      Ryne - really appreciate your videos, insights and spreadsheets - thank you for all you do! Biggest dividend investing mistake? Investing too large of a percentage of my portfolio in one high dividend yielding stock with no real share price movement and missing out on diversifying those funds to other quality dividend stocks with very respectable share price appreciation. When it comes to both life and investing, TIME ALONE IS IRREPLACEABLE - DON'T WASTE IT!

      I owned AMD and NVDA in 2015 to 2018, but my mindset was that a company isn't safe if they don't pay a dividend. I made a few quick bucks and got out to put my money in stocks like AT&T and Verizon. That may have been alright if I were in my 60s and ready for retirement, but I was in my 20s and I lost out big time.

      @@rynewilliams being timid in deploying capital. I've been able to beat the market just barely over the last 1.5 years but could have really beat it if I had put more in Texas road house, and Microsoft. Was trying to spread some out to reits in my Roth that haven't hardly moved but do pay good dividends.

    One of the things I’ve learned is that when a company has a super High Yield and a terrible Payout Ratio (either Dividend/FCF or Dividend/EPS) that means it also has a terrible management team that can’t understand that their company should NOT pay any dividends if they can’t afford it. And that’s the worst problem any company can ever have

    I relate a lot to mistake #1. My worst buys to date where LEG and WBA. I've lost around 50% on both, even counting the dividends they paid me. The good thing is that they are a very small part of my portfolio, about 3% together. The other good thing is that I learnt a very valuable lesson without losing a big chunk of my portfolio.

    Great reminders for us all Ryne. Thank you for sharing. Of the 60 stocks my channel focuses on, only 10 are for current income seekers (high yield). Reason being is there simply aren't many stocks out there with dividend growth history, market capitalization and a current high yield. For every MAIN, O, MO or ARCC out there, there are about 50 yield traps.....looking at you Yield Max funds. Ha!
    My biggest mistake was thinking MMM wouldn't cut the dividend. Still don't think they needed to, but I held it forever and finally dumped it when I got the SOLV shares from the spinoff and moved all of the money elsewhere.

Just got out of ABR, yesterday morning, before the crash. Saved my gains, buy watching my positions. Remember, we all make bad investment choices at some point. My dividend investing is setup differently than my retirement accounts. It's all about income now and not for capital gains. Im into REITs and covered call ETFs. It's all about generating as much income as possible while not being a yield trap.

  • @pepinlebref7585
    @pepinlebref7585 17 днів тому +3

    I have just started a few months ago. Imagine that at Easter I didn't even know what an ETF was... The problem is that I am now obsessed with checking stocks and companies. I need to cool down as I don't have enough money to invest in everything and would surely make a lot of mistakes. I tried to stick to ETF only, but I find it too boring, although it would probably be much more efficient for a newbie like myself. I also now feel like I am from another planet when I am around normal people, but it is the same with some of my other hobbies and centers of interests, so nothing new here :)
    At the moment I don't have enough experience to understand when there is just a temporary dip and when it will fade harder and longer. For example I am watching AGCO and it is really getting beaten down. They are announcing a serious dip in revenue for the coming year though, but I have no idea about when the fall would stop while their past numbers really look impressive. Anyway, thanks for sharing.

    Excellent advice. I’ve made all the mistakes you mentioned. If you been investing as long as I have, 35+ years it’s bound to happen. As long as you made more than you lost then you’ll be fine. In regards to talking about finances to friends or family, I can only speak to 3 who are interested. The rest have no desire or interest yet they complain about being poor.

      My grandmother held Coca Cola forever, back when it still had coke in it. She bought it because it cured her 9 kid induced headaches and she decided it was going to be big. But over all in the past 3 months I've been skim researching the hell out of everything, there's a lot I wouldn't touch, including Intel. As for chasing high dividends, my plan is to raid and pillage as much as I can until I hit my goal (making up for that potential social security nightmare in 2032) and then slow down to a steady livable trickle. I'm one of the "should have started early" dummies. 😂 But when We tried to start, it was pay a brokerage a deposit or put a down on a house. Hubby keeps saying we would have lost everything anyway (hospital bills). So never to late, right. 🤷🏼‍♀️ Now one can start with zero, and it's game on. So I'm hanging on your every word. 😃

      Watch the tax vids, I think you'll find an answer there. I read that you can deduct a certain amount loosing stocks from your winners at tax time. So I plan to invest in a looser to counter balance my wins once I get it figured out. 😂
