Watching this video does brings me sooo much joy to have served in the U.S. NAVY 1988-93 on board the U.S.S. TEXAS CGN-39. It was truly an honor and pleasure to see this magnificent beast of a fighter plane The Mighty F-14 Tomcat in action. The USS TEXAS along with numerous other vessels were part of THE USS NIMITZ CVN-68 BATTLE GROUP during Operation Desert Storm 1991. I can reacall many times standing lookout seeing flight operations especially the night time flight ops seeing The Mighty Tomcat takeoff with the afterburners at night is a thought and sight forever etched in my mind and heart, also there's a video here on UA-cam " USS NIMITZ & USS TEXAS BOMBS AWAY" of our Tiger Cruise from Pearl Harbor to Alameda Naval Air Station California. In the video you will see some of the F-14 armament in action. Rest Well Mighty Tomcat for you truly served your purpose beyond the call of duty.....I salute you🫡🫡🫡
In 1990 on tiger cruise the fly by had a sonic boom and blew the glass off an H-2 were were taking for rework. I told my son who was on tiger cruise to cover his ears, Crapped his 9 year old britches when VF -51 accidently went by super sonic at 50 ft level the Admiral was pissed.
In order for a Super Hornet to go supersonic, they have to dive at a negative AOA with heavy throttle. In order for an F-14D to go supersonic, they just need a little bit of space at military power. No afterburner / augmentation required.
For what the us navy is, the Tom cat is way too expensive (maintenance wise). If the budget was higher they probably would but from a monetary standpoint the f18 is better. Plus with the f35C they probably won’t bring back the tom cat
If this first clip was Vader's flyby off the Independence, I was there, he lost his right engine and made it back aboard. VF-154 Commander, he handled his exfil and recovery like a pro.
I rode the Kennedy and PCU the Carl Vinson... people probably would think that you would see something like this all the time that’s not true... Of course you would see you them taking off and landing and sometimes in the break.... but you wouldn’t get an air show every day... that’s something special.... on the Carl Vinson we did the work ups for the F 18’s... never thought I would see the day that it would replace the Tomcat.
Can someone tell me does pilot have ability to make one engine turn faster than the other one i.e(first fly by on video the aircraft seems to have left engine in afterburner but,not the right engine)???
I have often wondered about that fly-by. It may be just a bit of an illusion since you are not seeing it straight from the back, and you are viewing it pretty close and from the right side. Or the right engine didn't light off to full afterburner and the left engine did. So the right engine was in "Min Burner" instead of "Full burner".
Last night, my girlfriend had a dream that she and I just casually went out on a romantic flight above the Atlantic Ocean in a Grumman F-14 Tomcat fighter jet together. And the 'Top Gun Anthem' was playing the whole time. We were low-flying by aircraft carriers, cruisers, destroyers, battleships, and stuff like that. I fired off two missiles while doing a sweet backflip! Did some crazy manouvers like I was Tom Cruise himself! Just went balls to the wall and went supersonic! Breaking the sound barrier! I want that dream to come true, too! That sounds like a lot of fun! I have seen F-14's in museums and sat in the cockpit of a decommissioned F-14, but I have never flown one. An ace pilot I am not.
I can remember on the loud speaker....." tomcat 3 miles...few seconds later.." tomcat 2 miles..... tomcat 1 mile.....then passes by no sound for about 2 seconds. Then the boom and jet engines sound....then on post flight inspection I would find 6g on G meter. Reset it. ..... these were the good ole days...
