I can't believe anyone would try camping in that kind of weather, thank God you had the propane heater and the tent. It' too bad that it's not insulated, it looks like a person could do something to seal it where it fits up around the trailer, maybe stuff rolled up or folded blankets between the camper and clam seal. . That's really cool, thanks Cosmo .

Hi LJ, Thanks for dropping in! Was a great trip. I appreciate life all the more after it. I have a back up system a VERY warm sleeping bag if it comes to a survival situation. I can hike out on my own and abandon the camp. I was snowed in for 5 days. It is free standing and does not attach. Tent is not insulated. I have lots of video about these shelters. They are not perfect but i prefer them, More on Clam shelters ua-cam.com/play/PLVxlmS-2xmBVcE0v7cYIMWrP1LuYDgTGZ.html Regards =Cosmo

Cosmo, an old pioneer trick to keep your water warm in cold weather is to put your water container in a poop bucket. Just poop in the bucket, add kitty litter occasionally to keep everything composting, and you are all set. The heat of the compost will keep your water above freezing. You may want to use a tube to draw the water out of the water container as needed though, as pulling the water container out itself could be problematic, lol.

Yipes. I hope it does not come to that. So far this is working from an "I can do it" but its not what I would call a great solution. Thanks for watching =Cosmo

watching your video i was reminded of my hunting camp experiences, multiple days and usually brutal cold here in Montana. You may find like i did that you have to have several "tricks" to keep water liquid if its sunny use your green house trick to get it warm during the day. I have a three gallon bucket that has been "Rigged with a 100w 12v heating element that i use with my Jackery 1000 to keep at least one bucket from freezing. What has never failed me is bringing an extra propane bottle, size depends on how long you are going to be out and how cold it will be. Just be flexible with your solutions and have a plan B and C and D.....you will need them.

We do a couple of other things - one is to keep water in large containers such as you had in the back of the VB. More mass means it will hold its heat longer and as you say you are getting some residual heat from the cabin helps. We also keep our next days water in the cabin with us (when winter tent camping in a sleeping bag) to keep it warm. These obviously all have limits - its been close to -40 here in Winnipeg for the last couple of weeks so no VB camping for us but if we were it would be absolutely necessary to camp somewhere with shore power to run a heater (or heaters) continuously. Winter camping is interesting for all the challenges it presents.

Thanks Paul! I did the usual tricks like fill breakfast pans with water in case it froze so I could just put it on a burner. Once the border is open I hope to camp in the cold temps! I guess if there isnt snow and not much frost in the ground you could dig a hole just large enough to fit the containers, thats if you are in one place camping for a few days, then that would be worth it the effort. You could cover the hole with old rags, use your imagination here.
