I think it helps to differentiate between mk and m1k. Because after mk1 it would get confusing like mk2 part2 or wtf. But differentation by saying m1k or m2k vs mk1 and mk2 actually makes a lot of sense.😊
I have theory that Liu Kang didn't kill Khan because he must have seem that, in order to create the future he wants for his new age, he needs figures like Shao Khan to be alive and play a role in it, similar to how he needed to let Shang Tsung win and kill his friends in order for him to fight his enemy and get Kronika's crown. As for Raiden still having his thunder powers, he probably went through a similar training as Liu Kang, only instead of gainning fire powers he got lightning powers.
I thought Liu Kang did try to depower Shao tho. If you read Shao's bio it says he was an incredibly weak and fragile child. His father, possibly Onaga, possibly did experiments (or something) and made him much stronger. Here's the bio: "Born into a proud military family, Shao was expected to become a soldier. But he was a sickly child who, though brilliant and eager, had an infirm body. Shao's disability infuriated his father. He dismissed his son's physicians and designed an extreme program to build his son's strength and endurance. Years of toil molded Shao into a physical colossus and forged within him an iron will. And as his father had promised, Shao became the perfect soldier. His brilliant tactics and relentless effort won Outworld many victories and him much fame." It seems Liu did try but he doesn't have control over everything. He even states in one of his intros with Li Mei that evil will always exists. I mean it makes sense, Kronika also didn't have the means to control the timeline perfectly (albeit she's still a terrible villain in MK 11)
I think one the rules that the hourglass has is for everything Liu erases good or evil something else will pop up every time he reset the timeline the evil was unpredictable. So that's why Shao Kahn is in this timeline same thing with Shang Tsung.
Agreed. In mk11 Liu Kang introduces himself as lightning and fire god liu kang. But In the trailers, he refers to himself as fire god liu kang. So I’m guessing he let raiden keep his lightning
One thing I don’t understand is the part when Kenshi, Johnny, and Lao comes and save Shang Tsung from Baraka. Baraka is like “why did you save him? I could’ve killed him.” And Kenshi is like “Liu Kang thinks he might be a threat to the realms we need him alive.” Then why tf are you trying to capture him? 😭 let him die. Then the plot eventually leads to Kenshi going blind again because they ended up going to his Laboratory to find him. Liu Kang referred to himself as God of Thunder and Fire at the end of MK11 when speaking to Great Kung Lao. He now only calls himself God of Fire. His move set shows *slight* bursts of electricity, it's like 98% just fire now. I don't know how, but we know Raiden as Earthrealm's champion is given his amulet that his MK9 counterpart wore. If I had to guess, Liu Kang somehow put Raiden's powers into that amulet which is why Raiden has them again. Though if this is the case, imagine if Johnny Cage became Earthrealm champion and just started throwing around lighting kicks instead of shadow kicks lmao.
SPOILERS... Well if you are hyped because General Shao looks badass and Reiko has been brought back to the series.... Stop... because you'll get the biggest disappointment ever. Literally they got turned into be biggest jobbers ever and you have no idea how many characters kick Shao's butt in their own chapters... Of course Shao and Reiko don't get their own chapters.
When Kronika had the hourglass, she mentions that she never foresaw Raiden fusing his body and power with Liu Kang and Revenant Liu Kang and upon that happening she then said that there is an actual chance they can fail now. I don't think the hourglass is all seeing but rather see's what the person controlling it is willing to see or accept. Liu not being able to see a major threat is due to him believing that this timeline is pure and safe having "neutralized" all threats that he was aware of. Canonically Liu never meet Onaga nor has he meet the One Being. The One Being is where I think will the the villain as it is mentioned as being the one who created the realms in the MK universe. Perhaps upset over not being able to craft reality, The One Being makes small alterations to Liu's timeline here and their. It could also be in intro dialogues, Liu mentions that he has restarted the timeline countless times, perhaps all that messing around is causing reality to collapse in on itself

Liu might be the one with the “vision” of peace but it’s Geras who does the work, like a concept artist drawing something from the art director’s instructions. Having Shao be removed entirely could result in something else becoming a mess. Look at Jax’s ending, he tries multiple times to undo the slave trade whilst minimising the negative consequences. And that’s 500-600 years of history as compared to the literal beginning of time. We have no idea how many timelines Liu has gone through but it’s been at least billions of years since Geras took over.
Liu Kang's bio really makes me believe that he won't be the villain, but he can be a sort of Dark Raiden type where he takes his role and Earthrealm's protector too seriously. I think it makes perfect sense of Liu Kang to favour Earthrealm. A theme that has been with MK for a very long time is showing that divine gods are still very human with their behaviour, especially one born and raised in Earthrealm. Obviously he's biased Even tho the "unexpected threat" is most likely Kronika, I still think Onaga lines up with that description because our Liu Kang has never met Onaga. He's met Shao Kahn, Shang Tsung, Quan-Chi and Shinnok, but not Onaga Also the dialogues and what we have seen both in this game and MK11 shows that the hourglass isn't perfect and that people still have free will. Shao will always have that internal drive to konquer and there isn't much Liu Kang can do about it
I'm this close to making a video about the Onaga theory. Maybe a short, actually. It CAN'T be him because Liu Kang rewrote the entire timeline, he would know about Onaga from that fact. And if Onaga DOES show up, it's a plothole.

But this is wrong because In MK11 when Liu comes to the future at that point he never meant Shinnok yet he knew he exists. In an intro dialogue Cetrion brings up onaga and Liu Kang knows who he is. 2. Liu Kang has Geras who has knowledge of all past timelines so Geras would know who onaga is. Why would he hide that from Liu Kang? 3. Why is onaga a threat to all of reality? He’s simply not big enough a threat to fit the description of Liu Kang and Shang Tsung’s bio Liu Kang likely neutralized the threat of the kamidogu’s too by hiding them or something. I love Onaga but it is pure cope to say everything points to him being the main antagonist.

In an intro between Liu Kang and Kung Lao, they bring up the fact that Liu Kang has hidden some of the Great Kung Lao's victories from the public. What they can do is say that the Great Kung Lao defeated Onaga but it was kept hidden. Then Onaga gets revived. Still unlikely because Kronika is in the picture though.

I'd argue that Liu Kang taking up the role of Earthrealm protector despite being the Keeper of Time is NRS's way of keeping Liu Kang in the story. As Keeper of Time who can see across all realms, he probably wouldn't show up much in stories mainly centered around Earthrealm.
1:50 Everyone knows by now Shang Tsung is meticulous. He'd prepare much more than Liu Kang ever could. And yea, Liu Kang foresaw that he was the only one who could properly use the crown, but it's rather obvious that that was a future specific scenerio he was looking for. So, not flawless future sight.
It's made obvious that the Keeper of Time doesn't have absolute control over the events that transpire. That was the whole basis of MK11's story. In his MK11 ending, even Shang didn't have full control. He even admitted he was vulnerable and had to use deception and manipulation. Kronika attempted to stop Raiden in multiple timelines having restarted it over and over again by having Raiden fight Liu Kang in an attempt to kill him. Raiden upset the balance of timelines and destined outcomes by trying to change them. When her plans were failing, she resorted to trying to restart the timeline again but this time erasing Raiden in the process. That alone required her incredible prep and time, and she was a Titan, something above even Elder Gods. Liu Kang said it in the very first MK1 trailer, he painted the worlds on a blank canvas with warmth and peace. But it is the choice of those within it to maintain the peace or resort to conflict. I think you've mistaken Liu's intentions with creating this new timeline. He didn't try to create the perfect timeline, he tried to give everyone a restart and left it up to them to determine the outcome after the events of MK11's story that was nothing but timeline deviations. However, external forces are trying to foil the timeline all together, so he steps in to stop it from happening. It's like one god creating a world and allowing those within it to do as they please, but another god attempts to tamper with that said world for their own personal reasons. Characters like Shao and Shang Tsung, I think he attempted to have them humbled by new upbringings, but Shang resorted to selling snake oils because he's a deceiver by nature and Shao isn't someone tyrannical by nature but his upbringing has made him someone who is an extremist who doesn't like Liu Kang interfering with Outworld business which showed this caused conflict with him and Sindel in the trailer. I speculate that will cause his rebellion against Sindel and her daughters for leadership.
Didn't Kronica erase dark Raiden in like the first chapter of MK11? And if Liu Kang doesn't want to do stuff like that in the new game to characters that where once villains because he wants every being of every realm to chose their own destiny then why does he interfere in the story?
Question. Are you against radical changes to this series? If so why? As someone who has been a fan of this series for years, Im tired of the status quo. Im tired of 30 years of the same repetitive story beats. Im sick of the past. I like that Shao is (so far) more than just a bad guy. I like that Liu is given such an important position and is probably going to actually be the main character for the foreseeable future. I like that Mileena and Kitana are normal siblings who dont hate each other due to awful lies. What Reptile and Barakas bios have shown off has done more to endear me to them, than the past 30 years of reptile being obsessed about his race. Or the other guy just being a generic monster who never adds anything of value. I took the time to learn almost all of the lore and I can safely say both timelines were extremely flawed at best and really not good at worst. So much so that I believe this reboot is necessary. I am tired of Kuai Liang and Hanzo fighting every timeline. Im sick of the amulet that only messes up the tension of the series. Im sick of Kitana and Mileena fighting out of spite. Im sick of Smoke being a guy with zero autonomy. Im tired of rain always whining and moaning about his daddy issues. Im sick of Kano being the worst nothing character in the series who does one thing right. Being a waste of time. Im sick of the special forces. Im just so tired of the status quo. For all of the NRS eras faults, at least it fixed some of my issues with the original timeline. The worst one is characters always returning from the grave like nothing happened. Midway was scared of letting characters stay gone and/or having major consequences from them losing their life. This was such a problem that it makes characters like Shao Kahn look bad. He didnt unalive a single good guy in the entire Midway era. He got one of his own minions, Sheeva and only Sheeva who came back with no explanation in MKA. When your poster boy for MK villains fails at making a single good guy stay buried let alone actually do that in the first place, something is very wrong. MK1 could screw EVERYTHING up. But Im happy with what we have so far. Change is imho a massive requirement going forward.

Opening your argument with “Only the most hardcore die hard fans will defend Kronika in MK 11, so it’s best not even to listen to them” is probably one of the weakest straw man arguments you can make. I thought X was garbage with how it made you choose between 3 different fighting styles. Where in the setting or lore does ever once say that as the Time Keeper, Liu Kang has to be impartial ? The ElderGods are supposed to be, but it never says that anyone who supersedes them must also be neutral and hold no affiliation or biases. Kronika when she held that mantle never once said she was, and in fact after Kang challenges her she mentions “I was going to keep your legacy intact, but now…” meaning she perceives and acts on things in according to her own beliefs giving herself a sense of agency. We could just be seeing the public take notice of Shao, given that Liu is a god and has to watch over all realms, it’s not impossible he thought sickening Shao as a youngin would be enough and he’s only now seeing Shao after being helped by Kronika all buffed up. We simply don’t have the game to be able to sus any of this out for sure, so a lot of your pointless gripes seem premature as we don’t even fully know the entire scoop yet. Also, comparing MK to Star Wars, I liked the original trilogy and the prequels, but all of the newer content is all garbage. I don’t consider myself a Star Wars fan. Likewise, if you straight up can’t appreciate the improvements the series has made and are only interested in niche neckbeard level critiques because you don’t like how certain characters are being handled, even when they’re written well, maybe you just don’t like Mortal Kombat anymore just like most of us have phased out of Star Wars.
Well, early review copies are out, the full story is on UA-cam, and the first few chapters hold things together okay, but everything beyond that is a complete and utter mess. Everything is either a stupid reference AKA "Member Berries", characters constantly addressing each other by their full names instead of casually addressing them like a NORMAL PERSON, and just devolves into Mortal Kombat fanfic about timelines and alternate universes. It's not Mortal Kombat. It's the stupid multiverse crap DC and Marvel are doing with Mortal Kombat's skin strung over it. It completely falls apart by the second half and pretty much turns into a cheap game of trying to get players to "ooh" and "aah" at IDEAS; what if Scorpion, Johnny Cage and Quan Chi were female, what if we tried to pay homage to Armageddon (without Blaze), what if MK11's two endings were both cannon. It's trying and failing to shock and surprise me but because this is based around multiverses and infinite possibilities, it makes the importance of each individual idea worthless. If anything is possible, nothing matters. This Mortal Kombat game does not matter. Nothing has stakes anymore and practically any outcome could have occurred and there would still be another Mortal Kombat after this trying to be a Hollywood movie yet again and changing up more things that didn't need to be changed. Make no mistake, this isn't a reboot, this is a hard continuation of MK11's god awful story.
I will be looking forward to that. As a lifelong, former fan who fell out of love with the IP after MK11, it's really frustrating hearing the same people who were going "You can't judge it, the game isn't out yet" immediately contradicting themselves by going "It's gonna be so good" when the last 4 Netherrealm stories have no been good, arguably even MK9's given it was the start of all of this timelines nonsense.

I kinda think it would've been interesting if this game was set far in the past with the great kung lao being a focus young raiden of course works too and we could see how shao kahn still rises to power and the first tournament still happens because it's just inevitable to happen the focus would be on a bunch of characters the live really long and of course some new ones but It would mean that we'd have to sacrifice characters that can only exist in present day for 1 game but i think that'd be fine
The only way I can see this ending good, is having Liu Kang destroy everything related to hourglasses and timelines and having only one definitive timeline in which everything is possible and inevitable. That way we'll have something like the og era and eventually after for example 6,7 more mk games, everything will lead to an ultimate Armageddon (Last Mortal Kombat).
According to the footage that was only shown to people who attended the event. Li mei couldn't believe General Shao would be against liu kang, she just couldn't believe. So basically he was considered trust worthy. So we see the Shao in the trailer after he has been insensitivised to go against liu kang.
It's gonna be laughable and a one and done if Kronika and Geras turn out to be the main villains. I thought it was a given Liu Kang would end up halfway or towards the end of the story revealing that there's a balance he must strike in letting the evil characters have equal opportunity and he already plays favourites with Geras stepping in to intervene once he goes to far.
If people are Confused about MK11's Ending: Fire and Thunder god, Liu Kang Approach to Kung Lao as his Champion in MK11 Ending and in MK1, now Fire god, Liu Kang Approach to Raiden as his Champion. It's still the same New Era he created, If you Pick Liu Kang and Your Opponent is Kung Lao, They have a Conversation addressing Kung Lao's Ancestor in Beta MK1. Kung Lao: "You Trained my Ancient Ancestor?" Liu Kang: "The Great Kung Lao was my Grandest Champion." Which Confirms that Liu Kang mistook His Old friend, Kung Lao, who both share the same name. Plus Ancient Kung Lao was more Humble than Current Kung Lao. And Also My Theory would be Liu Kang Gifting Raiden his Lightning Powers and Kung Lao with Wind? Since Both Kung Lao and Raiden are only Human and Also Surprised to see People with Powers in MK1's Story Mode Chapter 1 only.
Was the purpose of MK11's story not to have a reboot after the MKX mess? And then the MK11 DLC doubles down on the reboot. And then MK1 abandons it completely. The only meaningful part of the story involves the MK11 plot continuing. Also, the amount of dialog exposition is madening. Characters appear and literally explain their backgrounds and motives immediately as if a 10 years old wrote this.

For myself, I really didn't like MK 1's story...at all. I didn't care for the redesigns or for Kuai Liang being Scorpion somehow. But I'm one of the few that liked the very first timeline (From MK to MK Armageddon) the absolute best.
I literally just thought of this idea of how raiden got his lightning powers So at the end of mk11, raiden infused his powers into liu kang to save him and liu kang was able to use fire and lightning attacks in his fight against kronika. But in the trailers and gameplay in mk1, liu kang only has his fire powers in the game and raiden went from having no powers in the first chapter of the game from what we’ve seen to having lightning powers again. I think liu kang gave raiden his lightning powers back to make him earthrealms champion in the new timeline
I find it funny how liu kang changed character ages and even a few races like raiden being Asian and younger now and shao kahn being a weird horned creature and even shang being young in present without his magic instead of a super old man making himself young with magic and mileena somehow still existing Also shouldn't there be a young normal liu kang so fire god liu kang doesn't get erased by a a paradox
Both versions of liu kang were already combined when raiden bestowed him with godhood, my theory is liu being a higher tier deity than raiden will give him the ability to give create lesser God's like how the Titans created the elder gods then can absorb them like how kronika ate Cetrion if liu kang truly has her powers plus his own (which he should via aftermath) then he can potentially make others a God or titan like kitana,scorpion etc this mean we may eventually see other og mk characters rise up to godhood...interesting
I don't think Liu Kang gets affected by these time paradoxes, even though that wouldn't make sense considering Jacqui's tower ending. I say he doesn't get affected, because Liu kang in aftermath gets hurt, and so does his revenant, but when fire god liu Kang comes around... He's just fine. Also my memory is not clear, but there is no reason why Shao didn't kill normal Liu Kang then. Also as someone mentioned, Raiden gets affected differently by time, because of that the two liu kangs formed into one when he merged with Raiden.
[SPOILERS ALERT!!!] I warned ya, keep scrolling to avoid anything I love how everything this guy said is actually true in the actual Mortal 1 Kombat game, but somehow gets answered in their own way. 1. "Liu Kang would get mad from being keepers of time" -> True. So he gave up that power and become just a protector of Earthrealm instead (whether Liu Kang's decision is right or wrong is up to you, but somehow this guy got this point right) 2. "There are no threats in this current era that our current Liu Kang couldnt handle" -> also True. Thus, this time the actual threat doesnt come from our current timeline, but instead it is from another world to be exact another timeline in which Shang Tsung wins, both coexist as the result of MK11's final battle. This guy is right about Liu Kang's should atleast have created circumstances to prevent any evil from the previous timeline to ever emerging once more, but again an intervention from a foreign timeline has caused certain individuals to bend the arcs of their lives, making them the villains like they were once before. (Again, whether this makes sense or not is up to a debate, but atleast this guy is right again and Mortal 1 Kombat also answers this with unexpected solution) 3. About Raiden, at Raiden's ending, after meeting his godly counterpart he does question why he became a mortal in this new timeline, and somehow he also kinda wants to activate his dark side again
I’m wondering what happened from the timeline in Armageddon? They just switched to the past in the same timeline and then straight up switched gears, or past the timeline or something, I don’t get it anymore! At the time No One controlled the timeline right???
man i felt a huge let down when i saw kronika in the trailer, i can't believe it they bring her back the worst character/boss from all mk history. and yeah for now the from mk1 doesn't make sense for now. As 4thsnake says in his last podcast video, "it feels like this new era is not a new era its still NRS era continuing on, its not a fresh start, you need have seen mk11 to understand this"
The biggest threat are the titans they are above gods , shang tsung will be elevated to become a titan and i am sure more titans will appear to punish liu kang....in invasions mode you can see a green realm with dead giants in the background the same green space we saw in MK11 ending with shang tsung as giant titan on the throne...i am sure onaga will be teased at the end as the villain for the next MK game

Soft Reboots almost always fail. Netherrealm has no idea what to do with the now second timeline reboot? (Third if you count the MKvsDC Crossover). Art style downhill ever since MK11. Microtransactions dragging the game down. Destroying almost every character with bad writing and ruining villains like Shang Tsung, Shao Khan, and Kotal Khan all at the same time and leaving underrated ones like Reptile, Mileena, and Ermac to rot as corpses. And to round it out with time travel and multiversal plotlines undoing everything and taking away any stakes the story may introduce, I just don't see much reason to care about Mortal Kombat in this moment.
Honestly I see it as a spinoff or like its own separate story as the game really skips mk2 story and goes ahead with the invasion of earthrealm, many things didn't make sense but I guess midway never saw it as a canonical story

Liu Kang loses the lightning after he and Raiden separate Raiden did stick around as an advisor…. Until he died of old age due to the fact that he was mortal. Speaking of mortal Raiden did not give up his divinity in UMK3, he temporarily surrendered his immortality due to the fact that at the time of the game’s release it was that only thing stopping him or other Gods from joining. The hourglass CAN NOT see all things. This is proven when Kronika admits not knowing Raiden would fuse with revenant Liu Kang to save the younger Liu. What Liu Kang did in aftermath is different from the others you mentioned because they would of left the one they sacrificed or had wiped out dead and wouldn’t bother reincarnating them Also I’m pretty sure the right to absorb the losing realm has been removed from the tournament, basically reducing it just something that done to win bragging rights. Also King Jerrod created the tournament, not Liu. You’ve confused the time powers of this game series with what Dr. Strange did in Infinity War. He has the power to see into possible timelines while Liu/Kronika actually have to live through each timeline they have experienced

I don't think Raiden can be Liu Kang advisor since he has reincarnated as a mortal man. He probably doesn't even have any knowledge of the previous timeline. And about him having lightning powers, that might be due to the amulet he has with him. We'll have to wait for the story and see
If I recall, the powerless MK11 Raiden was still hanging around the void in time Liu Kang was at. He could have just reset the timeline and left Raiden unaffected.

Most of the points you have brought up here have already been explained in trailers and character bios. Take Shao for example. Liu Kang didn’t give him a demotion, he completely stripped him of power. Shao was born as a weak and frail boy. What Liu Kang couldn’t prevent was Shao’s father training him up to power. It was inevitable essentially, Liu Kang can’t control everything. Also, on the Onaga theory. This Liu Kang wouldn’t know of Onaga’s eventual plan to return because he comes from a timeline where Onaga never enacted his plan to return. This is obviously just speculation, but to act as if Liu Kang foreseeing Onaga with the hourglass would be weird because that’s just as much speculation as the other option.
I really don't like shao kahns less human designs. the orignal designs were special because even though he just looked human I could buy he's the absolute being of power and dominance from his own will and demeanour he didn't need to have all these beast like creatures it kinda makes him less of like an idea to me and more like just a guy ironically. idk ahsdiof

Honestly, they should have just made Erron's MK11 ending canon, and started more-or-less fresh. This thing seems like it wants to be a soft reboot, but it's already getting hung up by it's old strings.
What I can see is Liu Kang make most mk 11 characters ending as close as possible a reality in his new era. Sindel got to be a queen Milena got Kitana love. kuailiang got to be together with his brother. Geras freed from his responsibility. Shao Khan ending nerfed because it interfere with others ending. He still a conqueror can fight in mortal combat. but not that powerful to interferes with other characters ending Shang Tsung ending just impossible for Liu Kang.

I think that the final villain will be shang tsung from aftermath, two timelines happening at once and the story will get messy in the second half, I think finding out about kronika surviving and him killing her he finds out that shang also won while he won and boom titan shang tsung is the final villain

In intros and story mode Raiden didn't have power before. But in one intro kung lao says something along the line "I should have gottem the amulet instead ot raiden for that power", raiden has an amulet that gives him the lightning powers . I really don't like liu with lightning anyways so it's like eh . I don't mind this change . Again lightning is plasma fire is plasma anyways. Maybe by being a keeper of time he could just have any powers be want(lole summoning a black hole) so lightning powers doesn't seem like a necessity.

To be fair Liu Kang isn't directly the proctor of the hourglass he gave that job to Geras while he Proctects earth realm so its possible that Liu Kang gave Geras most of his time abilities.
Actually the tournament is the only part that makes sense. Depending on what the champion receives. Our own history shows such events can be used to garner good will. Unless you're going to claim we're much more rational then outworld . It also ensures Earth Relm can gather intelligence about Out World under the guise of the tournament. Since such a big undertaking will require ambassadors. Insurance those ambassadors are protected from powerful Outworlders from causing them any harm, as it will look bad for the leaders. Given several trips will be required a way to reach Outworld would have to exist. We can see this also in our own history. As events between countries were used by intelligence agencies. A LOT of the problem is NetherRealm's piss poor writing. They made the mistake of saying one thing and showing another, The story saying over and over the hourglass an object that' controls of time, but vaguely ,limited as Kronika attempted to stop Raiden in multiple times. Sure,, maybe she can't erase a God .Why didn't Kronika go back to erasing ALL of his allies? They just want an excuse to reset everything for every new game.
Its mentioned in 11 kronika didnt foresee FGLK. The hourglass probably doesnt show you everything. He also IS doing something about General Shao rising to power. He assists li meis constables and presumably fights against Shao forces.Also raiden isnt an advisor because its stated hed advise for as long as his mortality allowed. So he died and then presumably reincarnated. +intros reveal the lightning comes from the amulet.

Meaning she had not seen the outcome. And since this is a new timeline with 0 ties to what came before, Liu can't see anything coming here too. Because there's nothing to go off of ifykwim
The problem with this game, and the previous installment, is that it has no vision. They are all over the place just glueing ideas together instead of creating something solid and coherent. I love MK, played it first in 1995, so this is not an opinion about someone who hates the franchise, but from someone who really loved what they were doing with MK9 and X and suddenly got dissapointed from 11 onwards, specially in the story. I´m a lore guy, the story keeps me hooked and is one of the selling points for me, I can´t say for sure how many times I watched the story of MK9 and X, over and over, just loving the narrative and the voice acting. Something screwed up later by adding Ronda Rousey and Megan Fox. The story is just horrible, did the writers´ strike also affected the game? The dialogue is very predictable, very cheesy, some scenes that once impacted you like Sindel finishing the good guys in MK9 was cheeply "remade" again. There is no character development, so nothing memorable comes out of them. The origin was just taken out of somenone´s ass, somehow Shang Tsung survived and made another timeline... it would´ve been way more smarter for a dark Liu Kang to do it, since in 11 they fused; so the dark part of Liu Kang somehow managed to survive. If they wanted to restart the whole thing again, it would have been the perfect opportunity to give each character a proper development and slowly have each installment introduce characters from the 3D era. For example, MK X featured the Netherrealm story, a perfect opportunity to bring back Noob Saibot, and introduce Ashrah and Sareena alongside the revenants who were brought to undeath by Quan Chi. But no... they erased Smoke, erased Nightwolf after his huge sacrifice, and made Jade a variant of Kitana. They could´ve brought back Kai as a protege of Fujin as a backup plan and create a story of how Fujin did not trust Raiden completely and how he foresaw the turning of Raiden into dark. It would´ve been so nice to have a storyline down further of a civil war between factions of earthrealm, with Raiden as a boss. The aspect of timelines couldve been touched much later on, but I guess Injustice played with their heads for too long. Now in voice acting, can NRS STOP using "wannabe actors" for the voice acting? Voice actors are not easily replaceable, and a pretty girl like Megan, or a fighter like Ronda just can´t do what Kari Wahlgren does with Kitana and Mileena or what Jennifer Hale has done with Sonya, Tanya and Kronika. Stop disrespecting voice actors and give those roles to people who have prepared their voices and are talented at giving life to these characters. If Megan gives them blue balls, fine.... use her image but have somebody else voice the character. And I can go on, but I´m tired of typing. MK1 couldve been something very different and better, but it´s not. It´s just a game that relies a lot on visuals, just like World of Warcraft is doing now to appeal and survive for money.
and that makes MK1 much more anticipated then ever before ... countless possibilities ...countless variations ... lets just hope they will make it right ...and pls...wastly different ...but in less then 11 days we are gonna see it all ...which will be either really good or really bad ... but they did ok in previous games ... so we will see..

I have theory that Liu Kang didn't kill Khan because he must have seem that, in order to create the future he wants for his new age, he needs figures like Shao Khan to be alive and play a role in it, similar to how he needed to let Shang Tsung win and kill his friends in order for him to fight his enemy and get Kronika's crown.
As for Raiden still having his thunder powers, he probably went through a similar training as Liu Kang, only instead of gainning fire powers he got lightning powers.
I thought Liu Kang did try to depower Shao tho. If you read Shao's bio it says he was an incredibly weak and fragile child. His father, possibly Onaga, possibly did experiments (or something) and made him much stronger.

It seems Liu did try but he doesn't have control over everything. He even states in one of his intros with Li Mei that evil will always exists. I mean it makes sense, Kronika also didn't have the means to control the timeline perfectly (albeit she's still a terrible villain in MK 11)
I think one the rules that the hourglass has is for everything Liu erases good or evil something else will pop up every time he reset the timeline the evil was unpredictable. So that's why Shao Kahn is in this timeline same thing with Shang Tsung.

One thing I don’t understand is the part when Kenshi, Johnny, and Lao comes and save Shang Tsung from Baraka. Baraka is like “why did you save him? I could’ve killed him.” And Kenshi is like “Liu Kang thinks he might be a threat to the realms we need him alive.” Then why tf are you trying to capture him? 😭 let him die. I don't know how, but we know Raiden as Earthrealm's champion is given his amulet that his MK9 counterpart wore.
If I had to guess, Liu Kang somehow put Raiden's powers into that amulet which is why Raiden has them again.
Though if this is the case, imagine if Johnny Cage became Earthrealm champion and just started throwing around lighting kicks instead of shadow kicks lmao.

When Kronika had the hourglass, she mentions that she never foresaw Raiden fusing his body and power with Liu Kang and Revenant Liu Kang and upon that happening she then said that there is an actual chance they can fail now. I don't think the hourglass is all seeing but rather see's what the person controlling it is willing to see or accept. Liu not being able to see a major threat is due to him believing that this timeline is pure and safe having "neutralized" all threats that he was aware of.
Canonically Liu never meet Onaga nor has he meet the One Being. The One Being is where I think will the the villain as it is mentioned as being the one who created the realms in the MK universe. Perhaps upset over not being able to craft reality, The One Being makes small alterations to Liu's timeline here and their. It could also be in intro dialogues, Liu mentions that he has restarted the timeline countless times, perhaps all that messing around is causing reality to collapse in on itself

Liu might be the one with the “vision” of peace but it’s Geras who does the work, like a concept artist drawing something from the art director’s instructions. Having Shao be removed entirely could result in something else becoming a mess. Look at Jax’s ending, he tries multiple times to undo the slave trade whilst minimising the negative consequences. And that’s 500-600 years of history as compared to the literal beginning of time. We have no idea how many timelines Liu has gone through but it’s been at least billions of years since Geras took over.

Liu Kang's bio really makes me believe that he won't be the villain, but he can be a sort of Dark Raiden type where he takes his role and Earthrealm's protector too seriously.
I think it makes perfect sense of Liu Kang to favour Earthrealm. A theme that has been with MK for a very long time is showing that divine gods are still very human with their behaviour, especially one born and raised in Earthrealm. Obviously he's biased
Even tho the "unexpected threat" is most likely Kronika, I still think Onaga lines up with that description because our Liu Kang has never met Onaga. He's met Shao Kahn, Shang Tsung, Quan-Chi and Shinnok, but not Onaga
Also the dialogues and what we have seen both in this game and MK11 shows that the hourglass isn't perfect and that people still have free will. Shao will always have that internal drive to konquer and there isn't much Liu Kang can do about it

1. You assume just because Liu never meant Onaga means he doesn’t know he exists.
But this is wrong because In MK11 when Liu comes to the future at that point he never meant Shinnok yet he knew he exists.
In an intro dialogue Cetrion brings up onaga and Liu Kang knows who he is.
2. Liu Kang has Geras who has knowledge of all past timelines so Geras would know who onaga is. Why would he hide that from Liu Kang?
3. Why is onaga a threat to all of reality? He’s simply not big enough a threat to fit the description of Liu Kang and Shang Tsung’s bio
Liu Kang likely neutralized the threat of the kamidogu’s too by hiding them or something.
I love Onaga but it is pure cope to say everything points to him being the main antagonist.

In an intro between Liu Kang and Kung Lao, they bring up the fact that Liu Kang has hidden some of the Great Kung Lao's victories from the public. What they can do is say that the Great Kung Lao defeated Onaga but it was kept hidden. Then Onaga gets revived. Still unlikely because Kronika is in the picture though.

I'd argue that Liu Kang taking up the role of Earthrealm protector despite being the Keeper of Time is NRS's way of keeping Liu Kang in the story.
As Keeper of Time who can see across all realms, he probably wouldn't show up much in stories mainly centered around Earthrealm.

1:50 Everyone knows by now Shang Tsung is meticulous. He'd prepare much more than Liu Kang ever could. And yea, Liu Kang foresaw that he was the only one who could properly use the crown, but it's rather obvious that that was a future specific scenerio he was looking for. So, not flawless future sight.
It's made obvious that the Keeper of Time doesn't have absolute control over the events that transpire. That was the whole basis of MK11's story. In his MK11 ending, even Shang didn't have full control. He even admitted he was vulnerable and had to use deception and manipulation. Kronika attempted to stop Raiden in multiple timelines having restarted it over and over again by having Raiden fight Liu Kang in an attempt to kill him. Raiden upset the balance of timelines and destined outcomes by trying to change them. When her plans were failing, she resorted to trying to restart the timeline again but this time erasing Raiden in the process. That alone required her incredible prep and time, and she was a Titan, something above even Elder Gods. Liu Kang said it in the very first MK1 trailer, he painted the worlds on a blank canvas with warmth and peace. But it is the choice of those within it to maintain the peace or resort to conflict. I think you've mistaken Liu's intentions with creating this new timeline. He didn't try to create the perfect timeline, he tried to give everyone a restart and left it up to them to determine the outcome after the events of MK11's story that was nothing but timeline deviations. However, external forces are trying to foil the timeline all together, so he steps in to stop it from happening. It's like one god creating a world and allowing those within it to do as they please, but another god attempts to tamper with that said world for their own personal reasons. Characters like Shao and Shang Tsung, I think he attempted to have them humbled by new upbringings, but Shang resorted to selling snake oils because he's a deceiver by nature and Shao isn't someone tyrannical by nature but his upbringing has made him someone who is an extremist who doesn't like Liu Kang interfering with Outworld business which showed this caused conflict with him and Sindel in the trailer. I speculate that will cause his rebellion against Sindel and her daughters for leadership.

I like that Shao is (so far) more than just a bad guy. I like that Liu is given such an important position and is probably going to actually be the main character for the foreseeable future. I like that Mileena and Kitana are normal siblings who dont hate each other due to awful lies.
What Reptile and Barakas bios have shown off has done more to endear me to them, than the past 30 years of reptile being obsessed about his race. Or the other guy just being a generic monster who never adds anything of value.
I took the time to learn almost all of the lore and I can safely say both timelines were extremely flawed at best and really not good at worst. So much so that I believe this reboot is necessary.
I am tired of Kuai Liang and Hanzo fighting every timeline. Im sick of the amulet that only messes up the tension of the series. Im sick of Kitana and Mileena fighting out of spite. Im sick of Smoke being a guy with zero autonomy. Im tired of rain always whining and moaning about his daddy issues. Im sick of Kano being the worst nothing character in the series who does one thing right. Being a waste of time. Im sick of the special forces.
Im just so tired of the status quo. For all of the NRS eras faults, at least it fixed some of my issues with the original timeline. The worst one is characters always returning from the grave like nothing happened. Midway was scared of letting characters stay gone and/or having major consequences from them losing their life.
This was such a problem that it makes characters like Shao Kahn look bad. He didnt unalive a single good guy in the entire Midway era. He got one of his own minions, Sheeva and only Sheeva who came back with no explanation in MKA. When your poster boy for MK villains fails at making a single good guy stay buried let alone actually do that in the first place, something is very wrong.
MK1 could screw EVERYTHING up. But Im happy with what we have so far. Change is imho a massive requirement going forward.
Change is ok if it fits that doesn’t mean make bad changes that make something unrecognizable that’s the issue.

Opening your argument with “Only the most hardcore die hard fans will defend Kronika in MK 11, so it’s best not even to listen to them” is probably one of the weakest straw man arguments you can make. I thought X was garbage with how it made you choose between 3 different fighting styles.
Where in the setting or lore does ever once say that as the Time Keeper, Liu Kang has to be impartial ? The ElderGods are supposed to be, but it never says that anyone who supersedes them must also be neutral and hold no affiliation or biases. Kronika when she held that mantle never once said she was, and in fact after Kang challenges her she mentions “I was going to keep your legacy intact, but now…” meaning she perceives and acts on things in according to her own beliefs giving herself a sense of agency. We could just be seeing the public take notice of Shao, given that Liu is a god and has to watch over all realms, it’s not impossible he thought sickening Shao as a youngin would be enough and he’s only now seeing Shao after being helped by Kronika all buffed up. We simply don’t have the game to be able to sus any of this out for sure, so a lot of your pointless gripes seem premature as we don’t even fully know the entire scoop yet.
Also, comparing MK to Star Wars, I liked the original trilogy and the prequels, but all of the newer content is all garbage. I don’t consider myself a Star Wars fan. Likewise, if you straight up can’t appreciate the improvements the series has made and are only interested in niche neckbeard level critiques because you don’t like how certain characters are being handled, even when they’re written well, maybe you just don’t like Mortal Kombat anymore just like most of us have phased out of Star Wars.
Well, early review copies are out, the full story is on UA-cam, and the first few chapters hold things together okay, but everything beyond that is a complete and utter mess.
Everything is either a stupid reference AKA "Member Berries", characters constantly addressing each other by their full names instead of casually addressing them like a NORMAL PERSON, and just devolves into Mortal Kombat fanfic about timelines and alternate universes.
It's not Mortal Kombat. It's the stupid multiverse crap DC and Marvel are doing with Mortal Kombat's skin strung over it.
It completely falls apart by the second half and pretty much turns into a cheap game of trying to get players to "ooh" and "aah" at IDEAS; what if Scorpion, Johnny Cage and Quan Chi were female, what if we tried to pay homage to Armageddon (without Blaze), what if MK11's two endings were both cannon.
It's trying and failing to shock and surprise me but because this is based around multiverses and infinite possibilities, it makes the importance of each individual idea worthless. If anything is possible, nothing matters. This Mortal Kombat game does not matter. Nothing has stakes anymore and practically any outcome could have occurred and there would still be another Mortal Kombat after this trying to be a Hollywood movie yet again and changing up more things that didn't need to be changed.
Make no mistake, this isn't a reboot, this is a hard continuation of MK11's god awful story.
I'm planning a "first impressions" vid here soon as I've completed the story.
I will be looking forward to that.
As a lifelong, former fan who fell out of love with the IP after MK11, it's really frustrating hearing the same people who were going "You can't judge it, the game isn't out yet" immediately contradicting themselves by going "It's gonna be so good" when the last 4 Netherrealm stories have no been good, arguably even MK9's given it was the start of all of this timelines nonsense.

My brother in Liu Kang, MK has never had a sensible plot.
I kinda think it would've been interesting if this game was set far in the past with the great kung lao being a focus young raiden of course works too and we could see how shao kahn still rises to power and the first tournament still happens because it's just inevitable to happen the focus would be on a bunch of characters the live really long and of course some new ones but

The only way I can see this ending good, is having Liu Kang destroy everything related to hourglasses and timelines and having only one definitive timeline in which everything is possible and inevitable. That way we'll have something like the og era and eventually after for example 6,7 more mk games, everything will lead to an ultimate Armageddon (Last Mortal Kombat).

Li mei couldn't believe General Shao would be against liu kang, she just couldn't believe. So basically he was considered trust worthy. So we see the Shao in the trailer after he has been insensitivised to go against liu kang.
It's gonna be laughable and a one and done if Kronika and Geras turn out to be the main villains. I thought it was a given Liu Kang would end up halfway or towards the end of the story revealing that there's a balance he must strike in letting the evil characters have equal opportunity and he already plays favourites with Geras stepping in to intervene once he goes to far.

Fire and Thunder god, Liu Kang Approach to Kung Lao as his Champion in MK11 Ending and in MK1, now Fire god, Liu Kang Approach to Raiden as his Champion. It's still the same New Era he created, If you Pick Liu Kang and Your Opponent is Kung Lao, They have a Conversation addressing Kung Lao's Ancestor in Beta MK1.
Kung Lao: "You Trained my Ancient Ancestor?"
Liu Kang: "The Great Kung Lao was my Grandest Champion."
Which Confirms that Liu Kang mistook His Old friend, Kung Lao, who both share the same name. Plus Ancient Kung Lao was more Humble than Current Kung Lao.
And Also My Theory would be Liu Kang Gifting Raiden his Lightning Powers and Kung Lao with Wind? Since Both Kung Lao and Raiden are only Human and Also Surprised to see People with Powers in MK1's Story Mode Chapter 1 only.
Was the purpose of MK11's story not to have a reboot after the MKX mess? And then the MK11 DLC doubles down on the reboot. And then MK1 abandons it completely. The only meaningful part of the story involves the MK11 plot continuing. Also, the amount of dialog exposition is madening. Characters appear and literally explain their backgrounds and motives immediately as if a 10 years old wrote this.

For myself, I really didn't like MK 1's story...at all. I didn't care for the redesigns or for Kuai Liang being Scorpion somehow. But I'm one of the few that liked the very first timeline (From MK to MK Armageddon) the absolute best.

I literally just thought of this idea of how raiden got his lightning powers
So at the end of mk11, raiden infused his powers into liu kang to save him and liu kang was able to use fire and lightning attacks in his fight against kronika. But in the trailers and gameplay in mk1, liu kang only has his fire powers in the game and raiden went from having no powers in the first chapter of the game from what we’ve seen to having lightning powers again. I think liu kang gave raiden his lightning powers back to make him earthrealms champion in the new timeline
Also, Im Glad they brought back Characters from the older Mk's to this one... most who got screwed in there own original story..
I find it funny how liu kang changed character ages and even a few races like raiden being Asian and younger now and shao kahn being a weird horned creature and even shang being young in present without his magic instead of a super old man making himself young with magic and mileena somehow still existing

Both versions of liu kang were already combined when raiden bestowed him with godhood, my theory is liu being a higher tier deity than raiden will give him the ability to give create lesser God's like how the Titans created the elder gods then can absorb them like how kronika ate Cetrion if liu kang truly has her powers plus his own (which he should via aftermath) then he can potentially make others a God or titan like kitana,scorpion etc this mean we may eventually see other og mk characters rise up to godhood...interesting
I don't think Liu Kang gets affected by these time paradoxes, even though that wouldn't make sense considering Jacqui's tower ending.
I say he doesn't get affected, because Liu kang in aftermath gets hurt, and so does his revenant, but when fire god liu Kang comes around... He's just fine. Also my memory is not clear, but there is no reason why Shao didn't kill normal Liu Kang then.
Also as someone mentioned, Raiden gets affected differently by time, because of that the two liu kangs formed into one when he merged with Raiden.
Raiden as a god falls outside the normal rules of time. Presumably the same applies to Liu Kang.

I love how everything this guy said is actually true in the actual Mortal 1 Kombat game, but somehow gets answered in their own way.
1. "Liu Kang would get mad from being keepers of time" -> True. So he gave up that power and become just a protector of Earthrealm instead (whether Liu Kang's decision is right or wrong is up to you, but somehow this guy got this point right)
2. "There are no threats in this current era that our current Liu Kang couldnt handle" -> also True. Thus, this time the actual threat doesnt come from our current timeline, but instead it is from another world to be exact another timeline in which Shang Tsung wins, both coexist as the result of MK11's final battle. This guy is right about Liu Kang's should atleast have created circumstances to prevent any evil from the previous timeline to ever emerging once more, but again an intervention from a foreign timeline has caused certain individuals to bend the arcs of their lives, making them the villains like they were once before. (Again, whether this makes sense or not is up to a debate, but atleast this guy is right again and Mortal 1 Kombat also answers this with unexpected solution)
3. About Raiden, at Raiden's ending, after meeting his godly counterpart he does question why he became a mortal in this new timeline, and somehow he also kinda wants to activate his dark side again

Like Geras said, Liu Kang removed certain factors to stop them from becoming the way they were before. I don't think you're understanding something. His goal wasn't to make all his previous enemies weak and powerless. Again, he only removed certain factors, and added a couple bigger chanages, like Mileena being a twin sister instead of a clone

Soft Reboots almost always fail. Netherrealm has no idea what to do with the now second timeline reboot? (Third if you count the MKvsDC Crossover). Art style downhill ever since MK11. Microtransactions dragging the game down. Destroying almost every character with bad writing and ruining villains like Shang Tsung, Shao Khan, and Kotal Khan all at the same time and leaving underrated ones like Reptile, Mileena, and Ermac to rot as corpses. And to round it out with time travel and multiversal plotlines undoing everything and taking away any stakes the story may introduce, I just don't see much reason to care about Mortal Kombat in this moment.
MK VS DC was never a reboot series
Honestly I see it as a spinoff or like its own separate story as the game really skips mk2 story and goes ahead with the invasion of earthrealm, many things didn't make sense but I guess midway never saw it as a canonical story

Speaking of mortal Raiden did not give up his divinity in UMK3, he temporarily surrendered his immortality due to the fact that at the time of the game’s release it was that only thing stopping him or other Gods from joining.
The hourglass CAN NOT see all things. This is proven when Kronika admits not knowing Raiden would fuse with revenant Liu Kang to save the younger Liu.
What Liu Kang did in aftermath is different from the others you mentioned because they would of left the one they sacrificed or had wiped out dead and wouldn’t bother reincarnating them

I don't think Raiden can be Liu Kang advisor since he has reincarnated as a mortal man. He probably doesn't even have any knowledge of the previous timeline. And about him having lightning powers, that might be due to the amulet he has with him.

If I recall, the powerless MK11 Raiden was still hanging around the void in time Liu Kang was at. He could have just reset the timeline and left Raiden unaffected.

Most of the points you have brought up here have already been explained in trailers and character bios.
Take Shao for example. Liu Kang didn’t give him a demotion, he completely stripped him of power. Shao was born as a weak and frail boy. What Liu Kang couldn’t prevent was Shao’s father training him up to power. It was inevitable essentially, Liu Kang can’t control everything.
Also, on the Onaga theory. This Liu Kang wouldn’t know of Onaga’s eventual plan to return because he comes from a timeline where Onaga never enacted his plan to return. This is obviously just speculation, but to act as if Liu Kang foreseeing Onaga with the hourglass would be weird because that’s just as much speculation as the other option.
I really don't like shao kahns less human designs. the orignal designs were special because even though he just looked human I could buy he's the absolute being of power and dominance from his own will and demeanour he didn't need to have all these beast like creatures it kinda makes him less of like an idea to me and more like just a guy ironically. idk ahsdiof

Honestly, they should have just made Erron's MK11 ending canon, and started more-or-less fresh. This thing seems like it wants to be a soft reboot, but it's already getting hung up by it's old strings.
What I can see is Liu Kang make most mk 11 characters ending as close as possible a reality in his new era. Sindel got to be a queen Milena got Kitana love. kuailiang got to be together with his brother. Geras freed from his responsibility.
Shao Khan ending nerfed because it interfere with others ending. He still a conqueror can fight in mortal combat. but not that powerful to interferes with other characters ending Shang Tsung ending just impossible for Liu Kang.
I dont think its kronika thats either titan shang tsung or damashi but in a dialogue liu kang did mention he just set the big bang he let everything take its course

Raiden didn't have power before. But in one intro kung lao says something along the line "I should have gottem the amulet instead ot raiden for that power", raiden has an amulet that gives him the lightning powers .
I really don't like liu with lightning anyways so it's like eh . I don't mind this change . Again lightning is plasma fire is plasma anyways. Maybe by being a keeper of time he could just have any powers be want(lole summoning a black hole) so lightning powers doesn't seem like a necessity.
General Shao now has his red glow instead of green because he hasn't consumed all of those souls.

To be fair Liu Kang isn't directly the proctor of the hourglass he gave that job to Geras while he Proctects earth realm so its possible that Liu Kang gave Geras most of his time abilities.
Actually the tournament is the only part that makes sense. Depending on what the champion receives. Our own history shows such events can be used to garner good will. Unless you're going to claim we're much more rational then outworld . It also ensures Earth Relm can gather intelligence about Out World under the guise of the tournament. Since such a big undertaking will require ambassadors. Insurance those ambassadors are protected from powerful Outworlders from causing them any harm, as it will look bad for the leaders. Given several trips will be required a way to reach Outworld would have to exist. We can see this also in our own history. As events between countries were used by intelligence agencies.
A LOT of the problem is NetherRealm's piss poor writing. They made the mistake of saying one thing and showing another, The story saying over and over the hourglass an object that' controls of time, but vaguely ,limited as Kronika attempted to stop Raiden in multiple times. Sure,, maybe she can't erase a God .Why didn't Kronika go back to erasing ALL of his allies? They just want an excuse to reset everything for every new game.
Its mentioned in 11 kronika didnt foresee FGLK. The hourglass probably doesnt show you everything. He also IS doing something about General Shao rising to power. He assists li meis constables and presumably fights against Shao forces.Also raiden isnt an advisor because its stated hed advise for as long as his mortality allowed. So he died and then presumably reincarnated. +intros reveal the lightning comes from the amulet.

Meaning she had not seen the outcome. And since this is a new timeline with 0 ties to what came before, Liu can't see anything coming here too. Because there's nothing to go off of ifykwim
The problem with this game, and the previous installment, is that it has no vision. They are all over the place just glueing ideas together instead of creating something solid and coherent.
I love MK, played it first in 1995, so this is not an opinion about someone who hates the franchise, but from someone who really loved what they were doing with MK9 and X and suddenly got dissapointed from 11 onwards, specially in the story.
I´m a lore guy, the story keeps me hooked and is one of the selling points for me, I can´t say for sure how many times I watched the story of MK9 and X, over and over, just loving the narrative and the voice acting. Something screwed up later by adding Ronda Rousey and Megan Fox.
The story is just horrible, did the writers´ strike also affected the game? The dialogue is very predictable, very cheesy, some scenes that once impacted you like Sindel finishing the good guys in MK9 was cheeply "remade" again. There is no character development, so nothing memorable comes out of them.
The origin was just taken out of somenone´s ass, somehow Shang Tsung survived and made another timeline... it would´ve been way more smarter for a dark Liu Kang to do it, since in 11 they fused; so the dark part of Liu Kang somehow managed to survive.
If they wanted to restart the whole thing again, it would have been the perfect opportunity to give each character a proper development and slowly have each installment introduce characters from the 3D era.
For example, MK X featured the Netherrealm story, a perfect opportunity to bring back Noob Saibot, and introduce Ashrah and Sareena alongside the revenants who were brought to undeath by Quan Chi. But no... they erased Smoke, erased Nightwolf after his huge sacrifice, and made Jade a variant of Kitana. They could´ve brought back Kai as a protege of Fujin as a backup plan and create a story of how Fujin did not trust Raiden completely and how he foresaw the turning of Raiden into dark. It would´ve been so nice to have a storyline down further of a civil war between factions of earthrealm, with Raiden as a boss.
The aspect of timelines couldve been touched much later on, but I guess Injustice played with their heads for too long.
Now in voice acting, can NRS STOP using "wannabe actors" for the voice acting? Voice actors are not easily replaceable, and a pretty girl like Megan, or a fighter like Ronda just can´t do what Kari Wahlgren does with Kitana and Mileena or what Jennifer Hale has done with Sonya, Tanya and Kronika. Stop disrespecting voice actors and give those roles to people who have prepared their voices and are talented at giving life to these characters. If Megan gives them blue balls, fine.... use her image but have somebody else voice the character.
And I can go on, but I´m tired of typing. MK1 couldve been something very different and better, but it´s not. It´s just a game that relies a lot on visuals, just like World of Warcraft is doing now to appeal and survive for money.
Somehow Shang Tsung survived reminds me of another evil guy from another franchise lol, remember the last Skywalker 🤣

Why didn't liu kang do the dr Manhattan thing were if anybody that was an outsider out of time permanently destroy them, or just make shao Kahn into a earth reamer human. Not just neuter him and his. Powers and to make sure he cannot gain powers and dumb his I.Q down. Why would liu kang get rid of his second powers of lightning. He was basically a fire and thunderstorm god thor. I thought liu kang was a phobic since he didn't support kung jin. If he's a so call perfect being he couldn't even get rid of crime, poverty, bigotry etc.
All human combatants aquire powers for the tournament it's called arcana or something like that
Also liu kang don't know anything about onaga in midway time line nor netherrealm timeline because he died in both timelines
Don't sweat it. NRS story doesn't make sense. That Cianciolo guy who writes the story is horrible.
