    As an elderly owner of the former, flamepainted topmodel, a 2019 LightweightH6LXBrompton (I honestly don't know if my handlebar is the new M type, but it looks the part of being an "original Brompton" folding bike!), I have tried to change my tensioner to several metal ones, some of which didn't actually fit my bike! Latest an expensive and very, very simple looking, black version and with two holes to be selected for the one and fixed axle! None of which actually fit my bike!!! So I went back to my former, golden metal one, which fits! I would prefer that the producers named the year to and from which they may fit my bike.
    I don't like the scraping metal sound of the tensioner wheels against the chain, so I changed back to the original plastic wheels, for much less noise when riding!
    I have a set of titanium bolts, nuts and parts for my brakes, but the two long fixing bolts didn't fit, so I found a very kind dealer in China (comfortable cycling store), willing to send me two, single bolts, which from model year - 2018 will fit my bike. The damned English haven't got any record of a continuous production, giving any kind of sense! My first and only English car was a 1966 production disaster! A BMC Mini on which - nothing really functioned. The paint peeling off round the hinges and water, also coming in from the corners of the front screen, to name a very, very few!!) 🤔Finn. Denmark

      The tensioner wheel need to be inside the two shift chain-wheel changer on the frame, and none of the positions were right!!

    Hi, really like your Brompton mod videos.
    I've quite a bit of mods on my P line, but one thing that I figured should remain stock is the tensioner.
    The tensioner can be very close to the ground and can easily take hits. The stock one withstands hits pretty well. I'm not to sure about a full aluminum one.

    • @BromptonFamilyTime
      @BromptonFamilyTime  2 роки тому +2

      That is true. You have to be more careful especially if you ride near the curbs here.

    • @cruz1969
      @cruz1969 3 місяці тому

      Not in Singapore roads as our road are right hand drive. The tensioner or any derailleur will always facing the opposite side of the curb

  • @RvanLaar66
    @RvanLaar66 8 місяців тому +1

    It would be interesting to learn how the tensioner (especially the spring) has hold up after a good year of use?
    I don't understand why H&H doesn't provide a fitting bolt for the tensioner wheel as the stock Brompton bolt is clearly too long.

    • @BromptonFamilyTime

      It has been working fine since I have installed it. That said, it isn't really a necessary upgrade unless maybe you want to change the color.

    hello BFT! I'm very curious about the weight difference between the T-line original and the lightweight T-line so far Thank you for always posting good content videos!! Aslo, I think it would be great to make a comparison video after the weight reduction is finally completed

    • @BromptonFamilyTime
      @BromptonFamilyTime  2 роки тому +1

      I don't have a scale to weight my bike right now but I should be in the 15.5 lbs area. The stock 4 speed weights 17.5 lbs. The stock T Line is so light you really don't need to do all the stuff I am doing. This is my dream bike so I am taking things to the extreme. Most of my previous Bromptons remained stock.

  • @williesurvives1
    @williesurvives1 Рік тому +1

    your on a mission to get your bike as light as you can .....just remember the lighter you make it the more fragile it becomes and allot of thought was put into it when it was first produced .....so you may win in the long run but at a inflated Brompton price tag

    Hi all, I have chains dropping off too. It's usually when I am peddling hard suddenly. Dropped occurred at rear cog, it happened on stock tensioner, cogs, on both my P Line and 3 speed superlight (previously 2 speed) on 11 speed chains.

    • @BromptonFamilyTime
      @BromptonFamilyTime  2 роки тому +2

      My T Line and Superlight are waxed chains. Once the steel bike chain wears out I am going to use wax on that too. Wax is definitely the way to go. So much cleaner and runs smooth!

      Before my last superlight build I was always on a budget. So my must have upgrades are the seatpost, seat, ergon grips (or spirgrips) and titanium brake caliper bolt set for the front and rear. The rest can come over time.

    Hi;
    I really like your videos 😊
    Do you think Brompton T line is better then electric one? I am 38 years old.
    Please suggest.
    Please let me know
    Thanks in advance

    • @BromptonFamilyTime
      @BromptonFamilyTime  2 роки тому +1

      I have never ridden an electric bike or anything electric so I can't really compare. You should test out both since they will have different ride qualities. Also, the electric comes on two types of frames now called the Electric C and Electric P. I would personally go with the Electric P over the Electric C since it is lighter (as long as you can afford it). Maybe one day an Electric T will come out. That would be the ultimate combination but quite expensive.

    Hi brother, can I check with you which part (most weight savings) I could change to make the t line lighter?
    As I installed a carbon rack + 4 wheels (tiparts) for easy rolling, weight increased, I need to reduce some weight 👍🙏

    • @BromptonFamilyTime
      @BromptonFamilyTime  2 роки тому +2

      I'm changing everything eventually. I think a good place to start are the brake system since they are an older design. depending on your budget, most people will change the seatpost, seat, wheel set and crankset eventually.

    • @BromptonFamilyTime
      @BromptonFamilyTime  Рік тому +2

      I am happy with the stock system so I haven't changed anything else. Once these parts wear out, I may upgrade them to aftermarket parts but it depends on the price.

      So far it has been good. I occasionally drop a chain, but not often. Since it is metal you do want to be more careful of not dropping it or it will possible bend (unlike plastic).

      Chinese based A.E. also sells H&H parts from several bike shops to be selected. I normally buy parts for my Brompton from China and lately a lighter standard lenght and - shape, 535 mm black seat post from titanium (very sturdy, and not inexpensive feeling!) for a price about the same as an original, similar standard Brompton pin from aluminum.
