  • I've bought various pieces of Ubiquiti Unifi equipment (switches and ceiling-mounted access points) with the plan of upgrading my home network for improved speed and greater visibility of network utilization. Watch this video as I upgrade my garage conversion (my home office and UA-cam studio) with the Unifi US-8-60W switch and the Unifi AP AC Lite Wireless Access point.
The video covers running CAT 6 cable, mounting the hardware, and crimping CAT 6 cables!!

I wish when I had the structured cabling installed around my house, I had them terminated in the loft rather than downstairs. All my POE CCTV cameras go up into the loft into a rack with the UNVR and an 8-port switch. The only thing I thought I’d mention. I’m pretty sure the metal plate is used for suspended ceilings. You could have got away with normal screws into the joist.

you do realise the metal bracket is only for drop ceilings/ suspended ceilings. For drywall you're meant to just screw the plastic bracket into the drywall as the ap doesn't weigh much.

Having network installation on attic in that way is totally pointless

Whilst I appreciate that is your view (having my network swtich installation in the attic), I personally dissagree as I like to hide my cables away. I would like to understand why you think this is pointless thought? ...just incase I can learn something new and to better understand your point of view :)

@@TheBearTech I should've written my full point of view instad of crticism, sorry for that. In my opinion in such attic installation you should consider buying a RACK which would've all the electronics hidden and safe from water (condensed). Getting up on attic to repair things is also harder. Installing a server which you might need to upgrade later involves much more work. Finally electricity and wool aren't a good company. Of course those wools are flame and spark resistant but you don't want that to be tested ;)
