I opened my eyes this morning, and the first thought in my head was, "Thank you, God, for 19 days free!' I'm so excited I've done this after so many years of a wine habit. I woke up the other night with great thirst, and in my drowsy state, as I reached for the water, I thought I had drank again, which always made me wake up very very thirsty. I quickly realized it was just thirst! I never ever want those side effects of even one glass of that poison.
Yeah I'm on day 6 and been having strange dreams. When I go to bed i put a glass of water on my nightstand. Well last night I was dreaming it was my vodka Oj. When I reached for it I was jarred awake. Been taking Campral really helps with the cravings. Happy new year.
Best I’ve done is 9 months, always relapsing. I get over confident and think I’ll be able to handle one or to only. I’m in my 40s now, wish I never started drinking this poison of life.
This is very encouraging thank you so much. I’m tired of binging moments and my run encounters with the law. I love working out, I love discovering good nutritional meals. I want my Heavenly Father as well as my earthly family to be proud of me and trust me with spiritual blessings. I will continue to seek peace and healthier ways to live.
What a fantastic video. I’ve been drinking a bottle of wine a day during this stay at home nonsense. I simply am not going to tolerate it anymore. I’ve made up my mind come and I’m going to try again, it’s a new month tomorrow, and your video has given me great strength. I’ve done 60 day alcohol free in the past and I will do it again. That is, with some prayers and dedication! Best wishes to you...
I’ve been down bad a 12 pack a night for so long I don’t remember the last time I went to bed sober after watching this I plan on making plans and making better decisions starting tomorrow
Going to the gym was so important to my recovery from PAWS and my mental recovery that it is hard to put into words. To anyone reading this: if you have not tried this habit of hitting the gym to recover from alcohol addiction, please please try it. For me was 6x a week religiously plus eating a decently clean diet. No rocket science just decently clean non processed food (chicken, turkey, vegetables, sweet potatoes etc). The gym alone can be damn near a 'miracle' to get you mentally and physically stabilized. As long as you firmly understand that, while getting drunk can give you some relied in minutes, the much GREATER mental relief from exercise will take a few months to really start snowballing. After 4 months I felt about 30x better than before
@@cindycares2 pray in the morning for Jesus to resource you to not drink that day and pray your thanks before going to sleep. You may be surprised at what starts to happen in your life. Do it every day in earnest. Peace be with you.
RED MEAT you forgot. Nutrition wise MUCH bigger than old poor chicken. Zinc and all that, just vastly better. Read a little on the comparison, it's worth it. Great comment on the exercise man... I'm doing the same and the experience of it can't be stated enough. I recall a renowned physician (or of that sort) saying ''Since knowing the benefits of sports and exercise, if it could have been sold in pill-form it would be the best sold medicine ever''. Keep it up ;)
Interesting what you say because I've been extremely surprised by the effects of doing some exercise after heavy drinking/-some drugs, and have almost never heard anyone state the exact same as I did. You're the first I see pressing this fact. The health care practitioners/professionals I have seen in my life just couldn't grasp it (by their experience, or maybe just because they can't capitalise on exercise ?! (I'm mesmerised)).
I had what you’d call an epiphany or life changing moment, whatever you want to call it Where i quit drinking. I was at my lowest point and shaken out of my alcoholism. I found so much inspiration from your videos and actual help. Im dedicated to staying alcohol free and you have honestly changed my life.
Man this dude is just PHENOMENAL. Thank You. I had to find out on my own what recovery really is. Its wanting to recover and not be dependent on a substance. Addiction is real. But re establishing our neuropathways has been negated by the scientific community and Any department dealing with addiction. Fit recovery really gets down to the truth.
This video has changed my life. I can't tell you how happy, and relieved and excited I felt after listening to this, now having a scientific, biochemical approach to getting and staying sober. It just makes so much sense! And AA just wasn't working for me, even though I'm a very spiritual person. The next day I went to amazon and ordered L glutamine, D,L phenylalanine, N acetyl cysteine, fish oil and 5-HTP and started on my amino acid repair. I'm also drinking kombucha as my new "happy hour" drink, to help repair my guts. I'm about 2 weeks in and I'm sleeping so well! And my mind feels calm and I'm so excited about all the things I get to do....my days are filled and I'm making lists of more things I want to do. I'm also 6 days in to your 10 day alcohol freedom challenge and learning alot there. I thank you SO much, Chris Scott; you're helping me change my life!
I was a gym rat for decades and still came to excessive drinking. Only after facing what drove my drinking through discourse in AA did it loosen it's grip on me. When boredom / lazyness and financial strife were in my life simultaneously, I would often drink. Staying sober was hard work for me. If I front loaded my days off with 3-5 healthy activities, my day was more sober.
2 days into detox, I feel very happy, though some episodes of sudden fear… and sweating, my goodn’ess, it’s literally streaming out of me… it’s so encouraging to see people who went through it!
I like the emphasis on biology here. Probably the longest I've been without alcohol within the last 20 years has been 3 months. I recall, during those 3 months, that during the first week it was hell... then, next week, I felt alive again. After my 3rd week, I was literally disgusted by alcohol and felt re-born. After 3 months--the length of time I committed myself to, I was so proud of myself, and felt cured... so I said 'fuck it, I'll get drunk!' What a mistake... at that moment, I began retraining my brain to drink again. I can't even tell you how many enormous life tragedies I've encountered since then... because of alcohol.
Read into Campral; I make it three days and say fuck this I'm a god won't destroy me and boom right back in the shitter. I'm on day 7 first Friday not getting drunk in decades. I'm 53 feel pretty good; working out is key; and i mean key.
You are very clear eyed and informative. You are blessed to have dealt with your drinking so young. Im pushing 60 and have spent at least half my life lamenting my habit. Alcohol is so ... stagnating. If i could turn back the clock...
Go ahead and turn back the clock, start getting younger today.... It’s a Great Mindset. Start doing the things you haven’t accomplished, yet. REINVENT YOURSELF !!!
It is for me a chemical weight on my brain. Boredom is my reason mostly, along with family stress. Feels so good to throw the yoke off and be productive and feel good naturally. Going to start again tomorrow.
Lovely positive video. I love you. I love what your doing here and how you think. I felt for the last ten years that those 3 very important steps are critical to a successful recovery. I call it my holy grail or my trinity. . . .I have something to add after people have the 3 you mentioned under control and to maintain momentum is to just "be of service." I told myself if someone came to me and asked me for anything and if i was able to provide that service, whether it be babysitting, picking them up, helping them out with legal matters i was going to be there for them and i did, I did it without expecting anything in return. I was often asked "why are you doing this" and "you should get paid or get something in return," but i felt they are giving me something in return, they are allowing me to be of service which kept me busy, which kept me sober, which kept me happy, which made me feel worthy. I'm interested in being a coach. You have inspired me and i thank you.
Hey, I’m really surprised others haven’t upvoted your comments. I believe you are adding a most important 4th step. Get out of you’re own ego and be in service to others! Thank you…🙏🏼
Every point you made was valuable; PTSD accompanied by anxiety was what got me where I was and there is a way -- think the term is extinction -- to put an end to flash backs. Similarly, I think the untold story of people who successfully conquer alcohol addiction is that most find a different path in life than the one they thought they were stuck on, really stands out for me. Very helpful indeed! AA is heavily promoted as the only viable way to stay sober; especially in the States; what no-one mentions is that AA based rehab programs are the only ones underwritten by insurance companies. I'm not knocking AA; there is a healthy aspect to admitting that will power was irrelevant as a method of stopping, that taking responsibility for your life freed you up from feeling like a victim; the making amends part didn't always mean you were in the wrong ; sometimes it means that someone who hurt you would no longer take up space in your head. And giving up back to the community just means rejoining the human race. But it's not the only method by any means to arrive at that point of freedom and clarity. Great summation, really needed to hear that today.
Hello Chris, glad I found your site here on utube via searching 'how to quit alcohol / drinking'. Best info for me so far. 59 yr young hispanic male in Southern California (OC) started alcohol habit at 18 after first buzz at 14, but more of a pothead during high school. Been a lifelong mainly beer drinker for 40 damn yrs now. No bueno. I will begin working out again (stopped 10 yrs ago!) and using supplements indicated by your info in order to hack the pull of the drinking habit and seek out others going thru the process w/o doing AA (already looked into that a little, awhile back. Not for me...). Fellowship is a big help actually, in this case. Gonna have to find the way to quit SUGAR too! Arrrgh...haha. G'bye morning coffee w/ hazelnut creamer...! And good riddance. Sugar is toxic, been studying that as well. Gotta 'move on'. Diabetes runs in our family and I determined to stay away from that self-induced path. So thank you for what you do and what you share. Good luck and Godspeed, to us all. Cheers. J_
Chris, you have NO IDEA how much I share your links with those who wish to control or to quit intelligently. Thank you for your honestly kind intent in helping us all help ourselves. I can relate to you so easily. You’ve managed to demystify quitting and to render doing so, a palpable possibility by providing real solutions. I’ve removed the word and feeling of “victim” from my vocabulary years ago because I’ve truly dealt with past afflictions. Life is amazing. Covid?!?!?! I got THIS one. Ha ha! Continued success to you, beautiful brain!
You are a very wise man. I am following these protocols and it is definitely working. It takes work, research, trial and error, etc. But so far so good. It's been a few months. The first month totally sucked, the WHOLE first month, then I turned a corner. A lot of what keeps me going is not wanting to go through all that again. It makes the choice real damn easy.
I think the key is to have things written down. My problem in trying to quit is making a ton of bad decisions. My brain is in a constant cloud. By having decisions written down ahead of time, this should help me alot. Thank you

I will take your advice and i thank you and i will get back to you on this comment in the future to how things are going. Best wishes and thanks again. -Bob

Having a new routine of eating better, hydrating, exercising, and taking supplements is very beneficial to those seeking sobriety! There is, however, no substitute for having a vast network of people who have been in the chasm of addiction, but most importantly, know how to get out. Alcoholism is not an intellectual, or moral dilemma, it’s a fatal condition that can only be arrested by living differently. Alcoholics Anonymous is not about “not drinking”, it’s about taking “Self” out of the equation. “Self” being the root problem! Thank you for your desire to help others with your videos...Mark
These three ideas are spot on ! Great video! People don't realize how much alcohol adversely affects human cells. Human biology soon becomes dysfunctional in so many ways. Alcohol destroys nutrition. One thing I would note - there are two basic ways to get alcohol out of your life for good 1) all at once or 2) tapering. Because the pull of relapse is so strong, these alcohol neural pathways are so rutted into the brain, IMO, using a "short-term and targeted" medication like naltrexone (nalmefene in the UK) to dampen alcohols dopamine rush, significantly helps one to taper and detox slowly over a period of 6-12 months, which has huge benefits. The brain begins to heal immediately with the decreased intake. Some people see a 40% drop the first week. You don't have to do this all by yourself and all at once. Not everyone can do it that way, nor do they need to. In fact the relapse rate suggests that medical intervention can be a huge assist in getting off alcohol (the meds stop too once abstinent). There is a TEDx talk on this wonderful method "The Sinclair Method" that I highly recommend. TSM combined with the three wonderful ideas in this video is a slam dunk, IMO. If you can get abstinent without using a med great ! But the short-term use of the med can help you get there as well. In 2021, your AUD can be a thing of the past.
Surfing is such a brain light up. The first time you actually catch a wave and charge down the line, with the only thing propelling you is the energy of a wave that began its path thousands of miles away, and will terminate with you riding it as it closes out and terminates on the beach...you will be hooked. Even sitting in the line up on a early winter morning, the sites, the smell of the ocean. It’s a magical personal time. Time to reflect. Learn to surf.
I agree completely!! I used amino acids and CBD extract to restore my brain chemistry and curb cravings. I also went on a ketogenic diet because after I stopped drinking I noticed that I was addicted to sugar (carbs)
I just recently found him and WOW! How refreshing and wonderful to find someone that says something that TRULY resonates with me…and is helpful and useful. And really inspires me, to not look at alcoholism so black and white, right or wrong but something that is a behavior/habit that can be changed by replacing it with something productive that is also stimulating and maybe a physical deficiency that can be addressed along with it. And he seems sincere and realistic about it. Got to get his book! Great simple title! Drinking sucks! Yessss…it does!
Alcohol is POISON for our minds, our internal organs, our family relationships ... I don't say I am an alcoholic, I am NOT a sickness. Rather, I say "I AM SOBER" and FEEL BETTER EVERYDAY WITHOUT THE HANGOVERS!!! All the best everyone, may God Bless and Guide you!!!
Excellent points. I realized I felt the only thing I had to look forward to was drinking wine in the evening. So the neural pathway I'm trying to change is rather than looking forward to a bottle of wine in the evening, to looking forward to how good I'll feel the next day if I don't drink, or at least replace the wine with extra light beer. Goal: non-alcoholic beer or herbal tea in the evening. Switching to extra light beer has helped reduce my high blood pressure and stabilized my overall mood (I don't get as easily aggravated as I used to) and motivation to lose weight and get healthier.
This is the only reliable, knowledgeable website for informed alcohol withdrawal management from acute stage through post acute, for which I am grateful indeed. I posted elsewhere in one of your videos what I know about the preponderance of 12 step programs being recommended in rehab facilities; more in the US but Canada as well Insurance companies will only subsidize 12 step programs; it's not about spirituality, just $$$. Thank you so much for your candour and knowledge, you have no idea that you are virtually unique on the net with this information that can save people's lives.
Thank you for posting this video. These ideas sound great. I have tried to kick my habit many times over the past 3 years and keep failing. This video has restored some of my hope. First day of recovery begins today.
5:17 this was key to not over emphasise and focus on the emotional reasons for me to recover. Yes I used it to deal with people but it came down to understanding the science that gave me power to recover successfully. I treated it like a relationship breakdown and getting over it. I ofcourse did all the dietary and exercise and new hobbies. Over emphasising the emotional reasons and giving yourself an alcoholic identity is totally detrimental as it gives the alcohol power by just mentioning it.
Thank you so much for this, so much of what you are saying is what I had been thinking - it's encouraging to hear it from someone else, and not just anyone - someone who is actually making it work! Please keep doing what you're doing, this is the first thing I find to be helpful on my journey and I've looked far and wide!

My last drink was a couple weeks ago along with that I stopped taking benzodiazepines after the third day of sobriety. Stopped chewing tobacco because I don't even like it if I'm not drinking, quit eating sugar, doing intermittent fasting and keto diet, working out every other day, And started working on my business . Holy crap just writing this makes me understand why I'm freaking out a bit. But yes I agree I have to replace alcohol with so much more than what I'm already doing. I hate this drug it does nothing for me everything that it used to do it doesn't anymore it does nothing but lie to me.
I went through full blown DTs, hallucinosis for nearly two weeks. Constant seizures, insane heart rate. I didn’t sleep at all for a week solid as I was convinced I would die and these demons were going to drag me to hell. It was terrifying I’m sure I have PTSD from this. I could barely walk for a month and then ended up stuck in bed for a year. It took another year before I would be able to go to work and re start the gym etc. Absolute nightmare
I had relapses in the past and now it makes sense, --the part where you talk about how there may be something that I have not addressed and ended up relapsing causing me to never fully beat alcoholism. I need to address this big issue that I always try to ignore. I know that if i keep working to resolve this issue i'd be too busy to even think about alcohol, which would be great
Until 4 months ago I consumed 400+ drinks per month and was within 1 year of death (I had been a serious drinker for 22 years, started with daily visits to Happy Hour). Brilliant approach to a global problem. Just ordered the book. Currently going to AA meetings but couldn't get into the 12 point program, too religious and spiritual for me. This approach sounds like what I need. Will bring it up at a meeting, may not go down well but if it helps others then so be it.
I really enjoy how you explain this so comprehensively. Your exactly right, its difficult to find information about alcohol addiction.... usually, when curiosity hits me/i want to try to quit again, for the most part its just doctors, or webpages talking about a rehab facility.... but nothing about what you can do yourself. you know?
For the chronic alcoholic, it is a physical allergy which triggers a mental obsession. The only way to recover, is to "live differently". There are no magic pills, no magic words, and nobody gets sobriety handed to them. It requires effort. Think about all the effort mentally, physically, and monetarily that you put into drinking. Now put a fraction of that effort into sobriety, and see what happens. Best wishes.

1 day sober...and I feel so good ...swear..
Dope! I’m planing on starting this week!
@@thomasorcutt7342 How far?
This is very encouraging thank you so much. I’m tired of binging moments and my run encounters with the law. I love working out, I love discovering good nutritional meals. I want my Heavenly Father as well as my earthly family to be proud of me and trust me with spiritual blessings. I will continue to seek peace and healthier ways to live.
You got this babe. Hope you're doing well.
After 4 months I felt about 30x better than before
This was actually my next attempt. I will join 2 hour fitness keep praying and will see results this year. In the mighty name of Jesus I pray.

@@plusbonus1165 thank you so much for caring, I know God will bring me out of this and will continue to pray.
I had what you’d call an epiphany or life changing moment, whatever you want to call it
Where i quit drinking.
My name is Waldo from South Africa. You're my hero brother ❤️
You are very clear eyed and informative. You are blessed to have dealt with your drinking so young. Im pushing 60 and have spent at least half my life lamenting my habit. Alcohol is so ... stagnating. If i could turn back the clock...
As long as you are on the right side of the grass, Go For It!
I drank heavily on a weekend for 23 years but been stopped 14 months now.but the paws were quite rough.its so liberating to walk past the alcohol isle at the local store and not give it a second thought.good luck to everyone who is just starting their journey of not drinking.remember the recover is in cycles so expect that but in the end it is all worth it.
Thank you…🙏🏼
I just got out of hospital. You helped this Alcoholic 🙏🏼✌️❤️
Im 26 years 6 day sober
You are a very wise man. I am following these protocols and it is definitely working. It takes work, research, trial and error, etc. But so far so good. It's been a few months. The first month totally sucked, the WHOLE first month, then I turned a corner. A lot of what keeps me going is not wanting to go through all that again. It makes the choice real damn easy.
I think the key is to have things written down. My problem in trying to quit is making a ton of bad decisions. My brain is in a constant cloud. By having decisions written down ahead of time, this should help me alot. Thank you
i appreciate these videos. thank you🙏🏻 i’m only 22 and i’ve been abusing alcohol on and off for 2 years. i want to kick this horrible, embarrassed habit
Great informative video. Thanks as i'll be 60 years old two weeks tomorrow and been drinking heavy the past 4 decades and i'm on day 3 now sober and i already feel better.

I'm a 2 hour flight away from Bali so YES!!
On day 11. Thank you for the videos, they’ve been really helpful.
Alcohol ruined my career, money and adversely affected my family. Thanx for valuable tips. Will try to follow it.
Great. Just getting started. Great advice. ..two weeks. ...
Thanks a lot for sharing. Two months clean as of today

This is amazing. So relatable
