In this video 3 most commonly used hydraulic turbines, Pelton, Francis & Kaplan are compared on the basis of their working principle and usability. Working of Hydro turbines are explained here with help of animation.
Precise and to the point explanation under 3 minutes. That's what UA-cam is made for. Excellent Work. Keep it up !
What is the high head ? Can you please explain to me.
@@FACTUAL_KEY it's when the height bw turbine and reservoir is greater than 300m
@@FACTUAL_KEY"Head" is the difference in height between top of the water at the intake and the outlet from the turbine.
Basically the "falling height" of water doing the work on turbines.
Source or study related literature?
I'm glad I found this. Now, thirty five years after installing Francis type turbines in a dam, I know why they used them.
what was the head and flow rate? remember?
@@celcorsystems1890 Head is the amount of water above a turbine. Flow rate is more complicated so I recommend watching a vid on that.
Thanks, I'll store that in my favorites incase I ever need this knowledge!
My long day confusion and doubt is cleared by this 3 minute video. GREAT EXPLANATION
Excellent and very informative video presentation. Thanks a ton! Please also mention the range of head and flow rate along with the graphs as those graphs represent the efficiency profile of these turbines at varying conditions..
Tangential flow also called radial flow which means water flow perpendicular with the axis of turbine rotation
ben detto
Clear and precise explanation
Clear explanation thank you
Thnks for such a informative animated knowledge of use of turbines

This must be the most dumbed down version of this topic.
Kaplan turbines can be used in several applications. Francis turbines are used because they are CHEAP. Kaplan turbines with their adjustable pitch can almost be as efficient as a Pelton turbine. The Francis will never come close but can be installed and run cheaply. That's why there are so many of them, mainly in China, India and other undeveloped countries. The Francis is the oldest and least efficient of the three.
Interesting , I assume that this is also applicable to gases as well . So most fans are axial as are wind turbines (horizontal axis) and fans that develop higher pressure are listed as mixed flow (like a pump) .
great educational video,thanks,.
we manufacture electronic load controller of small pelton turbines(1-5kw)
How's the business going on?
flow rate = Power/efficiency*water density*specific gravity*head
*if the problem is to choose what type of turbine to use
*but efficiency is not given, does it mean efficiency is neglected and cancel out?
*to determine what type of turbine you need H= head and M = flow rate to graph/plot
Very informative, thanks!
Excellent!
One Francis turbine in Itaipu Hydroeletric Power Plant in Brazil produce 971000 hp. There are 20 turbines in the plant.
And?
You earned my respect ❤️
good one .i really appriciate your effort. Plz upload more video.
simple and useful...
Exactly what I wanted. thanks
Hi great video by the way ! May I ask for permission of how did you find articles of those graph for our research purposes
It was very helpful. Thanks for uploading👍
Kaplan turbines can also be installed in lower flow rates close to only 1 m3/s
who asked?
@@daybyday3840 false information in the vid
Didnt ask still. @@Mike-kr5dn
Super good video.
Excellent
How much is this in dollars? The design ... can address the company and know its specifications .. yet it generates electricity and does it have sizes. ... thank you very much ....
Nice sir
Make video on water boiler working
Ma come capire che dimensioni saranno le turbine? A esempio, per produzioni di 150 kw che dimensioni dovrà avere una turbina Pelton?
Muy clara la explicación, muy bueno el vídeo.!
very well explained thanks
thank you it was helpful
Che dimensioni hanno le turbine Pelton per produzioni di 150 kw?
What would happen if we used Kaplan at a high head high flow rate versus low head and high flow?
I'd you do so you have Mitch TOO FAR mitch less efficency. And if you have less efficency means you have less power compared on what you could get = less money. They are going to scold you lol 😂😂😂😂😂😂
Great video!
Thanks
Does the section of the Francis turbine schaft need to be elliptical? I wonder why such a genius would have prefered this to a circula one
great job
Plz make also on back pressure steam turbine
Thank you :)
Excelente!
Well done
very helpful
Is there a small size that produces 5 megabytes ... or one megabyte? How much does a cubic meter of water need per second ... and how much is it worth in dollars ...
good job
great job....

gr8 video.....can u pls tell me...... with which software u made this animation
thanks for this one...
nice video
A.I technology will improve the design of turbines that we will only need one for all types of flows and liquid density/pressure.
Thanks sir
What means freaction?
like! easy way to know about them!
I honestly don't see where is the reaction force and the airfoil in the kaplan turbine, it looks pretty much like simple tangential force to me ...
imo, the shape and orientation of the vanes result in upper and lower zones of energy conversion. the lower more-curved part of the vanes converts reaction force, as the water tries to fall 'straight' down (what a kaplan does). cheers
Thank u very much
but the flow rate is directly propotional to velocity. how can pelton turbine have low flow rate and high velocty of water?
It can't. This is simply a very dumbed down video, and in reality a pretty useless video.
What is Ns in speed graf?
Informative
hi, pls do an working system of mechanical engines,,, and how that engines power can run the wheel explain in full detail. thank you.
Nice
When there is less water head available how can it discharge more water? If we need more water for example for Kaplan turbine
If you have a large water source able to fill large pipes then you can have more water flowing, even though the head might be only small.
Could we connect this 3 turbines first turbine generates electricity the kinetic energy is lower and then a better one
No.

nice work to unerstanding
What about compared to a Tesla turbine?
awesome
nice vids.
thannks fir clear conceppt
great
short and brief
Good👍
what are the discharge rates of turbines
How on earth do you expect anyone to answer that without any other info?
Great. .
thankyou
A distinction must be made between a Pelton, Kaplan or Francis turbine.
You don't build a water turbine as shown here.
The efficiency of this plant will be very poor.
Why are there no multi stage turbines ??
Answer the tech is available from RDP MARINE AUSTRALIA
The techs will say the issues are turbine surging OR to much backpressure OR the dissolved gasses issue ALL are nonstarters
So were is the price drop you can have by fitting this item ?? YES YOU KNOW WHY

good ..
Sir aaa njan kandu
and you didn't even mention Tesla turbine because...?
+GPC™
The Tesla Turbine is a gas (air, steam) turbine,
The turbines shown here are water driven turbines.
Actually that is not true - the Tesla Turbine can and has been used with water in many applications, however most often as a pump.
It is a pump.
Ufff

we can produce endless amount of energy and clean water by electrolysis of sea water then take the hydrogen alone to high altitude where we combine it with atmospheric oxygen and drop the water on hydraulic generator from this high altitude as in dams
Interesting idea, but where do you get the power for the electrolysis from?
can not happen because electrolysis is only 60-75% efficiency.
unless you do this at high temperature sea from volcanic ocean but still not practical for massive production
valeuuuuu
