I am 100% model railroader and railfan in New Jersey for almost 60 years but have come to appreciate the rail/marine around Duluth. This channel was linked in my FB feed. Truly top quality video work. Thanks for posting.
A wonderful video as is usual for you! I look forward to all of them as the fleet comes in for the winter. The night view of the the Burns Harbor was amazing. Thank you!!
Happy new year Kevin! I couldn’t agree more with the other comments about the quality of your videos, it makes it such a joy to watch. Thank you and am excited to see the next one! Btw, I am driving to the Soo Locks in a couple days, never been there.
Another fantastic video! This channel should have a million+ subscribers - you take such care with your cinematography, music selection, and narration.
Glad to see you back Kevin, congrats on the new drone, im guessing the new "Air 3," the Frontenac is a favorite of mine , got several drone shots of it myself here in Windsor as she has unloaded here several times this past summer. looking forward to more of your layup videos.
And now the latest motion feature film from Kevin O'Donnell Productions, "A Man and his Dinghy". As long as you can keep a horizon in sight, flying is easy.... been doing it for 46 years but who's counting lol. Spectacular footage as always, such a treat to see the Frontenac in town.
You are looking chipper! Your procedures must have been successful! Thank you for sharing the stories of both ships. I wonder if the Burns Harbor is in her annual inspection or maybe needs a good mechanical overhaul. I love seeing these ships out of the water. The shapes of their hulls intrigue me. It is interesting how they get towed backwards to get in dock. I love the drone footage, a seagulls view on the activities below. Thank you once again, and have a Happy New Year!
As always, an excellent video with historical value as well as entertainment! Speaking of excellent….. my Christmas Eve guests had your book in their laps for quite a long time! A great way for them to relax and drink that eggnog! 🤭
Awesome I was hoping you would have a winter layup video coming soon thanks. I love chasing boats in Duluth, two harbors, Silver Bay and superior Wisconsin. I really need to check out a winter layup in Sturgeon Bay but for now I live through your videos thanks again.
Beautiful night drone shots! I may need to consider getting a drone if night video is now a viable option. The Frontenac is my favorite CSL ship. At 729’ (and change) she is basically the same length as the Edmund Fitzgerald was. Small correction… the maximum Seaway length is 740’ instead of 730’… but that’s nitpicking. 😉 Looking forward to more layup videos!
Thank you 1L2S, I appreciate that! I agree, the Frontenac is a beauty. I love your videos and never miss one! Your night videos of arrivals (and departures) at Duluth with all that beautiful lighting is what inspired me to get a low light level drone. I watch sometimes as you reset the camera and think rather than having to do a cross-over fade because of repositioning your video camera; have you ever thought of purchasing a fluid head? I think it would add wonderfully to the overall experience of actually being there. I'm hoping to get some footage in Green Bay soon before the river freezes over. I'm waiting on the Alpena for that entry - my number 1 favorite. Thanks for the info on Seaway max length. Looking forward to your next!
@@KODOPhoto Thanks Kevin! I have made attempts in the past to use a fluid head to pan as the ship passes by. Unfortunately I haven’t been blessed with a very steady hand, so the result has almost always been a jerky movement . But maybe I’m too much of a perfectionist and what I think of as jerkiness others might not notice as much. Either way, I need to find a better solution as I would love to include smooth motion in my videos as an alternative to always using the same edits. Maybe that can be my New Year’s resolution!
Thanks for the early morning efforts! Any idea on why the boats keep going around instead of coming in thru the canal? Seems like fewer come in from or go out to the lake.
While Green Bay remains unfrozen, it may be easier than running the gauntlet of the bridges, which also screws up street traffic in Sturgeon Bay for a long time.
Yes. I am working on editing that video now. They are working on her rudder / prop now. Scheduled to go back out Video will be posted in a couple of days. Stay tuned.
Any vessel carries her own flag at the stern. A foreign vessel carries the flag of the host nation from her starboard spreader after clearing customs. This is sometimes called a "courtesy flag".
She is a Canadian flagged vessel, so she flies the flag of Canada at her stern, . The American flag up forward in a courtesy and acknowledgement that she is sailing in American waters. Vessels world wide do this, regardless of their country of registration.
Thanks! Yes, I sell prints. You can check them out at my website kevinodonnell.photography. If there is one you'd like that is not on the site just email me at: kodophoto55@gmail.com with any special requests. Thanks!

I agree 100%.
Yes, this channel is criminally under-appreciated. It should be much bigger.
Great video to start the layup season. I have yet to see the list released.

Another great video. Love your new drone with low light capabilities. Thank you. Happy New Year !
Thanks! Happy New Year!
Love seeing the Front. Hauled a lot of taconite between Marquette and Algoma Steel in the Soo.
A reliable and powerful boat in the spring ice.
She is a classic!
Great drone work, stay frosty my friend.
Thank you, I appreciate it!
You are the best! Passing a link to my brother.

Thanks Kevin, as always a great production. I am still very much enjoying the deluxe version of your book.
I am glad you are enjoying the book!

That’s wonderful! A perfect combination!
I've been wanting for behind the door 😊

Word has it that the Paul Tregurtha will wintering in Sturgeon Bay for its inspection
Brilliant!
well done
It would be awesome if they could use the ship canal again. Due to very low water levels sadly they can’t.
Insightful and picturesque…many thanks…any up coming Spring Book signing events? THX..
Thank you! Nothing on the calendar yet but I'll keep you posted!
Hope to see you in SpringTime and look forward for your upcoming Vlogs…

I wonder if dry dock means some work being done and why did the Front come there? Beautiful drone work and narration.
Burns Harbor having it required inspection so needs to be drydocked
I recall Mesabi limping into Sturgeon Bay also days ago for some reason. No info on what happened after that. Anybody know?
Yes. I am working on editing that video now. They are working on her rudder / prop now. Scheduled to go back out Video will be posted in a couple of days. Stay tuned.
I love these videos!😁,,,Why is she flying the Canadian flag on the stern and the USA on the bow?
Good question! Maybe @S4WYERonPC can answer that.
