As a prior go-getting, highly ambitious woman, boss minded woman (Scorpio), I never want to manage, supervise, oversee anyone ever again!
My spirit is too soft and stress is too hormone imbalancing.
I’m currently an intermediate (right in the middle) data analyst for a NON TECH company (big key) making 88K a year (96 with bonus) with 2 work from home days, flexible hours for being a mom, and a kind MALE manager where I’m able to wear lovely dresses, nice nails and cute makeup.
    God has blessed me immensely.
I love the opportunity to turn my brain and laptop off and walk away. ❤

After being in the field for 7 years, I decided to leave because it was the epitome of stress, long hours, and very little pay. Especially as a senior designer. between working with contractors, clients, to the trade furniture stores and juggling timelime lines, youre always on call because every body has your number for a project. You may work 9-5 but most contractors are up at 5 and if they have questions they will call you. Its a fulfilling job but high stress. My entry salary was $19,600 and by 2014 I was making $42,000. I was so good at my job they rewarded me with salary increases every year and very generous bonuses. Because I didn’t have corporate responsibility and just simple administrative duties I was capable of really pouring into myself. By time I resigned I had multiple certificates in customer service and reception work as well as a Bachelor of Science in Human Resources with no student loan as I used a lot of my free time to apply for scholarships and do my course online. $50,000 is not high paying. Not trying to be negative. It’s just hard to live in a nice neighborhood on that salary. Saving for a home, paying back student loans, and paying rent will be challenging. Quiet luxury fashion is an “investment” aka not cheap. Just for a little background, I work in HR. IT IS STRESSFUL. But it definitely depends on the company and culture so don’t just take any position at any company. Really research the company culture. My ex coworker works at a new company in HR. She works from home and loves it.

@@nessparadis6948 It's possible in the south if you're willing to move here. I'm in Louisiana and I bought a house for $110,000 making $36,000/ yr. My mortgage and HOA payments are less than the cost of a 1 bedroom apartment in most cities. I also don't have any kids or anyone else to take care of, so after all of my expenses are paid, I still have money left over. I think the key, though, is that I don't have kids. If you do have kids, then $50,000 will probably not be enough.
In New Orleans, you can definitely find a lux apartment making $50,000/yr. That's like an upper middle class income here. There's also luxe condos in the $275k-$300k range.
It's definitely possible, but it depends on the cost of living, and that's what you have to take into consideration.

My mom is a prosecutor (Not in the US), she is about to retire and I would say she loved her job 50/50. On one hand you are an authority and people have to respect you, you get immunities, a high paying salary and your own “staff”. The downside is the stress, my mom is a criminal prosecutor and had to deal with the press and of course criminals. Plus every single detail of her investigation had to be perfect and trails can be VERY demanding. AND EVERYONE is looking for you to make a mistake so they can get rid of you and take your position. It’s a chess game.
I wouldn’t recommend being a prosecutor to ladies who don’t like the spotlight and being a leader. In my country most women are prosecutor which is interesting , and they are incredibly feminine and strong. But you need to decide for yourself.
I think when you are a judge or a prosecutor you love the respect you get and your unique access to the legal system, but aside from that, it can be very draining. So it depends on you

UX design can be stressful - just want to put that out there. You’re making a lot of decisions, presenting and advocating your work to stakeholders and trying to validate your work through user research that betters user experiences and business goals. It’s a tech job and tech can be demanding and it requires a lot of critical thinking, self initiative, and a growth mindset. People in this field are very serious about it. While at some companies sure it can be less stressful which could be great. It’s not a guarantee and given the unreliable job market these days you don’t know what you can get. It sometimes depends on your team too. Different teams in the same company can have different expectations. I would advocate for those interested to go to UX design conferences and ask questions if someone is really interested in this career vs the social media day in the life videos. You have to really love it if you want to grow and do this long term.

No one in the design community will ever say it is a "low-stress" job cos it does get extremely stressful. The deadlines are brutal and expect long working hours and work over weekends. The supply is exceeding the demand in the industry at the moment so there is too much saturation leading to competition and thanks to AI many companies are downsizing their design departments so that's not a good sign in terms of sustainability for this career path either. I see soo many people over romanticise design careers as "easy" but no one seem to realise the level of burnout we designers experience, daily.

I'm studying to become a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner. In some ways the path is a bit "rough" (bedside nursing, grad school, etc - yikes!) BUT I think in the long term, it's a career that offers A LOT of flexibility and financial ease (especially if you can get your employer or the US gov -- check our employee tuition programs, HRSA, etc.)
You could take years off of work (or go part time or per diem) to raise your kids as a SAHM without any fear of your skill set and experience becoming irrelevant. Just keep your credentials and go to a conference every once and a while! Likewise, pediatrics is one of the "warmer and fuzzy" specialities in health care and there are opportunities to pivot into other industries like tech, pharmaceuticals, etc. I WOULD LOVE to get advice from other NPs or RNs in the chat, and am happy to answer questions too :)

I'm an architect, but i know for sure ID is a stressful environment. Creative jobs in general have its own monster. And it depends on the workplace as well. Like if you're only doing smaller projects as oppose to larger scale, small clientele vs larger groups of people, etc. So just a heads up for anyone consider. But as mentioned, best way to know is through experience, lean more into working under them before schooling.

Librarian here and this information is inaccurate or, at the very least, incomplete. There are different avenues you can go to work in a library: public, private, collegiate, or corporate (including law or medical librarianship). You might be able to switch between some of these sectors but it can be tricky if you don't have the right experience. Starting off in the public library, at least in the state in lived in, the pay was only $40,000 to start and was very competitive. Pay is usually better in the public school system as a school librarian when starting out. The upper level of the pay bracket for librarian jobs in the public and academic sector is where the money is (i.e. director and mangerial positions) but these positions are rarely vacant and you are required to work your way up for years. If you do not mind working evenings and weekends (think of all the times the library was open to 10 or 11 PM during college!) for awhile, then you might get the chance to make it to the higher paying positions.

I work in a large public library and it is stressful and becoming a bit too political. As a librarian, I deal with people of all kinds of backgrounds, needs and issues. We are expected to be the therapists, social workers, babysitters and at times security. The pay is decent no doubt but it's not a cakewalk. Where I'm at, the market for librarians is a bit oversaturated with new library/information professionals with new MLIS degrees and if they're lucky- they would end up with 2 part time jobs in the field because the smaller libraries in the suburbs or out in the boonies don't have enough funding or losing funding. It took me years of working part time & working in not-so-perfect jobs to get to my current profession. This is not to deter anyone from pursuing librarianship, but I really wouldn't 'glamorize' the profession (library administration included).
