You should , if you can get enough water pressure on a turbine (plenty of online calculators are available) , preferably using just elevation difference. Of course , I'm talking of very low cost , relatively simple to build and set up , DIY solution .
Flow and pressure, is flow and pressure. The source (gravity, pump, etc.) is irrelevant. As for what you're talking about... you'd be better off diverting the flow at the source, instead of using what's being pumped up... simply because there's more energy there. It would be far easier to work out a partial capture at the source, than trying to pull from a nearly depleted source.

There are a ton of ram pumps that have been in service in agricultural applications for decades, or even over a century, out of mere simplicity and their low maintenance. That being said... the easiest to have any reasonable power generation from the miniscule source of a ram pump feed, would be to use the water as a battery to fill a sizeable reservoir, with the volume at the ram pump's highest possible head reach. Without knowing how much head/pressure and flow is available, it's virtually impossible to design a proper hydropower system. Ram pumps typically don't have much pressure... so the design would almost certainly have to incorporate high-flow/low-head turbine. The style seen here, as also with pelton designs, require significant head pressure to reach reasonable efficiency. Low head turbines focus less on capturing the momentum of existing pressure, but allowing the mass of the flow itself to gather energy from gravity as it flows through the turbine. For this reason, most low head turbines are most often vertical axis... with the impeller design itself usually more akin to that of what's seen on the compressor side of a turbo charger. Designs based on archimedes screw are also quite common for low-head turbines. While simple and fairly low maintenance, they're not particularly efficient.

The whole week i have been obsessed with hydro power and you always deliver. Have you done a video on vortex turbines for low head high flow power yet?
Turgo turbine made out of plastic spoons is , to me , more useful for testing (like proof of concept) , than to actual use for pico hydro energy production. Stainless spoons are much better and , with some preparation , those doesn't have to be welded. For an example , one can bend handles of all of the spoons at (let's say) 90 degrees angle and then cut them , leaving just like 2 mm of bent part. At the end of every 30 degrees cut to circular base (which can be achieved with very simple jig) , you can drill a 3-4 mm hole , at the end of each cut , which will keep spoons from falling out , do to a centrifugal force and you can secure it with epoxy glue and/or some short screw. Getting it balanced and obtaining water pressure is different problem (I mean in low cost , DIY builds).
As I was watching this, it struck me that the water leaving the spoons still has a lot of force left in it. So I wondered if this could be collected by a spinning shell that surrounds the wheel to harness extra energy. The shell could have mirrored spoons attached like an inverted version of the center wheel.
I have seen pictures of multi stage pelton turbines where the output of the first set of rotating blades go into a fixed set of blades which reverses the stream for when it hits a second set of rotating blades on the same shaft and they just keep adding stages until they feel that they got all the energy they can out of it like in a steam powered plant. I was just wondering if a similar would work here.

Boilers above hobby use are regulated and inspected for a reason in many countries. When things go wrong, they go wrong spectacularly and potentially for third parties too. Blondihacks has shown some very good boiler building on her channel, and has just finished one that got inspected and passed. I recommend starting there, or with a model club near you.

clamp the metal spoons between 2 round metal disks with indents every 10 degrees, then twist bend the stem of each spoon to correct angle 20-30 angle, use metal spoons, no welding.. then they are easily replaceable too.. use for solar to steam generators too is solar to steam powered water pump also possible too? is a solar panel to electric steam generator possible too?..
Hmmm. Cut 36 slots with a bandsaw / handsaw / copping saw / jig saw into the plastic hub. Glue 36 cut spoon handles into the 36 slots cut into the plastic hub to add strength.Leave the tea spoon handles long when strongly slot seated so that the hub shaft will generate more torque do to a larger fulcrum point.. Hmmm
I wonder why they recommend cutting off the shafts (assuming an ideal world where no spoons are bent). Doing so reduces the torque that one can obtain from the given water jet, but does reduce size. I appreciate that you've welded the spoons rather than tightening them with nuts and bolts, otherwise things might go flying at high RPM. Cheers from South Africa mate.

Rob, how about turgo cast from concrete containing graphene and soaked in water glass. Could add glass fibre or synthetic fibre for extra strengh - this is another of your videos going into my archive......as always brilliant, inspirational and most of all fun! I have a stream next to my house and there an enough energy to run 5 houses. There's a download on the internet on how to do the calcs for building one of these based on the flow and drop in water.

I'm doing something like that... but with 2 stepper motors, one on each side of the shaft, do you think I would need bearings in the same way? Or could I avoid using them since they are expensive and even more so the waterproof ones?
if you want something long term you need to engineer for that mate - what i built was just a demo - water will get everywhere and pretty quickly rust things up unless you do something about it - so water proof bearings, lot's of grease, seals, chain drives are all good options - it really depends what you want to do and what situation you are in and how long you want it to last

I would argue that this is not the most effective water turbine. This is just a play on a modern hydroelectric turbine which runs at about a 60% gathering total energy from the water. Where as if you use a Tesla turbine you could get as high as 70 or 80%. This was not used in modern manufacturing due to the size of the blades that you would need to run the turbine at the RPMs that they would have to spin the blades would break up. I would argue that with modern technology in advances and metal, we can make this turbine efficient and effective again. Imagine if we could make a small version that fits on your local stream and gathers energy from a source that has been previously overlooked due to inefficiency in turbines. Instead of having large industrial dams and complexes, you could have your own personal power station in your backyard. Someday I would hope to build one of these out of modern materials that you could find out of junkyard. I plan on using old diamond blades as the disc being as they are already rated for a high RPM. Just saying those are my thoughts. Maybe really cool if you could try to build something or do a video like that. The government does shut down programs that try to make Tesla turbines so be warned. If you have a turbine that runs at 80% efficiency, then there's no need for repairs or replacement parts. Then you don't have an industry and they can't profit off it. They needed to break and run less efficient so that people can have jobs.
