James you are right on the money on Achilles. It was poetry in motion. Bonham shined there like a mad man. Presence deserves more appreciation in the historical context it was made. Thank YOU for watching! Stay tuned for Episode of 2 of 2 premieres Saturday May 13th!
I totally agree with “underrated” album. 7 songs made me wanting more. My FAV’s ALS, FYL, NFBM, T41, CSR. 🌟✨💫✨ I bought the 8track in 76. I played it over & over all night which was a FRIDAY night. While Rock Bands played @ local parties. It was MY TIME in Heaven.
I was in the habit of taking long after supper walks. On one of my walks I came upon a local elderly woman walking her dogs. We talked and she told me she didn't understand modern rock music. I later brought her this album. When we met up later she thanked me profusely and said that she goes to sleep every night listening to this album and that her husband now hated my guts..so brought her deep purple made in europe..she loved it..long live rock n roll. Good video ...much love.
I absolutely LOVE how you incorporate the times in which this album was created and even how the almost unfathomable events and individuals who lent their talents to this endeavor aided in it's evolution. As a product of the 70s, I must thank you for reminding me that this was the greatest decade for music - not just rock, but every genre. Much appreciated, bro!
The greatest decade in many artforms, movies for exampe, so much innovation. I am happy to read your comment as my research has me immersed in the playlists, politics and more of the time period i am investigating. Thank you very much for watching! Stay tuned for more videos coming soon.
I was fortunate enough to be 16 yrs old when this album hit the record stores. Presence literally changed my path and snapped me out of the doldrums. Well, well...❤
Thank you so much man! Saw your Channel, lots of great stuff i need to check out. Let me know on your upcoming Live Chat for Presence, that's gonna be FUN! A record that deserves much more love from the rock and roll community!
When they played For your Life at the Kennedy Space thing. Robert surprised the shit out of me on how well he did. Because I'm about at the point that Robert has lost his ability and I can't listen to it or it's me expecting too much from a 70 something year old man. Because Robert was GREAT in their heyday
Thank you for posting these. Peter Grant scared the Mob away from encoaching on the biz, but also knew them from his wresting days. He hired the right people to keep them out during the Bad Company days. No one wanted to be on Grant's black list.
I don't know why... I like all Led Zeppelin albums... I don't have a preference for any song because everything Led Zeppelin produced even if it's not theirs seems to be true works of art. But I like Presence. Heavy and magical in Bonham's strong beats and solos. The truth is... Led Zeppelin is good at everything they do or... did. And the channel is good too.
Presence was a personal showcase for Bonham, the way he approached the drums here was really special, also, the recording process seeemd to really capture the bright and crips frequencies in the best way since probably their 1969 debut! Thank you so much for watching! Stay tuned for future episodes!
I have watched all your series over and over and this just might get the most replays ...love this album. Your breakdown of Achilles and the lifts form live Dazed and Confused are top notch on how the riffs formed. Great job Jose !!!
Hey Vance thank you so much! Doing the research for this one had me looking at things from different angles and i am glad it translates on the video. Presence is a unique record right? As always so good to read you and hope you are doing well. Stay tuned for Episode of 2 of 2 premieres Saturday May 13th!
Absolute gold. These documentaries are of such a high quality, if they were created during the last catalog reissue run, they could easily supplement and should have been included in the super deluxe box sets.
Wow that's quite the compliment. Thanks!! I enjoyed the reissues, yet to get all the box sets! Thank you for watching! Stay tuned for Episode of 2 of 2 premieres Saturday May 13th!
I was just saying something similar to a reaction video of Dazed and Confused. The young black man hosting the show had never heard it. I noticed most of the recommendations were to the more popular songs that got more air play. I recommended he take a listen to the less mainstream album that is Presence. I guess that would be a more advanced class on Led Zeppelin. 😂
The fact that you had the tenacity to find all the parts to ALS in those Dazed and Confused jams proves you are THE expert on Zeppelin. I love the band with all my heart, I was a tape trader and bootleg collector and as die hard as I was, even I couldn't take hour long jam more than once. Thumbs up on your own musicianship. I'm a professional musician myself. You nail those parts perfectly.
Wow thank you Sammy! Honored really. Now i wanna play Achilles live but do a sort of mix with Dazed! Gotta love their jams, so tight those guys were right? Thank you so much for watching! Stay tuned for part 2 premieres Saturday May 13th.
I always get goosebumps when Jimmy hits that last chord after the outro riff on 'Hots On For Nowhere'. It's a growling, perfect feedback chord he cut's off perfectly for effect. 'Candy Store Rock' has one of the most delicious sounding Rockabilly intro riffs I've ever heard. The solo begins with some of the best string bends I've ever heard. 'For Your Life' introduces us to Jimmy using a tremolo bar for some of the best sounding dives that are re-visited and taken to extremes of perfection with his otherworldly sounding bends on 'In The Evening', my favorite song of all time.
Personal favorite Zep album just because "Nobody's Fault" was the only song that got heavy radio play back then. All the other tracks take me right back to '77 jr. high school running wild and free on the beaches of Southern California....😎✌
I picked up a guitar in 2005 because of Jimmy Page. I thought I knew my stuff. I’m absolutely thrilled to be learning so many new facts about this band, even after all these years of fandom and my own personal research. I never considered Presence to be my favorite overall record, but it is home to my two favorite tracks: Achilles and Tea For One. Excellent work from one Zep head to another. This is the kind of documentary the fans and especially musicians really want.
Hey NightShift i picked up my guitar in 2001, we're the same generation i believe. Great! I believe Achilles and Tea are epic yes, Jimmy really outdid himself there. Thank you very much for watching! Hope you dig Episode 2. Stay tuned for more videos coming soon.
Very well done Sir, as usual. I discovered Led Zeppelin at the age of 13 (2011). After a long period of listening to Black Sabbath, Rammstein, Slipknot, Marilyn Manson etc. I rediscovered them last year. I am very thankful for your work, wich comes just at the right time for me. Achilles Last Stand (especially the 1979 Knebworth performance, of curse the first evening) is my favorite Led Zeppelin tune. From the starting riff to the 5/4 part, it is a pretty heavy song, wich becomes more dramatic with the solo in the end and Roberts singing „ahh“. That solo gives me chills. The strong marching snare drum and Jimmys solo sound like looking deep into the abyss. I think, in this song, everyone of Led Zeppelin had a moment to shine. Very agressive, deep and still emotional. It sound like Led Zeppelin is having a knife between their theeth.
Hey man, so glad to read your comment. You were into very heavy music indeed, i had my Rammstein phase at one point, soundtrack of late night partying in 2006-2007, killer band. So cool you rediscovered Zeppelin, welcome to this channel filled with Zepp vibes and a brotherhood of hardcore fans. All the work is done in full admiration of the band and their legacy. I like how you describe Achilles' marching section, it does sound like Jimmy's looking deep into the abyss. Your description is GREAT. Thank you so much for watching! Stay tuned for future episodes!
Yes! Tea for One specially, captured the exact mood past the 1975 accident when Robert questioned life itself! Thank you so much for watching! Stay tuned for future episodes!
Presence, although not my favorite Zep album, is still a criminally underrated album in the rock world. It's such a hard hitting album, and it has two of Led Zeppelin's best-known songs (Achilles Last Stand and Nobody's Fault but Mine). Loved this episode focusing on the backstory of the album, and definitely looking forward to the rest!
These are the documentaries I longed for as a young man fascinated by the technical aspects, recording techniques, and lore of Led Zeppelin. I read all the books and still nothing satisfied me. I told you on your ITTOD stuff that your musician’s perspective on these is why I always look forward to these.
To get inside the music and the times is a passion for sure. Glad you enjoyed this one as much as i did making it! Thank you for watching! Stay tuned for Episode of 2 of 2 premieres Saturday May 13th!
I can’t thank you enough for putting dates with everything. It’s makes the history come together, plus easier to look up the albums which all these disparate tracks are on!
Thank YOU for watching Andrew, i appreciate your kind words. This part of the ZEPPELIN story was all over the place and it was a pleasure to compile, prepare and produce. Glad you enjoyed it! Tea for One was such a powerful track right?
I like how you compared the songs on previous albums like the progressive song, the funny song, the cover, the bluesy one, etc it shows LZ in a new light for me, which is welcome.
Great footage and very informative! One of the best documentaries on Zep! Presence is fantastic! All of Zeps studio albums are masterpieces with genius gems on every album! Best classic rock band ever! The musicianship of each is staggering!!!
" Presence " is my first and all time favorite Zeppelin album. I like the way Page described the album in Guitar World Magazine in 1991: "An album that went against the odds. " The best of the guitaristic aspect of Zeppelin. In fact, " Tea For One " was the very first song I transcribed as a beginner guitar player. Great video! Keep up the grand work.
I was a teen in the 70's and worshiped Led Zeppelin. Had all the posters, all the albums, you know the drill. I would play their albums and study the album artwork and liner notes while I listened over and over. Getting news on the band was usually only from 2 places, the local rock radio station and magazines at the news stand. Because Zep rarely interviewed every morsel of news was so exciting and fascinating. Fast forward 45 years and I still find this news and insight fantastic! Thank you for your hard work!
Sounds like we have very similar stories to our Zep experiences. Mine came later in the late 80's. They touched me the same way. I'm still a Zep fanatic to this day
You were so lucky to live the true experience of not knowing their news other than radio or magazines. The benefit of silence and distance elevated their presence indeed. Thank you so much for watching! Stay tuned for future episodes!
Your videos are so right on man. Zeppelin has been my favorite band for 20 years, having been turned onto them by a friend’s dad at age 13. We didn’t have access to this type of content back then, as you know. Your channel is the best by far. I always wait in anticipation for your next new video. Thanks so much JCM! Rock on!
39:13 I was at this concert in Oakland in 1977. Day on the Green at the Coliseum. Led Zeppelin's last American concert, ever. The memories this brings back are amazing. 😁😁😁😁😁
This might be the best episode yet. A more complete breakdown of Achilles than I thought possible. I think I could listen to that song 10,000 and it wouldn’t get old! Great stuff.
Thank you so much for watching Paul! Stay tuned for part 2 premieres Saturday May 13th. Man i dug through so many versions of Achilles and couldn't get tired of the band's live take on it, so agressive, so much passion there.
I was the only Zeppelin fan in my high school that worshiped Presence. I learned to play Achilles in 2007 after studying Zappa for years and found it as difficult if not moreso the intro took days and the riff was easy compared to it. Presence's artwork mystified me and Page has confessed it's his most Willful record. For the mighty arms of Atlas....
Oh yes Patrick, totally, the intro for Achilles is HARD. You can tell Jimmy probably thought live on stage, "What the hell was i thinking lol". Your sentiments on the album, i agree 100% Thank you so much for watching! Hope you enjoyed Episode 2 of this series as well!
I love how personal you made this. Your stories of how this album affected you is very engaging. Also luv luv luv your soundtrack work playing under the video. The presence theme is great. Good job man.
So cool to read your words, i really put hours into the theme song, glad you enjoyed it. Really had to sit down and think what musid would be appropiate. Thank you for watching! Stay tuned for Episode of 2 of 2 premieres Saturday May 13th!
Glad you liked the research, Dazed was one helluva of a music kitchen. Thank you for watching! Stay tuned for Episode of 2 of 2 premieres Saturday May 13th!
Thank you for this. I've been obsessed with Led Zeppelin for decades; you can hear the influence all over my own music (I won't shill my channel on your page here; feel free to search if you're interested). That said, Presence has been and always will be my favorite Led Zeppelin album by far. The energy, the production, the songwriting, the performances, all flawless.
Presence starts with Achilles last stand, enough said. I can't put my finger on it, but there's just something about Presence, it pulls you in, and won't let go! Another brilliant documentary!
For me, the Presence album always leaves me wishing there was more when the album finishes playing. I felt that way the first time hearing the album when I was 12 yrs old and I still feel that way at almost 58 yrs old. I couldn't get enough time listening to it when it came out because the album was my older brother's and I had to ask permission to play it. He wasn't exactly a nice older brother to me so, I had to save my lunch money and buy my own copy that way I wouldn't have to ask him if I wanted to listen to it. Because he usually told me no. Hahahaha
Your research is astounding your love for zeppelin comes through in spades.learned so much and so many pics ive never seen and the fact that were getting a fellow guitar players insight is such a game changer in zeppelin documentaries. Please keep them coming!!
So glad you enjoy these videos. As a long-time Zeppelin fan i am doing this out of admiration and deep respect for their works. Adding my musician point of view is just to expand the perspective. Music critics are usually resentful at the fact they wish they could play an instrument and they should, it gives you good vibes in life hehe. Hope you enjoy Part 2 for Presence which premiered last week.
Paraphrasing Plant, "Led Zeppelin being a trio with a wedding singer", and "let's get out of here!". Thank you very much for resurfacing these colors of Robert Plant. What a humble and genuine energy of youth he is.
100% he can revisit the past and understand it so much better. I will discuss this with Felipe later in the evening. Thank you so much for watching Emil!
All your docs have been fantastic so far, I really appreciate how you drill down on the details. Don't ever worry about going too long, the more the better.
Thank you so much for watching Gary! Stay tuned for part 2 premieres Saturday May 13th. I am obsessed with details and sometimes it can't sleep because of it hehe.
Yet another great series. I don't know who wouldn't like this recording. This is a tremendous record. I love your analysis of it being "to hell with it let's see where it goes" paraphrasing. I never thought of it that way but makes sense. They seemed to return back to the early days. I don't care who would say the acoustic stuff was boring because it shows their lack of knowledge and ignorance. That live clip I don't think I ever heard. The gangster story I never heard. I love the tid bits of info I'm getting from this episode. I thought I knew alot but you have given me the details I never knew. I missed the last series but I'll go back. Grant was a genius imo, he is a major reason for the bands success and eventually recieved the credit he deserved it. Kudos my brother great episode. Your research is impeccable.
We will look forward to it. I looked at your page, and have started watching 'Making of Houses of The Holy"; this was the 1st Zeppelin album I owned (actually handed down to me from one of my older brothers). It's always sounded a bit 'off', or different, to me, as I started hearing and buying other albums... Perhaps one of the reasons was that vocal change that you reference Plant suffered through right during the creation of this album? But I really liked it, on still do. I am far more a prog-rock and softer sound guy, than any kind of heavy rock / metal listener (think Pink Floyd, my favourite, and Yes, Jethro Tull, etc.), so, I lean to the tracks like Over the Hills and Far Away, No Quarter, Rain Song, or Going to California, Kashmir, and Tangerine, from other albums. But I love the playfulness that comes across on most of the tracks on The Houses album. It's just really fun, mostly. Cheers!
Love that line. '1975 went from flower power to flower powder' , with all the fan favorite albums that were created during that time. Very nice job JCM. I love that intro music and visual for chapter 4!
Flower Powder was a phrase that just came to me and looking at the times...yeah it was the lifestyle.Thank you for watching! Stay tuned for Episode of 2 of 2 premieres Saturday May 13th!
WOW!! So much to say....I think Presence is my fav Zeppelin album, for ALL the reasons you highlight in the musical analysis. I LOVE the way Achillies was formed from the Middle '73 Dazed Jams, it was like they decided to do a more raw and emotional version of The Song remains the same with the energy and spontaneity of playing live , you can feel the angst in that track, For your Life, I LOVE this song possibly more than any other Zeppelin song, there is something about the journey through this that takes you into the darkness but in such a good way, the SOUND, the SPACE, the sonic structure is INSANELY good!!......I was SO impressed they did this at the 02 even though Plant royally screwed up the middle section.....Hots on for Nowhere is just SO GOOD, I love playing this song!! Tea For One, All the BEST parts of the '73 live versions of Since I've Been Loving you.....he does those sweeping arpeggios in '73, and then puts them in Tea For one with more attitude, emotion and almost exploits his own playing!! Tea for One is EPIC!! I absolutely tip my hat to your depth of musical analysis...there isn't much more that I could add.........Nobodies Fault but mine was the first Led Zeppeling song I ever properly and consciously listened to, my sister brought this album home in 1977, and for some reason put Side 2 on first, I was only 11 at the time but I will never forget the SOUND of the intro, I had never heard anything like that!! I was drawn so far in I literally wore that record out!! Thank you for taking us on the Presence journey!! Can't wait for the next episode!!
Damn JCM, you did it again. You find interviews I have never seen. Your research is beyond anything I have seen others do. Keep up the good work! This was an enjoyable way to spend an hour.
Thank you so much for watching JP! Stay tuned for part 2 premieres Saturday May 13th. Digging the archives and finding stuff is exciting, hope you enjoyed the colors here, wanted to mirror the album cover a bit.
Thanks a million for posting. Presence has an urgency and a drive that hasn’t been matched. It took me a while to understand what they were going for. Some of Page’s best guitar playing on vinyl.
Even the mob wanted a piece of Led Zeppelins pie..you mentioned Paul Rodgers. Once this guy I knew backstage at the end of the show. This guy hands me his camera and asked me to take a photo of Paul and him..I did one better than that..I asked Paul Rodgers can I take your picture and Paul agreed. I asked Paul if he would stand tall and look tough ( bad company) Paul went with it man but I wasn't going to sneak a photo of Paul..noway because of respect man..thanks 🎉
Thank you so much for watching! I really enjoyed recording the theme song, took me weeks to find the right mood, tried several ideas hehe. Stay tuned for part 2 premieres Saturday May 13th.
Out of all the Zeppelin songs, I would have to choose 'Tea For One' as my favourite song. This song absolutely grabs my soul and holds it in the most beautiful, smokey bluesy way.
Your killing it with these brother. Such great work. All of these albums and songs mean so much to us all and you remind me everytime how much. Thank you.🍄👏🏽👏🏽
This episode is shear brilliance. As are all them actually. I look forward to the day when I can binge watch the entire series. Job very well done sir.
Presents is one of my favorite albums by LED Zeppelin, still is, when I first heard Achilles Last Stand I was 8 year's old, I loved that song and those times.
Welcome to a dedicated Zepp channel plus some additional topics on bands like ELP. It's all a labor of admiration for the works of Page, Plant, Jones and Bonham. Thanks for watching!
What a great job. I've been a fan since they were current, although I was just a child at the time. I learned quite a bit that I never knew before. Hands down, best Zep documentary out there. Keep up the good work, you're amazing!
Your videos are excellent and so informative! In my opinion, you are the very best Zep biographer on Earth. I have a fever and the only cure is MORE JCM VIDEOS!!!!
The man himself! MAJEED! The community keeps growing i can't believe it. Thank you so much for watching my dear Patron and supporter. Stay tuned for Episode 2 of 2 premieres this coming Saturday May 13th!
Jose, your Zeppelin documentary series is top shelf man. So professional, unhurried, and well done. I really appreciate the artistic breaks you offer the viewer -time to process what they see and hear. What really puts these documentaries well above commercial documentaries is your “inside baseball“ perspective. You’re not just a musician but also a great guitar player. I really appreciate how you break down equipment, song structures, compare and contrast songs and ideas from past experiments or phrases and offer historical perspective relative to what other bands were producing at the time. So so so much more interesting than anything produced for television. Cheers!!
Cato i REALLY value and appreciate your comment, made my day really. The inside baseball perspective you mention is funny as i grew up on NBA and Michael Jordan binge watching so many VHS' tapes on it , really hit a core memory now that you say it. You see, i believe music is not sports, but...playing a live show and delivering a great show is the same pressure as winning a game. I wanted to play soccer and as a kid i did play basketball, but music slowly changed course with the guitar at age 14. The sport sentiment though, never left my mind. I am a passionate musician who has found here on UA-cam the perfect place to put it to work and monetize it as well, i am thankful everyday. Thank you for sharing your thoughts, it motivate me big time. I will keep going as long as i have the time and coffee ready! Have a great day!
Finally!! You're covering my favorite Zep album...and before I get to saying anything about my favorite Zep album, I would like to say: I'm with you, Jose. I, TOO, am a big fan of your favorite Zep LP, IN THROUGH THE OUT DOOR. I really resent the criticism ITTOD gets. The ideas (especially keyboard) are startling...and Pagey (heroin or not) is still letting his genius shine through with some of his contributions to tracks like CAROUSELAMBRA... But PRESENCE...PRESENCE...oh, PRESENCE. It's the TRUEST Zeppelin album, in my humble opinion. Though they did record the piano-led 10 RIBS & ALL/CARROT POD POD (POD), which was finally released as part of the deluxe PRESENCE box set (and for which no vocal was ever recorded), the released PRESENCE album is the only Zeppelin long-player featuring strictly the sound of the three-piece + vocals Zeppelin band (drums/bass/guitar plus vocals). And the album pulls off an amazing feat: it sounds raw AND also sounds majestic. PRESENCE sounds like one band playing in a room, even though there are layers and layers of guitar overdubs. It sounds like it could have been cut live in one room, in one day...yet producer Pagey has clearly thought out all the different guitar overdubs AND they only serve to add punch to the sound...AND it still sounds in the end like a band playing together in one room. It sounds live. It's...RAW. It has that raw, rock 'n' roll band feel more than any other Zeppelin album. And, Robert in a wheelchair or not...they sound SO energetic. They sound so lively. Unbridled joy. Listen, for instance, to the super-energized solo Page guitar part he inserts in HOTS ON FOR NOWHERE from 3:00 - 4:01. That part gives me goosebumps. They did this album quickly...like a young band & without distractions. No cheesy production tricks. Just a great drum sound, deep & menacing bass, tons of perfectly-arranged & EQ'd guitar. IT IS, I THINK, ZEPPELIN'S TRUEST (and best) ALBUM. It's my desert-island Zeppelin disc. And now, you've finally done a documentary series on this masterpiece of an album by history's all-time greatest rock band. Thank you, so much, Jose. You're so talented. These documentaries are such a joy to watch. I've read so many Zeppelin books...and yet I always learn so much when I watch your documentaries. This will be another portion of the career-long Zeppelin documentary series you've been doing. I hope your plan is to cover every album and other important milestones. HAVE YOU CONSIDERED HOW AWESOME IT WOULD BE TO HAVE A WHOLE SERIES CONCENTRATING ON "THE SONG REMAINS THE SAME" FILM & ALBUM? I know you've covered parts of this in other documentaries, including the HOUSES OF THE HOLY and ITTOD documentaries...but imagine how fascinating and fun it would be to have an entire documentary (or series of documentaries) on the planning, filming & post-production of the best concert film ever made (and amazing soundtrack album). ALSO, in addition to docs on the other Zep albums you have not yet covered, I can envision an excellent doc series on the BBC SESSIONS album/set. There would be so much great stuff to cover/discuss, like the amazing TRAVELLING RIVERSIDE BLUES recording, the "lost" tracks recently added, like SUNSHINE WOMAN...and the Playhouse Theatre show, etc. The 2003 LED ZEPPELIN DVD is worthy of a documentary (or series of documentaries). Just discussing the (non) history of the band's live releases, the archives/vault, the efforts that went into the massive restorations of all the different films/video/multi-track elements...it is (to this day) the most excited I've EVER been purchasing a DVD. Making the set is, in and of itself, a fascinating story. How about an entire series solely dedicated to the Page/Plant era? I love WALKING INTO CLARKSDALE. I basically consider it a Zeppelin album. Anyway, keep up the great work! And thank you again. You make it even more exciting to be a Zeppelin fan. The band has never released documentaries THIS good.
Hey Rikk!!! Man your comment was just GOLD. I agree on all points and let me share a secret....i will do All the video series you mention!!! I just need to make more coffee and find Time hehe. Thank you so much for watching. Stay tuned for Episode 2 of 2 premieres this coming Saturday May 13th!
Great work on these. I love Presence. I was also burnt by church politics but for what it’s worth, I am still a committed Christian and enjoy the occasional Zeppelin or Purple binge. Your guitar teacher sounds like he was pretty cool. Music is music.
It's just awesome.
I believe it was the cornerstone of the album.
A so called love song to "heroin"
The intro to the song is just absolute "brilliance". I wish this theme was revisited....or extended
@@AbleBodied I'd call it a bookend 😊
@@charlesbronson4282 in no way is it that. Robert Plant never touched the stuff. He wrote the lyrics.
Very under rated album. Some of Jimmys best riffs
Thank you so much for watching! Hope you enjoyed Episode 2 of this series as well!
These are absolutely the best Zeppelin docs out there. I really don’t know how you do it. I’ve read numerous books on the band over the past 43 years…..but I am learning so much from each one of these episodes. Keep up the great work. We all appreciate it,Jose. Cheers ✌️❤️
It's amazing, isn't it?
and more proof that Led Zeppelin --- like Sabbath and all the REST of the Giants --- WORSHIPPED the mighty art-rockers of YES.
These vids are a great labor of love!! Great work
I started with In Through The Out Door in 1979 and worked somewhat backwards.

The music that Led Zeppelin recorded and released between 69 and 79 can never be duplicated. Their music will forever be timeless.
Absolutely, an era of GREATNESS!
I love how you presented all the fragments from the past jams that made up “Achilles”! I never heard it put it together that way before…Thanks
Achilles is the evolution of Dazed and Confused indeed. Thank you for watching! Stay tuned for Episode of 2 of 2 premieres Saturday May 13th!
Came here to say this…incredible!!
For your life, and tea for one, were my faves. This was in 1976
Their sound was evolving, so much creativity!
I fell in love with this album. I discovered it on my own, like Topographic Oceans. It jams. In the Evening and Carasolambra (sp?) seem to be in a similar vibe. Page and Bonham wanted a heavy follow up to Out Door.
But ITTOD does rock hard, that's the magic of it i think. Topographic is an acquired taste filled with treasures!
I could never hear the lyrics clearly on ALS. That is poetry, I just never fully embraced Plant. Pagey was one of my top 3 influence`s though
I read there were 17 guitar tracks on Achilles.
You zep documentary is excellent but the way you try to explain the context is really fantastic...thank you
Thank you! Context is definitely the part i like to take my time to write, glad it feels this way!
i love the photo of Bonham with JPJ's bass and Page laughing - it's a very candid moment - probably laughing at the idea of it
Thank you for watching! Episode 2 is out now :)
Presence is one of my favorite albums by any band.
Achilles Last Stand is just phenomenal.
This has been my favorite Zeppelin record since my first listen.
Absolutely raw and powerful.
Some amazing tidbits of info & background on Zep in your work here. Some nice editing of the clips, too ;-)

I always thought Presence was an amazing album, its got a raw feel. For your Life is in my top ten favorite Zeppelin songs.
The solo of For your Life is face melting. So much emotion and off the cuff
Make it top 5 or even 3
all zep albums behind physical are all off an equal ☝🏻
When they played For your Life at the Kennedy Space thing. Robert surprised the shit out of me on how well he did. Because I'm about at the point that Robert has lost his ability and I can't listen to it or it's me expecting too much from a 70 something year old man. Because Robert was GREAT in their heyday

Thank you for posting these.
Peter Grant scared the Mob away from encoaching on the biz, but also knew them from his wresting days. He hired the right people to keep them out during the Bad Company days.
No one wanted to be on Grant's black list.
He definitely managed both bands very well. Bad Company brought in a LOT of cash into their Swan Song business indeed. Thanks for watching!
Achilles is one of the most epic tune ever composed

I don't know why... I like all Led Zeppelin albums... I don't have a preference for any song because everything Led Zeppelin produced even if it's not theirs seems to be true works of art. But I like Presence. Heavy and magical in Bonham's strong beats and solos. The truth is... Led Zeppelin is good at everything they do or... did. And the channel is good too.
Exactly. Every album and every song is solid.
Presence was a personal showcase for Bonham, the way he approached the drums here was really special, also, the recording process seeemd to really capture the bright and crips frequencies in the best way since probably their 1969 debut! Thank you so much for watching! Stay tuned for future episodes!

A definite underrated album, unique. Thank you very much for watching!
I have watched all your series over and over and this just might get the most replays ...love this album. Your breakdown of Achilles and the lifts form live Dazed and Confused are top notch on how the riffs formed. Great job Jose !!!

It took me 20 years to realize that Presence is the greatest Led Zeppelin album.
A signature sound of the 1977 YES, i have a new found love for it after working on this doc!
You know it's good when you get the goosebumps!

I was the only Zeppelin fan in my high school that worshiped Presence. I learned to play Achilles in 2007 after studying Zappa for years and found it as difficult if not moreso the intro took days and the riff was easy compared to it.

Your recollections are Spot On! Quite a treat to read them! Thank you for watching! Stay tuned for Episode of 2 of 2 premieres Saturday May 13th!

Thanks a million for posting. Presence has an urgency and a drive that hasn’t been matched. It took me a while to understand what they were going for. Some of Page’s best guitar playing on vinyl.
Thank you for watching! Stay tuned for Episode of 2 of 2 premieres Saturday May 13th!
Each one of these has been super enjoyable and informative. Great work!
Thank you so much for watching Brian! Stay tuned for part 2 premieres Saturday May 13th.

Mesmerizing video. No one dives deeper into LZ than u do .keep up the great work!
Thank you! This album is a personal favorite as it never loses momentum...you can rediscover it many times :)
AWESOME !!!
Love these. I thought I knew everything there is to know about LZ but I’ve learned much more from this channel.
Thank you so much for watching! Stay tuned for part 2 premieres Saturday May 13th.
Great work on these. I love Presence. I was also burnt by church politics but for what it’s worth, I am still a committed Christian and enjoy the occasional Zeppelin or Purple binge. Your guitar teacher sounds like he was pretty cool. Music is music.
