Wanna start learning heavy bowgun. Got any tips for someone who hasnt played a gunner before?
learn how to craft ammo on the fly. do it by putting the crafting recipes on your radial menu and save those to your item load outs for each gun (yup, gotta make a new loadout per gun.). honestly, the hardest part of gunning is the prep work, it’s pretty easy once you get the hang of you ammo management. generally you will focus on one ammo type per gun as your main source of dmg.even tho each gun has a lot of options, don’t think you’ll be using all of them on each hunt. also your status ammo works differently than weapon statuses in that each shot will always apply status, so nothing is wasted there either, but they are only for when you wanna apply that status as they only do 1 or 2 dmg per shot.
as far as how each specific ammo and critical distances work and all that, there are plenty of guide vids on youtube that are all pretty good. if you aren’t used to slow moving weapons like greatsword or the lances, i might recommend the lbg over the hbg first, as you only slow walk with the hbg. the lbg in Rise/Sunbreak is kind of a beast, so don’t think you’re missing out on damage or anything.
oh, and dragon ammo is just weird. 🤷♂️

While it’s true you don’t have the same flashy combos that other weapons have with ranged weapons, you’re fragile as hell and have to deal with the fact that if you’re worth your weight as a gunner, ur gonna be the source of aggro a good chunk of the time.
Ranged weapons is about being strategic and thoughtful. You have to plan out your moves and position ahead of time. It’s not a brainless weapon. None of the ranged weapons are
