@@AnythingidontreallycareYou're implying that you are religious. How can you listen to him and not think, "that's right, I've been born into the right religion and people have told me so since I could talk" ?
I can tell you how I used to live with cognitive dissonance, I would say "that's very interesting, but I still believe there's a personal God. It's just that mistakes were made in writing down the holy books."
The problem with that, I eventually learned, is the holy books are whack. And they all say, "this is the unerring word of God, you must believe it - the creator of reality would've not allowed mistakes."
Ultimately everyone is inventing a god that is very much like the god described by the books. On zero evidence. Either the god exists and his word is inerrant, or he doesn't exist and humans have made it up. The middle ground is everyone invents their own god.

Yeah, but all these concepts are really ours, from our world and universe. So unless we share traits with the divine... Then we can't have answers on anything beyond. All religions might be full of lies, imaginary things, or maybe true stories lost in translation and time. Sure, our world is more about evolution and science and all, more about closer to us concepts, things we can understand, and that's reasonable. The thing is, one does not necessarily disprove the other, evolution and science does not disprove the divine, both can be true and in existence. We just try to hold onto whatever is closer to us, it's easier for us, and totally reasonable, if you start thinking about anything beyond you may eventually lose that familiar steady ground and that's not comfortable for people.

I think for a lot of people it's not that they believe in a God or afterlife, it's that accepting that may not be true will mean they won't see the loved ones they've lost ever again. Which is an utterly devastating thing to be faced with.
I don't come from a religious family, I went to a catholic school (I'm from Ireland, there's not a lot of options outside of that lol). Always thought I believed in God; it wasn't a big thing in my family to talk about it. As I got older and started to realise that I not only didn't believe in the Catholic religion, but I didn't believe in God at all, I felt a lot of dread. I'd lost my dad when I was 6, and the thought of never being able to see him again killed me. Because I'd missed so much of my relationship with him, the comfort of thinking I could see him again and we could continue our father/daughter relationship in "heaven" was too much to give up.
I've lost friends and other family members since, and it doesn't get easier. I know that I'm not going to see them again. In ways, I wish I had that comfort of truly believing I was going to see them again, but I just know that it most likely isn't true.
I think religion has done people a disservice in how they grieve the dead. As well as many other things obviously. But I truly believe that if people weren't fed this "I'll see them again" stuff, we would be kinder and more grateful while they were still alive.

Ricky is lying - there's TONS of evidence. The Shroud of Turin, the healings at Lourdes, the miracle of the sun at Fatima witnessed by 70,000 people, the apparitions of the Virgin Mary in Zeitoun, Egypt in the late 1960's which were seen by literally MILLIONS and filmed/photographed, various Eucharist miracles, saints whose bodies remained incorruptible long after death, various bleeding/crying statues that have been examined even with MRI machines and cannot be explained, I could go on and on. And that’s not even getting into the fine tuning of the universe!

I personally have the same opinion as Ricky, I was born and raised a Muslim. The idea of a religion being right and it being the word of God is just totally unbelievable to me, but religion as a way of teaching morality (mostly) and a way in life that gives someone peace should also be respected. And also, we have to accept Prophet Mohamed, Jesus and Abraham were all people that we can all agree existed in history and had such a powerful message in that era that it has stayed with us and always will for the course of human existence. And obviously in time, there are things that seem ridiculous now, but there is so much good and truth in the messages. I guess humans are animals and we do what we need to survive, but as humans that is more a social thing rather than fear of life or death, especially in the developed world. So these religious messages really helped us and brought peace and clarity at a time when it was needed. Globalisation has fucked this, just as much as disagreements on elements of a religion within its own followers. Religion or beliefs should be personal to the person, no-one knows the answers so respect and listen to others and have constructive and critical conversations about your beliefs and be prepared to have those beliefs challenged. If there is something judging you, surely open mindedness and discovery with respect for everyone is a sign of a good open minded and open hearted person

Me and my wife discussed this the other week.
In our school days, 70's to mid 80's, RE, religious education, is a forced to learn subject!
They tell us all about god and like ricky says, if we're good we go to heaven, if not we go to hell.
Imagine if there was a forced lesson about santa claus, or a lesson about fairies??
    Doesnt make sense does it?
But god, who is just as real as fairies and santa, is/was a forced to learn lesson for all of ur school life!
I hope its changed these days.
Kids these days should have forced to learn lessons.
But about finances, cooking, basic diy and vehicle mechanics.
    First aid.
Most of todays teens cant change a wheel, dont know how to rewire a plug, wouldnt know how to put someone in the recovery position!
Iam aware computers and tech rule the world.
But a computer wont work if the fuse in the plug goes, or a wire comes loose.
No point knowing how to reprogram a cars smart engine, if u cant change a tire, or change the oil or spark plugs.

A Polish archbishop was once asked: does God exist? He answered quite honestly: we believe that God exists. Can God exist without people? He cannot. All Gods disappear when their followers die. In other words, Gods do not exist, there is faith in Gods. Which God is the real one? You can choose. There have been or there are several million Gods. That means several million beliefs and not a single God.

How about we take the entire story and try and break it up into....natural events that occurred during ancient times. Heres the catch, they were written down because they represented many natural occurrences the ancients couldn't quite explain.
      So, let's see.
      Chrust and his followers.
The Sun and it's (12 solar zodiacs which it travels through. Last zodiac before the coming fish we see for the age we are IN NOW, was the bull or Taurus.
Wow!! What a coincidence? What golden animal statue was being worshipped when he returned from the mountaintop???
If we look at the solar movement during early spring?
The sun, looms for 3 days in the horizon, at its lowest point on our observable horizon.
Then, as if it were rissmg on the horizon, or, coming back to life, moving upwards one degree . Signaling the sign of coming warmth, time to plant spring crops and more daytime light.
Now this story would be much more difficult to understand if it was from one specific area of the planet. But....thats NOT the case.
This story permeates the entire planet in many different cultures and religions.
      Now, how can THAT be?
Maybe...just maybe, this narrative occurs every year? LIKE CLOCKWORK.

The first statement presented in the vid here was spot on. Or, put another well known way, "Science has questions that may never be answered but religion has answers that may never be questioned."
Most "proofs" for a god usually end with "What else could it be?" When the "what else" is presented with receipts, it is rejected out of hand.
