    I think stepping up to an actual log manifold or high flow cast manifold like this is very beneficial when talking about the 1000hp mark. No doubt these are better than stock! Wish I had the chance to run RDL log headers and up pipes before I sold my LB7

    I worked at a machine shop that made high end parts for water and oil valves and one of the blasters we used was a hand blaster. We used aluminum oxcide sand and it looks like you need to adjust the amount of sand to air ratio. Should be an adjustment valve to allow more sand in the hose. And 90lbs of air was the sweet spot. They work well once dialed in

    I'm sure other youtubers out there do their own work, but you're one of the only people that I've seen do your own work. I love it when you get a new toy in the shop, like the sand blaster and then do your own powder coating. This is the channel that us duramax owners want and need. I can't say how many countless times I've watched your videos since getting my lb7 in 2019. I thought it was really cool to see you doing your rockers, but I'm not sure I'm up to that task yet lol. Thanks to you, I was able to do my head gaskets and all that good stuff. You inspire me to eventually dump $40,000 into my duramax and not have any regrets 🤣👍
    My opinion on the turbo: I would say try the 9 blade out until you decide to strip the LBZ down. 🤣

    Awesome….. love to see the progress. I bought my set of PPE’s manifolds couple years ago. But Those HSP manifolds look cool. I think they both will keep the EGTs down. I want the 9 blade now (my wife said “ thanks” btw) 🤷‍♂️ I do like the sound, but I also live next to the 3 biggest green planet worshipers on the Earth. They grimace and stare at me when I fire up “big red”. It would make me smile from ear to ear if I could add a very loud whistle to it. 👍
    Prior to knowing about Ryan’s diesel service I bought a stealth 64mm and I believe there is 11 blades from calibrated. Going to have to call him to see if he can modify mine.
    Keep up the good work 👍. God bless.

    You need a bigger diameter air line for that cabinet .how I did mine is I plugged in on the wall 1 inch PEX in the shop and then I came off that with a half inch line to my cabinet seems to work pretty good you need more volume than you do pressure

    Love your videos! Off topic, but I wonder if you'd consider doing a video describing the top 5 things an owner can do to improve reliability and longevity for a duramax, by model. My 2012 LML has just under 200k miles, and given the cost of a new one, I need to keep this one as long as possible. Aside from the obvious, like fluids, filters, etc, what do you recommend?

  • @repairvehicle

    Low egts is not best for performance, turbo needs high heat to spool up otherwise a lot of energy being wasted. There’s a reason why turbo blankets exist, high heat is needed.

  • @FarmerSteveO

    Not that I'm pressuring you, after all, what's one more iron in the fire.... GO 9 Blade and maybe try a 66 compressor vs. a 10 blade 68 and see what happens. Curious what Ryan thinks. It will be a great experiment. I'm still smiling on that mega whistle of the beards!
    As for the HF blast cabinet, I see you did the bottom feed meter system. And it looks like a 3/8" line inside the cabinet to the gun. I Upgraded my gun to a Scat Blast 'medium' with a carbide tip. The upgrade is totally worth the money. I am running aluminum oxide blasting medium, and it just takes some small adjusting on the ball valve on the meter system and it is so smooth and a savage blasting cabinet now! Some other suggestions, I see you also upgraded the lighting. I tightly wrapped the grate inside with screen door screen, then put a big metal plate down to blast against. I was getting bigger paint flakes going down in the medium, then getting sucked up and plugging the venturi of the gun. Took me awhile to figure it out, but all good now. Finally, get or make a cyclone dust collector with a 5 gal. bucket and hook to the shop vacuum. It is so nice to see when goin' all Earl blastin' on them parts!

    • @jeffhamann4350
      @jeffhamann4350 Рік тому

      I got the same blaster and upgraded mine as well. Totally worth it. Did a lot of sandblasting this last summer. I was changing out glass like crazy. The manufactures design is horrible so I modified it using toggle clamps. It used to take me 20 minutes swapping out for a cleaner glass (frustrating) but now it takes me less than 2 minutes. One of the best upgrades I ever did. if we could post pictures here, I would share it.

    For that blaster: aluminum oxide works good for parts with paint and rust. Glass bead, which is what you have in there, works good for cleaning up stained aluminum and makes a soft clean finish. Also, let me know if you want to sell that Fluidamper balancer off the stock motor lol

As a lot of people and forums say they are all essentially the same (PPE, Profab) and now I’m assuming HSP will be the same? So top 3 are PPE, HSP, Profab. less turbulence is the main reasoning any other assentive one may have the others don’t?

    Alright I was going to say keep the ten blade. But Mrs Truckmaster said go for it and try the 9. Can't argue with her. On a separate note. Your last post on air filter elimates. You reminded me of something. If your EGT's start to rise check you air filter. If it is dirty it will cause the temperature to rise. Another advantage to a good cold air intake. Those manifolds look great. Try a different media if that is not working when you get air correct. Use some heavy clear plastic on the inside of the glass to keep from blasting the actual window.
    Everything is coming along great. Keep the posts coming... stay warm..ughh...

    Not sure what sand you're using, but don't use play sand. It'll work, but if you get sand that's made for blasting, things will go much faster. Personally, I use Black Diamond #FTS245. It's a medium grit and works great! Runs about $12 per 50lb bag. You can get courser grit but risk warping thinner material items.
    Also, make sure you have both enough pressure AND cfm from the air compressor to handle it. A lot of people only look at the PSI that the compressor is able to make but you have to also look at the CFM the compressor is putting out at each PSI level.
    The dryer you can make the air the better it will be as well. Water in a sand blaster makes for a bad day. A very bad day.

  • @35057
    @35057 Рік тому

    Watch what media size you are using. Stripping or fine cleaning. Also with siphon feed, that Venturi will get clogged at times. And don’t over fill the media tank at the bottom. The weight will almost prevent it from feeding. Sometimes, pull the suction “hose” up from the bottom, close the lid and hold the blast nozzle hard against the wall inside and hit the pedal. It will blow the clog out and back down thru the suction hose. If it doesn’t, then it’s clogged good. Open the lid and blow the clog out the way it came in with a blow gun. Also play with the feed PSI. I think 90 worked good or maybe less. I don’t remember exactly. More isn’t always better.

    I’m a Fan of the Manifolds and Up-pipes , but not my cup of tea for the extra noise from the 9 blade turbo from previous video . Just my 2 cents ….. as to What Melanie charges to work per hour , all I have to say is “ If you have to ask , then you probably cannot afford it” as they say 😏😉😆👍. If she’s anything like my wife we are DAMN LUCKY they put up with us in the first place Josh …. 🤞. One more thing on your blast cabinet , they use a shit -ton of air ( volume ) to work correctly , so two things to consider is whether your current compressor is sized large enough to supply the demand , and second , your size of air line feeding the cabinet should be as big as you can make it all the way to cabinet air hose connection point . Pressure & flow are 2 different things entirely, Decrease flow & in most cases pressure ( or back pressure if you will ) goes UP , increase diameter to increase flow & pressure will go DOWN ( normally ) . The company I currently work for Sells and installs air compressors and we always try to run the largest sized tubing and fittings from pumps to whatever piece or pieces of equipment are being used by the compressor. That will allow you to hopefully have the volume of air stay consistent from time you begin the need for air until you end the need without losing pressure at equipment. Look into your cabinets required sizing on compressor they recommend and possibly line ( hose or pipe INSIDE diameters) and plumb accordingly, that’s my best advice …. See ya .

    …. Upgrade your suction hose to 1/2”. Take the gun apart and try to round off any sharp edges in the gun body - behind the ceramic nozzle (I used my Dremel with small barrel and 120 grit paper. Add a small air dryer/filter on the outside of the unit. That keeps the media a little dryer in the summertime.
    Remove all of the screws that hold the glass down and replace them with adjustable toggle clamps. (Amazon). Changing out glass is so much faster.
    I couldn’t really tell but it looks like you haven’t upgraded your shop compressor with a radiator. This will remove 80% of the moisture out of the tank and no condensation in the lines. Painting is better, sandblasting and makes the pneumatic tools last longer.
    If you really get a wild hair…….
    add a medium shop Vac on the left side. Drop by the big box store and hit the plumbing aisle…. 2” Rubber plumbing cap and 2 inch drain waste pipe and 1 elbow. pass by the shop vac adapters and get some thing that fits. Then go by Harbor freight and pick up a 5 gallon bucket and cyclone dust separator. Install that between the sandblasting cabinet and the vacuum.
    You may not touch the heavens or see unicorns, but it’ll make your sandblasting and painting experience much more pleasant. 👍
