This could be just selecting it from a tick box of different cultures like charr, asura or Norn themed or maybe it will only be linked in the future to different areas like a Canthan themed home in the Canthan homestead. *The abiltiy to construct actual buildings, with no improvisation but a collection of walls, roofs and floors which match and go together. *No limit on the amount we can place objects.
@@FornaxTheHerald I love building systems its one of my favorite things n games and this had me very excited and wanting to come back but i wanted to wait it out to see how monetized it was before hand
I've gone pretty hard into Homesteads and while it's a great start it does need to be built upon for it to become an evergreen mode for the game. First and foremost is upping the limits. The décor cap is far too low for the size of the area but also the décor per area limit of 200 is VERY restrictive. The latter is something we have confirmation they are not looking/unable to change which is disappointing as it limits detail within creations. Next we need far more basic building materials rather than items. By this I mean logs, flat flooring and walls, basic textured shapes rather than another themed living room set. The community creations have been amazingly creative so far but imagine being able to build something from scratch rather than repurposing 20 wardrobes? We need more ways to alter the land itself. Hills, rock faces, valleys, sitting and running water... at the moment it feels like we're just decorating a space given to us rather than actually making the space unique and our own. Closest we can get is planting 200 trees and making out we're in a forest. The item select function needs some work. Plenty of times I can see the reticule on the item I wish to move but it fails to select it so I have to go into X-Ray mode and delete to try again. The alts in the instance mean nothing to me at this point in time. They don't represent my characters because all you can do is scoop them up and tell them to stop somewhere. They're a piece of décor and to be frank I've removed them all because it's just weird running about and seeing them standing in their pre-positioned places. We need to be able to have them DO something, be it sit or talk or anything. Plenty of other little quibbles. While I'm having fun I'm feeling all of the above and give it a week or so I'd have hit cap and will have to stop engaging with it.
Just after reading this back I need to add- the mode is an amazing addition to the game and I don't mean to sound super negative about it. What is there is great but in order for it to have any legs in the YEARS ahead they need to do more than add the occasional gem store decor set. What is there currently isn't enough for me personally to engage with in the long term but in the short term I'm having a lot of fun.
100% agree on the cost of decorations being too high. I would have paid expansion price for homesteads even if there was literally 0 other content in Janthir Wilds, but I haven’t been able to do too much with the housing because of how much gold everything costs.
- In handiwork, decorations should be separated by categories (furniture, plants, festivals etc) ratter than masteries. It could help to navigate through all recipes. - Grass and the stone walls (circle around) decorations either map-integrated OR not counted in the decoration limit (nearly 1/4 th of it)...because people who want to build fun stuff have to sacrifice the basic environment features. - Themed house packs: (at least the main house) similar layout but different building skins... Asura, Sylvari, Charr (Norn = Kodan),... and Humans (Krytian + Canthan + Elonian). - To change the soil/ground color wouldn't be a bad thing too (an orange, green or white option). Like It could be amazing to get a Magumba like environment with an Asura cube house floating in the air... or to get a pagoda'like Canthan house... 😃
I really appreciate being able to shrink furniture down to a reasonable size so my Asura can get into a chair without looking like he needs a step-ladder and a safety harness. I am wondering if the next map will have some additional mastery skills for Homesteads. It seems to be the one track with not much on it and, I think, the highest skill set is Journeyman level. So they may add something for the next level to allow movement of fixed items like nodes. I'd also like to see the ability to change the weather. I really want to be able to do switch to things like storms. Of course, the other thing I want is a set of lab equipment with big switches, huge electrical sparkings things that go "Fizzt.. Fizzt.. Fizzt" and a large operating table that I can lift through the roof using a set of pulleys. Not for anything nefarious of course. It's not like I'm planning to transplant a simple brain into Brahm or anything.
oh, there you are again. I remember seeing a video or two when you started to take your time to explore each zone and give lore backgrounds and such. Apparently my subscription ... ran out? Either way, so nice to reconnect. On the video, I do feel the homestead is great fun for some (or most) but i feel it to be too expensive for some decorations. The system is nice and the buff for logging out in the home instance are great. Also maybe I am just a bit jealous about the amazing home steads I saw pictures of...
It is very cool to have my alt characters pop up in my homestead, but they feel dead, they just stand in random places unless you tell them to follow you. The older home instances feel much more alive because there are NPCs running around and doing things, even NPCs that populate it based on the choices you made in the base game. I would love to see the integration of some NPCs from the story, I would also love to have the ability to set my alts to wander around and move, right now my cats feel like they have more agency than my alts. It might even be nice to assign a path for the alts like you can for certain things in ESO's housing system. Also, we need building sets for walls, roofs, and floors. On top of that it would be nice to place resources in our home instance, like waypoints for far out locations or builds. If I make a floating island or tower, it would be nice to port to the top without having to do a JP every time. Also, also: a Black Lion Trading Company vendor in the homestead. It's nice that you can literally walk to a portal for the Wizard's Tower or Lion's Arch, but many people are using these as a personal hub zone, it would be nice to add resources like that to the actual location without having to go through a loading screen to access it.
I really appreciate how you think outside the box and I agree with all of it. One thing I would've appreciated in the homestead is if my Necromancers cooking station was always available there, for all my characters. Same goes for the home instance, ofc. As of now, it sort of feels like a one character achievement (because it is), and that is so out of character for GW2. Also, get that Kodan off of my raptor!
Homestead was not my selling point for the xpack, I wasted hours on homesteading years ago when it was added to Skyrim and that left a very bad after taste for me and it reminds me too much of it. I rarely visit it, I get materials while playing but I will not grind specifically for it, honestly I rather semi-afk in DR while enjoying musically talented players 😄 I do like the new maps and the Warclaw (that I did not yet have).
The biggest feature I want is a coordinate system for playing decorations. Trying to make small movements to get something to look just right isn't fun
It is so disappointing. It can only hold 5 players and a pain in the a## to always list it in the LFG to invite other strangers. Resources are also a pain in the a##. And also you cant view the decorations. You cant summon also the Homestead in VIP like Mistlock for example. No NPC to sell trash items. What a letdown again by Anet.
I really wanted to build a forest and wilderness. I was completely turned off when I found that all the cool trees required alpine or krytan lumber cores. I don't mind that they are really rare drops, but I hate the fact that cores are one of the few materials that do not store in your bank. I have found many of them over the years, and just donated them to my guilds. I even pitched them when my inventory was getting full. I understand why ANet requires chase materials, but it really bugs me that they chose materials that they could easily have added to mat storage, but never did.
Yes the amount of regent you need and the conversion cost had me stop and (still working on) upgrade all the costs before buying anything to become creative. Also Wish to have some homesteader merchants in every capital to sell there theme would have been nice, I want my Sylvari outpost sprier leaf building, something Crysralbloom looking, want to build my own small pale tree and more.
I love this video. Some things got me curious though. At 12:33 there is plant fertilizer and flowery bushes. How do you get those? And at 12:34 in the background are two tiny animals in the stables with green prompts over their heads. What's going on there?
The meditation packages was a disappointment. The two sand squares don't tile well. The scaling is too limited in the items in it also. Whne you remove the grass in the default homestead, you can still see it rendered in the distance. They could pull back some of the map limits to give more area. It'd been nice if they included a seaboard dock along with an airship dock. The commander needs an airship for their use.
Don't think I entirely agree with the point on 'make crafting decorations easier'. I feel Anet is already very generous with how much you can craft in one week. This helps engage people weekly. And also gives you a real progression sense in building up the pool of decorations you have crafted, going back to those Janthir maps for currency, so on. The only thing I personally found unreasonable is the rare mushrooms required for half of Maguuma plants, where one mushroom is a rare drop from Sawgill mushroom out in the world and cost 50g at one point. :D Those outliers if they could tweak those, imho the rest is great. TO be fair I play a lot, since launch, so I have resources stacked up. However I didn't feel like I'm spending any huge amount of them? So yes don't quite agree here.
i must say the crafting cost is already massively less then guild halls, i should know because before jantir me and 2 others were decorating a guild hall and lets just say the cost of that in insane. i must say the cost for homestead is honestly not even that bad tho and we dont have full mastery yet so i would assume it does get beter.
I personally dont find the crafting cost that expensive. Yes there are some outliers like mushrooms where they just need to increase that items drop rate. But overall everything will balance out over time. Rushing out to do the new shiny asap will always cause problems. Same with the lack of decorations, we know theyre gonna fill it out with all guild hall decorations over the course of this year we just need patience. However if after the year is done and we dont start getting more race theme decorations or seasonal themed ones then yes horrible system. But we'll just have to wait and see cuz atm weve only had 2 gemstore packs and i was surprised they didnt do one Halloween themed but instead did the zen bamboo one. Bùt at least the newest one has more stuff in it then the cute plush one. But i feel we'll get 2 gemstore ones per quarter, so hopefully those will have some of the themes ppl want. As for npc placing i get that. In eso you can make paths for ur pets so in my one home i have my dog running the perimeter of the house at various speeds and makes it more ĺively. So i hope at some point they can do that but will be hard since the game wàsnt built with this kind of stuff in mind so they have limited things they can do within their spaghetti code without screwing other stuff up. For the crafting station yeah it needs to be cleaned up more. Even the scribe one is a bit messy. I feel like for homestead as others have suggested doing it by category is better. Like trees, walls,, floors, beds etc.. as it is now they have like 4 recipes with the same name just slightly different requirements and im like ok which one is which. A preview would be very nice but i feel like anet relies on the community to do that and to fill out the wiki page. At best we might get one ffor gemstore items but they will probably just keep doing showcase vids for those.
The 2nd bug seems like a huge drawback. Personally I haven't touched the homestead since I got it because I'm waiting for them to release enough that I feel I can mine at least somewhat unique compared to others. When it comes to costs to build... it probably is too high but I'm pretty sure it's meant to be a gold/material sink like many others in the game. Hopefully they'll massage the numbers at some point so it's at least a little less of a burden. I feel like at some point one of the major features of an expansion will be major upgrades to home instance system, item limits, etc.
if anet released a basic homestead with basic tools, then they can over time build it up to what the players want instead of building it all at once and then having to remove and rebuild things. plus players cant accuse anet of "stealing" assets or copying other game homestead instances if it was the players asking for certain assets. that being said anet has never been good at balancing anything in this game from crafting and grinding to wvw and pvp skills, damage etc. i feel they dont even have anybody doing any balancing and just roll with whatever the devs brainstorm about and clean it up after.
I think the reason they made it so heavy on the crafting was because these new expansions have so little content. SoTo the grind was for legendary armor and runics. JW the grind is for the homestead. Its easier to do that than make actual content. I think people are going to be very disappointed with upcoming raid wing as well. Its so clear they are focused on other things at the moment. I only hope whatever they are working on besides GW2 is worth it because they are losing players over this kind of lackluster content. My VERY honest opinion about the state of GW2.
You know, whenever I hear your voice, I forget all my troubles 😊 and for some reason, it gave me the impression that you don't belong to this age either..
These expansions are just filler content that meet the baseline percentage to be legally sold as new content. Most likely the roadmap for Guild Wars is that they plan on doing this until sales drop to a certain point and then they will proceed with revealing GW3. After EOD and Soto it doesn't surprise me if this was the last one of these before they just skip to finally revealing what they have done for GW3 so far.
I want to visit all my characters without them needing to be in the homestead. Also i want to customize, how and where they are and let them do something like gardening or bartending themselves. This implementation is just disappointing.
The homestead system is really nothing new from the game, they took everything from gruild decorating and pushing it all into homesteads. It's basically a personal guild/home instance. And the dissapearing bug is also from guild halls. They ended up making a button to reset all decorations...which Im sure they will also bring that same feature over to homesteads...beacuase its far easier for the devs to copy pre existing content rather than actually improve the systems they already have in place. Congradulations.... everyone is now a guild hall decorator.
@@FornaxTheHerald I was actually suprised we got player housing at all with an antiquated decorating/craftiing system to be honest. but Im glad they made home instance collecting 100x faster so It was really needed.
*No limit on the amount we can place objects.
this is the first I have heard of player housing sense it launched witch says a lot considering how good it looks
Its rather honestly and could be brilliant.
I rarely visit it, I get materials while playing but I will not grind specifically for it, honestly I rather semi-afk in DR while enjoying musically talented players 😄
I do like the new maps and the Warclaw (that I did not yet have).
If Anet won't bother and add the music instruments and music accessories to the homestead - I won't bother to decorate my homestead too ;D
Could you let us know if things showed up again in your homestead's inventory? Thanks
@@Keinish79 sure, happy to.
i must say the crafting cost is already massively less then guild halls, i should know because before jantir me and 2 others were decorating a guild hall and lets just say the cost of that in insane.
i must say the cost for homestead is honestly not even that bad tho and we dont have full mastery yet so i would assume it does get beter.
Omg Fornax!! Where have you been girl
You know, whenever I hear your voice, I forget all my troubles 😊
and for some reason, it gave me the impression that you don't belong to this age either..
have you seen the game Tiny Glade
Do you really can place all your Alts in homestead?
To up 30.
I take it you've never played wildstar
The homestead system is really nothing new from the game, they took everything from gruild decorating and pushing it all into homesteads. It's basically a personal guild/home instance. And the dissapearing bug is also from guild halls. They ended up making a button to reset all decorations...which Im sure they will also bring that same feature over to homesteads...beacuase its far easier for the devs to copy pre existing content rather than actually improve the systems they already have in place. Congradulations.... everyone is now a guild hall decorator.
Thats one of main reasons I've was shocked its taken so long to get player housing tbh. I just hope they build out and keep improving it.
@@FornaxTheHerald I was actually suprised we got player housing at all with an antiquated decorating/craftiing system to be honest. but Im glad they made home instance collecting 100x faster so It was really needed. Can't tell you how many hours I've wasted of my life on home instance farming. And parking your alts is really trash because I use my alts to park at chests I collect evryerday. Wish there was aa way to control what your alts are doing in the homestead.
Buggy
I loved in every mmos i've played, aion, wildstar, rift [sort of], but what we got in gw2 is awful. Been there 3 times, and don't think ill go again.
Im going to be keeping an eye on this feature and Ill let you know if any changes happen which might peak your interest. o/
