Leon has had limited social interaction with regular people and Matilda is experiencing kindness for the first time. Their interactions are awkward and uncomfortable because they are sort of awkward and uncomfortable with each other. Matilda equates the positive feelings she has for Leon as sexual love because that is the only example she had at home. I think Leon is just kind of stunned by Matilda and doesn’t know how to react.
He grew up poor in rural italy. Probably left school at 11 or 12. Worked as a fieldhand after I believe? So no more education past that point. Doubt his parents were educated. Then he kills a guy when he's 18 and moved to the USA, where he lives alone for 20 years, the only person he knows being Tony. Leon effectively stopped progressing or growing at age 14. He's STILL 14, technically, on a social level. He's had no role models, no father figure, no school (until Matlida shows up). Matilda, being female, is the more intelligent one between the two of them, in some ways the more mature also! That's why it worked out how it did. Matilda mistook her feelings of belonging and love as something romantic, and Leon was experiencing compassion and companionship for the first time in forever.
@@TheVanillatech -- I think the truth is somewhat more complicated. There is definitely a strong father-daughter aspect to their relationship, but there is also a strong romantic aspect to it as real. And it is reciprocal. Don't get me wrong, the relationship is not, at any level, sexual. Neither one of them has that kind of longing. Her only knowledge is second-hand and he could best be described as asexual. But by the end of the picture, they are in love.

It's a great movie, the performance by Natalie Portman is absolutely brilliant, and Jean Reno and Gary Oldman are no slouches either. There is a cut version of the movie released for American audiences, because it was deemed that the full version would be too disturbing (as your reaction perfectly demonstrates). As to the relationship between Leon and Mathilda, there is nothing romantic or sexual in it. On Leon's side, he's extremely naive, doesn't really know what to do with Mathilda, and just cares for her. On Mathilda's side, you explained it yourself - she's in search of a father figure. Don't take me wrong, the movie is intended to make you somewhat uncomfortable, but your visible cringe at it is still surprising for me.
Personally I found the interaction between Matilda and Leon to be hilarious - she was crushing on him big time and he was totally flabbergasted by it. She kept upping the ante and getting them kicked out all the while he's doing his best to try to settle her down to normalcy. I was surprised that aspect of their relationship completely went over your head. Watch more foreign films, your brain will thank you.
This is movie is A-MA-ZING!!! Natalie Portman and Jean Reno were fantastic! Too bad your dirty mind ruined the whole reaction! Yes, she was 'in love' with Leon. As far as a 12 year old girl can be. And yes, she was pretty forward about it. But he wasn't 'in love' with her! He loved her though and was unsure what to do about all the different feelings. But NOTHING happened between them! Get your mind out of the gutter...
I literally said I liked the movie . I Hope you don't have children of your own if you don't see anything wrong with a 13 year old girl trying to seduce a grown man into kissing her and having sex with her Marjolein.
@@Teereacts11 Matilda was never loved, the only love she knew was her brother's. With no family and no father figures, traumatized and becoming adolescent (all these things are the causes of Matilda's attitude) The film is great because Leon never takes advantage of her. Leon loves her like a father/big brother. It's a very clever film, obviously without the current political correctness. its a great action movie and also a deep drama
@@Teereacts11 Even though she was rude in how she expressed it, she was correct in breaking down the dynamics of their relationship. The film is supposed to make you feel uncomfortable, so your reaction was perfectly normal.
- "The film is great because Leon never takes advantage of her." In Lolita, Dolores is taken advantage of by the main character, and it's still considered one of the greatest American novel of all time. Jodie Foster is taken advantage of in Taxi Driver; it's still considered one of the greatest American movie of all time. Art has no obligation to be ethical; I don't see anybody complaining about Leon being a hitman and teaching Mathilda how to be one. The time of the Hays Code is long gone.
The rules laid down by Leon, was the rules made by her parents, in the movie, Matilda had to stop smoking and cussing. Natalie had to go through extensive weapons training. When Matilda sang happy Birthday Mr president, she was impersonating marylin monroe, she was impersonating Mike myeres from waynes world. And if you pain attention, Leo. Was just as uncomfortable as you were. Leon doesn't have friends, or any connection to people, except his boss and Matilda was 12, she was never loved, or cared for and paid any attention to. They both did a great job!
I love your movie picks 🤌 11:34 he's the only male figure in her life that isn't threatening her or a perceived threat to her , that's why she's like this around hi even though he's just the neighbor . it's very sad :/ ps: Leon is a little...slow , not sure how to explain without being offensive or something, he's simple, he can't read ,write nor count, that guy who handles him kinda takes advantage of him a little bit (money wise) i always felt like . Mathilda thinks more like an adult than him when it comes to human relationships (she knows what she's doing is wrong , acting seductive and stuff at her age with an adult), all he knows how to do is to do hits, because that's all he was taught in life. She has a crush on Leon but nothing happened (physically) between them in the movie , I don't think he's even done anything at all with anyone in his life either . the story is one of a human relationship between the two I realize , despite all the weirdness .
The Movie is trying to make a point about how you shouldn't judge anyone at first glance. Guy in a fancy suit looking slick was evil, rugged guy was a hitman but an actual "good" dude, And young innocent kid went through a lot already, maturing her mentally. edit: It also shows "daddy issues" 😅
@@Teereacts11 No.They want the viewer to understand that she is young but mentally older, because of the abuse she got as a kid. Hence all the Daddy Issues in the Movie, it's obviously on purpose that the viewer feel uncomfortable. I loved that "I should have watched LotR" comment tho 😆
Isn't it funny that in the midst of all the murders, the slaughter of an entire family, including that of a 4-year-old child, and being made to sympathize with a killer who teach a little girl how to kill, it's the pseudo love story that bothers him ? Americans' moral compass...
@@dejavu4379 you’re talking about the 12 year old little girl trying to force a grown man to kiss her ? I’m starting to look at yall with the side eye now.
@@dejavu4379 there’s a reason the US didn’t release these scenes. Yall weird for thinking that just because shes mentally older in the movie it’s okay to watch her in skimpy outfits, acting like she’s seducing men, having grown men touch her, Having sexually charged conversations at 13 years old. Forget the movie. Natalie Portman was 13 years old.
Leon was never gonna be a dad. He was not in love with her he loved/cared for her. Young girls love people that show them unconditional love. It’s not about sexual stuff for him. Leon was a caring man. He was not some creepy dude. She came from an abusive family and never knew what caring people were like. Leon is the sh*t.
She thinks she's in love with him because she is remarkably emotional after her brother's death, but had zero emotional intelligence after being rasied the way she was. She misinterpreted her feelings for Leon because someone taking care of her had never really happened before. And he was also not the most aware and astute when regarding emotions and attachment-- he loved her in a fatherly way only, but he could not express that well. also... sympathy=sorry. empathy= 'I can relate to that and understand how you feel'
Many, many years ago, I had a 15 year old girl knock on my condo door in Winter wearing nothing but a robe. Not thinking, I invited her in because she was shivering. She proceeded to lose the robe telling me she wanted to know what it was liked to be (with) a man. It took me 30 minutes to talk her down and get her to leave. This movie reminds me of that experience.
Young kids like that were probably around just the most wrong people. I appreciated how Leon never entertained any sexual relationship with Mathilda, even jokingly.
Many years ago I was a stonemason. I was in the best shape of my life then. Looked good naked. I got a knock at the door and it was a young Eastern European girl, very attractive, probably around 17 or 18. She was working for a charity (animal charity - dogs if I remember correctly) and trying to sign people up for a monthly donantion. I answered the door half naked (it was hot that day) and she was looking me up and down instantly. I invited her inside to talk about the dog charity. One hour later .... And I signed up but, I only paid 2 months worth! As a token of my appreciation for her time! She called me a few times after that but whenever I answered she was drunk and I took that as a bad omen. So I stopped answering.
Natalie Portman won a Best Actress Oscar for Black Swan. (I wanted to say that to you during the video in response to something you said, but I don't remember what you said.) There are interviews on UA-cam of Natalie (as an adult) talking about making this movie. She considers it a good experience. Her parents did make them cut some objectionable scenes from the script.
Some of Natalie Portman's movies: Black Swan, Heat, Star Wars movies, Thor, and Jackie...for those are a few. Natalie has been nominated for 3 Oscars and won 1 for Academy Award.
Matilda starts confusing the love she's getting from Léon as something that equates to a sexual feeling because it's the only positive feelings she'sever had in her life. After Léon explains what happened to the girl he fell in love with when he was 19 she comes to realize his love for her isn't sexual in nature but more of a protective sort of love instead. Léon is a bit slow mentally so when he takes in Matilda he starts off as a "now I'm stuck with her" vibe & eventually grew to love & care for her like a daughter. When he tells her he loves her when he sends her down the chute he means it as a father not a lover & tries to explain to her how she's changed his way of thinking & that he's willing to stop moving around & settle down with her. Again, he means it as a father & daughter & she's coming to see it that way too. That's why she plants Léon's plant in the end because he said he would settle down with her. As for the shorter shorts & crop tops, those were normal for the '90s 👍🏾
That's so awesome you're worried about Natalie Portman as an actress. That is legit. But she does seem to have grown up ok and happy and successful. Also, Black Swan is another great Natalie Portman performance
Yes, its called the babymetal dress code. But the next five years. Babymetal will thirty years of age. And they still would be wearing this little girl outfits! They really need grew up an face the future in Japan! My great inspiring message is out again! Have a great fabulous wonderful day.😀
New to your channel. Great reaction. Saw this in the cinema on release. Film is a masterpiece. I get why modern reactors are weirded out by the Matilda/Leon relationship. Here's the thing - it's supposed to feel weird. So in that context, both Besson (as writer/director) and Portman (through her performance) achieved the EXACT reaction they were going for. Leon never reciprocates what she is expressing. Expressing as a 12 year old, messed up childhood girl probably would. I think part of it is also Besson being European and writing from that perspective. European films generally tend to deal with more mature themes then Hollywood. You are completely correct. If this was a straight-up Hollywood film, it would all be explosions. Still, loved your reaction and look forward to seeing more. Subbed! 🙂
Hi Trey - Just saw your reaction, and your comments to various others. Maybe I can hit it on the head, in a way that other people weren’t able to. You to one of the commenters: “You talking about having to watch a little 13 year old girl try to coerce a grown man into having sex with her you weirdo?” OK. Several things are going on: •••• 1) 12 or 13-year-old Mathilda does a number of ‘advances’ on Leon, including “how about a kiss?” (in the restaurant), and “A girl’s first time is very important…” Yes, Mathilda is trying to push things to where she and Leon will have sex. Is what we’re seeing, supposed to make Leon, and us watching the film, really uncomfortable? Yes. The movie doesn’t want anyone to be aroused or titillated by Mathilda. Do we agree, that the movie is SUPPOSED TO make everyone feel uncomfortable? As others have said, Mathilda is broken: a) on a scale of 1 to 10 of ‘hard life’ she’s at a ’10.’ b) She has ONLY EVER SEEN MEN ‘BE NICE TO WOMEN’ when sex is involved (the way her ‘mom’ interacted with her dad.) She has no guidance, no clue as to what a normal father/daughter relationship looks like, or is like. Her clues tell her, “men act nice to women because they want sex; women act sexy or give sex to men, maybe girls then like it. THERE IS NO OTHER WAY for girls to show appreciation or affection to men who are kind to them; this must be the way girls act in that situation.” When Mathilda tells the hotel guy behind the counter, “He’s not my father… he’s my lover.” - why does she do that? 1) She doesn’t understand how destructive her words are, and what her message will force that guy to do (Mathilda and Leon got off easy, by “merely” being kicked out of the hotel.) 2) She and Leon aren’t lovers (no sex has occurred, and Leon never encourages her and always shuts her down). She is verbalizing what she THINKS SHE WANTS the relationship to be. She also disavows a “father-daughter” relationship because in her mind, a father-daughter relationship is not wholesome or protective; it can only be repulsive and abusive, because that’s the father-daughter relationship that she knows. WE KNOW that if she and Leon were lovers, it would be icky and destructive; But in her mind, it would be “Me and Leon being kind and nice and good to each other, not abusive and not anything else.” HER mental picture, is not ours, and that's part of what makes the situation tragic. •••• 2) Leon and Mathilda are both ‘broken’ in ways that go beyond sexual. When she asks him, “Is life always this hard? or just when you’re a kid?” He answers, “Always like this.” So, they agree on something, but we, the viewers are supposed to see that what they agree on, is distorted and false. They’ve both had indescribably hard lives. But their lives to this point, are both wildly abnormal, relative to the experience of living life in general. Leon and Mathilda have no way of knowing that, but we viewers are supposed to. If life really were that hard for everyone else, humanity would have died out long ago, because no one would find it worth it to make friends, fall in love, have children, or form families. If we could answer Mathilda from “our side of the screen,” we might say: “You may not believe me, and maybe I’ll be unable to convince you… but life is not normally this hard, either for kids or adults. That constant knot of anxiety you feel in your stomach all the time, from your chronic state of terror and apprehension - that is not normal, and it is normal to expect that you should feel it rarely, not as a permanent way of life. Life has badly cheated you - and it's time to demand a recount.” •••• 3) You also express concern, not with Mathilda, but with 12-year-old Natalie Portman taking a role like this. Wouldn’t she find her soul corrupted, and her innocence lost? (“Skimpy outfits, having grown men touch her…”) This IS a valid concern. Here’s what we know: - young Natalie wanted this role very badly, and fought with her parents to get it. (That doesn't mean she was automatically right, or knew what was good for her.) - One of her parents were on the set at all times, carefully monitoring what went on. - When Gary Oldman touches Natalie Portman, we are grossed out because we know how evil his character is, and how close Mathilda is to getting killed. Gary Oldman touches her face and (very briefly) her lip with his finger, but not her breasts and not her crotch. I don’t think Natalie Portman had the experience of ‘being molested’ during this scene, and I don’t think her parents would have permitted such a thing. - The parents successfully pressured the writer/director to remove/change a number of scenes; less smoking, cursing than originally. The early version of the story, where Leon and Mathilda do have sex, was changed; in the story that the finished movie shows us (the ‘American’ cut AND the long cut), no sex happens or has the potential to happen. - Natalie has described disgusting experiences that happened after the film was released (fan letters describing r*pe fantasies to her, with her as the object) Repulsive. - Natalie, as an adult, has said she has a variety of feelings on making this film. What she hasn’t said, is that she regrets making the film, or playing the character, or working with the Director. She’s never said that she was mistreated during the making of the film. (Not only did the film come out 30 years ago, but some of that 30 years was during the height of the #MeToo movement. She could have said something at any point, if she thought there was something to say.) It’s easy for us to want to feel that we should have been the ‘protectors’ of young Natalie, to prevent her childhood from being damaged, due to this film. But, we’re outsiders. It’s presumptuous to think that we can guess what price 12-year-old Natalie Portman paid, or whether that price was “too high.” Can we allow her and her parents the benefit of bearing the consequences for their decisions? •THEY• had to pay whatever price there was, not us. :)
For 'sympathetic', think about sympathy - like when you see a dog lying in the street after being hit by a car - you feel somewhat 'sorry' for their condition, injuries, wound etc. As for empathy (empathetic), your feelings extend deeper into the situation, to the point where you might imagine yourself - as if feeling the pain & agony personally. The two terms are very close in meaning, but the difference is about one's degree/measurement of association/rapport with the wounded - whether actual physical injury, or more often in human terms; emotional distress.
I didn’t see the movie the way you saw it AT ALL. 😂. Leon NEVER crossed the line. To me this movie was about 2 very different people who have never felt love to any degree in their lives meeting each other thru crazy circumstances. 2 people with a very dark outlook on life finding each other and discovering a lust for life. Yes, she had Daddy issues but that was displaced love because of her family life. I think the movie triggers the personal perversion in some. But the rest of us see the movie in a deeper context. Btw, this was the International Version, not the version that got released in the U.S. The American version cut a lot of scenes for theatrical release.
If seeing a 13 year old try to seduce a GROWN man and ask him to have sex with her doesn't make you the slightest of uncomfortable, you got some personal perversion in you. Just saying
@@Teereacts11 13 year old girls have crushes on older men just like 13 year old boys have crushes on older women. And NO, neither makes me feel uncomfortable to see in a film. Would you have felt the same if it was a 13 year old boy who had a crush on a female adult Hitwoman? The only way I would feel uncomfortable would be if Leon was initiating a romantic relationship with her. But Leon looked at her as a FRIEND that he loved and cared about. That’s it. He wasn’t a predator. I would hate to see you react to “My Girl” w/ Maculey Culkin. In that movie a 10 year old girl falls in love and has a crush on a college English professor. Why? Because she doesn’t understand love and has Daddy issues. Just like this movie. And that didn’t make me feel uncomfortable either.
Luc Besson (the director) wrote the script whilke waiting to do The Fifth Element. Also, the prostitute at the start of the film, was his girlfriend in real life. He met her when she was a young teenager... ...he said the story was based on his relationship with his second wife, who was actress and director Maïwenn Le Besco, whom he started dating when he was 32 and she was 15. They married in late 1992 when Le Besco, 16, was pregnant with their daughter Shanna, who was born on 3 January 1993. Brilliant film, but Mathilda makes for some uncomfortable scenes. Brilliant acting by the young Natalie Portman.

New Subscriber. This was a great reaction and I look forward to the next. Also, I'm not sure if you plan on reacting to tv shows but if you consider it down the line, I think you'd enjoy reacting to Sons of Anarchy, Gangs of London, Top Boy and Euphoria. Each series is very well written and acted and as far as films go, I'd recommend "Judgement Night" w/Emilio Estevez and Cuba Gooding Jr., "Lawless" w/ Shia Labeouf and Tom Hardy, "The Town" w/ Ben Affleck, "The Gift" w/Cate Blanchett, and "The Butterfly Effect" w/Ashton Kutcher. Take Care ...
Had to quit watching because you just were missing the psychological meaning of her actions. It's not your fault though, people picked this for shock value and not artistic value. She never had anyone care, or parent her, so she was confused. Not like he acted on any of it. That movie doesn't need to be watched by young people today. It was a great film and is now being cheapened because of everyone judging it by its cover. Sad.
Sympathy- an affinity, association, or relationship between persons or things wherein whatever affects one similarly affects the other. Empathy- the action of understanding, being aware of, being sensitive to, and vicariously experiencing the feelings, thoughts, and experience of another. Sympathy is for feeling others feelings, and empathy is understanding how/what others think/feel.
i'm not sure if there was some form of typo but you got them swapped. Empathy is that guttural feeling of pain/happiness/whatever on behalf of someone else. for example, if we were best friends and i had lost my father to cancer 10 years ago, and then you suddenly lost yours also due to cancer.. i'd be feeling heavily empathic b/c i've been there. i can feel your pain. it doesn't always mean you have to go through the exact same thing, my example just makes the point more clear. Or for instance, let's say you've been wanting to have a child unsuccessfully for years with your partner.. just to finally having a miracle pregnancy.. in that situation someone could share your joy with empathy knowing how much pain you've suffered by their side to finally having your wish come true. As for Sympathy.. sympathy can be taught. Those are the fluffer small talks we all learn to do to be socially acceptable. so for example, same scenario as above, except were just casual friends, and i never lost my father. I'd be less empathetic b/c i'd have no clue how deep that pain could be, however, i understand the meaning. so someone sympathetic would say "i'm so sorry for your loss.. my thoughts are with you..".. kind words, but not really full of emotion. I have my masters in complex personality disorders and when i was getting my undergrad, the best line to memorize the difference is "Sympathy can be taught, Empathy cannot". To explain this, people who are diagnosed with Antisocial Personality Disorder (APD) , previously referred to as "sociopathic/psychopathic" despite those terms being now outdated for Antisocial Personality Disorder.. the main issue their mind has is their inability to be empathetic b/c there's a problem in their limbic cortex of the brain where as humans, it enables us to become self aware and empathetic to others emotions. However, depending on where on the spectrum someone with this disorder falls, there are everyday functioning people with it, who take a form of therapy style course on "recognising sympathy" and how to basically recognise others behaviour and learn to say the right words such as "I'm sorry for your loss".. they will never be able to learn how to be truly empathetic b/c that part of their brain is just broken, but they can still socially learn how to behave properly. I'm sorry if i'm repeating what you kinda said, but the big issue on sympathy is using the terms "feelings others feelings" b/c thats exactly what empathy is, as well as your definition of empathy. it's more like "sympathy is how we socially react to others going through something, where empathy is actually feeling those emotions and gutturally sharing the pain or happiness they're going through.💙
@@Teereacts11 yes but he is taking on the role of father in an extreme circumstance. A parent can instantly recognise that. You are not a father (I can tell) so your reaction to this movie is not that of a parent.

Sorry, this reaction isn't one, so if you don't understand a bit of psychology or don't want to see, don't react and carry on! It's mostly a 12-year-old girl who has lost everything and never had a paternal relationship, she has no idea of kindness and how to react. I can tell you this happened to me with a 12-year-old girl who tried to touch me, and of course I immediately STOPPED, I was 20, and of course I told her mom to be careful, because she was starting to feel unknown effects, and not all men are angels, far from it! Sorry, I appreciate the work in general, but a reaction without understanding is not enough!
Luc Besson(the Director) loosely based this, on his real life relationship with his second wife which is the first blonde girl that leaves the thug when Leon has the knife to his throat. The Director was 18 years older than the actress which was 18 at the time of the movie, but met her when she was 15 the Director had made the movie for his girlfriend to play the part of Matilda, but by the time he got the money to make the movie, his girlfriend was too old to play the part. So that kind of gives you an idea that yes you are in the right to think that this is weird to say the least. Another example is Céline Dion and her husband manager and the age difference there.
There is an American edit of the film that I personally like better. They make it more explicit that this little girl is just suffering from PTSD after her whole family was killed and this weird Hitman saved her. Because of who her mom was and how her dad acted she thinks the way she's behaving is how men want women to behave. In the American cut that all is more evident
Me hope you don't have children if , just to make some money, you'll let your 14 yr old daughter be in a movie where she is sexualized for the world to see.
you ont have kids, or atleast daughters. He is akward and was going to kill her the night she came. she has had negative relationship with pretty anymuch older then her, so not being smacked and screamed at all the time she has misunderstood a positive relationship as love love, because she doesnt feel rejected, and unwanted. Leon is a hitman with a code, and is taking resposibility for her, since he saved her life, and being a hitman doesnt call cops. SHE makes it weird, I have 3 daughters and 2 boys my oldest is 21 yooungest 13, the dress he got was very conservetive because he feels uncmfortable. but as a father I cant stand what my wife buys with them, but thats how they dress, wife said i cant stop them from wearing shorts and a shirt. shes right but i dont want tem to have thier fist kid at 15 like my wife and i had when i was 14 wife turned 16 month after oldest daughters birth.
She started asking him to literally have sex with her. How is that not romantic or sexual sir. What are you talking about.
@@Teereacts11 eh, kids are allowed to catch crushes. As long as the adult doesn't encourage or reciprocate it, it's uncomfortable but it's fine.
@@Teereacts11
Matilda was never loved, the only love she knew was her brother's.
With no family and no father figures, traumatized and becoming adolescent
(all these things are the causes of Matilda's attitude)
The film is great because Leon never takes advantage of her.
Leon loves her like a father/big brother.
It's a very clever film, obviously without the current political correctness.
its a great action movie and also a deep drama
@@Teereacts11
Even though she was rude in how she expressed it, she was correct in breaking down the dynamics of their relationship. The film is supposed to make you feel uncomfortable, so your reaction was perfectly normal.
- "The film is great because Leon never takes advantage of her."
In Lolita, Dolores is taken advantage of by the main character, and it's still considered one of the greatest American novel of all time.
Wow, someone else stuck riding the "amazing" train.
Hope u get a Thesaurus for Christmas.
Won't be long before America speaks Groot
The rules laid down by Leon, was the rules made by her parents, in the movie, Matilda had to stop smoking and cussing. Natalie had to go through extensive weapons training. When Matilda sang happy Birthday Mr president, she was impersonating marylin monroe, she was impersonating Mike myeres from waynes world. And if you pain attention, Leo. Was just as uncomfortable as you were. Leon doesn't have friends, or any connection to people, except his boss and Matilda was 12, she was never loved, or cared for and paid any attention to. They both did a great job!
That we're more comfortable with the violence than the (malfunctioning) emotions that two damaged people are trying to navigate
Its like father daughter. bro not sexual.
God Bless Your Daughter
I love your movie picks 🤌
11:34 he's the only male figure in her life that isn't threatening her or a perceived threat to her , that's why she's like this around hi even though he's just the neighbor . it's very sad :/
ps: Leon is a little...slow , not sure how to explain without being offensive or something, he's simple, he can't read ,write nor count, that guy who handles him kinda takes advantage of him a little bit (money wise) i always felt like .

My problem wasn’t the movie , it was a great movie. It was what had to take place for this movie to be created that bothers me.
My problem wasn't the movie. It was 14 yr old Natalie Portman being sexualized for the world to see.
That's so awesome you're worried about Natalie Portman as an actress. That is legit. But she does seem to have grown up ok and happy and successful.
Also, Black Swan is another great Natalie Portman performance

Subbed! 🙂
Anyone commenting not realizing that Leon is slow or mentally chalenged is a tool
The movie Colombiana (also written by Luc Besson) was based on the script for the Leon sequel, Mathilda (which was never made)

Hi Trey -
Just saw your reaction, and your comments to various others.
Maybe I can hit it on the head, in a way that other people weren’t able to.
You to one of the commenters:
“You talking about having to watch a little 13 year old girl try to coerce a grown man into having sex with her you weirdo?”
OK. Several things are going on:
••••
1) 12 or 13-year-old Mathilda does a number of ‘advances’ on Leon, including “how about a kiss?” (in the restaurant), and “A girl’s first time is very important…”
Yes, Mathilda is trying to push things to where she and Leon will have sex.
THERE IS NO OTHER WAY for girls to show appreciation or affection to men who are kind to them; this must be the way girls act in that situation.”
When Mathilda tells the hotel guy behind the counter, “He’s not my father… he’s my lover.” - why does she do that?
1) She doesn’t understand how destructive her words are, and what her message will force that guy to do (Mathilda and Leon got off easy, by “merely” being kicked out of the hotel.)
2) She and Leon aren’t lovers (no sex has occurred, and Leon never encourages her and always shuts her down).
••••
2) Leon and Mathilda are both ‘broken’ in ways that go beyond sexual. When she asks him, “Is life always this hard? or just when you’re a kid?” He answers, “Always like this.”
So, they agree on something, but we, the viewers are supposed to see that what they agree on, is distorted and false.
Life has badly cheated you - and it's time to demand a recount.”
••••
3) You also express concern, not with Mathilda, but with 12-year-old Natalie Portman taking a role like this. Wouldn’t she find her soul corrupted, and her innocence lost? (“Skimpy outfits, having grown men touch her…”)
This IS a valid concern. Here’s what we know:
- young Natalie wanted this role very badly, and fought with her parents to get it. (That doesn't mean she was automatically right, or knew what was good for her.)
- One of her parents were on the set at all times, carefully monitoring what went on.
She could have said something at any point, if she thought there was something to say.)
It’s easy for us to want to feel that we should have been the ‘protectors’ of young Natalie, to prevent her childhood from being damaged, due to this film.
WTF I read this whole thing and you didn't mention she was 13 years old one time.
Now imagine him watching Lolita or Taxi Driver.

Damn you actually helped me understand ! I appreciate you !
@@Teereacts11 You're welcome.
i'm not sure if there was some form of typo but you got them swapped.
I'm sorry if i'm repeating what you kinda said, but the big issue on sympathy is using the terms "feelings others feelings" b/c thats exactly what empathy is, as well as your definition of empathy. it's more like "sympathy is how we socially react to others going through something, where empathy is actually feeling those emotions and gutturally sharing the pain or happiness they're going through.💙
You're saying it wrong though.. "Mundane" kinda rhymes with Monday. In other words, you should say it like mondayN ;)

Hello i am French, see the movie Nikita a other movie of Luc Besson i know you like it !
Man... I literally had the same reactions as you through the movie, I just cringed way too much in all of their scenes together..

In the American cut that all is more evident

you ont have kids, or atleast daughters.
But you have some points, she doesnthave that positive protector so she can find someone her age to take that father protctor role.

JUST BECAUSE ITS NOT RIGHT, COMFORTABLE, UNDERSTANDABLE ALOT OF YOUNG GIRLS DATE 18+ TO FEEL LIKE AN ADULT OR LIKE MY WIFE TRICK YOU INTO KNOCKING HERE UP, TO GET OUT OF HER BAD FAMILY DYNAMIC, WHICH WASNT FULLY THOUGHT OUT, I TURNED 14 2 MONTHS BEFORE cHLOE WAS BORN I TOLD MY DAD I BOUGHT A BUS TICKET FROM ca TO fl HE COUL DRIVE ME OR I CAN WALK WITH MY BAGGAGE, AND HE DID DRIVE ME AND MY MOM DIDNT KNOW I WAS BACK IN STATE FOR ALMOST A YEAR.CHLOE WAS doing so well until Covid during her senior year lead to her getting depressed and bored and didnt listen to me saying you can be 5ooLBS and ugly AF aguy will F you as long as they feel no-one will ever know. thinking boys are just like her brothers, and not knowing the truth about how we are when we are young. having daughtrs feels like a curse only because you care and worry they may get hurt, or like my oldest did got knocked up, and either doesnt want to tell the guy and bet on friend she slept with in timeframe. and it eats me up in side, she wasnt perfect but in the way no one likes perfect, she had non consequencialflaws, but was motivated in her education, hasnt and doesnt have any intention of drinking or drugs, and {REDACTED} CHINA AND {REDACTED REDACTED} COVID DESTROYED HER PATH AND LASTED TOO LONG FOR HER TO START AGAIN. Also she loves her baby we all do wife and i altough now astranged had an abortion before and asked her to have the baby and decide if she wasnt up for it we would care for our grandchild and her too still. Its a terrible feeling when you know you could have had another child and chose to spit on the miricle of life some cant do. found out 7 years ago mom only had me after abortion doctor told her aborting me would leave her barron from having 3 or more abortions in short time can do, and sad thing im the only pregnacy she ever let my dad know of, and broke down crying when she told me shes always felt guilt over it, so i cant ever talk to her about feeling done with life since if she had 1 or more kids with my dad our lifes would be unrecognizable to today. life is uncomfortable accumulate or fake it.well all die one day.
