I feel like people forget that when all the grim fairytales were created about listening to your parents and not going wandering in the woods, it was a time when going into the woods could literally end with you being eaten by a predator. It wasn't a good time for small children to be adventurous.
In a lot of places it still is! Never go alone (always have an adult you trust with you), always bring proper protection whether it's bug spray, SPF sunscreen or extra water and don't touch any plants unless you know what they are.
I'm a fully grown adult and I'm not allowed to go into the woods behind my parents' house without someone else. There's still plenty of danger in the woods!
The singing at 21:00 is called kulning, and is a traditional cattle call. It can be heard for miles and miles! Perfect for when the animals are out in the forests and hills during summertime - on the fäbodvall :) (ah, and just as I finished typing, the chat explained it as well~)
And if you want some exquisite examples of kulning, I will never pass up the chance to recommend Heilung: legendary neo-folk-metal group that focuses on what they call "amplified history." Maria's voice is _enchanting._
Every time there's an animal getting even a little bit hurt in any type of media my partner makes up a story about how that particular animal is now living their best life after doing some really good acting. Those stories are now canon in my head.
If anyone is curious about the second half of this game; it gets 10x darker and more graphic from this point on. Be careful if you want to check it out any further !
Things you don't expect on an SSS stream: Seeing an adorable innocent child getting *annihilated* repeatedly. It was so awful, instant and unexpected I couldn't help but laugh from shock.
Hello! A Finn here. The song at 1:22:10 is actually something Finnish and Swedish schools will sing at the spring ceremony when school ends for summer break. It is called the "Summer Hymn" and, you guessed it, it celebrates summer. Here are the most accurate English lyrics I can find for this beautiful song. Finnish name: Suvivirsi Swedish: Den blomerstid nu kommer Now the cherished time has come And sweet summer is here Every place is beautifully adorned With a flower Now we receive the blessing Of the warming sun It rejuvenates natures And summons it to life Once more the fields are verdant And the crops grow in the valley Thee trees in the forest are humming Cloaked in leaves It reminds us Of your goodness, God It declares your miracles Year after year Once more the birds Chirp their pretty songs Shouldn't the Lord's people Also thank their maker Let my spirit join In the choir of your voice And thank the Lord of grace For he is merciful
The fiddler is known as the Näcken but also is known as the Nixie or the Nøkk or numerous other names that all begin with N. He shares those names with several other water creatures in Celtic, Germanic, and Scandinavian folklore. Most notably, shapeshifting water spirits that take the form of horses and drown anyone that tries to ride them. If you’ve seen Frozen 2, you’ve seen this other depiction
Feels worth pointing out that the literal translation of Näcken to English would probably be something like Nude-y. Wonder why they never go for that...
@@bishop1412 Do you mean kelpy, because if so, why do you need to be careful? Nevermind. Just realized you mean specifically Nokk (don't have an international keyboard), and saying that with a k.
as a norwegian i love to see the nordic lore here! in my elementary school people said that if you sat on the toilet for too long nøkken would show up and drown you through the toilet, and i genuinely believed it for some time lmao
I don’t know if anyone else already commented this but the character we saw named Tuva is actually a creative paraphrase of a painting by the Swedish artist named John Bauer. He made all these fantasy-motifs that are heavy with Nordic lore and mystical forests. Really recommend to look him up! It was really cool to see as a Swede who grew up with all of these stories of Näcken, trolls and the art of Bauer.
Near the beginning, Julia mentioned Cinema Therapy and if it's the channel I think it is then I really recommend watching it. It's a couple of guys one of which is a family therapist, and the other a filmmaker, and the two talk about how different psychological and social things are done in movies, as well as stuff like how the animation or shots help with that. They're also both dads so it's filled with dad jokes.
As a mentally ill cinema fan, I highly recommend. They're not always 100% on the money with every take, but they actively listen and grow and correct themselves. They have an ongoing series about DID because of how heavily (and grossly) it's used in media compared t how little it's understood outside of it. Including episodes about Gollum, Split, and Moon Knight, Moon Knight being one of the best representations of DID I've ever seen, which they introduced me to!
1:03:21 They didnt notice the first gnome getting bear trapped LMao. But also I have never laughed so hard for what happens in the next 3 minutes. I have watched Bramble in so many streams but J and J are the first to somehow make this gruesome game so funny XD
but hey at least we’re not a small person running away from multiple trolls attempting to cook us or eat us! being a tiny guy sure has its ups and downs
I have two hedgehogs, and while they certainly don't love swimming, the animation on the nose being held upward while in water is very accurate (as is the suddenness of how they ball up). Also, we recently lost one of our previous hedgehogs, so seeing the little cart-puller hog passed away did tug at my heartstrings.

i’m wondering if the textures and assets in this game were made using macrophotography? they look SO lifelike and i’ve learned more recently that there’s a lot of unreal engine packs that use macro assets to create lifelike wilderness scenes which is quite genius. for a game like this, that super high-res texturing works perfectly when you’re playing as a small character in a fairly realistic looking setting!
I watched Hereditary recently and a dog shows up in the first scene and even though I wanted to avoid spoilers, I just thought to myself "OHHHHH NOOOOO!" Luckily the dog does not die

i was looking at the warnings and saw GNOME DEATHS. GNOME DEATH *S* PLURAL
1:32:11 Jacob channels York
57:45 oh shiiiiiiiiiii! I did not see that coming, and I laughed so hard, which is truly messed up. (It's violent, btw.)
21:35 that sounds exactly like Myrkur, see _Tor i Helheim_ for example :)
I remember seeing this from IronPineapple for soulslikes and man, I was not really expecting that level of whiplash of wholesome to dark even with seeing the demo.
Very cool game! I didn’t want to have to pause! I look forward to you continuing it
This game is so good, but so dark. I was shocked how far it went when I first played it.
The Big Gnome references starting near 54:23 made me so happy!!
Thank you for this! For the life of me, I couldn’t place where that reference was from and it’s been bothering me ever since. The Drawfee Variety Hour was a fever dream
21:15 dang that was a good shot
Also Tula is gorgeous
I had probably the worst week of my life, but I want you to know that you both cheer me up so much and make me smile. Thank you.
“WEEEEEEEE- ooohhh…” this game in a nutshell
How dare you call it the intro and not the prebramble /j
Excellent work as always Kaz!
Ah, my first stream I got to see live! I was so excited to see Jacob and Julia play through my childhood nightmares :)
ah yes that classic quintsta tandasticker (sometimes known as svenska tändstickor)
The gameplay in this game looks exactly like little nightmares gameplay. I can't believe people werent immediately recognizing that.
Edit: of course right after I comment I hit the part where Julia said it lol drawfee on point as always
The little pinecone guys reminded me of the pinecone pig from Fear and Hunger, which means I immediately loved them and would die for them
i love jacob and julia! so excited to see this game!!!!
I don't know about sleep but I do sort of trance out getting a tattoo, I've learned that if I bring a podcast to listen to while it's going that I should bring something I've listened to before and won't worry about missing stuff because I definitely will sort of come to awareness and realize I've just lost time even though I was awake and present the whole way...
Julia when "franceinyourpants" 👁👄👁
If the art is stunning in the beautiful forest, it's only natural that it will be enough to make me wrech in the Meat Pond
I knew you two would love this game! It has some great little guys and the horrors!!
So glad they mentioned does the dog die!! I have pstd but love horror movies and i use it ALL the time.
42:25 No TV or Radio, staring down wells was the closest neurodivergents could get to free entertainment. Heck, I would do it right now!
I AM BEGGING ON MY KNEES, please keep playing this game im loving it so much so far :))))
i’m wondering if the textures and assets in this game were made using macrophotography? they look SO lifelike and i’ve learned more recently that there’s a lot of unreal engine packs that use macro assets to create lifelike wilderness scenes which is quite genius. for a game like this, that super high-res texturing works perfectly when you’re playing as a small character in a fairly realistic looking setting!

Julia looking confused by "France in your Pants" 💀
This game was so cool! Would definitely be happy to watch you guys play more of it
Man, everything in this game is so familiar. I even remember making the little pinecone guys as a kid (though not as good as these ones)
You know what they say about gnome babies with big feet? Big hats.
the art in this game look amazing, i wonder if it is ment to reference john bauer? it really looked like it at 1:51:50
Julia forgetting the Offspring Crazy Taxi song after permanently imprinting it on my brain folds for years feels like a betrayal 😂
as a scandinavian i recognise a trangia when i see one, at a glance at 11:16
regarding the glowing rock sound: I think it kinda sounded like the plorts tinkling around in Slime Rancher
I watched Hereditary recently and a dog shows up in the first scene and even though I wanted to avoid spoilers, I just thought to myself "OHHHHH NOOOOO!" Luckily the dog does not die
Coming here to calm myself after another Playstation Showcase with no Bloodborne news lmao. Thank god this vod is here to save the night :)
